The Kandy Bar in North Ayrshire

Our first visit to the Kandy Bar but will definitely not be our last. Friendly, efficient staff. Cleanliness impeccable even picking up things dropped under tables before next customers sit down. Value great, 2 hot sandwiches and 2 hot drinks for under £10. Altogether a great experience from a very busy shop.

We were at a cottage I saltcoats a d visited here daily for brunch. Tables and seats wiped down after each person left. Everything we had was great. Nicest pies a cakes ever ,! TOOK carry outbfor afternoon tea each day. Place very efficiently run and staff very friendly and helpful. Nothing too much trouble. Also chatted to Stephen who I believe was the owner. He was very chatty and o the day we left was ensuring that folk were directed to appropriate queue as shop was very busy. Very well run business and prices very reasonable. Can see why this business is so busy and successful. Cant recommend this highly enough.

Lady behind counter was rubbing her eye asked for my order she put on one glove then lifted rolls with the other hand she had been rubbing her eye with so i walked out wont be back not good guys in this current climate

Very tasty pies, loved them 😋 could eat one now. I enjoyed the meat with mash and beans one the most.

Just love this place, I used to go to school in Saltcoats and despite not living in the area anymore, I travel back to go to this bakery/cafe. Such high quality bakery, love the truffles and my husband loves the crumpets and chocolate éclairs. We also enjoy sitting in the cafe for a pie and chips, again, lovely. But even better than the quality food, is the service. The gentleman at the door welcomes everyone in and directs them to where they're going, he's so welcoming and polite and makes sure you get served promptly without having to sit and wait, they way you have to in other cafes/restaurants. All staff are friendly and are more than happy to get you anything you want, always helpful. Would recommend the Kandy Bar Saltcoats to anyone.

This fine bakery is by far the greatest there is in Ayrshire, and by far the best I have ever tasted food from. Their fresh morning rolls are absolutely mouthwatering and their fine selection of cakes and pastries is amazing. This bakery offers some of the best customer service you will find - with the owner standing outside and greeting people inside and thanking them for their visit upon leaving, often sharing a joke with them when they leave. The Kandy Bar puts the local Greggs bakers to shame with their Yum Yum's and freshly produced, compared to factory made cakes. This is a MUST VISIT if you are going through Saltcoats and you will surely regret never sampling, what I believe is their best product - the Yum Yum.

the rolls are way over-rated and i still prefer mortons crispy rools or even mcgees-caramel shortcake lovely-scotch pies goodservice generally good though one staff member can be heard saying thay have a name for customers who want in 8am sharp-not nice-all custom should be welcomealso i hate seeing the staff on breaks walking around town with their apron on-gathering fumes,road dust etc then serving and working in same apron-we used to get warnings if we kept our aprons on just going to another part of the shop nevermind going outside

I live in Banbury Oxfordshire but originally from isle of Arran every time I visit my return journey must be a stop at kandy bar I get at least 2 dozen pies and several cakes.Plus tatte scones and rolls I always have a shopping list of things to get for all us Scots that live if England and have never been disappointed they are the best

I’ve used these shops for many years on a weekly basis the cakes are fantastic and the food is delicious especially the pies! The staff are friendly and helpful as well.

We always use this bakery for our pies and cakes , their cold meat is also very good, we are going to England next week to visit my mother in law,and other relatives, were taking with us 16 pies, 6 sausage rolls, and cold meats , and I will have 2 onion pies for myself yummy , keep up the great work through these hard times .

I can’t praise this bakery enough, apart from being so overwhelmed with choice every time I go in, the prices are incredibly cheap considering the quality of the produce. Being a girl from northern England, I’m quite partial to a (decent) pie, but the pies from your shop are by far the best I’ve ever tasted...and don’t get me started on the eclairs! Me and my partner have never had a scotch pie before, but now seem unable to get through a day without one. Please consider nationwide delivery!

Very angry at the attitude of member of staff who was directing customers in the bakery in Hamilton Street. My foot happened to stray slight from the yellow dot and I was treated to a unnecessarily lheavy-handed rebuke from this person. Have shopped in Kandy Bar for many years and always appreciated their good customer service but will be taking my custom elsewhere in future.Have also told friends and family to do likewise

If you can't wait for a great bit of bakery head for The kandy bar at Saltcoats. Great selection and very organised. Don't wait for Greggs get the best

The best pies brides and potato pies around, I only went for two pies but ended up coming home with six, some for the freezer but need to go back as We’ve used all them too!

Cheap and cheerful and very handy to pop into for a bite to eat or a little catch up. The cakes are delicious as are the pies (especially the potato and bean) there soup is also delicious I normally eat at least twice a week from the kandy bar and haven’t complained at all.

Only in for a coffee. Excellent wee place nice friendly staff. Then picking up rolls pies and cakes. First class bakery delicious onion pies. Thoroughly recommended. Wish the had one in Irvine instead of Gregg's.

Out for shopping on a Wednesday afternoon and wanted a coffee etc.It is a very popular place and sometimes difficult to get a seat but is worth waiting for.We ordered tea/coffee scone and cake..Did not wait long for it to arrive...Smiling waitress..Cant say a lot more as we did not have a meal.just a comment------There was only one waitress on the floor serving and she was run off her feet,there was a lot of staff behind the counter---Maybe more floor staff reqd to clear tables etc...Will not stop us from coming back

Lovely wee bakery. With even lovely staff. Huge selection of home made savoury and baking. All food is freshly prepared too order and u can even get your bread rolls and chopped meat in weight. Absolutely delightful wee place. xxx

I've lived in Saltcoats all my life and this place has never disappointed me. There are 2 of them in the town and both are excellent! You'll never find better cakes, pies, crumpets, bread or rolls anywhere better in Ayrshire! Multi-award winning for a reason.

After dinner we fancied something sweet. Because it was after 3pm there wasn't much choice. But there was still plenty to pick from. It's a great bakery and been around forever, they also have wee cafe thru back. Highly recommended.

Visited this place years ago and never forgot their Strawberry tarts or Yum yum which nothing else matches. Well delighted to visit again and both on display. Absolutely beautiful. Can understand why there is always a queue in this small bakery.

We stopped here for lunch and a cup of coffee service is good the food was hot , tasty and freakishly cooked

I wasn’t looking for a bakery on our visit to Saltcoates but decided to pop in and take a look at the cake selection. It was huge and everything looked so good that I just had to buy some. While there, asked what one of the cakes was and the staff were so helpful in describing it. A little later, passed another of their shops so popped in there and got more cakes. The member of staff was very pleasant and we had a good chat about how our cake purchase was helping charity. Such great staff in both shops we went into and beautiful cakes. We will definitely be back soon. Best bakery by far!!!

The Kandy Bar, is a local family business. They have two shops in Saltcoats, one in Dockhead Street, the other with a cafe attached in Hamilton Street, which is at the other end of the town. Their produce is made on the premises, cakes, scones, breads and rolls, on or her side of shop is cold meats, coleslaw plus slice, bacon and blackpudding. The cakes are amazing from plain scones to strawberry tarts! It's a treat to go to the cafe, be it for breakfast, a snack or lunch you won't be disappointed. To finish it off the staff from management, cafe and counter staff are so pleasant. I wouldn't go anywhere else, give it a go, you won't be disappointed!!

Went into this place yesterday after lunch but wasn't very impressed with the lack of cakes and pastry although the cakes I bought were okay

working in Saltcoats for a few weeks, and have visited the Kandy Bar quite a few times for lunch. The choice of cakes, make it hard choice, highly recommend the melting moments, empire biscuits and strawberry tarts, cheese and ham toasties and sausage rolls. Would need to stay longer to recommend more, however I have no doubt that everything is as good as it looks. The staff and friendly. Love a local bakers any time over the usual high street Greggs or Subway.

Back again..friendly staff.. Clean tables etc.. Ordered teas/coffees cakes...good service and quality food...

The Kandy bar is the best baker in Ayrshire. It stays that way as a result of being better than all others.

My partner is from saltcoats and since moving to Glasgow talks non stop about the kandy bar and their pies.

Whether you are just going in to buy some rolls /cakes /pies etc or going into the restaurant you will not be disappointed...I go there for rolls and cakes a lot.. I tried the restaurant for the first time last eek... The staff are very friendly and the menu has a lot on it...The prices are very reasonable...

I love to just look at the cakes on display, something comforting about that .. cakes are great and the bakery items are always so fresh. Plenty of cream in the chocolate eclairs. Its worth waiting in the Q for. Can be very busy. Cafe at the back too is great and reasonably priced.

Out doing bit of shopping with friends and nipped in here for a coffee.....ended up with small breakfast which came with toast and coffee for under £4.....fresh,tasty and great value.

I have never tasted such light bread rolls and the cakes were delicious. Very pleasant staff and very happy to explain some of the fillings of pies to a southerner

I was recently in Saltcoats for work and stopped in to the Kandy Bar for so breakfast. I had a couple of egg and tatie rolls and a bottle of coke all very reasonably priced just over £4 for the lot bargain to say the least for such nice rolls. The staff were all very nice I was also surprised you could pay by card as most places that you get morning rolls don’t not offer this service. The next time I am in the area I will return

We tried the kandy bar for the first time in years, the food was delicious, we got some pies, jammy coconut biscuits, donuts and the best strawberry tarts ive ever had. We will be back soon, the food was excellent.

Staying at sandylands we always visit kandybar my son loves the strawberry tarts. You can even buy the sauce and cases n make your own. I love the apple donuts and the trifle. Staff always friendly.

A decidedly ordinary Scottish bakery in a small Ayrhire town. My children love cakes and were most unimpressed and disappointed. My cold sausage roll was ok. Nothing special

Was there with family and we all enjoyed our lunch, even our fussy grandkids loved it. Cafe is very clean as was the toilets the waitress was lovely, was a really great experience. We will be back.

You must visit this shop/cafe in Saltcoats. The pies are world class and the cakes are the reason why I'm not a size 6.

This is probably the best bakery in the 3 towns, Great selection and also good local products. The takeaway stuff is all very good also

as bakers goes its fairly average the cakes never have any varitety and tend to a tad tasteless and lack variety and imagination within the cakes a pastry area could do with a baker with fresh outlook in cake department and need to visit fisher and donaldson in the fife area for that insperation unfortuntly the standards are a wee bit below par for me to be a regular customer.the famous mince pies are way to greasy aswell

I just love this bakery. There is a great choice of cakes and breads, all of which are delicious. The sliced sausage is the best in ayrshire and must be tried to be appreciated.There is a cafe situated within the bakery where they serve hot food and snacks all of which are really tasty.The only criticism I have is that they don't seem to be consistent on pricing their sandwiches as it seems to change from day to day. Hope they can sort this out.

We visit the Kandy Bar at least once a week, the rolls are the best in town. We also buy square sausage, yum. Our favourite treat at lunch time is the soup and sandwich option, lentil soup and chicken mayonnaise sandwich. The staff are really friendly, would recommend this little cafe/ bakery.

Called for a lunchtime treat when visiting home town. The yearning for a Kandy Bar pie never leaves you !!!!!!Got a table straight away. Few minutes deciding on our order which was taken fairly quickly but without a welcome or eye contact from waitress.Over the years the plates and portions have got decidedly smaller. My OH had a cheeseburger and chips - he had to check there was filling in the roll!!!! He rated it as just ok. I recall the days when burger was hanging out the roll..One person had ordered a doughnut and that was well and truly gone before we went to counter to remind expressionless staff of rest of order.I hasten to add that pies and baked goods were excellent.Mr McAllister, please bring back good portions, better napkins and improved staff training and willingness to please.See you at counter next visit. Will give tearoom a miss.

Always call into the Kandy Bar and buy enough pies, Black Pudding, potato scones to last till our next visit from Chester.

Everytime we are in saltcoats the one thing you notice is just how busy this bakery is, mostly with locals I'd say, but it appears to have won lots of awards for it's goods, we enjoyed, worth a visit when in the area.

Always buy my cakes or rolls from tge kandy bar they also have great brides always clean and tidy shop friendly staff at the dock head branch

We visit hear when in Saltcoats the bakery food is lovely and it has won a few awards .The triangle scones are my favourite , they also have a little butchers and a café .

The Kandy Bar is a top class bakery, great selections of cakes, breads, pastries, etc. It also has a cafe around the back which serves great comfort food. Their Mince pies are award winning and are well worth a try.

The kandy bar is over priced you can get better value for money elsewhere the staff are really nice and seem to work hard as the person who serves also seems to cook your order

Great cream cakes, the scotch pies are to die for, scones are a treat, the wee café thru the back is okay but need to serve fresh coffee not instant coffee. Service was good and it was clean and tidy

Anytime of day you can go in to this establishment and get well fed with really good quality produce. From early morning everything's fresh and well presented in the shop, great we place. Staff are always very helpful & patient. Cakes , rolls, pies, you name it ...., all spot on..!! For a we bakery.., the place gets 9.5 out a 10.....!!!! Superb

40 plus years going into the Kandy bar with my family and it never disappoints you.Beautiful food to eat ( try the Mac and cheese please ), delicious cakes and scones and the most scrumptious pies and sandwiches you have ever tasted. Don't even get me started on the wonderful home made soup.Great service by Kirsty today who asked all the right questions and promptly brought the food at the right time. Well done ! Staff much improved....you didn't feel you were interrupting their conversation.Just soooo wish there was a Kandy bar in Glasgow.

I ave tried the empire biscuits, the sausage rolls, hot cross buns, apple pic , ginger cake, bumper buns, pineapple cakes and they were all really nice.

If you want to pile the pounds on this the place to be.This bakery and tea room sell the finest of Scottish fare from award winning pies to everything a traditional bake house should produce the choice is amazing.Word of warning it's not the cheapest, but the quality is first class one strawberry tart is never enough.

They make a pure quality crumpet. Amazeballs with butter and jam. Best bit of crumpet ever. Woop woop

Passing through West Kilbride the other day and came across the Kandy Bar bakers in the main st. I love a good pie and this was the first pie ive tasted fromthe Kandy Bar. Got 2 onion pies some rolls and a pastry. Top notch , easily the best pies in Ayrshire and ive tasted a few including the 2017 scotch pie winners. Needless to say ill be back again very soon.

We used to always stop in at this place when we would visit the isles. and after many years I have to say this place bores me, bad coffee certainly not fitting for a supposed top cafe and from both stores in saltcoats, very bad, infact in one store they need to get a new machine I would say as it tastes metalic. I even heard 2 older gals mention that as we qued in their local Greggs of which im not the biggest fan either though there breakfast deal is far superior and more worthy of the price. Prices are not the greatest either quite a bit expensive for the quality of the food offered and the cakes are nice but it has been the same ones for ever, they could maybe add some new recipes something new and exciting I recently just made a trip to NY and there bakeries put this shop or I would say almost all bakers in scotland to shame, the new and innovating ideas they have are beyond us in so many ways. And when you consider price and the size they get in one cake compared to ours for price and size etc its almost laughable. I know tradition is good but jings change the record. I have informed my US friends about possible investment over here I believe in any small town and city in the UK the yanks could realy take over the market. Sad to see us falling behind in such a way. Then again always someone and something else to come along and make things better than they are or dreamed they ever could be.

The Kandy Bar is a great bakery which s perfect for enjoying traditional Scottish fayre. The cakes are fantastic, as are the savouries, as are the filled rolls! Consider myself a regular who never leaves disappointed or empty handed. Would highly recommend. Staff are always friendly, helpful and efficient.

Use the kandy bar often in fact I drive down from East Kilbride with orders from family so usually spend a lot. We were down a couple of weeks ago bought loads and we ate in the café. All was great good value until I asked for a pot of water to top up my tea as it had brewed to strong and was a little cold because I ate my soup 1st. I was told by staff that I would need to be charged for a pot of tea if I wanted the water I was shocked to be honest most places automatically bring you hot water with a pot of tea, little things like this can really put you of a place, and I think its a little bit on the mean side.

Fancied an onion pie & decided to try the Kandy bar . Very renowned reputation for great cakes but wasn't sure about there baking. Well I didn't have any reason to worry there pies are delicious & complement thete wonderful cakes. Even returned to get my wife a pie 5mins later , because she would have seen mine & been disappointed if I hadn't brought her one. YUM YUM.

I love the kandy bar as there is such a great selection to choose from for all the family! I drop by for tasty treats! Especially there apple tart!! ( nomnom crust is so amazing!!) we all have our Favourites! Strawberry tarts! coconut and jam ring! My husband always says aye to a pie! Or 2!! (Well they are champion pie makers!!) While the macaroni pie with there totally awesome Coleslaw has my dinner sorted!! And all the staff are so friendly and very helpful!

After the hype of this place, I was looking forward to the food but have found most things I've tried to be rather rubbish. My parents love their pies and bridies, but I could never quite work out why they have a world champion title... Especially when the competition isn't even worldwide. Even the cold meat counter - over priced and not much taste, especially the turkey, quite watery. Please avoid the coleslaw unless you enjoy a mouthful of cheap mayonnaise and over powering onion stuck on your taste buds. But, as I said, my parents love it, hence why I'm not giving it the lowest rating. Plus the cakes and displays looks great though, and all the staff are always lovely.
