We ordered a takeaway of salt & Pepper chilli beef and this is what we got which cost £7.50 a portion. As you can see there were no sign of any beef. It tasted like cold scraps... the spare ribs tasted nice but there were still cold..... all in all the meal cost over £30 for basically what could of been described as cold scrapes, very disappointing. I wouldn't even feed my dogs them 🤮

Exremely slow service with staff having little or no interest both on food and drinks service. Food was ok but nothing to write home about, particularly slow when only a few people in..... Prices were well overpriced bearing in mind the service and the portions. Will not be bothering here again....

For a family that have frequently dined at the imperial this will be our last which is very sad as I have many fond memories of the restaurant and all the staff. Unfortunately the service has gone down hill to the point I had to ask for drinks, glasses to be cleared from the table . The starters came out wrong so half of our table had them and half didn’t them, with no compensation or real apology given. After sitting for 20 mins after we had finished our starters I had to ask staff for the table to be cleared and for cutlery and chopsticks to be replenished. Poor poor service for the price we paid. To top all this the carpet was sticky and all the family complained about their shoes sticking to the carpet, I didn’t even want to put my bag in the sticky floor! . The table cloths were cheap paper ones and also napkins. Also to have a child I. The restaurant and clearing tables isn’t good business practice! The food was okay but that’s about it, no more take aways or visits to this restaurant , very very disappointed!.

Where to start. The waitress took ages to take our order. The food took so long I wondered if they had gone to china to get it. The food came in dribs and drabs. There was a lot of confusion over how many people the mixed starter platter served, resulting in a bigger bill. The food wasnt even average. Chewy pork, and I'm sure all the sauces come out of jars. I will never go again. Save your money, pop over the road to sainsburys and buy their chinese meal. Tastes much better.

When we order king prawns in a light tempura batter, I don’t expect to get prawns with no batter at all. My wife is too kind to complain but I’m not. The order was very clear and you need to listen properly. 😡 Sort yourselves out……

Felt the set meals poor value very confusing ordering system also air con very cold staff didnt seem to know what was happening all the food arrived at different times

Absolute shambles for service we got told the set meal was for 2 and 10£ each and got charged 20£ each the lady in charge was terrible at explaining and got everything wrong it’s no wonder why we were the only ones in the restaurant the food was average and Luke warm nothing was brought correctly starters came mixed up could of let them of if it was remotely busy but we were the only ones there all in all very disappointing evening and we will never be going back again

Ordered a takeaway, not the first time we've used them. Had problems before but nothing major. Last night's wasn't major but enough for me to go elsewhere from now on. Ordered food at 18:20... 19:30 no food still. I ring up politely, 'is there much more of a wait? I appreciate you are busy' etc. 'its in the kitchen waiting to be picked up' 20:00 I ring up again. I will state this. Getting through on the phone is hard work in itself but... 20:00 no food. I ring again, 'it's gone out'... 20:30 no food. At this point I'm livid that they would mug me off. They've got my money. So after falling out with my family I get in the car and set off to tear someone a new one, in the restaurant... As I'm driving it shows up at 20:50. I go back home still foul.... I get home and the foods cold anyway and greasy! Nobody is hungry anymore and nobody wants the food. Night ruined... The only saving grace for them is I didn't make it into the restaurant because somebody would have had my mood taken out on them.... Liars! I will never use again!

First time trying this Chinese and overall not very impressed. Food was very bland & luke warm at most. Throughout the meal all we hear was “Leo, Leo, Leo, Leo” the lady behind counter couldn’t stop shouting the poor lads now. Credit to Leo though as he was very good! But for me & my partner we won’t be returning.

WARNING - The food here is….DELICIOUS!! What a hidden gem, sharing starter and pancakes were superb, and the mains? Out of this world! Friendly staff, authentic setting, great beers, great food, great times. Do yourself a favour, visit the Imperial!!

Went out for a family meal, there was 11 of us.... 5 of us went for the set meal which was 19.50 per person.... food was beautiful, but the value was absolutely appalling.... 1 plate of each which was on the set menu deal to share between 5 people.... even the rice was 1 portion of rice... so 5 plates of food cost us over 100 pounds. Was very disappointed. To top the food we had to hand back all our beer, as they had a bad keg, not the restaurants fault, but still just added to the disappointment.

I served in Honk Kong twice so I have a good idea what a decent Chinese is. This is poor, meal, service, price and decor. Over time this restaurant has really gone down hill. The decor is shabby, the old yellow air conditioning unit, must have been there since it opened, along with a pyrex dish the Mongolian beef was served on! ( which came with plum sauce obviously left over from the duck dishes) You would think with a booking system in place they would have enough staff on duty. Not so. Sat for 10 minutes, then a bowl of 6 Prawn cracker arrived, a waitress disappeared as fast without leaving a drinks list as its separate to the menu. ( A none disposable menu in use,handled by every one !) No Soy with starter, chop sticks NOT in a paper pouch hand delivered to table. ( Wonder who last had them in their mouth) The chicken in black bean sauce just tasted of salt. Sweet and sour pork very average. The beef in oyster sauce, well it just tasted of fish that was off. Never tasted anything like it. I have eaten marinated Duck webs and Sea Slugs and they tasted much better than this. The special fried rice was rice and a couple of pieces of egg, that was it! Service was slow between courses and waitress was not aware the swipe card had a £45 limit and wouldn't allow me to swipe. So my card was handled, presume she did the same with the previous card she handled. This virus will never go away. So my advice, give it a very wide berth. The only good news was Boris ( or all of us) paid £20 off the bill. But we will be paying for it, for a long long time. Stay Safe.

The choice of food is excellent, always hot and delicious which is no mean task when we are in a group of 20 or so people. Using the spinning tables lets us try bits of different foods.

Went for a family meal we were greeted with very friendly staff and Initially service was good, with drinks order being taken and delivered whilst looking through the menu. I’m veggie and whilst there wasn’t a mass of choices there were enough. Once we had got to our table we had starters and mains, the food really was lovely but the service was extremely slow, waiting for food and clearing up. I had finished my drink before I sat at the table to eat and was offered another but was waiting so long for that that everyone else had finished their drinks too, another member of staff passed and took another drinks order. I could understand slow service if the restaurant was busy but it wasn’t. The price was reasonable and I will go again in the hopes that we caught them on a bad night.

Since Wendy Chow shut her doors this is undoubtedly the best Chinese restaurant in town. We went for our works Christmas do and cleared the bar dry. Great service, tolerant staff and well worth having the set menu. There was loads of food and plenty for all guests and touched base with everything I’d want at a Chinese. Only slight criticism is there wasn’t enough seaweed for the eight on our table in the starter - there was barely enough for one person! Otherwise, there was loads of duck, and loads of everything else and it was delicious!

We meet up 3/4 times a year and use the imperial as our choice of food venue. I haven't reviewed it before but after last night's get together thought I would. The restaurant was very quiet when we arrived so the service was obviously prompt abd superb. Food was excellent and everyone enjoyed their dishes. Definitely will be returning in the future, haven't had a bad meal here yet.

I order from here all the time and the food is gorgeous! Today, I made an order for delivery and they delivered the wrong meal. I phoned to explain and they were brilliant, no arguing and a piping hot replacement (correct order) was at the door in no time at all, I didn't even have to microwave or reheat any of the sides. Very very good service and great food!

The customer service was okay, however £28 for 2 chow mien’s, a tiny pot of rice, chips and 2 cokes, the chow mien was burnt and some parts felt like I was chewing on coal

Ordered our food when the starter came it was a sharing platter for 2 we had asked for no wantons but extra chicken Satay the waitress said she would have to ask & came back saying yes that was ok then an elderly lady came & said there would be an extra charge which I tought was redicilous . When our starter came out we thought it was a sharing platter for 1 & asked the waitress but we were told it was for 2 very dissapointed also we had to ask for the ribs which were not on it . Our mains came out my beef was unedible & the noddles tasted & smelled of burnt which we could not eat .When I complained the lady of the house which doesn't no any thing about good old hosipitality or making you feel welcome did even come to our table to appoligise about the food being so bad & when we went to pay she had charged us for what we couldn't eat !! Which I challenged & she only took the main course off The food was rubbish & the lady was very unpleasant won't be back .

Having read comments etc I was apprehensive a out our meal here having not been for some yearsIt was a family members birthday surprise party so we attendedFor starters and mains overall it came to £42I had smoked chicken to start then chicken in black bean sauce and chips with the wife having smoked chicken vegetables in garlic sauce and chicken in black bean sauce and egg fried riceThe place was clean and presentable, bathrooms clean and well laid out and the lady serving us was friendly friendly and promptThe food tasted quite nice, portion sizes were not the biggest and the cuts of meat were not the highest quality so it loses a star for thatBut overall actually a nice meal and not out of range if it’s local competitors

Can honestly say this is the worst Chinese I’ve ever had a complete shower of Sh*te. Service was okay but the food is a complete farce it’s theft

Always come here when craving a chinese. Never had a bad meal and no doubt the best in town! Staff were lovely and the setting inside is very well set out.

I used to visit the Imperial regularly but haven't been for a while until family booked there for a birthday. We were in a fairly large group of around 20 people but we were still very well looked after. There is a mezzanine area in the restaurant which is where our party was seated but it was a nice area for a larger group.

We visited as a party of four. We were taken to a seating area and had to go to the bar to order drinks. They were very busy but had delivered the menus and could have taken a drinks order then. We ordered and were then taken to our table. The food was really tasty. They also took special orders that were not on the menu (salt and chilli king prawns). The mixed platter starter was delicious. Excellent prawn toast and spicy chicken satay stood out.

Been here a number of times and food not bad at all but this visit will be are last as myself and my wife simply could not get warm as the only heating was portable and being moved around the place,So very much spoilt the night for us, We did complain but got a hollow apology from Mathew the owner as he seemed to be smirking at the same time as his apology was given my wife stated

We have been here on a number of occasions birthdays meal with friends each time service and good were excellent.

Me and my partner always go here it's our favourite chinese,but it's quite expensive unless you visit when the all you can eat menu is available (Sunday to Thursday ) food is cooked fresh to order please try the smoked shredded chicken it's addictive. Friendly staff ,clean and tidy but a little dated.cant wait to return!

Not visited for many years, although a little bit tired in terms of decor the food was excellent so well worth the visit. The staff are also very friendly and polite.

Visited as a party of 3 for a quiet 50th birthday meal - greeted as soon as we entered and offered drinks and menus in the bar with prawn crackers - wide selection of dishes to select from. Once ordered not long before shown to our table - the food, mixed starters, duck and pancakes, then three different main courses with extras.

Llamado esta semana para una reunión de negocios a mediados de semana. El restaurante era tranquila, pero la comida era buena. La Reunión tomó algo de tiempo, pero en ningún momento sentimos como una molestia para el personal, a pesar de ser el último en salir.

Came here as a last minute change of plan, soon seated, unobtrusively watched while making menu choices so we weren't bothered but not kept waiting. Food excellent. Service quick and polite. They had a pianist that night who was entertaining.

I shared a most delicious meal with a group of friends. From the moment we entered the restaurant we were felt welcome and were looked after. All staff were attentive and jolly while at the same time maintaining professionalism and etiquette. Highly recommended

Only been once as it is quite expensive for a Chinese restaurant. Worth the money though as the food is first rate. Staff are very pleasant and nothing is too much trouble.

Popped in on chance as our first choice was full. We have been here before and as previously the food was excellent. We had Yuk sung to start and it didn't disappoint, crispy lettuce and delicious plum sauce to accompany the minced pork and veg. Kung PO chicken and Sizzling Steak for main and cleared the plates. The staff, although pushed with two big parties, were timely and very helpful. Very pleased we dropped in.

Nice atmosphere. Nice staff. Great food. Not the cheapest Chinese locally but definitely the best for an 'eat-in' experience.

Booked for a meal in December a table for two. It was initially very quiet and we ordered and had a lovely meal. It really was nice food. But it seemed as the restaurant got busier we were forgotten. I will add it was apparently the busiest Friday of the year, but no one asked us if we wanted a dessert or a cup of coffee. I requested the bill and that was duly taken from the table. Very disappointed in the after dinner service. Maybe we should have gone with a large group and spent more money.

My partner and I first visited this restaurant last year while staying at the Scunthorpe Premier inn (rather than eating at the very below par Anchor Beefeater which is next to it) as this it was recommended by the reception staff. We thoroughly enjoyed it the first time so as we were in the area we came back. What a delight. I would say that it was exactly as the first time, EXCELLENT. Greeted by a polite, friendly lady who showed us to the pre dinner area for drinks etc and then on to the restaurant part when the food was ready. The food, the service and the general ambiance is spot on. Couldn't ask for better.Will we be back? Without a doubt.

Eaten here a few times but not for a little while do to holidays etc,Met the Chef during are meal and expressed how good the food was.Also this was a very relaxing place to eat with staff there when we needed them,Look forward to going again very soon

Having moved away I hadn't visited Imperial for a few years so I decided to have an anniversary meal with my wife here and although the decor still looks as it did there is a lovely authentic feel to this restaurant.We had a set meal for 2 and the waitress was happy for us to change one of the courses that we wasn't keen on. If fact the waitress couldn't do enough for us, she was very helpful. Would recommend and will gladly go back again.

They dont seem to be able to handle a delivery service. Waited nearly 2 hours after being told it would take 40 mins. After about an hour i called to be told it was nearly there before i even gave any details of who i was. When food finally arrived all four of us ended up leaving most of it despite being starving as the food was so stodgy. Such a shame as it use to be scunnys best Chinese and as a delivey service they are still higher priced but sadly no longer higher quality

What an enjoyable experience an evening in the Imperial really is.From the warm greeting on entry through to the efficient and very attentive staff to the wonderful food on offer ,all served in lovely surroundings.O.K. its not the cheapest restaurant but quality rarely is .

Visited with family for a get together. Still the same décor as years ago, but still has a good ambience about it. Staff very good, drinks of a good standard, & nice & relaxing. The food was of a very high standard, not the biggest of portions but the quality is the key thing. We all thoroughly enjoyed our visit & nothing was left or wasted. Think this is a fair score, just slightly short of being excellent. We had an enjoyable meal & would recommend

My Girlie and I decided to have a meal out in Scunthorpe, a Chinese for a change, and came upon the Imperial Cantonese. (Upon reflection... not the best plan) Anyway ... Nice surroundings .. Nice Staff .. Very average food ... No specials .. Nothing sparkling .. Not going again.Only as good as an average Take Away....Costs lots more tho !!!

Excellent as alwaysBeen here many many times over the years this week being the latest the food is always great.Staffs are polite and friendly without over the top.Its value for money as is the quality.The place its self is looking bit dated but don’t be at all put off the food more than makes up for that.Give it a try you will go back as have many of my friends ive introduced

We were actually going to a concert in Scunthorpe & had planned to eat at another restaurant, but upon arrival it was closed due to family problems...We did not want to be too far away from the concert venue, so on a cold damp evening we wandered into the Imperial Cantonese Restaurant.....not having any real expectations....just wanting some hot tasty food....Upon entering we were warmly greeted by an excellent member of staff who took us to a well furnished waiting area, took our drinks order & then our food order. Within 10 minutes we were then taken to a lovely clean dining area & our food arrived promptly. The same waitress was very attentive during our time there....in fact possibly the best customer service I have experienced.Our meals were hot & tasty....although not cheap....but worth what we paid

Very, very unimpressed. Every Chinese menu everywhere is exactly the same!! And this is no different. The place has no atmosphere and, although the staff tried hard, they couldn't bring it to life in any way that would ever want me to go back. Being truthful, the cost for what we ate made my eyes water!! The food was ok, nothing more and we would have got the same deal I'm sure had we have ordered take out - and at much less cost. If this really is Scunthorpe's best offering, then I'll stick to take away fish and chips in future!!

I visited here with friends during the Christmas period I had booked a table for us all. As soon as I arrived I'm pleased I had booked the place was very busy, unfortunately we were not greeted by the staff we made our way to the bar and seating area to get a drink the bar was busy and only one member of staff so a good 15 minutes to wait before we were served once drinks were ordered we took a seat before another 15/20 minutes before we were shown to our table we ordered quickly as luckily there were menus there. About an hours wait for the food and only 2 waitresses on the whole floor. The food was good we only had a main and it was tasty just a shame about the wait the place seemed a little unorganised.

We came for my boyfriend's birthday, as we did last year, and there's a reason we returned. From the moment we walked in, the service was brilliant. Drinks were brought over to us along with the nicest prawn crackers I've ever tasted! Seriously, I didn't think prawn crackers could be so nice! Ample time allowed to order as we can ever make our minds up! They were very patient!The time between the order being taken and the starter coming out was great. The vegetable tempura was lovely, although I think it should be served with chilli sauce rather than sweet and sour, but that's just personal preference. My boyfriend had beef in oyster sauce which I just can't seem to replicate at home, and the seafood and tofu hotpot, while one of the more pricey dishes, is definitely worth the cost! Big bowl of broth brimming with tofu and perfectly cooked seafood (king prawn, squid, mussels, scallop) and rice noodles...a new favourite. As it was a special occasion, we were treated to complimentary glasses of champagne, which was a really lovely gesture. It wasn't a busy night, being in the middle of the week, but the atmosphere was very pleasant, no fault to be found. The service was one of the most attentive I've experienced with thoughtful finishing touches, and the food is just delicious. We'll probably go back again for my boyfriend's birthday bext year and make it into a tradition.

I have reviewed this restaurant before but the meal was so good last night that I had to mention it again! The mixed starters of spare ribs, spring rolls, sesame toast, satay chicken, crispy won tons and crispy 'seaweed' was prepared perfectly, and the extra salt and pepper prawns were excellent. The fish in chicken and prawn sauce as a main course was described by the diners as 'the best ever'. The quarter duck with pancakes was succulent and the king prawn curry was very tasty. The service was very attentive. All in all a successful evening out.

There is one palce to celebrate the Chinese New Year in style - HERE!! Hosts attention to detail is excellent with authentic dragon dances and drums,,,, food is freshly made and offers an array of luxury dishes...A brilliant night - restuarant decorated tastefully and not tacky and staff are welcoming and attentative.Have eaten here on several occasions and are always very pleased with the qukaity of the food, it may be a little pricey, it is certainly not the cheapest chinese but it is one of the best in town!! Try the fish, the curries and the special fried rice they will not disappoint!!

After not going to the imperial for a while, me and my wife decided to go back, as last time we went the owners Edith and Matthew took very good care of us. Was disappointed to find they were on holiday, but the staff were just as helpful and accommodating. There was a large party at the time, so a lively atmosphere (for 6.30!), but this didn't extend to any loss of service or us taking the back seat in our experience. The food was lovely, I had an Aubergine dish in hot bean sauce (I actually think it might be called that too), and my wife had a tofu and mushroom dish, both were lovely.An excellent visit. I only gave 4 stars for the atmosphere as there was a customer here at the same time who was going out of his way to be rude to the staff, with the party also complaining. But you can't please everyone! Will be returning on Saturday with the in-laws before we go away as our customary pre-holiday meal.Again, we had and excellent meal and time!

Very poor, poor ingredients, poor preparation, poor cooking, poor explanation. Just not good enough even by Scunthorpe standards. Better available all over Scunthorpe at a much lower price

Lovely decor and table settings, with beautiful table decorations. Large choice on menu including set banquets and a la carte. Wide range of food to suit all tastes. The chef must be one if the finest in the region. Serving staff and reception very warm and welcoming, very efficient.

17 of us for a retirement party ate here on Wednesday night. Not been for a good few years, but it was really good.Left to have a drink in the bar as we gathered and the prawn crackers kept appearing as we ate them, as more guests arrived the staff kept pulling up more chairs for us. The order was taken and offers of changing the dishes for individual tastes were no problems. Once at the table the food soon started to arrive, must say they even knew roughly where we sat and what we ordered - good attention to detail. The food was good, tasty, though just perhaps a tad cool, could have been done with being hotter. But hot dishes were served.We were the only table in so we were able to entertain ourselves due to numbers, but did lack a little atmosphere - guess it would have been better on a busier night.Certainly would return and would recommend. The staff really were outstanding and helpful.

Booked for a birthday celebration. Everything was excellent..all courses, the staff, and their attentiveness. We all agreed that we would visit again when we get together next month!!

We called on the way home from Sheffield , we ordered the banquet meal for two, it was fantastic, all the meals tasty and fresh , little details like warm bowls and plates. staff very welcoming and reasonably priced

Recently visited this place a few times for takeaways and each time, thinking it will be better only to be even worse. The food quality has gone down hill to the point of feeling very ill after eating. Plus the cost for three mains two chips one rice and 4 ribs was £36. Shall not be going back as the local Chinese in the village, that is half the price, is far better quality .

A meal for two pre a local show. It was recommended by some local friends. The prawn crackers were very hard and lumpy and the starter platter not hot enough. The side dishes of sauce were very small portions. The crispy duck was ok but the number of pancakes [a lot] did not match the small duck. The main courses were better in terms of temperature but the rice tasted odd. Price wise with drinks, it came in at just under £50. I have eaten far better and I don't think we will be returning. A shame.

This is one of my favourite restaurants. There is a good menu and the standard of the restsurant and the food is very high. Staff have always been very helpful. Price are a little on the high side £9 ish for a main dish but the service is excellent. I would definately return.

My Company,s Christmas lunch has been held here for more than 10 years. Excellent food. Polite, friendly and efficient service.

A fantastic place to eat and a great atmosphere. Later in the evening the dance floor comes to life within the restaurant and everyone has a good old dance.

Held a surprise party at the restaurant and the staff were excellent. They couldn't be more helpful and catered to everyone's needs without any fuss. The food was very tasty and excellent value for money for a large party with plenty to go around. Would definately use again for a large group.

The food was great, walking into the restaurant was lovely the decoration is fabulous.They have a very good menu & the food was very fresh. I am quite fussy but they catered for all my needs & the service was exellent. We all really enjoyed it, it was a lovely evening.Highly recommended, try the set menu it was well worth it

We have been to the restaurant many times over the years and often have had take aways but recently the standard of food has fallen and it doesn't taste as good. They really need to get back to there old menu which was always fresh and lovely

I love this restaurant. From the outside the street doesn't look like much, but inside the restaurant the atmosphere is good, the food excellent (and portions large) and service friendly and efficient. I particularly like the set meals and starters - including the seaweed. You won't be disappointed eating here.

Just registered here and thought i'd share my recent visit to the imperial.Warm friendly atmosphere with a well stocked bar (a must for any meal for me!!)We had yuk sung to start and it was gorgeous, juicy with a good blend of flavours.Duck for middle course to satisfy the wife. And it was amazing.For mains we had sizzling satay king prawns (the best satay sauce ive ever tasted), beef and black bean and a special chow mein to share. Excellent food!The chef/owner even found the time to come to our table and talk to us to see how our night was going.Like I said before, waem and friendly and excellent food. I visited The Imperial Cantonese Restaurant in years ago with my friends but mainly with my parents. Since then we moved away from the area. A wedding invitation brought me back to Scun-thrope. This time i went there with my wife and children. The place had been updated and still retained the traditional Chinese theme. That did not disappoint, thankfully. My children ordered their favourite prawn toasts and deep fried won ton and we had the aromatic duck with pancakes. Now I hate Luke warm pancakes, but these were steaming!! Soft and beautiful! Main course was great as we had lobsters with ginger and spring onions - thank you for my wife whom she made an advance request! Fillet steak in Peking sauce was just beautiful...so tender. The other dishes were equally great, so my wife and children told me... I was more interested in the lobster and the steak.Service was excellent and always greeted with a warm friendly smile. My children were fussy with their choices of ice cream that the manageress had to make a special for them. Now where would you get a service like that?All in all, a good night out and more importantly it brought back some good memories.
