We had a lovely meal here with family. The food was delicious and the turnaround was quick. The staff were attentive and professional.

Not great, food is so-so, I've had better Carbonara's out of a microwave with more pancetta in them. Service needs improvement. We were never asked if we wanted any drinks just forgotten about on the side with empty glasses. Finally asked if we could get our bill so we could leave and they forgot so had to ask again. It took longer to get the bill than it took to get the food. Need much better staff in the front of house. I wouldn't go back.

I had a wonderful meal and evening at this family-run Italian restaurant. The homemade food was absolutely delicious and the staff were both friendly and attentive. It was very good value for money and there is an option to bring your own wine for a small corkage fee. I'll definitely be returning for another delicious meal!

Great family run restaurant, not a huge selection of dishes but very tasty and reasonable price, has been going for 38 years

Terrible service with pre cooked old food and very high prices Ordered linguini with prawns and linguini bolognaise and chicken with white wine and mushroom sauce Minestrone soup came which was brown and veg in it were coloured an old brown colour telling me that it had been cooked some days ago when asked by waitress how the food was when she came to collect plates my wife commented that both linguini was very salty to which the waitress replied no one else has complained about it which we thought very unprofessional After that comment it was clear that any further feedback would be pointless My cream sauce looked split and def had no white wine in it and chicken tasted pre cooked and was a bit hard The salt potatoes were not cooked properly and def were not saute I think long ago the original owners new how to cook and tasted their food before serving but whomever is cooking now are not proper Italian chefs otherwise they would not serve what we had at the prices they charge we used to go to la lupa when it was around and a shame it has gone as food was much better from La Lupa than Italian Way I would avoid at all cost very expensive poor quality food

We love the Italian way, it’s our go to for a reasonably priced date night in Canton! We went here again on Saturday. It’s a family run restaurant where we are always greeted warmly - the service is great. The atmosphere is always wonderful with larger tables of families and friends celebrating special occasions or couples on dates! There is a good wine list, but you can also BYO wine or Prosecco (£7 corkage) and definitely order yourself a garlic bread! This isn’t a fine dining or fancy Italian - it’s homely food which is always fresh and tasty and keeps us coming back!

Visited on a Saturday, no table booked. Staff were accommodating of this even though they were fully booked. Service was to of an okay standard, but was occasionally slightly rude. Food was of a good standard. Soup was fairly runny and watery however the pasta was to of a good standard.

Absolutely terrible place and sad service. Came in for my birthday celebrations, the veg in the soup had a weird texture and we both ordered pasta, it felt like it’s been cooked way in advance, overcooked and with a weird texture too, ended up only eating a piece of garlic bread during the whole visit as that was the only thing that could go down my throat. The best thing we’ve been served were the caramel sweets included with the bill, definitely won’t be coming back again

We often come here for dinner and have never been disappointed, the staff are the sweetest and very accommodating, Julie and Emma especially make our experience there, part of the reason we keep coming back!! A wonderful place - lovely local feel, food very well balanced. A second ge elation Italian restaurant been here more than 30 years. Feels very authentic, plastic grapes fishing nets AND faux cherry blossom! Of particular note, king prawns with garlic and capers, excellent seasoning of pasta dishes, delicious amaretto and percer coffee - no burnt bitter taste. Lovely service and kitch live music that never intruded. Thoroughly recommend. Mum going back once a week….

The singer/guitarist - repertoire great.... voice a bit too quiet though, but this was due to previous complaints about being too loud. Service good, but food much too salty and some of our table's choices weren't available, so had to settle for second choices.

I honestly can't fault The Italian Way. It's one of the most friendly Italian restaurants around. The food was really good, the atmosphere was great, and the price was really reasonable. Definitely recommend!

We had a lovely time at the restaurant on Tuesday 13th June 2023. The food was delicious and we will definitely visit again! I had a beautiful pizza and family enjoyed wonderful pizza and pasta! The first time I saw ravioli on the menu and I’ll definitely try that next time I’m back home visiting family in Cardiff!!! ❤️

Remains the stand out place to eat in Cardiff. The food is excellent from starters to desserts. A very pleasant atmosphere with caring and friendly staff. The Italian Way remains the favourite of me and my family. It is the favourite place for my brother in law and myself for our catch up evenings out. You may be able to walk in but I advise booking.

Great buzzing little restaurant, good was excellent, service was perfect, very efficient, friendly and accommadating. Very good value for money.

The food is absolutely beautiful, best Italian food I've ever had. It's a shame their service is so bad. They need a couple of excellent waiters/waitresses in this place and it would be unstoppable. We went in tonight and only had 1 course and we were in there for nearly 2.5hrs. It was almost painful at the end waiting at the end to pay because everything takes so long. I asked for a couple of things and was either completely ignored as they had forgotten what I had asked for or they would come 20 minutes later with it. We were a table of 8 (4 adults, 1 child, 3 toddlers) and had a service charge of over £20 to add more salt to the wound when the service was shocking (not that they were horrible/mean or anything, just really unattentive and slow). I don't mind paying, we know about the service charge as been a few times before, even had cash in our pockets to tip as extra and didn't bother. Obviously still had to pay the £20 odd but didn't want to because the service was so bad.

I have enjoyed The Italian Way for 30 years, and have always enjoyed excellent Italian food in a very authentic atmosphere. The family has always had someone cooking, and the quality and standards have always remained excellent, along with the efficient and hugely friendly service. Long may it continue!!

Visited The Italian Way for dinner and it was incredible. The food was delicious and authentic (all three courses). I have been before and it is consistently excellent. Particularly enjoyed the homemade Baileys tiramisu. The service is also brilliant, all the staff are so friendly and make you feel so welcome and comfortable. The atmosphere is also really lovely, there was a nice buzz with everyone seeming to be enjoying themselves. A visit here is a must if in Cardiff.

small family run restaurant. staff made every effort to accommodate my wife and I as walk up diners on a six nations weekend. the food was excellent and full of flavour. cooked freshly, waitresses very helpful in choice of main dishes. all dishes reasonably priced. defo recommend this establishment.

I really must praise the Italian Way for the quality of the food, service, friendliness and ambience last Thursday, 14 December. I joined a Christmas meal on a very busy night for the restaurant and was so impressed by the professionalism of the restaurant. It must have been quite a feat for a small establishment. Well done and thank you.

What a restaurant, 6 of us in at 7 pm Saturday. Sardines x3, fishcakes x2 . All hot and tasty . Mains gnocchi mmmm, chicken in white wine sauce, spicy sausage tagliatelle. It's a lovely restaurant, buzzing. Would I come back. Yes please

Long overdue review for this brilliant restaurant, great menu, some great options to choose from and a specials menu. The green pesto gnocchi was amazing. Starters, mains and desert were all brilliant, you really can't go wrong. Great atmosphere and decor, with good service and low waiting times for dishes. This Italian restaurant definitely deserves a visit.

Lunch with Mum, Nan and my Aunties. We've wanted to eat in this restaurant for years! As we don't drive and live in Barry and Penarth, it's not always convenient to make the journey. After today, we'll make sure we return for some more beautiful flavours.

Gorgeous food and wine staff so lovely highly recommend

On Tuesday evening in early October you wouldn't expect a restaurant to be turning customers away but the Italian Way had to. Luckily we had booked a table in this warm, welcoming restaurant as it was packed. The food is tremendous, there is a standard menu and then a specials menu, we selected a range of dishes and everything arrived nicely presented and piping hot. The fritto misto was absolutely stunning whilst those who had the parma ham, either as a starter or on a pizza loved it. I normally wouldn't select pasta but the linguine with prawns and mushrooms cooked in chilli oil was wonderful. We plumped for the house wine and enjoyed both the red and white which are competitively priced there is also a nice range of Italian wines available and a fully stocked bar. The service was efficient and very friendly. I would highly recommend The Italian Way - but don't forget to book.

We visited as a family on a busy Saturday night after the rugby was on. It is a fantastic traditional family run Italian....the food was really good, great homemade pizzzas, lovely base with a wide choice of toppings, the pasta was perfectly cooked with great sauces. We were all really well looked after, the two children were made a fuss of , the staff were friendly, helpful and the service prompt.I have to particularly recomend the Tiramisu on the desserts - one of the best Ive had in a long time.Definatley will be going back when we are next in Cardiff

Lovely fresh food that you can see being prepared in the kitchen just at the back of the restaurant so you know it is being made to order. Atmosphere was authentically Italian and the staff were so friendly and attentive throughout the evening. We had a thoroughly enjoyable evening so thank you to all at The Italian Way! Al venir a Cardiff para mi 40 cumpleaños y un grupo de 12 quería reservar un lugar especial y después de buscar en Tripadvisor reservamos el camino italiano.Vale la pena el viaje extra en taxi desde el centro de la ciudad, Lena con quien reservé fue muy servicial y tuvimos el menú fijo y el pedido por adelantado.Todo mi grupo comentó lo buena que era la comida y el ambiente y el servicio en el restaurante fue genial.Pequeño, lugar especial y muy agradable para ir a una cadena. Recomiendo totalmente y gracias por ayudarme a hacer que mi 40 cumpleaños sea tan especial.

On entering staff were warm and friendly. Lots of people brought in their own wine - £3.50 corkage however the house red wine was very nice. Food was lovely, I changed the bruschetta to plain bread from garlic and changed the filling in my calzone, none of these were a problem for the kitchen, fillet of beef was well cooked and all fat removed. Staff were attentive and a warm atmosphere. The only small criticism is that they only do Bells whiskey, only drink Grouse or Jamesons, would have finished off with a whiskey coffee if they had any of the two. We will return and would recommend to everyone to visit

The food and service at this family run reataurant is second to none. Its the closest thing to Italy in the middle of Cardiff. Cannot recommend this restaurant enough

We each had different starters and mains and none of us were disappointed with our choices. Delicious food all round. We will definitely be returning!

Came across this cosy restaurant on a Monday eve. What a find! Cosy, VERY Italian. Welcoming, clearly popular. Terrific food..arancini for starters! Great pasta. Very quaffable red wine. A guitarist playing at front of house perfectly fits with the ambiance. Enjoyed a lovely meal and just stayed there, chilling. Made our evening. A new favourite place in Cardiff.

I recently came to this restaurant. It is extremely over priced. I had a lasagne which was tiny which didnt come with any side salad or anything. Had to pay extra for the garlic bread. I only had one small lemonade, less than half a pint, which was poured behind the bar from a 7up bottle and the total was £18. Safe to say I wont be returning due to the prices

No tan bueno como las visitas anteriores. Comidas de bistec servidas en pequeños platos rectangulares. Bistec, pequeña porción de papas salteadas, más champiñones y tomates pequeños. Salsa extra en un plato muy pequeño - menos del tamaño de ramekin. Parece estar atrayendo a un elemento de clientes que pasan mucho tiempo fuera del restaurante bebiendo y fumando. No vuelvo. Más bien gastar menos dinero en un pub.

Si simplemente tuve suerte, no lo sé, pero esta fue una de las mejores comidas italianas que he tenido fuera de Italia. No ordené nada lujoso. We went on a Tuesday evening so the restaurant wasn't busy which is quite nice because it was our anniversary. The service was very pleasant and efficient and the food was, simply, superb. Highly recommended.

Had a wonderful meal for two at The Italian Way, the focaccia to start was absolutely brilliant!!! So soft and moorish. The airing staff were lush and so accommodating. This certainly will not be our last visit! We cannot recommend this place highly enough!

4 of us dined here Sat evening. 4 different meals all great and a reasonable price. Great choice of dishes on the menu. Only one sad thing to report no lemon cello trifle. Still there was a lot of other deserts to choose from. Waiting staff very attentive without being in you face. Brilliant place to visit.

A few times in your life you have a meal that is so good. Starters sardines now they were good headless and tail less. Main prawn tagliatelle slightly hot, but not too much. Nice ambiance, quite busy, but not packed. Sat next to the kitchen, can see the food prepared hot , clean and well tasty. Would I come back. DEFINITELY

I’ve been to the Italian way numerous times with family and we always have a wonderful time and love the place. I came for the Valentines set menu with my boyfriend and it was absolutely perfect. Such a great deal, 3 courses for £25.95 and a glass of prosecco! The atmosphere was lovely and a very nice touch being given a rose by the staff at the end. The food was delicious!! We both had the carbonara risotto to start with poached egg, which we’ve been raving about since! My boyfriends steak was perfectly cooked and all topped off with some yummy chocolate bread pudding. Perfect evening and always recommend the Italian way to others!

We’ve walked passed many times but never visited, but one night myself and my husband popped in on the off chance they had a table, and we got the last one.

We arrived late close to 10 pm on a wet February evening and were greeted with a warm welcome. We had not made a reservation and given that it was very close to closing we were not hassled or speeded up in anyway. The food was hot plentiful and very tasty. The menu is typical Italian with a good variety of pastas, pizzas and other dishes. We will definitely be back!

There were 4 of us and the service, hospitality was second to none. Food was great and all of us enjoyed the food and drink. Will certainly visit again when in Cardiff

Another amazing night at the ‘Italian Way’. We couldn’t fault the service (there was 18 of us), we had pre ordered from the group set menu £19,95 + 10% tip which was amazing value for money. The food was 2nd to none. Thank you the Italian Way!

I had not been to the Italian Way for some years but I am very glad we booked for my birthday meal on Saturday night. We were a large party of 19. We were able to order from the usual menu. The waitresses were so helpful and lovely they deserve a special mention! The food was excellent and there was something for everyone on the menu. The fact you can bring your own wine is also a big plus as we were able to bring our favourite wines. We had a great evening and I would definitely recommend the Italian Way for big parties as it has a lovely friendly warm atmosphere. Many thanks!
