Used for first time today. Good portions and well cooked. Cannot tolerate too greasy food so always cautious but very pleased.

Fantastic. Fish & chips were fresh and no grease at all. Great value and excellent service. Planning on going again tomorrow!

I have just had fish and chips from this chippy and it was outstanding. I have had many chippy's in my time and this was by far the best. I phoned in advance and spoke to a very polite lady who took my order. The food was ready to collect in 10 minutes and the collection was a very swift and safe. Huge portions and the fish is to die for. Ray the new owner and his staff are very professional and friendly. We will be back! If you have not visited this chip shop, you are missing out! Give them a visit!

Very large portions and next time my wife and I will get one large fish and chips rather than two. We were staying two miles away but as luck would have it the level crossing on the East Coast mainline was closed as we were heading back. Then when the train went through we had to wait even longer for a second.This meant that the fish and chips were not as warm as we would have liked but they were still excellent.

Went for the first time last week since it was taken over. Food was spot on as was the service! Best thing though was the cost! Cant think of any chippys in the area that are as reasonably priced!! Thanks.

Yesterday (friday 16/04/21) I used this chip shop for the first time since new owners took over, they have very sensible rules in place for covid.Ring your order through and receive a pick up time.I arrived 5 mins before my time,as instructed,there were people waiting outside for their orders.I popped my head round and announced my name and that I was here for an order.The inside has been renovated to a very nice clean new modern standard. I was told please wait and we will call you,an elderly gentleman then entered and asked if he could have fish and chips,he was told by the counter staff "sorry wont be ready for another 50mins" he questioned this, but accepted it and decided not to bother and left.A few moments later another man arrived and shouted into the shop "ray,can you drop us a fish in ?" "yeah,no problem" ???????? really ???? ,then a few moments later someone else,"ray,can you do me two king ribs"??........"yeah,will do" who exactly are these rules for ???? obviously not the chosen few.After receiving my order for the family and getting home,the fish was very pleasant but soggy batter,I believe from having stood in the take away container and steamed,the chips were luke warm,dishevelled and pretty revolting, not as they used to be, the mushy peas unseasoned and waterey.Needless to say I wont be back,whilst I appreciate the new owners are trying to please the regulars and villagers they fail dismally with everyone else.I worked as catering manager/chef for 35years so I do hope the new owners can respect an honest opnion at least.

Travelled from Seahouses to get fish n chips here, they are that good. Then onto Berwick to try there.

We had fish and chips from here while staying nearby on holiday. It was excellent and very large portions. We were promptly served and asked to wait outside while the food was freshly cooked. Highly recommended.

Sorry to say this was simply the worst piece of haddock I’ve ever had. I could split the batter and slid out the fish, batter was way too thick and under cooked slimy and soggy. It was my first time at this shop and the last. They were way too busy wrapping a pie and chip order. Shame as I’m on south meadows. I do have an idea about fish and chips as I have my own shop. I should have realised what it’s like when the fish was £2.80 And then gave me a fish and a half as well. Date called Friday 16.10.20 lunch not busy as road works blocking shop so no excuse as no one in.

Lovely Chippy .... had a few meals from here lately and have tried the Fish,pie and savouries ,all delicious and healthy portions.

Probably the best value and best quality chippy we have ever found. We had fish and chips and sausage and chips, both brilliant , large portions,and best prices ever (almost haft the price of some others). We definitely wont be going anywhere else when in the area.

Was staying in belford and heard a lot of good reviews about this fish shop. Very friendly people the owner was nice and funny. I got the fish & small chips, partner got batter sausage & chips. Took them back to the cottage we were staying in and was disappointed the fish was nice enough but had to much batter on chips were tasteless. partner took all the batter off his sausage and left most of chips. Sorry but il not be recommending this place. Seems a busy place but sorry not for us.

The fish and chips were excellent. Yes you have to wait because they are cooked to order but that’s not a bad thing.

We were camping in the area and although a number of adverts/guidebooks seemed to suggest that the best place to find "great" fish and chips would be in the town of Seahouses, we decided to ask a local for their advice. We were told John Dory was the place to go but that we might have to wait as everything was cooked to order. Thursday evening at about 6pm in the middle of September meant there were only 3 other (local) people in the queue and I found this out because everybody chats in this shop! Placing the order I watched as the fish was collected from the back, dipped carefully in the batter mix and gently lowered into the sizzling fat. It did bring back childhood memories - Aunty Annie had a fish and chip ship in Scotland and I grew up in a fishing town, I've eaten a lot of fish and chips! These were delicious. When served up, the chips were lighter in colour than I expected but crisp on the outside and fluffy on the inside - just how I think a chip should be! Dinner for two for under a tenner........what a bargain. Thank you!

Fish and chips are always top notch. I hang out for the battered burger and chips, easily the best chip shop in the local area. The chat from behind the counter is always good. In the summer months there is sometimes a queue due to "tourists" but hey hoe, that's life!!

Decent fish and chips, decent price, cooked in beef dripping - taste from the past. A treat. Standard chippy menu, also does haggis (I did not try that).

Wow... you will not be dissapointed. Fried in beef dripping a treat. Cooked fresh to order by friendly staff & is really as cheap as chips. There is always a queue but don't let this put you off, local folk are so friendly.

As far as we were concerned, the best chips in the area. Fried to order, served with a smile. This is a place we will return to, when we are in the area.

You will find the chip shop easily in the village from the permanently extended queue out the door as the service is so slow,haphazard and unprofessional .(the owner asked what everyone in the shop wants writes it on a paper bag and then starts cooking)

It is a good sign when the locals are queued up waiting for the chippy to open. Large portions of excellent fish and chips cooked to order. My daughter loved the mushy peas. It is a small takeaway shop, so we ate in the car. Definitely worth finding John Dory, and the price is about one-half what we paid elsewhere.

Day out at lindisfarne, followed by fish and chips, with sausages. Freshly fried, really light batter. Great banter whilst we waited.

While staying in the local caravan park we visited The John Dory fish and chip shop in the village, after reading some review on trip advisor we thought we were in for a treat, how disappointed we were we had fish and chip each we had to ask what type of fish it was because on the board it just said fish and chips, the owner said it was Haddock.it was cooked to order, It was just ok the chips were cold and dry. Very mediocre would use again. The only saving grace is that they were very cheap.

Visited here whilst on holiday at Haggerston castle the food stayed hot until we got back to the caravan. The batter was delicious and we all thoroughly enjoyed our food. Highly recommended this place if in the area. Very friendly place

We are now on our summer hours, Tuesday till Saturday 5 pm till 8 pm, and Friday and Saturday 12 noon till 2 pm. We cook in beef dripping, and it’s cash only. We fry to order for a fresher product, Thanks for your support.

The first time i have fish and chips cooked in beef dripping , very tasty and crisp. Just blown away brilliant value at £4.60 try getting that down south. If your in Belford go and get your supper here. Opening time is limited so arrive between 5pm and 8pm don't be late it says so on the sign outside! All worth it.

It may not be very pretty from the outside and we had to wait 20 min but where else can you get fish and chips cooked in dripping for £4.60!!!!

Ok, so I'll admit I'm a Yorkshire girl and that does mean I like great value for money. The John Dory delivers on that and with tasty fish and chips to boot. Unlike the other offerings in the area. What a find this place was (thank you Trip Advisor!).

How convenient to be able to do your washing in the Laundrette and then to order your fish and chips for dinner immediately afterwards. We had been walking St Oswald’s Way and had completed the stage from Holy Isle to Belford. Having read the excellent reviews about the John Dory Fish and Chip Shop on Trip Advisor we were determined to go there after passing it on our way into the village. We were delighted to have made this decision after ordering the Scampi and Chips and the Fish and Chips respectively. We had this really enjoyable meal, accompanied by a bottle of wine from the local supermarket, in the garden of our B&B.; A really memorable meal. The shop was very busy from its 5.00 p.m. opening time when we were there. The attached laundrette is perfect for walkers.

Came here with my girlfriend as it was right opposite our Air BnB - absolutely amazing food and a really friendly reception. The haggis was gorgeous, and the beef dripping chips were delicious. The other chippies in the area don't even come close!

This is a chippy not to be missed. Piping hot fish and chips done in a lovely batter (beef dripping we think but not certain) and so cheap £9.80 for cod and chips X2 and both the fish and the chips were good portions. I don't often bother to write reviews on here but this place really deserves it. Visit, purchase and enjoy

Passing through Belford today and stopped Haggis and chips. The shop doesn’t look much from the outside but the food was fresh to order. The chips were as good as I have tasted. The batter on the Haggis was perfect. Haggis was really nice. Cost £3.40 which is a good £1 cheaper than most other chip shops.

Great fish and fabulous chips served by the owner who is real character. Can highly recommend and will definitely visit again

We were visiting Cragside NT property and heading towards our overnight stay, a quick research of Tripadvisor had located the John Dory chip shop and it had excellent grades and reviews, so we thought we would give it a go. Well it is a small shop in a side street with a big queue, but it was well worth the wait. The owner was working flat out to dish up freshly cooked to order some of the best fish and chips you will ever get. The portions were huge and at a price that you would pay 50% more down south. The owner is clearly passionate about his food and clearly is on great terms with the locals which is great to see in this day and age. Wouldn't hesitate to return if we ever find ourselves in the area again, and that as they say is the acid test.

What a rare find! The owner is a true legend with pride in his work. Beautiful flaky fresh fish in crisp batter, awesome tasting 'proper' chips cooked to perfection. Super value for money, generous size portion and worth the wait in what ever the weather. Thank you, we'll be back every time we're up in stunning Northumberland.

What an amazing, friendly place. The owner is a gem, the food is to die for. Chips cooked in beef dripping, the battered haggis is something else. All food is temperature checked before it is served. I cannot recommend this place highly enough.

Excellent food. i particularly like the haggis and chips, The fish and chips. The sausage and chips. But not all at the same time I might add.We take our caravan to Seahouses at least once a year and we always travel to Belford as it is worth the distance to get the best.

We stayed in Belford for a week and having read the reviews on here, decided to try the local chippy. The fish and chips were great...cooked to order, light crispy batter & value for money. We ended up having them again later in our stay. Would definitely recommend!

Found this gem during our week's holiday just outside Belford. Definitely a contender for the best fish and chips this year; so good we went twice. Everything is cooked to order, so you're not getting something that's been kept warm for so long its gone tough and leathery. Superbly battered fish and crisp golden chips in HUGE portions that even managed to fill my 16 year old son - no mean feat!!

We visited here when staying in nearby Fenwick. We needed to get something quick to eat for the kids in the evening and with late opening this was perfect. Service was great and we didn’t doubt the quality judging by the queue that formed behind us as we waited. We were ordering for ten of us but they must be well used to larger parties as we didn’t have to wait long at all. The food was delicious too - it might not be the best fish and chips I’ve ever had but, to quote Brian Clough, they were definitely in the top one!

This is our second fish & chip supper from John Dory and is still as good as the first. Great tasting fish & chips just how as they were years ago. Fish is first class and the chips are cooked in beef dripping. Could not believe the price compared to what we pay in the south of England. Staff are friendly and seem happy in what they are doing. No wonder there is a long queue. Will make a point of a return visit next time we are in the area

We visited here after a long day at Holy Island and we were not disappointed. We had 2 portions of fish and chips. Very reasonably priced for the size of the large portions. The food was cooked to order and it was piping hot and plenty of it. In fact too much!! It is cooked in beef dripping and they were the best chips I’ve ever tasted. The staff were very friendly.

So, we that lads went to the Black Swan and the girls stayed home, ordered four or five portions of F & C's and thats all I heard after, that fish was wonderful, flaky batter was light and crisp, so its worth a review because the girls were really happy. Thank You John Dory

My wife & I had forgotten the part about the chips being cooked in beef dripping; the considered 'old fashioned way'. I myself used to use that instead of cooking oils many, many years ago.

All I can say is 'wow'. Fantastic fish and chips, cooked in dripping rather than oil and the flavour is absolutely amazing. Huge portions and lovely, friendly staff. Under £10 for two portions of fish and chips. What more could you ask for!! Thank you

It's so wonderful to be near the sea and get fish that tastes as fresh as this. the chips were good too - all at a very reasonable price.

We loved this fish and chip shop, queue of locals always a good sign, very traditional inside, the owner was welcoming and funny too, lots of stuff on the menu we don't have round our way, smokies, haggis, patty and more. Our food was all freshly cooked and delicious, would highly recommend. (Loved the big inflatable fish on a bicycle on the roof to celebrate the Tour Of Britain passing through too)

Visited whilst out on a family birthday. Absolutely fab!! Spoke to the owner, great guy. Food outstanding and absolutely the best Chippie I've had outside Yorkshire. All the more for the FREE chips and curry sauce at the end of the night. Well worth the visit, you won't be disappointed.
