The Ivy House is a "destination pub" on the main road between Amersham and Chalfont St Giles. It has a large car park but we decided to walk there for Sunday Roast. We started in Chalfont St Giles and followed the path opposite The Merlins Cave pub called Stratton Chase. You have to cross the busy A413 at the end but the walk is lovely and takes around 40 minutes. Our table was booked for 2.15, but we arrived early and ordered some drinks at the bar. It was busy but we only had to wait 5 minutes before being shown to our table. There are some great starters on the menu but we went straight in and ordered mains ( 2 x roast beef, 1 Veggie burger and 1 chicken burger). There's a good wine list and we ordered a bottle of Chilean Malbec and NZ Sauvignon. The Malbec went really well with the beef. The beef arrived medium-rare which was perfect and came with the usual trimmings but we also ordered a side of cauliflower cheese. The Ivy house is on the top of my list for Sunday roast and it didn't disappoint. So the food is great, the beers and wines are excellent value but what makes a good pub a great pub is the service. It was really busy, nearly every table full and yet the service was unrushed and relaxed. Drinks came to the table within minutes of ordering and the food came out about 10 minutes of ordering, just enough time to chat, taste the wine and relax. I know lots of pubs are closing down due to many factors but this place certainly won't be one of them because they care, they obviously understand the customer and have designed the whole place with the customer at the heart of it.

We met up with friends for a weekday lunch. It’s a traditional looking pub, wood floored and nicely finished. We had the fish and chips which was fresh, nicely cooked with crispy batter. The chips were cut to fluted shape which was novel and nicely done. Simple stuff done well. The service felt a little cool at first but warmed up after a few minutes. Not much else to tell really.

I moved to the area a few years ago and have sampled the cuisine from a whole abundance of the pubs/restaurants in the south bucks area. This was the first time visiting the ivy house on recommendation from a work colleague and it definitely did not disappoint!! The staff were extremely attentive and accommodating, one member of our party is a celiac and vegetarian, this can sometimes be difficult for places to cater for but not here. They did their utmost to assist and the whole meal was exquisite. Best overall experience we have had in the south bucks area so far and will 100% be recommending to anybody that listens. Wonderful experience!

Our friend who took us told us beforehand had been here before and told us that both the food and service was very good. All three of us ( our friend included) were very disappointed. The service was poor - the 3 young wait staff seemed more intent on chatting than ensuring customers were looked after. We waited 10+ minutes for a menu so I got up and found some. I went to the bar to order drinks as no-one came to ask, and after we had finished our main course after 15 minutes I retrieved a desert menu, On drink ordered half way thru the meal never arrived. The 3 meals we had - only one was acceptable, with one being only half eaten before our friend gave up ! Sadly we all agreed - never again

We booked an early lunch at 1245 and arrived on time; there were two other customers in the bar. Good first impressions of the surroundings were immediately spoilt by the 'welcome' from a disinterested and condescending young woman who gave the appearance of wanting to be anywhere other than helping us. Having said there would be table service, an order of drinks came quickly; unfortunately, when they arrived, the beer was spilt across a 'matless' table and ignored while our 'waitress' departed for other, obviously more 'important duties'. Having been asked, she begrudgingly returned to wipe off the table top and take our meal orders. I suppose that a wait of 35 minutes is to be expected if food is freshly cooked, even if there are very few other customers, but the underwhelming salmon fishcakes (£15.95) served with and a tablespoon of mixed salad really did disappoint. Having moved to the area recently we had hoped this would be our 'local' to enjoy and entertain friends. We shall not return.

I stayed overnight here whilst visiting family and was given the Highlander room. The Ivy House website states: 'For a truly memorable stay in Chalfont St Giles, check in to one of our five deluxe doubles. Spacious and stylish, these beautifully appointed rooms each enjoy an ensuite bathroom with standalone shower and all manner of mod cons to make you feel right at home' Well all I can say is 'spacious' and stylish it certainly is not! Please see the pics but in a nutshell: - Mould in the shower - Shower positioned so close to the wall in the cubicle that you can't position yourself fully underneath it! - Cracked bathroom sink - Toilet so close and crammed - your knees touch the sink unit. - Small and rather claustrophobic - certainly not spacious! - Room does not have double glazing - so you here ALL the busy traffic outside. Absolutely awful - how they can justify the price is beyond me! All I will say is that Jamie who was on shift did at least apologise and give me a drink on the house. Do yourself a favour - don't stay here!

The playground area was covered in huge piles of dog poo we couldn’t stay! Even If you didn’t have children you still would be sat right by it?! Very unhygienic and unappealing. On leaving we explaining why and didn’t get much of a reaction! We had a recommendation from ‘Baby in Bucks’ article, the photo they show is not accurate. Needs removing as nobody should want their child to play surrounded by such a lot of dog poo!!

Other dishes the family choose included fish-and-chips, lamb cutlets, soup and prawn cocktail. Could not fault any. Friendly service, good range of real ales, a proper pub.

Disappointment. Yesterday we tried for first time the bbq steakhouse. When we got there was quite busy + quiz night. We sat inside and ordered drinks and food very quick but we have to wait more than half and hour for starters and then mains to come from the kitchen. Food was good and well presented but we ordered pork belly which was very spicy. We didn't bother to tell them for not waiting another 30 min to be served.

This is an establishment we always drive past on route to London and we always say “we should stop there one day”. So we did.. the bar is set out nicely with large tables and chairs. Good drink and food menu. We had the dog with us and staff pointed us in the direction of the garden. A nice enclosed area with bench tables. We ordered food and it was very nice. The Belly Pork and ribs dishes. As we walked back through we noticed a well appointed restaurant area. All in all a great visit. We will visit again soon.

What a wonderful find. My wife and I decided to go out to lunch and go somewhere new. After a bit of research I found this beauty online and off we went. Luckily it was pretty quiet and we got a table in the garden. The young lady who served us (so sorry we forgot to ask your name) was a credit to the pub. Helpful, friendly and speedy with our drinks. We chose the beef and ale pie and ribs (from the smoker) for our mains and creme brulee and bread and butter pudding for our desserts. It was all really tasty and the meat fell off the bones on the ribs. Are there any downsides? Well, the pub is next door to a golf course and at one point a golf ball came into the garden via several trees. Will most definitely be coming back. Thank you all

We've been goning on many walks during lockdown with a major, major aspect lacking - a good pub to stop at along the way. It's a real welcome sight to see a pub open again and particularly an old favourite such as The Ivy. They've made a few changes to cope with the new requirements which weren't imposing at all. We'd booked in advance for a garden/outside table, which to be fair, we needn't have done in retrospect since there was loads of space. We were welcomed upon entry and signed in (you may want to take you're own pen if you don't want to share!) and then went through the pub where only a single table was occupied out to the small enclosed court yard area where there are several tables, all adequately spaced. We were the only guests outside at that stage.A disposable menu was provided and our order for drinks taken by the waiter. The drinks arrived very quickly (sparkling water and fresh lime and a London Pride) and were closely followed by our food order which was a Walnut and cheese salad and beer battered fish 'n chips. The Pride was so good and welcome that I felt it only right and proper to see if it was a one-off - it wasn't, the second was just as good. The report back on the walnut salad was extremely favourable as was my experience of the fish and chips. The fish was succulent and the batter crisp and not greasy whilst the fluted chips were spot on.We utilised a 15% off voucher but even if it hadn't been available the whole experience represented very good value all round. We will definately be revisiting to restock energy for the walk home again shortly I'm certain.I continue to recommend as one of the best pubs in the area.

On booking I did realise the property was old and would have limitations to size but there is no excuse to have mould in the shower cubicle, and the electric plugs hidden by heavy furniture. Comfortable bed; but the bedroom size would not be suitable for the less able. Freshly cooked breakfasts would be enhanced by the availability of fruit or yoghurt. Staff were very good. But at £90 for an out of season Sunday was too high for this room.

The Ivy House is a great pub and does good food, however, last week I dropped in for lunch with a friend and we both had the most amazing sandwich. The Roasted Halloumi, Peppers and onion jam sandwich was the best sandwich I have ever had!! I normally do not have the sandwiches in The Ivy House because there are other good things on the menu but fortunately last week i did not want a meal so went for one, so pleased i did it was a treat. Happy Day.

Really like it here - very decent Sunday roast and the main meals are great too. Arancini are always excellent and I’ve enjoyed their pies too. Even the vegetarian tart has been tried in the past and it was superb.

A cosy decor [with fake fire] for a lunchtime meal. Food was good together with the service. We dined off the a la carte menu but the set menu looked good value. Would try again.

I have seen this pub for many years but never gone into it - my mistake! Our group of 4 went on a saturday night and although it was very busy, it was a very satisfactory evening. It has a large car park above the pub and steps that go down to it, so this can be a bit dodgy in the wet and dark. However, once inside, the pub is good. We all had a three course meal, for which the prices were very reasonable. The menu is basically "pub grub" and the portions are a really good size. I can recommend the BBQ ribs, which are really good. Maybe we could have been given a finger bowl to rinse our fingers, but that is no real issue!. The beer was very drinkable - as Fullers always is! The wine list is practical, reasonably priced and sensible.Despite being very busy, the service was good and as fast as one may expect under such conditions. The staff were friendly, attentive and helpful - no issues! Seating was adequate and we were not on top of the next tables; despite being very busy, we could easily hold a conversation.

We held my daughters birthday celebrations in the restaurant. We had a sit down meal for 24 people. The food was really good and we all had the choice of the whole menu. The staff were really good and attentive. The food was served in good time and the staff were around to take drinks orders. A great evening with family is a fantastic location would highly recommend

Always good food and plenty to choose from. Cater for dietary requirements. Even though full the service was just right between courses and friendly. Always book first and request the restaurant and not the bar area.

This restaurant is beautifully decorated, has delicious food and lovely staff, and plenty of convenient parking, but a loud family with a crying baby ruined our conversation during our meal.

Five of us attended for Christmas Lunch last Friday 20/12/19, three of us ate the three-course Christmas lunch, we did not think the food was very good value for money, the starters were O.K.but the main course was a very small portion, that consisted of two small slices of Turkey off of a four-inch role of turkey, three pre-cooked potatoes, a scoop of mixed veg, and a large Yorkshire Pudding, the puddings were tasty but very small also.

Nice little pub. food was great, not too much choice on the menu. We were saved promptly by polite staff. The pumpkin soup start was really tasty and my family enjoyed their desserts. Worth a visit and I would go again. Fuller's do great pubs.

On each occasion we visit, (around every two months), the food is to the same tasty high standards, with friendly efficient service. We always try a different dish, and are never disappointed. Last night we tried two different pies (fish and chicken), both beautifully cooked, packed full and delicious. Can't praise highly enough, a regular on our route and soon to be visited again soon.

After spending a family day out getting soaked in London we were desperate for a nice hot meal, after being rudely turned away at one pub we tried here, our hearts sank when we drove into an absolutely cram packed car park, me and my youngest went on ahead, the time was now 8pm, are you still serving food I ask, yes till 9:30, is it just for 2, no 5 of us, ok but will be about 30 minutes. Fine we had drinks at the bar. Sure enough 30 minutes later we were shown to our table, my daughter has Aspergers so sometimes even menus can be overwhelming to her, but no, she chose the bacon cheeseburger, my boys both had fish and chips, my wife had fishcakes and I had the beef and ale pie. My wife loved her meal as did the boys, my daughter insisted that the chef came out to receive her praise, they obliged and although the appearance of a female chef threw her for a couple of seconds she proceeded to tell her how nice it was. My meal was lovely, only downside if there can be one, the mash portion was a little on the small side. This is possibly my longest review but it was worth it.

We came for a lunch on a Monday but there were a few tables already occupied. Good set menu and price. Nice service and setting. Plenty of spaces in the private car park. Only minus was that it was quite dark inside which meant we had to light the torch on our phones to read it! Would definitely come back.

We were invited to have lunch at this establishment by an old school friend. My meal of bangers and mash was nice enough but I requested no parsnips shavings but it came with them . My wife’s lemon chicken was very dry and over cooked as was my friend’s fish cake . Our order for ice creams was also mixed up . The young ladies , who served us seemed bored and uninterested in what they were doing. A real shame as the restaurant looked so inviting. We will not return.
