After reading some of the negative reviews on the Jews House I still resolved to give it a go if only for the wonderful history of the building. I had recently published a book which included the Jewish cemetery in Bath and had developed a strong interest in British/Jewish history so my wife and i made our way to Lincoln to see this the oldest constantly occupied dwelling in Europe. OK we were a touch disappointed that it was mostly modernised inside but this is a working restaurant not a museum however the exterior was worth the trip and the delightful proprietor gave us a fascinating history of the house and the difficulties she had suffered at the hands of a rather uncaring council. Anyway we settled down to dine. The wine was good but as I chose a lesser priced one I did not expect anything too impressive but we were pleased that even that was above average for the price. Some reviewers had complained about the size of the portions for the price but this is fine dining not a cafe and the food is extremely good. The chef does earn his money and the prices reflect the quality. You would pay far more in London for such high standard cuisine. My wife is a vegetarian and although the choices were limited what there was certainly made up for it. The staff were prompt and courteous. There was no shortage of detailed information about each dish and the atmosphere and company were delightful. A small number of tables meant that we were all soon chatting merrily prompted by Samantha the proprietor who spent far more time than many proprietors might making us all feel welcome and included in the general chat. I would certainly return and highly recommend.

Food was delicious although a star is lost for the very small portion size, I'm not a big eater and could have definitely eaten more. Service was outstanding, and the wine recommendations were fantastic.

Bunty's Tearoom

04/10/2019: Another successful visit and a warm welcome. We each chose a different cake and tried each others with great satisfaction. Owners and staff delightful.
20/08/2019: Buntys is located half way up Steep Hill and having walked from the bottom of the hill we deserved a drink and a snack.

The Cheese Society

27/11/2019: My colleague and visited The Cheese Society back in February and decided that whilst we were in Lincoln on Tuesday 26th we would visit it again as we enjoyed ourselves so much last time.
07/08/2019: Just off the top of the high street is this boutique cheesery where they sell artisan british cheeses. There’s usually a free free sample tasters on the counter top. Eat in or to go, it’s clean and friendly and a nice spot to casually eat.
