Was camping nearby and found this takeaway on Google. Really pleasantly surprised - a little gem! The best sweet and sour chicken balls I’ve ever had, everything was really hot and fresh. The curry sauce tasted a little bit like Katsu curry which isn’t a bad thing - delicious! And it was very reasonably priced too! Would definitely return if I was in the area. :)

Absolutely beautiful food, best Chinese in the Galloway. Cantonese style char siu fried rice may be one of the best dishes I've ever eaten, and not just out of Chinese food, so soft and aromatic

Don't get me wrong, I know Chinese isn't health food. But this was just horrible. Chicken chow mein swimming in grease, the curry sauce had been put in the bag on it's side so it leaked out over everything, through the bag and all over my car floor. The spring roll had so much grease it disintegrated the paper bag and the bottom fell out of the bag as well as the roll. What was left of the curry sauce was tasty, what I managed to save of the spring roll was OK. I'm never going back.

Quite frankly.....awful. Cheap chicken leg meat and weak sauce in Kung Po. Second time ordering the same, and both now confirm. Cheap ingredients, inexperienced chef and result is very poor quality. Good luck!

Staying in Sandy hills so ordered meal at 5:30 over the phone which was Cantonese crispy duck with cashew nuts & a large spring roll, to pick up for 7:30. Got there and had to wait an extra 15 minutes for food, considering I rang 2 hours in advance. Got back to lodge and plated Chinese, totally wrong order! The sauce was bland and more gravy like, it contained chicken, tomatoes and no cashew nuts, the spring roll was literally packed with bean sprouts and one baby prawn. Would NOT recommend and will not be returning. We’ve been a few times past visits and normally okay.. this time disappointing!

Decided to get a take away meal for a group celebrating a birthday party, I ordered chilli chicken, it was cold and inedible. The sauce was almost pure vinegar, the meal was a congealed mess, it was the worst Chinese meal I have had. The majority of everyone's food was put in the bin, wished I had opted for fish and chips from the local fish and chip shop. I would never eat food from the Jade Palace again.

The Jade is a CD institution. The food and the flavours are always first class and the fact that the place is usually always busy with takeaways and sit down meals is testament to this. Ok it’s not the fanciest of places, the carpet could do with a good shampoo and the toilets are horrible (I try to avoid having to go.....) but the food is fabulous.Never had a bad meal there in 20+ years. On holiday in Castle Douglas and decided to have our usual Chinese takeaway Chicken Maryland from the Jade Palace......huge mistake. This is the worst Chicken Maryland we have ever tasted. The batter was soggy, the "bacon" was artificial and the chicken not nice and was all binned except for the chips, so we ended up with the very expensive portion of chips which were average. We certainly would never use this place again. The only redeeming feature was that we didn't have long to wait for the order.

I ordered a takeaway to collect 45 minutes later. When my son arrived he told them who he was and asked for other food. It wasn't ready. After waiting 20 minutes he called me to say the food still hadn't come out. My husband called to find out the problem. First he was told it was late as they were so busy and then the waitress stared arguing/telling off a colleague saying she had called out our order twice. My son didn't hear them call at all and doesn't believe they did as he was waiting anxiously for the food! My husband was gobsmacked at the lack of customer service and they way the staff talked to a colleague whilst he could hear. No apologies at all. One dish was wrong when opened so my husband called again and spoke to manager this time. He was at least apologetic. Although the manager was decent we are not confident about returning now.

For a Chinese takeaway 'fast food' establishment, every visit we have paid to Jade Palace once to sit down a a few times for take out, we have encountered the most unbelievably ridiculous waiting times. The restaurant is in major need of a new carpet, the current floor is in a dreadful state and a lick of paint would work wonders to brighten the place. The 'waiting area' for take aways definitely needs improved/reorganised rather than having a constant crowd gathered around the front door providing spectators for people trying to enjoy a quiet sit down meal. The food in Jade Palace is probably the best of very limited options for Chinese in the Castle Douglas area, but the hour waiting times for a take away, (on a good night!) and lack of organisation in the restaurant is a major off put. If you're in a hurry for a meal/take out then this is not the place for you.

We've visited and eaten here twice. The first time was four years ago and recently, last Friday. We were delighted to discover that a) it was still there, in the same place b) the food was better than we remembered and c) it was more popular than the last time, with people from a variety of age-groups!We had a plate of their Special Rice Noodles; Special Fried Rice and Honey Chilli BBQ Ribs washed down with a pot of Chinese tea. The ribs were succulent and delicious; the noodles were YUM, the rice was good although they could consider doing away with the sauce they pour on top of it as it tends to take over. The staff were very friendly and smiley. The place was chock a block full till around 8pm post when there were loads of people coming in for takeaways - some carrying boxes full of food! The Scotland vs England match was on that night, I think! We shall go back for more before our visit to Castle Douglas gets over next week.

Went on a Saturday lunchtime after reading about the now £5.10 (was 4.90) lunch menu. Couldn't believe the quality of the ribs. The chow mein was simply the best I ever had. My 3 year old, a fussy eater, picked away at most things and ate most of what was put in front of her, the wife and I were shocked. £23 for three 3 course meals with drinks was exceptional value. We returned the next night to get the full menu. The wife had squid to start which was absolutely outstanding. I had garlic chilli ribs which were also delicious. I couldn't not get chow mein although the large menu did have me swaying from dish to dish. The wife had sizzling garlic chicken which was really tasty. £34 for 3 starters, 2 mains and a fruit salad with drinks again ridiculous value. I dare say this restaurant will have me visiting the area again as unfortunately I don't stay near. It was packed with take aways on the Sunday, the man working in the restaurant, Charlie, seems to have a great relationship with locals and no wonder with the food he provides. We shall return!

We went along on a Sunday evening around 6ish. We are a family of four with 13 and 10 year old daughter's. We ordered TG he set menu for 2 and ham omelette and french fries for the children. Firstly, toilet floor was slippy as an ice rink. Our youngest, whilst showing mum where the toilet was, went skating across the toilet floor, lost balance and then grabbed onto the sink for balance - the sink then fell away from wall completely! The men's toilet had no toilet seat at all so if you're likely to go for a number 2 during your visit ypuight want to near this mind. The service and set menu was good but Sunday night is obviously take away night and the kitchen seemed to be struggling ... our set menu took 3 waitresses several trips from kitchen to table. The ham omelettes were loaded with ham to the point you may have asked where's the omelette? One of the 3 waitresses didn't seem to know the contents of the set menu with us telling her what was included - nearly ended up with no eighties style gateaux. A good Chinese take away eaten in a slightly jaded Chinese restaurant.

Castle Douglas is the self styled Food Town, and there are many lovely little cafe's and coffee shops poised to take your hard earned pounds. However, whenever I am in Food Town, and I go a lot as it is down the road from my little cottage, then I always head straight for the Jade Palace. It is a great restaurant, top food and fast service. There are quibbles, it isn't open Monday/Tuesday, it serves lunch 12-2, but you have to get there really before 1.30 to get a guaranteed seat (they sometimes refuse the later diner and really look to close at 2.) Also, it is hard to see in and get the feel for the place, and once in it is a little dark. But these are only quibbles. I go to the Jade Palace because the food is brilliant, the service is fast and friendly, it is clean, and the value of the set lunch is unquestionably phenomenal. Surely these are the best reasons to choose where you eat, rather than anything else. Yes there are better "looking" places, but I have not sampled a better tasting lunch in Food Town at any point. We eat our lunches, so it is best to visit those places where the food puts a smile on our faces and in our bellies.

Banquets are great value. New dishes recently added which are superior to those previously offered which makes what was already a great place to eat even better.

We had a simple dinner of 2 courses each, all of which were horrible and not wanting to complain brought our concerns to the waitress's attention who was not concerned and once paid we asked to speak with a manager to which we were told emphatically no as he was way too busy to be disturbed. Both my husband and I still have unwell tummies 2 nights after our meal.

We've visited this restaurant a few times now, will return again. Our latest visit was just last night, we popped in for sizzling chicken in garlic & spring onion, with fried rice. Two main courses & rice, two drinks, £23. We were in & out in less than an hour; fast service, accurate serving, good attentive staff. Even served Guinness! I've also had the sizzling fillet beef in satay which was good. Disappointed that the plain chow mein was just noodles though. The restaurant certainly lacks any pretentious classiness, so if it's a quiet romantic meal you're after maybe try somewhere else. It's a busy place with the doorway frequently choked with people hanging around waiting for take-away orders. The toilets are in need of upgrading (to put it mildly - kitchen roll on a coathanger for hand-drying being a notable feature) so if you're of a sensitive nature it's not the place for you, but we walked in off the street in walking boots & muddy trousers and no-one batted an eyelid. Quite happy!

My Partner and I had a meal in this restaurant on Friday 2nd October and we could not fault the food at all. The service was to a very high standard as it always is . I had spare ribs , chicken curry and fried rice and banana fritter, my partner had a spring roll, chicken fried rice, then apple tart and cream, which was all very reasonably priced and cooked to perfection . The young waitress was very pleasant and mannerly and of course, Charlie was his usual cheery self. At NO time have we ever experienced any rudeness from the staff as stated in other reviews. The restaurant is very well furnished and spotlessly clean as were the toilets. if you are ever in Castle Douglas and want good this is the place to go to, you certainly wont be disappointed that's for sure. Keep up the good work Charlie and keep on smiling , we look forward to seeing you again in the near future.

Very good service and the quality of the food was good. Didn't experience any rudeness as some commented. The only problem I encountered was the lack of choice for those of us who cannot eat MSG; something that is added to Asian food all too often.

Nice enough inside. They got the order wrong in the kitchen so I asked for a complimentary dessert and was told "In your dreams" and then "Ok, since it's you". They didn't ask if we wanted coffee and took ages to bring the bill. Noodles tasted metallic and too much egg in the rice. Drinks pricey

We found this restaurant in our first night. From the outside it didn't look much but the food was excellent. The restaurant offers a take-away service as well so it can get a bit busy at times. The service is good and staff very helpful and friendly.

We had the aromatic duck pancakes to start which were outstanding. I had sweet and sour chicken and it was lovely. My husband had a delicious beef curry. You could tell that the food was cooked traditionally without all the msg rubbish they put in sauces in most take aways these days. The decor is tired but the atmosphere and delicious food make up for it. Worth a try.

A popular resturant as the best chinese in the town, but that means you end up waiting for ages while they cover the long queue for takeaways - at one point the whole resturant was waiting for food. For £11 a head, the banquets are good value and the food ok for the price when it arrives. The place itself is tired and much like the rest of town looks like it was last refurbished around 40 years ago.

From the outside the restaurant looked very tired and in desperate need of refurbishment - however we decided to give it a go with as tripadvisor rating was 17 best places to eat in Castle Douglas.Going in we initially got a lovely warm welcome, so I still tried to remain positive and choose to try and ignore the state of the walls, carpet etc.Should have trusted my instinct - I truly believe every single person in that restaurant were served before us no matter when they came in. The service was terrible, they were so rude, didn't even look at us when taking our order. Waited over an hour for our food to be served while we watched everyone else receive theirs - it was SO NOT WORTH THE WAIT! Worst tasting Chinese food I have ever eaten. I do not recommend this restaurant. It's filthy, the service terrible and the food even worse!

As a lover of chinese food, I regularly eat this cuisine & whilst on holiday near Castle Douglas came across this restaurant. From the outside the restaurant looked a little tired & dated but the service & attentive staff in addition to probably the best chinese food I've had in years really made up for it.Thank you so much for the experience, my local restaurants could learn a lot from your food.

Food was excellent!! We got the set menu for 2 people, there was so much food we struggled to finish it. One of the best Chinese meals I have ever had. Everything tasted so fresh. The staff were really nice and friendly too. We got 2 x won ton soup to start, 2 x special rice, pancake roll, lemon chicken, sizzling beef and prawn crackers. For dessert - pineapple fritters for me and ice cream for my hubby, followed by a pot of green tea! All for £23!!

Great Chinese and Wee Charlie always makes you so welcome.......Get the mixed starter for four, great selection, good portions and the sizzling fillet steak dishes are my favourite, book if your going Fri or Sat just to make sure you get a table.Been going for years, decor is like the 70s Chinese, not retro just never been touched since the 70s haha, Portable gas heaters in the Winter are just part of the quirky look of this wee JEM.If your in Castle Douglas or local try this Chinese you won't be disappointed and say hello to CHARLIE, who can also be spotted out jogging with two large bin lid headphones on around the town.

First impressions count so really its time the owner wakened up and spent some money on paint decor and cleaning. You have decent food but people will stop coming if the outside and inside doesn't look clean and inviting. OK for a sit in Chinese but there are better places to eat in the town.
