I came with family on Saturday who recommended and already looking forward to booking my next visit. Everyone was really friendly, meal and service was brilliant. Great range on the menu and the bar

We visited this pub whilst staying in Wissett, around a 10 min drive and were not disappointed! The table we had was large & plenty of room for the 4 of us and dog. Lovely fireplace with seating around. The food - well, such generous portions and cooked very well. My boyfriends favourite was the pork steak, cooked to perfection. Drinks fairly priced and plenty to choose from. It’s what we call, a ‘proper country pub’. Should we return to the area we would 100% visit again!

My wife and I had the 2course Xmas lunch today the food was absolutely awesome and as alway the staff were very friendly and made us feel very welcome we also have a very anxious dog and they always make him feel welcome as well even if he sometimes a bit barky

Not often I select EXCELLENT but this welcoming hostellery has it all. The landlords are evident and approachable. Food delicious and always generous. A disabled friend was able to order manageable food off-menu. We stayed long after closing with no pressure to leave. Highly recommended.

Not too busy and a really extensive menu with good selection for vegetarian people. Service was ok. The main gripe was that all of the menu items had no vegetables added except peas. They offered salad but we could see no vegetables added to the menu items. Such a shame so therefore only 4 stars.

A very friendly pub with an extensive menu. We ate here twice on holiday as we were so impressed. The portions are generous, the onions rings were a particular hit. There is a great range for gluten free diets. The staff were great with the children who enjoyed playing in the little garden and looking at the pond. The service is not quick, but it didn't bother us. We will eb back over Christmas. It is our new favourite.

We parked here overnight in our motorhome (Britstops) and had a warm welcome from the landlord and barmaid. We enjoyed large portions of well cooked food and the service was friendly and efficient. We look forward to a return visit.

Three of us went for lunch recently. It was very quiet for a Tuesday but that suited us. All of our meals were excellent. I had a nice pork chop which was cooked very nicely. The desserts were excellent and the member of staff who looked after us was very good. We will definitely return in the future.

Avoid at all costs. Without a doubt, the curries were appalling. Words cannot describe either the chicken or the 'prawn'. Probably the worst pub meal we've ever had. The waitress was charming.

Enormous portions, I have a small appetite so asked for a smaller portion, waitress said fine, but I still got a normal portion size, only a slight annoyance. ( and obviously paid for normal size portion) But I do think pubs should consider smaller and regular portion sizes. We all ended up not being able to finish. Was staying in a holiday home for the weekend in Suffolk for the first time. Came across this pub on google. Rang quite early in the morning to book a table for sunday. Man on the phone was very nice and polite and booked us in. I enquired about the menu online and we was able to reserve our sunday dinners to avoid disappointment which was a bonus. The food was amazing and was served very quickly. Everything was cooked to perfection and the staff were very attentive and polite. Highly recommend and if ever staying in the area again I will be back ☺️.

Called here on the way back from a plant fair, today. Despite not having booked we were fitted in and enjoyed a lovely roast dinner - such good value! Lovely staff and atmosphere. Would definitely recommend.

Another delicious Sunday roast at H & H. We took our friend after she'd previously had takeaways during lockdown. The food is perfectly home-cooked & plentiful vegetables come as a side. The add-on dessert, as all the food, was prepared that day - so very fresh & tasty! The package price is good taking into account the quality of the food & its presentation. Somebody had recently complained of 'too much' food. How that can warrant a complaint is beyond me. An adult family member of ours with a small appetite has requested a child's portion in the past & found the pub very accommodating. So full marks to Ian, Hollie, Zoe & the H & H crew for making our local (albeit 10 mins drive away) such a warm, happy & special place. Thanks again...Phil & Chris

Only the second meal out due to COVID and what a good experience for us all. Two of us had roast meals and they were superb. The lamb was really tender and there was plenty of it. There were at least five types of vegetable all perfectly cooked. We asked for extra gravy and the smart waitress brought us a gravy boat within minutes. Our daughter had a vegetarian option and she said it was very good. There are 14 vegetarian options at the huntsman which is very good. Will definitely return.

We have been twice, each time with a large group. We have had excellent service and good food. They were especially understanding when we had to reduce our numbers at short notice.

We decided to celebrate our wedding anniversary here after a friends recommendation, and we're so glad we did! The portions are extremely generous, the food is excellent without being over fancy and the service was attentive but not obtrusive. In fact, we were so full,neither my wife or I had room for a dessert!Highly recommended for a welcoming,friendly and excellent lunchtime! 10/10!

Great value for money - staff very pleasant, nice food (we had sirloin steak and beef & ale pie - don’t know how they packed so much meat into it!). Loads of veg, you certainly won’t leave here hungry - puddings looked good too but we were too full!!

we had Sunday roast. unfortunately the lamb wasn't on the menu. we had beef which came with a selection of vegetables. as the plates were cold the food didn't stay hot. as I had to cut mums food up as she is partially sighted my food was cold. one good point the deserts were yummy. staff very friendly.

After a disaster with another restaurant we called up very short notice and the pub fitted us in. Lovely atmosphere in there, staff friendly but overbearing and we felt covid safe. We had been given a nice corner table and from here had a bird eye view of the bar where we spotted staff wiping down condiments and menus (on every page!) after each customer’s use. The food was classic pub fair but an enormous choice to pick from, when fussy eaters like myself asked for this and that to be left off the burger it was no problem. Food arrived hot and tasty. Desserts were ordered but delivered later at our request to let our food go down, again this was no trouble. A lovely meal with friend and accommodating staff. Would 100% recommend.

A traditional local / country village pub. The landlord & landlady were very friendly. The beer (Adnams Southwold bitter) was really well kept and very fresh. Wine good as well. We both ordered the fish and chips which was exceptionally good. The fish in particular was light and very fresh with delicious crispy batter. Highly recommended. So good, we went back for a second time during our week's holiday staying nearby. Good portions and friendly staff.

Booked a table for an evening meal on 07.09.20. Excellent cuisine and service. Had the goats cheese and beetroot salad and my husband had the huntsman burger. Stopped for the night on the car park in our motorhome. Would recommend but road a tad noisy.

We went there on the last 50% eat out to help out deal, and it was great. A few of us are vegetarians and considering they were on a cut down menu for covid-19, there was lots of interesting choices for veggies! If you like the modern wood and grey look from the chain pubs, this place isn't for you. If you like friendly staff, traditional pub style with traditional ales and a place that still manages really good vegetarian options, then this is for you. We had desserts too, which were particularly outstanding. Banoffee Roulade, Chocolate coconut tart, treacle tart and summer pudding. Awesome.

Went here for a Friday team lunch. TBH, I thought it was going to a bit posher than the reality but the staff were fun and friendly and the food was adequate.The decor is a little tired but in the current climate its just nice to be out! Overall good value but it's not The IVY!

We were staying nearby in Rumburgh and decided to try this local pub for dinner. We hadn’t been out for dinner as a family since lockdown so were very excited about having food out and not having to wash up! We had a lovely warm welcome from Ian and it all felt very safe and clean. The food was wonderful - proper home cooked food that tasted amazing. Would really recommend this pub for food and service. Lovely beer garden too with a lake and ducks thrown in! Please pay this pub a visit if you are nearby - you won’t regret it!

Whilst visiting Suffolk on a cold and rainy Sunday me and my partner fancied a nice roast dinner. After having a little look online we came across this little gem.. we booked a table for 6pm and turned up early to be sat straight away. Service was friendly and polite and 5he food was fab! Portions were big and the vegetables were cooked to perfection.. we both had two courses and left feeling totally stuffed. Would defo recommend a visit..

Three of us had an meal early on one Monday evening so the pub was fairly quiet on the food side which is expected, however plenty of locals having a drink which is a good sign of liked pub. All three of us who ate found the food to be very good and will gladly come again. Landlord and staff are very friendly and welcoming. May sound odd but the toilets are the best we’ve seen in any freehold pub (recently refurbished).Anyway I’d highly recommend this pub.

Had their Christmas menu Saturday 7th December at lunch time. The meal was the best Pub Christmas menu I have had. Had two courses instead of the three available, very pleased I did as the portions served, including vegetable dishes was BIG. Still managed a delightful portion of christmas pudding with brandy sauce and custard.Was with a party of four and despite others eating in the pub the service was excellent. The landlord was very friendly, told us he had a local football team plus supporters numbering 56 for the evening meal. Hope they enjoyed it as much as my party did. Booking is highly recommended.

Ok ,imagine you are at home and you are helping yourself to your turkey Christmas dinner and you are feeling a bit of a pig .Well you not at home you are at a pub on the A144 twixt Halesworth and Bungay....Starve yourself first .....you may not finish this one.Outstanding doesn't do it justice!

Recently stopped in the area, and this was the local eatery.Well worth a visit. I believe it’s fairly recently changed hands, don’t know what it was like before, but excellent now.Staff very friendly, they always took us in despite not booking and being very busy.Food was excellent. We had the roast on the first night, meat lovely veggies perfect. Fish and chips second visit, not at all greasy, massive fish portion and chips cooked to perfection. Well done.

Been here many times for a drink but never eaten. One of the best roasts we’ve had in ages, plenty of meat which was very tender. All the veg was great too. Good beer selection also and prices very reasonable. Great idea that you can have a smaller roast if your appetite is less than others. All 3 of us had different meats on our roast and all came up together with plenty of gravy and sauces on the side too. Will definitely return.

Having eaten here several times over the last few months with family and friends ,I cannot recommend The Huntsman enough. The owners and staff are very welcoming and friendly, the choice, quality and portion size of the extensive menu superb and the pub is lovely and clean, warm and cosy.

Well what can I say but SUPERB SUPERB SUPERB. Great atmosphere excellent service from staff. Food is fantastic. If you give this pub a miss you are totally missing out

Went here for lunch this week. THE PROS Plenty of tender meat in the steak pies. New potatoes were ok. THE CONS The vegetables were of a poor quality. The carrots had a peculiar taste to them. Could not eat them. We overheard the people on the table behind us also complained to themselves that the carrots tasted peculiar. The pie crust was too thick. We would rather have smaller portions but a better quality.

Booked a table for 3 sat 5/10, friendly staff, large portions far to much food on the plates and the chips were awful fried and re fried dry and the colour was a beige/grey, I don’t think you need to put so much food on the plates. Personally I would prefer better quality food and not so much.

We popped in here hoping to grab a midweek meal and were pleasantly surprised! The meals were huge and everything was cooked perfectly. Nothing was too much trouble for the lovely staff. We will definitely be back!

Best Sunday Lunch I've eaten in a pub!

We visited on Sunday lunch time and were given a warm welcome. We arrived early for our booking but this was no problem for the staff. The service is great and the place is very cosy. Food was delicious and fresh. A lovely place to visit!

We ate here as a family twice during a recent holiday locally as it was very convenient to the house.

The huntsman and hound is a lovely little pub. It is a nice place to go for either just a drink or a meal. There meals are delicious. Sunday roast is a favourite of mine but the cod and chips are very tasty and the puddings are yummy. Great choices of food and the people who run it are very friendly and polite

Whilst on holiday in the area we chose this pub on the basis of recent TripAdvisor comments. Having booked ahead for early evening, to be on the safe side, we were warmly welcomed at 6 pm to a pub which was already quite busy.

We have eaten here as family several times and can’t help but keep going back.

Another return visit following on with excellent service experienced previously. Again the food, service, and general atmosphere was pleasing, a comprehensive and seemingly flexible menu . I had a large roast pork dinner of dynamic portions, was well presented a very large selection of vegetables, gravy boat with proper gravy, everything of good quality and reasonably prices. So there you have it- good stuff.

First visit for some time, in the past we have had nice meals here so decided to go back again. Glad we did, as once again we had a very nice meal, and served up more than we could both eat. Pleasant surroundings, large portions and served with a smile, what more could you ask for? Good value for money too!

Four people, bad experience before, previous owners, this place now has to be one of the best eateries around, excellent food, pleasant ambience, staff were second to none, would not hesitate taking anyone there, quality food, spoilt for choice menu

Stayed overnight in our motorhome and of course used the pub / restaurant. We were made very welcome and the food was superb, would highly recommend and will definitely return, many thanks.

We had to wait to be acknowledged and seated but when we sat down we were served a fabulous meal. Large portions and was piping hot. The price was really good for the quality of the food. Outstanding meal.

They had a problem in the kitchen which they didn't mention, and we ended up wait an hour and a half for our meals.

What a lovely surprise to find that this pub did a Sunday dinner so we had a beef roast, pork and lamb respectively. Lots of vegetables accompanied the dinner and it was delicious. Two of us had syrup sponge and one had toffee and pecan rolard. All very tasty. Really recommend this pub plus the lady bartender was very nice.

We had a table booked for 6.30pm. Order was taken, food arrived at 8pm! Needless to say we just had main course and did not bother with dessert. When my husband came to pay the bill he was told there was a problem with the grill. This should have been mentioned when our order was taken. We had nothing from the grill. Also more staff are needed front of house. Will not be returning.

This was a welcome revisit, the first July 2018. The pub was very busy and a new landlord, service was brisk and very friendly. I ordered the large fish 'n' chips which was under a tenner a rare thing these days, on arrival it was a huge portion I didn't think I would get through it but I did ! lovely fish . All the food coming out was generous and looked well presented, a couple adjacent to us had the Brunch ( all day breakfast ) and said it was good. I look forward to my next visit.

Met up with a friend for an OAP lunch! Very good value for money, lovely food & surroundings. Made very welcome. Will definitely be going there again soon!

Although now under New Ownership I am happy to say that the standard of service, and quality of the food is the same. Delicious Fish and Chips, steak to usual standard and beer great. What’s not to like!

Family members told me, you should try the old Chequers at Spexhall. So to the Huntsman & Hounds I galloped.

Five of us came to the Huntsman for lunch. The place was quite busy. Three of us had a vegetarian meal and it was excellent. I had a gammon steak with chips and the steak was very nice. I thought the chips were rather overdone but the service was 100%. We will visit again.

Amazing! We absolutely love it here. I had the battered fish which was perfect (better than chip shop!). We came for my father in laws birthday and as always we weren't disappointed. We normally come on a Wednesday night for steak night (which also includes burger, chicken and a few other choices) if you choose from the steak special board it also comes with a free dessert. The portion sizes are very generous!. Lovely friendly staff, in a quaint good old fashioned pub atmosphere. Highly recommended.

Another visit today for reasonably priced food

We have visited this pub on numerous occasions. We have dined there several times. The Sunday lunch is great. The service is good and the staff are friendly. There is ample parking. Nice traditional pub.

This pub caters for all sorts of local people from the elderly folk having lunch out to the local footballers and their supporters. We went along one evening with a couple of guests, it wasn't busy, and the atmosphere was warm and welcoming. We had fairly basic meals - steak and chips for my partner, I had the veg curry. Desserts were a range of good puddings, such as crumble and custard. Not a lot to add, it's good, down to earth fare, not for the fussy connoisseur perhaps, but it has its place in the local area without striving to be too upmarket.

We were only round the corner in our B&B; and it was our host at the B&B; that recommended the pub. It wasnt busy when we arrived and ws still serving food. The menu was just how we liked it, a small choice of pub food. Service was excellent and friendly. Our food was good with ample portions which neither of us could finish. The beer was good and local. Overall a good meal in pleasant surroundings.
