The King's Head in Dover

Great pub with excellent pubfood, very nice staff, great location and cosy interior. Every two or three years we visit Deal from the Netherlands for a long weekend with friends and the King's Head is always one of our favorite pubs to visit. Especially if you like to watch a game of football or rugby, combined with a nice pint and some excellent food on the table. The only thing we're hoping for during our next trip is a wider variety of cask ales. Been here quite a few times for a drink but not to eat and seen the wonderful food coming out - so we thought we would give it a try. We were not disappointed. It was busy with the Rugby on tv but the staff coped admirably (Ireland lost!) In fact the staff are ALWAYS friendly and helpful. So the food - we shared a humus with flat bread and buttered chicken - great portions and amazing taste (one of these starters would have been enough to share). For mains I had a incredibly tasty chilli con carne (probably the best I’ve ever had - and am getting old!) - my wife had fish pie - which she said was outstanding (loads of vegetables also). Bottle of Prosecco - all reasonably priced!

A lovely pub with a great atmosphere and the sausages and mash were the best ever. Room to stay over was clean and perfect. We cant wait to come again

Great place to pop in for dinner at the end of a busy day out. Food and drinks ordered at the bar. Service was quick, food was hot, great quality and delicious. Recommend the grilled chicken kebab. Portion size was perfect.

Cosy pub and staff accomodating. The meals were more than ample and served very promptly.......and served hot. We all had either cod or scampi and were more than satisfied with the portions - in fact a couple of us were unable to finish. Would highly recommend.

Very Average! Something has changed at this place? The burger I had didn’t taste homemade, it had brake bros written all over it, very tough to eat, it didn’t help that we were eating off cardboard plates with blunt cutlery, nothing like it was last year! Might be me but it was pretty average.

Fantastic services, 11 of us & a dog came here to celebrate 80th birthday. Excellent food all served up at the same time & hot! Made welcome by all staff. I would highly recommend The Kings Head

Lovely pub with pretty flowers outside. We hadn't booked on a Saturday night, but they told us we were welcome to sit outside and have our dinner there. Very friendly and welcoming staff. I had the pie - super tasty, and a generous portion! Would recommend.

The display of flowers outside is magnificent but unfortunately the inside did not measure up! The food was mediocre, it was edible but nothing special. While we were there another business owner approached the bar to ask if their water was back on yet? Apparently he was not going to open his own eating establishment as he had no water supply, it was not to be resumed for another hour or so. The toilets were backed up as they could not be flushed and I am not sure how the staff washed their hands whilst preparing the food or after themselves using the lavatories. Needless to say we did not finish our meals.

We visited for lunch and drinks had the scampi and chips and half pint glass of fish ...Prawns Crab and smoked salmon rose Marie sauce salad and French bread ... it was all delicious and great service would definitely recommend.

This very charming English pub is always our stopover when arriving from Germany. Shirley, Graham and James are great hosts and we really have a great time there. Not only is the drink very good and the food excellent, also the rooms are very tidy and the place boosts of lovely flowers. The staff is very helpful and caring. It was a incredible meal! The food was amazing and so was the drinks. They had lots of cricket signatures as well which was cool. It was an massive pub as well I really recommend it because not only does it have good food it is by the beach as well.

Not many places open to eat in Deal on Sunday Evening, so had a hunt around and found this pub on the Coast Rd with good reviews . Popped in late afternoon to book a table, and it was very busy with mainly men drinking lager and watching Brighton vs Man U, so it really is more of a pub with food rather than the other way around. Anyway when we arrived later, a table for two had been reserved, and there was a mix of people just drinking and some eating. Menu was quite varied and I had beef bourguignon, with mash and broccoli. It was not quite as flavoursome/red winey as a true French version, but was still very good with plenty of very tender beef. My companion had Fish Pie, and quite a substantial offering and also very tasty. Both dishes seemed to be home made, and not the usual reheated stuff brought in from a mass caterer ( portions much bigger for a start). Good pint of Masterbrew as well , what not to like ! Only one slightly annoying point was that although the match had finished, all three screens in a relatively small pub were left on with some obscure golf tournament. So I had to listen all the time to some American commentator from the TV just behind me. Looking around I could see that nobody at all in the pub was watching it, so would have been better to just switch it off.

Me and my husband come for dinner this evening and WOW what a place we had the most amazing haddock which is the best fish I’ve had in a very long time! 2 very kind men serving behind the bar and lovely young ladies serving the food all in all such a lovely evening will be returning in the future :)

Had our first indoor meal here since lockdown a couple of days ago. As always, a great experience. Came down to this gorgeous seaside pub with some friends for lunch in the week and all I can say is WOW, The staff were amazing and we got seated as soon as we turned up..The bruschetta that was on the special board was absolutely superb and I will definitely be visiting again!! Was very pleased to see that COVID rules were being followed and great to see the tables being cleaned after every customer . Thankyou very much kings head staff for a delightful lunch especially the lovely Gary that served us what a polite young man :)!

We booked a table at The Kings Head on recommendation from a friend who lives nearby. We were not disappointed. The menu was fab and the staff were accommodating to my family’s needs. We felt safe and secure with all the right measures in place post-lockdown. Highly recommend and we will be returning.

Had lunch this week, girlfriend looked forward to having calamari. Parked up got a table outside which was busy. NO calamari 'hasn't been delivered ' order breaded houlomi and buttermilk chicken strips to start. 2 Hamburgers and 1 Chicken burger main. Chicken stripes were plenty and tasted good, houlomi seemed over breaded and some didn't have much cheese. That's through over cooking when the cheese leaks out in the deep fryer (ive done it myself using brake bros). Chicken burger was good, my mother liked her burger but I didnt really. Its the way the burgers made. I thought it a bit expensive too, but.... its the first time out in months and the pubs have had it hard so im probably being picky. Think I was hoping for fresh or local catch.The service was great and fast.

Went for a pint and tea for my girlfriend after z walk. After waiting 15 minutes to be served was told they are too busy to make tea. Asked about the deserts on offer, response was go look inside at the board. No attempt to provide service so we got up and left.

Possibly the friendliest place I have ever stayed. Warm welcome from a friendly team headed up by the lovely Shirley and Graham. The kings head is right on the front at Deal and we had a sea view. Huge bed, stupendous shower. Perfect. We are here two nights and the good was excellent. Good selection of pub food - pork belly, pies, liver and bacon, salmon - all really delicious and well cooked. I would highly recommend the Kings Head and will be back.

Chicken kebab... You need to try it. Staff were so nice and helpful. We really enjoyed our lunch. I don't know why restaurants don't have photos today on their menus. Chicken kebab sounds so boring. It was absolutely stunning.

Spent a couple of hours sitting in the sun on the seafront last Sunday and enjoyed the fish and chips. Food was plentiful, well cooked and well priced. The drinks were cold and the sun was shining. Couldn't ask for more. It was very busy, but there is enough space to social distance outside.

We got to the KIngs Head & had to wait to be seated & used the hand sanitizer as we went in. The staff were very friendly & helpful & gave us a nice table. The food was good. good socially distancing again. It was too cold to sit out which was a shame

Had a reasonable meal here, service was friendly and efficient and our meals were okay. We sat outside as all the tables inside were reserved. The outside terrace is in a great position, on the seafront with lovely views and there were patio heaters which were welcome as the evening was a bit chilly. Menu was typical pub food, burgers, chilli, fish pie etc., none of them wowed us to be honest, although the starters, grilled halloumi, whitebait and squid were tasty, better than the mains really. More a place to go to enjoy the atmosphere and the views rather than the food itself.

We stopped off at the pub opposite called the port arms and ordered the food from the kings head, we ordered 2 starters 3 side and a burger, chips and onions rings and the food was well cooked hot and massive,it is well worth the money and the port arms is dog friendly so that's a bonus would highly recommend

Have stayed here previously. Love the location, spectacular sea views. Spacious, comfortable bedrooms. Always receive a warm welcome from Graham Stiles & his excellent team who are friendly, professional, helpful. Nothing is to much trouble. Good quality food & generous portions & a good choice of menu for breakfast lunch & dinner. The English breakfast was divine with local produce being served. The seating area outside is comfortable, pretty, overlooking the sea & very popular.Thank you Graham for your recommendations of where to visit & general local knowledge. We spent the weekend in Deal and visited the king's head twice. Both times the service by the young staff was exemplary. Friendly courteous and professional. A team to be proud of. Food was good too.

We booked here for bank holiday Monday after popping in for a drink earlier in the week. They have the social distancing sorted- efficient without affecting the ambiance. It seems to be more local than tourists but the staff made us feel very welcome. Food was great. Can fully recommend the gammon ham and steak and ale pie meals. Great stuff!

We visited on a Sunday morning to have breakfast. Sat outside for 10 minutes and nobody spoke to us despite serving a table next to us. Noticed a sign on the table that said order inside. When I went inside to ask for menu, it was as though I was the biggest inconvenience to them. No pleasantry. After my family had decided I went back into order at which point I had two members of staff stare at me like I was an alien. An elderly bloke who just stared! Then another Elderly female who asked if she could help..,, as I thought things may improve, she found out that I was sitting outside and just said as she turned her back to me, someone will be out. Just as I tried to explain the table says to order inside she’d walked away.... obviously far too busy! As I was waking out the third member of staff was huffing and puffing nearly walked into me and said in a rude attitude “can I help you”, I explained I would like to order and she unbelievably replied “well I’ll be out when I’ve got time”! Just to give perspective, there were two couples outside and one inside, so not what you would call busy. I was speechless.... I sat back down outside with my young daughters. I waited for 10 minutes at which point she came out and served the table next to us. The old bloke came out and started chatting with another table, and at no point did anyone take our order, welcome us. The rudest service ever. Maybe they are too old to be working in hospitality and don’t have the energy or the manners, maybe they don’t like outsiders or maybe they are just outright rude and bad mannered. I will never return as there are plenty of amazing places to eat in Deal where I can spend my hard earned money. I got up and left after wasting 30 mins of mine and my family morning in this rubbish and Outdated venue. Please avoid!

Wonderful place to sit outside and watch the world go by. The pub has wonderful flowers outside and looks so beautiful with bunting! The food was good. French fries were best I've had for a while!! The staff were very very helpful and polite! My daughter is fussy and they made her a meal she wanted. So kind.

The floral displays outside the pub and associated guest house are jaw dropping, covering this traditional pub/restaurant. The food (we had the special Greek kebabs) was first class, as was the service. There is excellent Shepherd Neame real ale as well.Fully recommended, but you will need to book for the evenings.

This pub us disgrace. No Covid protocols at all. The same pub. No social distancing . No Covid protocols at all. Where is the enforcement?????

We found that the food was of very average quality and certainly not worth the high prices charged. I was served a very small ploughmans and charged £10. I was charged nearly £30 for 2 beers and 2 meals and got quite a shock when presented with the bill. Pubs available in the area at much better value. This landlord certainly hasn't passed any of the 15% vat reduction

A lovely sunny day, fish and chips near the sea, lovely cheerful friendly staff. What could be better. Good prices, good service.

. Quick bite to eat for lunch, ordered two pints of larger, a lemonade, a sandwich (no salad with it just a sandwich) and a bowl of chips and a burger and chips, it cost £35. I know this is a lovely location but now i know why the fish and chip shop just up the road had such a long queue. I wish we had queued as by the time we had our chips the queue had gone.

Very pleased to see this venue open, of course we wasn’t allowed to drink inside, but we were able to order food. We decided on the burger and chips - £10.00 per person. The burgers were home made, nice proportion of meat and the chips were nice and crispy too.This was our first visit but we will certainly go back.

We stayed at The Kings Head for a week, so as to play the great golf courses along the windy coast. Shirley, Graham & their staff, we're just great right from the start, they we're most welcoming & accommodating, & made our stay very enjoyable. We had a family get together - 11 of us for Sunday lunch. The staff were very welcoming and efficient in order taking and serving the dishes. Unfortunately a lot of the food was less impressive. The pan fried squid appeared to have been pre-cooked and then cooked again as the colour of the pieces varied between light and very dark brown. The roast lamb was delicious but the roast been and cottage pie beef was very tough and chewy. A shame because there's a great atmosphere in the pub. Maybe there were just too many orders.

Had a great lunch with the wife, enjoying scampi fries and peas then ice cream from there 2 courses for £10 menu. A filling and tasty meal. Good selection menu as well as beers, ales, cider, bitters, wines and spirits along with soft drinks and hot drinks. Local beers available on tap. Nice comfy atmosphere with friendly staff. Also B&B available.

We got there on a Saturday, the place was packed (soccer on TV). We found a table, chatted away with two lovely locals, and drank two awesomely cold beers. We had fish pies for dinner, which were just incredible! The food is surely well done and what I believe was the owner is extremely attentive. Plus in this period, the pub is decorated for Christmas, it is superbe!

You have to order food and drink at the bar but at the end of the day it is a pub. If you want restaurant service head to a restaurant! I guarantee you though the food probably still won’t be as good as here! I had the calamari and fish and chips and it was delicious. My partner had a pie and chips and both meals were home made and fresh, you could tell especially with the calamari that it was fresh, proper calamari, not the frozen stuff you are usually served in pubs. We were very pleasantly surprised by the high quality food, I can’t recommend enough.

The restaurant isn't really in a separate room to the bar, which is fine but it's incredibly noisy and bustling on a Friday night. It was fine, menu ok - they'd run out of lots of options by our booking at 8pm, big portions, value for money but not amazing service. Hard to get attention of staff,n not super friendly, water isn't offered, they won't bring drinks to the table so you have to go and queue at the bar too, and not offered desserts or anything else. I go the feeling as it got later they just wanted to get you out of the bar in order to get the tables back for drinkers? I'm not sure. There are other incredible restaurants nearby I would recommend over here for a relaxing meal.

Booked 2 twin rooms on a Saturday night. We had rooms 9 (ground floor) and 12 ( first floor) which were in the adjoining Channel View guest house which is just along from the pub with its own front door and key They both overlooked the sea. The rooms were modern, well appointed, airy and spotlessly clean. The bathrooms were large with a step in shower which was modern and powerful. The breakfast on Sunday was from 7 to 9.30 I believe. We had the full English breakfast which was hot, plentiful and tasty. All staff we encountered in the pub were pleasant and helpful. The pub is vibrant and had live music on the Saturday night but we couldn't hear the noise from the pub from our rooms. There really is nothing to fault with this B and B and I highly recommend it. A couple of tips. We booked directly with the pub and got breakfast included for £95 a room whereas on booking .com breakfast was not included for that price. Parking can be tricky in this popular area on a weekend night. If you arrive early enough you may get a parking space in the front on front of the pub. There is parking in Middle street car park which is a few minutes walk away andwhich is free overnight from 5pm to 9am but make sure you pay the night before if you want to return after 9am. This car park is paying everyday including Sundays and the traffic wardens are about even on Sunday mornings!

If large meals are your thing, look no further. A delicious gluten free chilli and a massive steak dinner washed down with a couple of gins and beers. Good honest pub food executed well and served by pleasant staff. Place looks fab from the outside with the lovely hanging baskets.

Not the cheapest beer in Deal or the best service but if you have a spare hour or so for lunch this is well worth a visit. Food portions are too big for our taste but those who like a generous portion then this is the place. Good Sky TV if you want to keep up with the sport. Can be very busy at times so its not a quiet time out - but it is good value and food a decent standard.

popped in at 5.30 after the deal festival and although fully booked the pleasant staff said we could eat providing vacated by 7.30
