This restaurant has the most wonderful setting with tables placed against the windows overlooking the beach, sea and harbour traffic to entertain. The staff were efficient and prices reasonable. I chose a meal that I hoped was a healthier option, Asian noodles with king prawns, but unfortunately it was not stir fried and the prawns were deep fried in batter. The fish and chips were good but not a restaurant for anyone watching their waistline- no salads or much in the way of vegetable for sides or fruit deserts.

Good food, unusual dishes, particularly recommend the smoked haddock, ate there again the next day. Far better than the restaurants at the Dover Marina Best Western where my wife and I stayed for three nights from 10 December 2021.

We’ve just enjoyed another delicious lunch here! We had pork steak, fish and chips and roast beef - all thoroughly enjoyed. Followed by two tarte tatins and a bread and butter pudding with a birthday candle in it, which was a really lovely touch - thank you! The service and staff are always wonderful which makes every meal special! Looking forward to our next visit!

The first impression is that we are in a high fine dinning restaurant, with the furniture and the set up, together with the price of the dishes "matching". Although the reality wasn't that. The service was above average, with the waiter and waitresses always very polite and very professional. We had 2 Chicken Caesar Salads and 2 portion of chips... In the salads were missing one of the ingredients, that came after we asked for it. The food was average. We were expecting a bit more taking in consideration the place. In terms of atmosphere, it was a bit "cold", a bit dark (although at some point the light got brighter), but was missing something... With such a good location and nice view, the restaurant should be a bit more busy, even if we are in November, and middle of the week.I would give another chance if I would go back to Dover.

I reviewed this restaurant a while ago when it was under the rather confusing name Hythe Bay. It was excellent then and continues to be. If you are visiting Dover then don't miss this. Great location with panoramic views over the harbour. Outside terrace and modern interior. The fish and chips is priced at £16.95 and includes chips and mushy peas.A calamari starter is £8.95.These are not cheap prices but they are good value for the fresh cooked food.

This is a very high quality restaurant that is well worth a dedicated trip to visit. It's a real asset to the Dover Seafront area, and a credit to the staff and management. We had an excellent lunch on the restaurant's terrace, with magnificent views of the harbour and the castle. The food and service were both first-rate -- more than comparable with high-profile seafood restaurants we have visited in Cornwall and London. The staff could not have been more helpful to accommodate particular requests we made, and we will certainly return. Very highly recommended!

Had a lovely meal at this restaurant last night (Sat 30th October). Mum & I had the Mackerel Pate and Crab Salad for starters which was lovely but OMG the mains were to die for. Mum had the Prawn noodles which absolutely huge and juicy, the batter was light and crispy. I had the fish and chips which was a plentiful sized portion and the both Cod and the batter were cooked to perfection. Would definitely come here again.

Our starters of prawn cocktail and cauliflower soup were both tasty. We chose lamb and halibut main courses. The halibut was delicious but I think it could have been accompanied by a few more vegetables and was ever so slightly over cooked. The lamb rump dish was also attractively presented, however a third of it was tough and sinewy.Overall we did enjoy the ambiance and the harbour setting and the service was discreet and professional.

Modern contemporary sea front restaurant. Very quiet mid week night but we were not disappointed with either the food or the service. We had window seats which would have given us a fantastic view of the harbour if it had been daylight. However, it did give us a wonderfully twinkling view instead and a grandstand view of the lightening storm as it arrived. We shared a starter of moules mariniere, clean, hot and absolutely delicious and the juices mopped up with fresh bread. Move to mains which was halibut and seasonal vegetables. The skin on the halibut was seared to crispy perfection and the flesh perfectly cooked. The vegetables and the jus were lovely with a nice bit to the heritage carrots. I finished with a creme brûlée - firm favourite of mine and this one was huge served with fresh fruit and a dusting of icing sugar. Beautiful. Will absolutely got back given the chance. If you get the opportunity to go, then go you’ll not regret it. Finally the two young ladies serving us were delightful and very professional.

For such a nice looking restaurant, on the beach with sea views, it should be bustling at lunch time, but wasn't. Not sure why. I had whitebait which was very good. My husband had chowder which was very poor, just mediocre shellfish in a tasteless thin white soup when it should have been heavily flavoured, somewhat thicker and with a rich taste of fish. The fish and chips were excellent, beautifully crispy batter and well done chips. My husband had sole, probably one of the smallest we had seen served in a restaurant. Sadly, again lacking a good strong flavour and very bland. This restaurant should be hitting a better mark, more people, more bustle. Perhaps a few cheaper dishes should be available, more publicity about special offers. Pretty up the verandah with some plants, and please! Either turn off the atrocious muzak or get something that doesn't grate - appalling choice with groans and screeching which just annoys. Checking back we first visited seven years ago, shame it might not be for another seven.

We came in after our boat trip looking for a snack not realising that this is full restaurant rather than a cafe.Actually so glad we went in, rather than a snack we had a full lunch and it was absolutely first class. The Camembert was fabulous, the batter on the fish was perfect and the chips were crispy and not greasy. My creme brûlée was enormous!! If I had known I would have forced my husband to share with me, and it was so delicious I had to eat it all whilst he manfully disposed of his sticky toffee pudding. We had no booking and yet were accommodated with a smile.Just lovely:)

We went to Dover Patrol recently for my husband's birthday and initially there was a mix up with our booking. A private function was taking place. Despite this the young man found us a table and gave us a bottle of wine to drink whilst we were waiting. We had a lovely meal and a great evening. The staff couldn't have been more helpful even bringing my husband a candle in ice-cream. The young man came to check we were okay - he is a credit to Dover Patrol, we will definitely be back.

Firstly the restaurant is in an excellent location. The views over the sea are great. Our orders were taken quickly but it took nearly 20 minutes to get it. We ordered the hake and halibut dishes. These were really nice but the portion size were small so was not really filling. However we shared a sticky toffee pudding desert with ice cream and that was quite substantial so we left feeling fairly full. The prices are top end around £20 for the mains and £7.20 for desert which was OK for the size. Wine is around £22 If you go here when you are famished and have the fish dishes just be prepared not to be full. You will need a starter and a desert.

it took 3 request to get 1 glass of wine. Ordered a starter of calamari to share with my partner and artisan bread as a side. Calamari came with a bowl of soup, explained what I had asked for. The waiter returned with makerel pate and bread so I expl ained I only wanted the bread. Main courses came as requested, after 40min wait during which time 4 people were seated , ordered their food, got it and ate it before ours arrived. On another note the chairs are very comfortable but heavy to move and make an excessive amount of noise as was the case when 8 people were seated immediately behind us, I thought WW3 was starting. Overall the food was very good but probably won't return.

Nice place, great view of the harbour and not too crowded inside.Serving team were friendly, helpful and the food arrived quite quickly.Unfortunately this is where the good elements end. The starter of calamari was ok although a little strange with batter more akin to fish and chips, quite heavy and a little puffy... The main courses were quite terrible however with my seafood medley being more like some sort of soup with lumps of undercooked skin on fish; overall it was very bland, almost tasteless, with almost all of the fish turning to mush attached to bits of skin (and not crispy skin!); the cooked in potato was bland in the extreme and effectively just plain boiled potato. Overall definitely not what the menu described and not worth the £18... especially as I had hardly anything and needed a meal when I got home. My wife's prawn noodle salad was more prawns in batter with noodles... didn't look like it had been cooked by a chef and definitely not worth the £17 it cost.Overall then £54 for food I would've thrown in the bin had I been at home.I didn't complain at the time as didn't have it in me... writing this as a warning to others.... if you're hungry go buy a sandwich in the local supermarket, it'll taste better!

We arrived at 7pm, and three of us had a starter and a meal. The starters were fine, and were good. One person had fish and chips (all hot and very good) but two of us had different fish which were both hot (fish was not hot) The waiter took 2 meals away, and returned a new plate of food for each of us about 10 minutes later. My plate of food was pan fried hake, on vegetables with small pan fried potatoes, and some fresh vegetables. My potatoes were hot but the fish was warm (it would have been far better if it was hot), my friend had her fish but it was not hot .... so we just eat our food, declined any puddings and left. Pity as the food is good but fish is what we want to be hotter - such a shame.

On a day trip from London to hike white Cliffs of Dover. After a quick search we've chosen this place for our late lunch. We didn't have a booking but were given a lovely table with a view of a harbour. It was a bit too windy for al fresco dining which was also available. Before sitting down for our meal inside, we've had a cheeky pint of Whitstable brew in a pop up bar outside the restaurant. The barman was very nice and chatty, making everybody welcomed and comfortable. The staff in the restaurant was also very friendly, accommodating and efficient. We chose oysters, squid, crab salad and fish and chips. While fish and chips were one of the best I've ever had the starters were only ok.Squid was definitely overcooked and had way too much coating for my liking. Crab salad, decent size but bland and with too little 'green' to really call it a salad.Oysters were fresh and very tasty but had not been opened properly, with lots of chiped shells in the meat. All in all very pleasnt meal as the amazing fish and chips compensated for slight let down of the starters. To sum up, I would definitely recommend the place: very friendly staff, fresh produce and reasonable prices makes it perfect for unplanned lunch.

Tried this as staying with family nearby for a birthday meal and I really wanted to be able to rave about it as it’s in a lovely setting on the harbour with so much access to fresh fish. The service was good and we can’t fault the staff, but the food was average at best and let the experience down. I chose the lobster which was a small portion, but with a huge salad and a small pot of fries. There was not a great deal of lobster meat and was there was was chewy with little flavour. I was in fact still hungry after our meal! My partner had the pork belly which he said was ok but nothing special. We have eaten at similarly priced Kent/Sussex eateries and this place is in a great spot and could be a real “go-to” destination restaurant like Rocksalt, the Curlew or the Wild Mushroom for instance. I know they haven’t been re-branded/open for long and current times are challenging so I hope our disappointing experience was a one off but even so, we’re not currently rushing to return.

Came here last night for dinner and have to say it was some of the worst food I've ever tasted and I'm not a fussy eater at all. I had the burger and I got to say it was the probly the worst burger I've ever had in my life. Tasted cooked from frozen shocking overcooked chewy not even edible. It was just embarrassing as had to send it back. Only to just get another one less cooked. Its just terrible cheap meat somebody would buy if they were doing the cheapest possible bbq from frozen. My brother had the duck with veg which comes with no potatoes or chips just duck and veg. Duck was hard. Chewy. Carrots undercooked. He had to send his back and didn't choose another dish so we both had no dinner. Bearing in mind the duck was either £19 or £22 it's a joke. Don't get me wrong the scenery here is lovely but that's about it. My mums pork was £20 aswell and wasn't very nice either. Pork was pink and chewy carrots also hard and undercooked. The only dish that I could recommend was the fish and chips which was nice as had to finish off someone's leftovers as had no dinner. Kids pasta was also nice which had a hair in it. I had to finish. Which when confronted about they said it was from the mushrooms. Lies. Prawns not much better just dipped in same batter as fish. Tasteless. Overall shocking and very disappointed as was a birthday celebration. At least they came out with cake with candle I asked for.Not the waiters fault or the chefs I suppose really you can only cook with what's given to you. But still manages to overcook it.And still they don't take anything off the bill only the dishes sent back.Honestly if you have the money then go to rocksalt in Folkestone not here as this is a waste of money big time. Food is better in weatherspoons. Or would be nice for just drinks. That's it.

We were really glad to find that the restaurant had reopened, albeit under a different name. We made a reservation for a table on the balcony. We arrived with face masks and were really surprised that with the exception of a couple of members of staff, no one else was wearing one.We were shown to our table, our order was taken in good time and our first course arrived quickly. The menu was markedly reduced, including the wine menu and we thought our starter was a little pricey for what it was (£10 for one tempura soft-shell crab, but it was delicious). We ordered halibut for our main course and that was very good and up to standard from when we had visited before. I think it’s early days for the restaurant and I really hope it’s able to thrive but the one thing that gladdened me was that when we were eating, a party of diners sat in the main restaurant, came out on to the balcony and got within a metre of where we were sat. Within minutes the restaurant manager (I believe) came out and politely asked them to move away which they did. It didn’t feel as relaxed as it used to (but these are strange times indeed) and there was no mackerel pâté or warm bread rolls as served previously, but it felt safe because of the vigilance of the staff. And right now, I know which I would rather have. Good luck to the restaurant and staff. I’ll keep everything crossed for you.

I nearly cancelled my booking here after reading negative reviews about the change in ownership affecting quality here. I’m so pleased I didn’t. The location is great, with the beach and seascape to watch as you order and wait for food. The menu and food are excellent. They cater brilliantly for gluten free food (I am a coeliac). Our waiters were fabulous and literally jogging about to make sure everyone was kept happy - we noted the name of the key waiter for us (Oscan) who really couldn’t have worked harder or been nicer. We aren’t easy to please, but the whole family loved the food and meal. We had a great evening. I have no idea if the negative reviewers have axes to grind. But our experience was very, very positive, with adults, a teenager and older child all really happy. We we will be back when here again. Lastly, our view was that they had a really robust approach to COVID. Staff wore masks. Our tables were well separated. Gel was freely available. A one way system was in place. Much more stringent here than elsewhere.

Sooo..... went for lunch here on Sunday 9th. We booked a table for 4 @ 1pm. & was kindly asked by Alison if we would like to sit outside on the veranda as it was such a lovely day. The staff here are great. Very polite & nothing seemed too much trouble. The food. Well what can I say......The food was ABSOLUTELY AMAZING. We cannot fault a thing. Even the chef was popping to tables to see if there food was ok. I cannot recommend this restaurant enough. So much so that me & one of the party have already booked to go back this Sunday. I can’t wait.Thanx to u all at Hythe Bay

In Dover for a Day-trip from France - a first time and a novelty already. After a quick search for suitable lunch spots on a wet, miserable Wednesday in March, i booked for 2 covers here. Easy parking added to the positive first impressions as did the entrance and welcome in the restaurant, a little before 1 o'clock. The sun was out and we were shown to a window table overlooking the beach and harbour. We were pleased with the menu choice and the daily choices and chose whitebait, scallops under a Parmesan potato whip, then the recommended Fish & Chips, followed by a pudding each.Overall the food was hot, well presented and served promptly by charming staff. I must also mention the pleasure of finding a properly folded linen napkin; a rarity these days! The meal arrangement we chose included a bottle of House white, a light, very drinkable Spanish Sauvignon blanc. I found the choice of wines quite extensive but also rather expensive. A pleasant meal experience greatly adding to an enjoyable day-trip from Normandy. Thanks

The Restaurant is bright light and has a FABULOUS view. The Staff are welcoming and don’t rush you to leave. The food is hot, plenty of choice (for ALL tastes) and large portions BUT no vegetables unless you order them separately. If you want to treat yourself to a coffee or tea in the afternoon this is the place to go.The Staff are at hand if you need to rearrange seating for people in wheelchairs or with other disabilities plus the wonderfully clean facilities are on the same floor. My only criticism was that it was quite pricey. In the summer and Christmas it’s a good idea to book in advance, I should think !

We enjoyed our dinner as well as the service from Mike and Shaun tonight. The food was beautifully cooked and presented and we were well looked after by the staff. I definitely recommend this spot when visiting Dover. We had the smoked haddock and pan seared halibut. Both were very fresh and tasted great.

The service and staff were excellent but the food was not. My dressed crab mains had come straight out of the fridge, the egg and crab claw were partially desiccated. Everything was way too close. They are trying to save money by not discarding uneaten fish at the end of serviceThe mackerel pate was good, but the fish bone that stuck into my gum was not. Hubby’s meal was OK but nothing special. Perhaps we just visited on a very off day. But there is no way we will return.

We live locally in Dover and decided to go here for a birthday lunch for a member of the family. We had a one year old child with us - high chairs are available. The ambiance is very pleasant with beautiful views across Dover Harbour. The decor is light, clean and airy. After settling into our seats we were given complimentary warm rolls, butter and a very tasty pate. The food is of a very high standard - I had the moules marinier and could not fault them in any way - they were steaming hot and delicious. They would have graced the table nicely in a restaurant in Brussels. My grandson had the home made burger and chips which was nicely garnished. I pinched a couple of chips off his plate and I can honestly say they are the best I have every tasted - I am not exaggerating! The service was professional and the young waitress clearly knew her job very well and enjoyed doing it. Considering the quality of the food and its excellent presentation the prices are very reasonable. Whether you are a local or passing through and want a good meal this is the place to go. On the way out we passed a sign advertising take away fish and chips - I think I will give it a try.

We needed lunch after a nasty experience at Wheelers just a short walk away. We were welcomed and shown to a smashing table overlooking the sea. The wine was delicious and the free mini starter of mackerel pate was outstanding. I was given a gluten free roll which was great so that I could eat the pate. The main courses were really fantastic and came very quickly and the staff were very friendly. I wish we had visited before. We shall return soon.

We were really pleased to visit Hythe Bay at the recommendation of our hotel. It was a lovely restaurant with a very appreciated lift to get us up to restaurant level. It had beautiful holiday decorations and a very nice menu. We were disappointed that the one thing we particularly wanted to try in Dover, which was Dover Sole, was not available that day, so we settled on other dishes, and they were both delicious. We had great service and a totally enjoyable experience, and we'd love to return to Hythe Bay on another visit.

Went there last Saturday for a Christmas treat. Menu looked good the week before. Arrived just after 7.20 but place was pretty quiet which was odd the weekend before Christmas. My wife ordered Coquelles saint Jacque for a starter but the Piped potatoes on top were dry and two scallops at £11 seemed a bit steep. I ordered the fish pie for main course which at £18+ should really have been something. Sadly there was a massive amount of potato on top covering a small amount of fish. This was so dry and devoid of sauce. Fair to say that the young helpful waitress took that off the bill. I would add that my wife had salmon which was very nice. All in all a pretty uneventful, lack of atmosphere evening.

During our short get away to Dover my partner and I visited this restaurant for both lunch and dinner. It is clearly a very well run restaurant. It was nice that staff instantly recognised us the next day when we showed up for lunch. The food on both days was amazing. Food came out quick, hot, tasty and very well presented. The service was very slick and smooth at all times. The restaurant has views to the sea so if you reserve it in advance you can get a window table. It must be even better in the summer when you can sit outside. Even though we had champagne, cocktails and 3 course meal it didn't break the bank (compared to London prices). Would absolutely recommend and visit again

There aren't many options for a water-view meal in Dover, so here's your chance! The location along the Dover waterfront promenade provides a broad view of the harbor. The moored cruise ships and the many ferries coming and going are fun to see. The decor is modern. An outdoor terrace is available on a good weather day. Service may seem a bit pompous, but the menu is varied and the food is good. The best part here is the view.

The area with tables has a beautiful view of the harbor, but needs a little updating. The food is fantastic after you finish taking all the shells and bones out of the seafood. The breaded fish had bones... the seafood pasta needed 15 minutes to shell all the prawns before eating. Taste was spot on after this... The service as spotty as we needed to ask for the bill 3 times before it was delivered to us.

Came here for our date night and so glad we did. The view was beautiful and the atmosphere was lovely. We had starters I had the smoked fish board and partner had calamari both were great really enjoyed it. The only issue I had was they run out of muscles and sea bass which is what I really fancied, can't be helped. Anyway the seafood linguine and it was beautiful so creamy and my partner had the last muscles which he said was the best he has had. It was great having the complimentary bread as we could have a dunk in the sauce. It would of been nice to have 10 minutes between courses and it was straight after the starter and I've been to places where you get strawberries in the pink gin and a slice but that's just me being fussy, it's a nice touch. Anyway the view, the staff and the food was amazing! Can't wait to go back

It looks great but the taste was very underwhelming. Super bland and lacked any preparation so much so that it was hard to eat. The staff wanted to be helpful but came across as unprofessional. When we raise the state of the food we were told “well it’s not for everyone” which just left us disappointed with the meal, it’s pricy for the area and we expected more.

We've visited the first of the three Hythe Bay Seafood restaurants in Hythe Bay a number of times and were back again from Canada for lunch in August for our 25th anniversary. We love the location and the great menu. So consistently good. We'd also heard about their new Dover location and just had to try it out. First impressions: what a great location! Right on the water. Look left and see Dover castle and follow the coastline and you'll see the famous white cliffs. The Esplanade and harbour area has been totally upgraded which makes the restaurant very accessible. We found easy street parking right outside the restaurant. The menu is identical to the Hythe Bay location and the qualify was comparable. We'll be back.
