We went in and everyone stared at us like we didn’t belong there and it was less than a welcoming atmosphere.

We celebrated a family birthday as a surprise last night, for 26 people. It was done beautifully, the service was great with the surprise being maintained, food was gorgeous, and it was good value. I recommend!

15 of us ate in the restaurant for Boxing Day lunch and it was impeccable. When I called to book a few weeks before I asked if they’d be putting on a roast dinner (as many pubs go back to their usual weekday menu after Christmas) and was told they can do that if we wish, which was really good of them. Friendly helpful staff, beautifully decorated pub and the roast beef was amazing! Gravy so so tasty in particular. Thank you, we’ll be back very soon!

The only public house in Polebrook to my knowledge. A great run traditional English pub and restaurant with traditional dishes served.

Lovely village pub, nice atmosphere, great staff, lovely food. We visited early evening, the pub was busy, the restaurant was still fairly quiet. The restaurant has a lovely feel with a mix of stone walls and plaster and some nice lighting giving it a modern feel yet retaining the character and charm. The staff were friendly and welcoming and attentive. Food was very tasty, the menu gives enough choice for most people. Highly recommended a visit and certainly will return again in the near future.

We visited The King’s Arms for dinner. The pub was quite busy and had a lovely atmosphere. We were warmly welcomed when we arrived, served drinks at the bar and taken to our table. The restaurant was quiet with a calm atmosphere and beautifully decorated. The staff were all friendly and attentive, we had a little wait for our food, but not too long. It was well worth waiting for! Delicious, hot and freshly cooked with high quality ingredients. The portions were a good size, we even managed dessert too! The Kings Arms is well worth a visit, I would recommend booking a table so you are not disappointed. We will be returning again soon.

The Kings Arms is a very pleasant village public house, the food is amazing and well worth that little bit extra you pay. Will definitely visit there again. If you want to treat the wife it’s worth a visit

Great food and friendly service in a lovely pub

Good, busy, stylish pub selling quality beers ( eg Digfield Ales, Grantham Brewery ). Back garden and patio to relax in away from the food consuming clientele. Car park provided great entertainment watching a chap with a gorgeous silver grey Merc 230CE negotiate an 11 point turn to get out!! Justifiably popular, it deserves to be successful.....ps...more than acceptable gents too.

After a nice walk around Armiston, it was great to have a drink and lunch at the Kings Arms. They have an excellent menu and a good selection of beers and wine. Look forward to our next visit.

Nice enough pub with friendly bar staff. Prices are steep but it is a rural village so to be expected - about £12 for 2 pints and some crisps, for reference. We wanted food but kitchen was closed - will update when we know!

We went to the kings Arms in polebrook on a recommendation on a Thursday lunchtime. The staff were really welcoming and the food was lovely. We arrived as they were closing for food but the guys made room for us and made us feel really welcome. Would highly recommend. Lovely place.

Pretty awful meal last night. Two fat ridden, unedible steaks for £40. With a drinks a meal that came to £64. Comment from staff 'we'll let the butcher know' :(

This is a traditional pub in a beautiful village. We received a very warm welcome & the service was efficient with no wait to be served. Outside is a lovely pub garden & decent-sized car park. A pleasant place to have a drink. We didn't eat this time but in the past the food was exceptional. Recommended.

Excellent food, excellent venue and brilliant staff. Had a party at the Kings Arms for my birthday and wedding anniversary yesterday evening. We couldn't been treated any better and will definitely go back.

We just finished an excellent meal with drinks at lunchtime on a Saturday. We moved away eight years ago and haven’t been here since then, but we will make the effort to come back soon. Every aspect of the experience was excellent; the cask ale, wine and meals were top drawer. And it all came wrapped in a very pleasant atmosphere with extraordinary customer service. The staff were all very personable, polite and accommodating. Excellent village pub…Polebrook is lucky to have it. 👍🏼

Good selection of beers…Timothy Taylor’s Landlord and Fools Nook (local micro brewery) to mention a couple :-) What’s not to like. Well worth a visit.

We were staying close to the Kings Arms last weekend. We stopped for a drink on the Friday and had a roast dinner on Sunday. The staff and food were amazing. I couldn't recommend more...............well worth a visit.

We stumbled over this beautiful pub on Easter Monday drive, & I’m very pleased to say we all had a lovely meal. On our order it was Fish & chips & 2 homemade burgers & chips. The homemade burgers were so juicy & tasted homemade. The staff, so kind & welcoming. I hope to store this place for a future visit. Thank you.

The beer was good. However, I've had lunch and dinner on a couple of occasions and the food choice and standard is decidedly average. The main dining room is totally devoid of atmosphere or comfort which is some accomplishment in what should be a great country pub.

Fantastic vegan meal at The Kings Arms last night, Aubergine Schnitzel and vegan chocolate mousse- lovely! And the service was impeccable.

Such a warm, welcoming feel when you come here.Me and my partner had scallops, black pudding for starters to share, best we have ever tasted great combination of flavours, followed by venison and homemade burger for mains, both tasted amazing and looked beautiful on the plate.Bailey's cheesecake to end was delicious, fantastic service. will be back.

I found this place whilst wandering the countryside on my motorcycle and I have been hooked ever since. The food is top quality. Even the sandwiches available when the kitchen is closed are fantastic. Staff have been nothing but welcoming and the atmosphere is such that I'm considering moving to the village. I'm not to book, but if you can hold out till Sunday the roast is worth it!

What a perfect lunch. Local produce, just the right amount of choice, lovely setting and excellent presentation. I am not an easy person to please, but everything was just spot on and so very delicious. I definitely want to try the Sunday lunch menu next!

4 of us went out for our first post lockdown meal and really enjoyed ourselves. We had a couple of minor hiccups on our order but the way these were dealt with was outstanding. We will be back soon as the food and ambiance were great and the way we were looked after was fabulous.

My husband and I came here last weekend, wanting just a snack and not having booked. We got a table in the garden and were given menus plus the blackboard of small bites. We had 3 bites for £10: battered king prawns, calamari and fries plus an order of whitebait for £6. All served with two generous portions of garlic mayonnaise. It was the hottest freshest fried food I have ever had - and we've eaten at a lot of places both here and abroad.Service was friendly, polite and efficient. The chef even brought out our food - one way to ensure it's served at the temperature it should be served at! My sauvignon was superb.We only stopped there on the off chance of getting a snack, but would highly recommend it.

The food was delicious and the welcome was warm and friendly. They had obviously taken great care over the coronavirus implications of eating out, but not 'over the top' so as to spoil the experience. Well done to all the staff involved.

Lovely pub with gorgeous decor, and pretty garden too. We arrived on the off chance for lunch and were warmly looked after by the manager and the team. The food was so delicious and beautifully presented complimented by quality wine and beer. The village is super pretty too. Would love to come back again.

My wife and I my wife found The Kings Arms on Tripadvisor and telephoned first to find if dogs were allowed to which they do so we booked a table for one o'clock in the bar section as were approx 30 mins away. From arrival to leaving we found the service attentive and pleasant (I think Rosie) and the bar section within the restaurant was enjoyable (clean,tidy and a good decor). My wife and I shared the 3 for £15.00 starter nibbles (we choose Homemade Corned Beef Hash with Fried Egg, Stilton Cheese Arancini Balls and the Toasted Flatbread Trio of Dips...Pea and Wild Garlic-Pesto-Houmous and Tzatziki) plus the special nibble of the day Chilli Bowl with Nachos and Cheese £5.50...all were excellent ,tasty very fresh. To accompany our meal half pint of Estrella £2.30. If we happen to be in the area in the future we will certainly visit The Kings Arms again

I was at a loss when the Chequered Skipper in nearby Ashton had changed hands - it had been such a friendly place to have a pint and share good food. Delighted to find they had migrated to Polebrook.A warm greeting marked my arrival and the service was cheerful and efficient. A good range of beer, wines and soft drinks. On a Friday or Saturday night it is wise to book. The dinning area is well set out and not crowded, with rather fine stings of lights. All good well presented and both the traditional cod and the butterfly chicken dishes were delicious. The desserts were also good and not too fattening! Portions were well judged, I could enjoy the food without feeling guilty that i had taken in too many calories! If you wanted to eat more, you could have added a starter.It is my go to place for a meal out alone or with friends in the area around Oundle. The cheerful staff were well trained and made this another reason for going.

Once again Ian and his team make our Christmas Day lunch welcoming, enjoyable and satisfying.We received a warm welcome and were shown to our table where we were served with drinks and canapés. The lunch was very good quality with tasty ingredients cooked superbly.We were not rushed and enjoyed a leisurely paced meal.Thank you all for a great Christmas celebration

Excellent service and tasty food

This was a total pleasure. We hadn’t been here for a while and it has now been completely refitted. The pub is very airy and makes you feel at home. The food was by far the best we had eaten in a pub for as long as I can remember. We ordered the pork belly which was on the Xmas menu and despite the fact it was a preorder only they still accommodated us. It was devine. All round great experience will definitely be back.

Friendly staff and very good food

We visited the King’s Head for Sunday lunch. We had the Roast Pork which was very good and the Steak and Ale pie which was ok. The best thing about the pie was the gravy which was excellent. The pie itself was good but not the most generous filling.The service was excellent and the new decor very tasteful.We would certainly go back.

Ian and his team never disappoints, a great Sunday lunch, roast beef done perfectly with all the trimmings in great surroundings, friendly staff and good ale.

We had a family lunch here today for 7 people. I don’t usually bother writing reviews for places but we were so impressed! The staff were so friendly and helpful, and the food was great. Everyone enjoyed it. The main reason for taking the time to write a review is that when the food arrived one of us had ordered gammon but forgotten to ask for it to be well done. We asked if there was any chance it could be done for a bit longer, and they were some brilliant with it! They brought out more, fresh chips and eggs with it once it was ready. We were so, pleased. It is always hard to find a nice place to eat where the staff are very accommodating with out diabetic needs, for example needing to ask how long the food will be to time doing insulin. Today the staff went out of their way to be helpful. We were also very impressed with the gluten free option! Thank you so much! We will definitely recommend and be back ourselves.

A group of around 15 of us pre booked lunch. The staff were very helpful in making the arrangement and when we arrived were very couteous, efficient and helpful. The food was of a high quality and service excellent.

lovely waiting staff and food. Had the tiger prawn starter and was so yummy and crunchy on the outer shell. The Hake (fish) was so smooth and buttery. Cooked perfectly. The apple and berry crumble, and the lime ginger thing, were both great too. Whatever that lime thing was, would totally recommend.

Popped in for lunch with husband and 2 year old. Car park was busy and there was a massive family group obviously celebrating something so we were a bit dubious. But the layout of the place meant we didn’t feel crowded, and staff managed really well.Alcohol free Ghost Ship on tap was a very welcome sight. Food was delicious. I had the lamb kofta from the special menu and the whole dish was perfectly put together, full of flavour. Husband had chicken burger which he devoured. Standard children’s menu, daughter had chicken goujons and the portion was generous. A really nice spot and we will definitely be back.

We had a wonderful evening visiting for the first time for a meal and a couple of drinks. The ambience was pleasant and the service impeccable. Our waiter, Jasper, was extremely friendly and professional and had good knowledge of the menu and the area.

Visited this pub as part of a group of 16 for mid week lunch .All the staff were very welcoming and pleasant and the food good value . I had the steak and ale pie which had large chunks of meat inside unlike some pub pies . Portions were just the right size and as already stated represented extremely good value . For dessert I had the Strawberry Eton mess and whilst I am a recent convert to Eton mess having been a crumble or sticky toffee pudding man in the past this was the best Eton mess I have tasted . Everyone in our group spoke highly of these premises and I will definitely return .
