Managed to get a table on the night (no pre-booking). Didn't really know what to expect. The menu is extensive, the food was pretty good - it's not fine dining, but I don't think it has any pretensions here either. Just good food and decent portions. Service was pretty good for a busy evening and the cocktails are excellent. We also had Neil Diamond to entertain us. I hadn't expected that, and probably would not have picked it, but it was entertaining and enjoyable and added to a fun night out. I will go again.

Amazing place! I've been 3 times now and every time I've been the food was fab! The first time I went i had chicken stroganoff, then steak and ale pie and the 3rd time I had the pulled pork hot dog. I couldn't fault all 3 dishes although I would of liked a bit of salad to go with the hot dog. The service was a bit slow but the staff did amazingly well considering there were only 2 members of staff on and they were really busy. I love the décor too, lovely quirky place. Fab atmosphere with the music playing.

Had a wonderful meal tonight at the hungry monk. It's like a home from home. The kids absolutely loved it and staff went out of their way to make them happy. Food was fab, lovely atmosphere and staff amazing thanks hungry monk

Booked in saturday night for a meal and to watch beatle tribute.It was a great night ,food was very good (we had the tapas ) could'nt fault it. Servers were friendly and effecient. drinks and meal prices very reasonable.The menu caters for all tastes and is enormous.The entertainment was exceptional.Will definitely be visiting again when next in southport and can't recommend high enough.

3 adults 3 children ribs chips and beans,sausage and chips,chicken nuggets and chips aduts 1 main chicken and black pudding and the other two adults had 4 or 5 sharing dishes 3 fresh orange 1 soda and orange 1 water and 1 pint diet coke.3 puddings ice cream sundae,sticky toffee pudding and custard and chocolate brownie and custard.£80.Only issue was the chicken nuggets were not too good,otherwise everything else good.Staff were very helpful.Will go again

Very quirky restaurant serving quite a variety of freshly prepared food at a really good price. We went with friends when there was a fabulous soul duo on singing loads of great songs and we got up and had a little dance too. Food was lovely served by very friendly staff and delicious. Sadly I couldn’t eat it all and had no room for dessert which is most unlike me but we did stay all evening and had a brilliant time. Young team who were very engaging and looked after us superbly well. Can’t fault you and will definitely be coming back.

We have been to the hungry monk so many times. The chips are to die for. A very wide selection to suit all needs on the menu. The food is amazing and the staff are always polite and curtious.

Remembered this place as somewhere to get generously portioned, tapas-style food. Now it will be remembered for the longest ever wait for a jacket potato!The menu was really overfacing with far too much on it and our food took nearly 40 minutes to arrive. My wife's jacket potato was served in a metal bowl you'd expect to have sizzling fajitas in and my goats cheese sandwich was so enormous that I'd have been happy with half the amount served. To be fair, the food was OK. If you have a family of fussy eaters that love massive portions then this place is perfect. For us, it was a big disappointment and won't be back.

No other word to describe the food other than perfect. We had the chicken platter and a selection of 5 dishes. Each individual dish was cooked perfectly. Chicken was tender and the sauces which accompanied each dish we’re full of flavour. Gutted it’s not on our doorstep as we came here on a break away. Will definitely be coming back to try more of what’s on offer. The restaurant itself is warm and welcoming. The staff were also very polite and welcoming too.

We came for our fifth visit to the monk this week. As ever the food was delicious. The staff couldn't do enough to help. The atmosphere is the best in town. Would highly recommend a visit. Thank you everyone.

My parents, my husband and I chose to eat here as there is a vegetarian / vegan section on the menu which seemed quite promising and it looked cosy and quite stylish inside. The vegan options were two types of curry with chips or rice or half and half, a vegetarian burger which could be made vegan by removing the cheese (served with chips) or mixed pepper, hummus and rocket wrap. All had the (ve) sign next to them. I asked the waitress if the chips were vegan or if they were deep fried in the same fat as the meat. She thought for a second then said if I’d rung ahead to book they could have made vegan chips by frying my chips before anything else that day. This made little sense practically for me as a patron or them as a business changing the oil on a daily basis???? I wasn’t sure how the logistics of that would work. Would I have to eat at a set time to fit around their frying practices. Oven chips would be a reasonable way around this for them. I felt a little aggrieved that they had chips on the menu. Why put them on the menu for vegans if they’re not vegan? I decided to opt for the sandwich instead. This unfortunately was also a fail as there was coleslaw on the plate covering the salad. I asked the waitress if this was vegan. Again, there was a pause and then, noooooo. I don’t think I’m a particularly high maintenance vegan but I do think if a business states something is vegan they should give some consideration to what this actually means. It isn’t like ten years ago when veganism less well understood. As an aside my husband ordered a Thai green vegan curry and was given the vegan monk house curry. All in all we were very unimpressed but we waited so long for our food that we just ate it as we were famished. The decor was nice. The serving staff were pleasant enough. Won’t be going back.

We booked a meal here on the 2nd evening of our break in Southport, Sat 3rd July, the covid measures were good in that our temperature was taken as we went in. However I felt that the tables were a bit close together. It was very dark, candle lit with fairy lights, the inside is quite quirky, on the evening we visited my son & I thought it was very hot in the pub, it could have done with air con really or windows opening. As for the food, the menu is huge. I ordered steak pie with chips & veg, the chips were delicious but the pie had too thick pastry for me, the meat was ok & the veg average. It was so dark I could hardly see what I was eating ! My husband enjoyed his spare ribs more. Our son didn't really enjoy his sea bass fillets with ratatouille & potatoes either. Overall it was too hot & dark in the pub, 2 of us didn't rate the food & we wouldn't return.

Found this little place for somewhere to eat after a 1 night stop in Southport. After reading reviews online we thought to give it a go. We were NOT disappointed! I had a sirloin steak and my partner had the rump steak skewers. HUGE portions & my steak was so tasty. Would 100% return for another meal. Thank you

We were visiting the area for a few days and decided on the hungry monk . It was worth the visit, the food was very good and the service was aswell. All covid precautions were undertaken pleasantly by the staff. We both enjoyed the atmosphere, quiet but it was lunchtime we would be happy to return when we're in the area again

Visited 9 July. Covid precautions AMAZING. Temperature and hand sanitizer before allowed to enter. Table sanitised before our eyes. Congratulations to ALL the Staff working in such conditions. Our omelettes were to die for. A 'must go to' Restaurant if anyone reading. Well done.

My daughter took me here last Sunday with her husband and two boys for my annual Daddy's Day din din. She had no choice as it was me that booked it, having seen it when passing by. Lovely place, really unusual decor, great selection on the menu at very reasonable prices. I went for the liver, bacon, black pudding and onions (yes, I'm an old guy) whilst the sproggettes all went for thoroughly modern pastas and burgers, each of which came with a neat twist. Will be coming again.

My sister and I were staying in Southport for a few days and stumbled across this gem of a place. Called in for an afternoon drink, decided after seeing other customers dishes being served to have a meal. We both had rump steak and we were not disappointed! Cooked perfectly and served with a smile. We ended up booking a table for the entertainment on fri 18th, fabulous night. Great entertainment, great atmosphere and again great service . We were then back again in sat afternoon for a departure meal. We were rembered and that was lovely. We will be definitely be going back when we return. We went as a family of 3 for a fathers day meal, the food served was luke warm, fish was not fresh and frozen, very watery, the rump steak was not a rump steak more like thin fatty steak very poor quality food not as good as usual, choice of food was minimal no pasta dishes etc. Overall very disappointed its like its either changed hands or a different chef, either way we wont be visiting again.

Really excellent food at a reasonable price. Large portions. Had the rare steak and it was done perfectly, not overcooked like some places. Nice ambience too.

We went here for dinner whilst staying in Southport (booked in advance). There's a great selection of food and drink to choose from. We both had the Monks House chicken curry. I had it last time we were in Southport and really enjoyed it and it was absolutely delicious again, amazing. Great service from staff, friendly and helpful. Great place, would recommend.

Always a good call visiting this quirky eatery. They have a great menu with good variations on the usual 'chain' menus and we've found the staff to always be a cut above the rest, not afraid to have a friendly word or two.We prefer eating on the few outside tables in the arcade (the HM is in an arcade that cuts between the pedestrianised area of Chapel St & Lord St) as we get the benefit of the enclosed roof but with good ventilation which we prefer in these times.Good quality food and hearty portions. Give them a tray, it's a nice change to the usual culprits of fast food & anodyne big chains.

Myself and my two friends had been waiting so long to get back to our favourite restaurant in Southport and when we finally arrived we weren’t disappointed. The staff are so friendly and the food is amazing, we’ve been a few times in the past and always received excellent service and left feeling very satisfied. The covid safety precautions they have in place were not overbearing but we felt very safe. I would recommend this place to anybody looking for high quality food in a lovely cozy environment.

5 years since my last visit which is far too long and took my partner for the 1st time and I had told her how amazing this place was and how quirky it was too ! She was absolutely blown away by the atmosphere, the staff, particularly Charlie and Jackie, the food and the entertainment. What more could anyone want after being “locked up” these last months ! Staff were so friendly and welcoming and professional and I’d forgotten how that trait is followed throughout Southport where everyone is so friendly and nothing is too much trouble The food was excellent as my previous visits and I just can’t fault the place or the prices. We had 5 tapas to share and a scrumptious bowl of chilli cheese chips and were full.

Visited the hungry monk last night for a family dinner on first day opening after lockdown. From being greeted at the door on arriving to saying goodbye after a great dining experience the whole experience was fabulous. The eclectic quirky decor kept us amused while waiting for our mealswhich by the way were served quickly by a lovely chatty waiter & were really delicious we all enjoyed our meals & will certainly be back. This place is a hidden gem being tucked away down an arcade but well worth seeking out.

Wow, we were warned that the restaurant was a bit pricey,but we decided to give it a go. The service was attentive and the setting was good for a small coastal village. We have eaten at many top end restaurants , however, this place is way over priced for what you get . R345 for a lamb curry and R365 for a prawn curry. I assumed for those prices it was for 2 people, however, we were informed the portion size was for one person. We broke the bank and ordered, as we had already ordered our drinks. The food was flavorsome but definitely not worth the price you paid. Owner sat in the corner on his computer and didn’t interact with any of his quests, there were only 8 of us in the entire restaurant. We will definitely not be revisiting this restaurant anytime soon. Their pricing is exorbitant and unaffordable !

Brilliant food great staff somewhere to relax after a long drive and enjoy a meal and a cup of tea and chill

Visited during a rare weekday off between Christmas and New Year. We have ate here many many times and the food is as good as it’s always been. Covid restrictions followed with temperature and hand sanitiser and asking if we were from same household - I read below the person saying about another table not being same household, this is happening all over. We have been out as our household a few times now and people are obviously not following this rule however the staff also aren’t the Police, they can’t demand evidence you’re from the same household and can only take your word for it. I think its extremely unfair to put this on the restaurant staff when they are trying to make money to survive - they are following the rules its everyone else who is not. I had the Lasagna anyway and staff were a delight. Recommend a visit if you’re in the area!

We came here for a family birthday meal as we usually do in large scale but because of covid we had to have it as just our household this time around! We were greeted pleasantly by a member of staff who took our temp and provided us with sanitizer. He asked us if we were all from the same household as per the rules and everyone was wearing a mask whilst moving around the restaurant. It was a 1 in 1 out to use the toilet which was fine.I would class this restaurant as covid safe. We started with the bread and oil!, plenty of bread and the oil dip we couldnt get enough of. I always get the steak although the menu is very broad and i have tried a few of the grazers and they are just as lovely! We also got the monks burger, swinging kebab and the fish stew (which my stepdad said was the best he has ever had and generously portioned as all the meals are to the point he asked for it to take home) We had no problem with our food all fantastic! There was about a 25 minute wait which was no problem as we could have a chat and enjoy being out the house!!!Our only mistake was over endulging on the starters so we couldnt fit in deserts so i cannot comment on them but they looked good when i saw them on other tables! Great night, brilliant staff, felt safe. Highly reccomend.

Visited here today for an early tea with our 2 grandchildren. 1st child's meal came out and following a wait the 3 remaining meals. My meal was cold so asked the waitress could it be heated. 20 minutes passed still no meal and we were asked by a waiter how everything was with our meals. After explaining I was still waiting for my main we received an apology and the waitress returned stating it was being cooked. Half an hour later still no meal and our party had finished eating. I was assured it was ready so we ordered puddings for the children, waffles, cream and chocolate sauce with no ice cream. The puddings came out accompanied with 2 dollops of ice cream. Eventually I got my main course and wish I could say it was worth the wait but it was average. The restaurant was not overly busy and the lack of communication and efficiency with the service left a bitter taste in our mouths. Although the staff were extremely apologetic I would not eat here again.

Our food took 45 minutes from ordering to delivery which I consider a long time as the room was only half full. As we are in the midst of a covid pandemic I am willing to accept there may be staff shortages and special measures in operation. A word from a staff member to apologise for the delay would have gone a long way. The food was on the pricey side and was cooked on the outside but some of the inside was less cooked, The staff were friendly enough and as this is one of the few eateries who open on Mondays we mustn't be too critical.

Must have eaten here 30 times over the last 5 years and it's normally very good. Booked or the first meal out in a long time today. Got there and had no record of my booking, but as luck would have it they could fit us in. I'd been asked to confirm we were all from the same household when I booked. Was shocked when a couple who were sitting at a table behind us were joined by another couple, clearly not from the same household - the "Long time no see!!" gave it away. I asked the lady behind the bar (she's always there) if it was ok to meet your friends in the new tier 2 rules - no she said. I told her the people behind us weren't from the same household. "All we can do is ask," she says. I suggested she could in fact do more, especially when they are making it so obvious. "That's all we have to do", she says, "and anyway you should be wearing a mask if you want to wander about". I had literally taken 2 steps to report this to her. Horrendous attitude from this supposedly responsible person which clearly shows where this place's priorities lie.So if you want somewhere to go to unlawfully and irresponsibly meet your friends for lunch during the pandemic that will ignore the regulations, this is the place for you. If you're responsible and want to actually help prevent the spread of virus, go somewhere that respects the rules. They take your temperature on entry and ask you to sanitise your hands, but that must just be for show. I know times are hard but it's quite sad if they are so hungry for business that they will allow this in their premises. Ironically they've lost my business now.Oh the food - usually good but not so much today. Welsh Rarebit came with uninvited bacon on and was overcooked to the point of being hard with black charred bits. Server brought my food but mis-described it so I thought it wasn't mine and sent it back, Chicken katsu burger was small and uninspiring, but chicken ceasar salad and chilli cheesy chips very good as always, I seriously hope the owner sees this review and has a word.

We have beeen twice recently as we had seen numerous good reviews on a local food review site and thought we havent been for a number of years lets give it another try and see. They were doing their own extended eat out to help out scheme and so we thought well why not as in tier 3 and they need as much support as can and obviously doing this is helping them and us at same time as we thought if we like it then we will go back again and did 2 wks later. We booked for a Thursday evening which was one of the nights they were doing the eat out help out and we both had burger and had every intention of having a pudding, but were too full after our burgers! Hubby had the scottish burger which was a burger and then a layer of haggis, he had one of these last year for the first time when we were in Scotland and he loved it. I just went for the plain burger but it wasnt just a plain burger it was delicious! The chips were lovely and soft on the inside and crispy on the outside and the salad was really tasty and not like a side thing but part of the meal. We went back 2 wks later booking for a Wednesday night and they were nearly full and while we were there some tables emptied and more came in, which was really good to see for them as it was mid week and in tier 3 with numbers of covid on the increase and looking likely there would be a further lockdown (which obviously did happen). The second time we went I had the swinging skewer of steak with dauphinois potatoes and hubby had swinging steak skewer but with chips and they came with salad and flatbread too. Then we made sure we could manage a pudding and so I had sticky toffee pudding with cream and hubby had eaton mess. The dauphinois potatoes were absolutely delicious and so was the steak skewer etc and mmmmmm sticky toffee pudding yum yum! Hubby said the eaton mess was proper eaton mess not like he has had in some places which they do with ice cream and some meringue, but as it is supposed to be and he said it was the best! We will be going back when they reopen too as we seen few other things on menu fancy and as we will have been unable to eat out for 4 wks then why not and maybe try booking for a Friday or Saturday night.

Great meal and great service - most delicious Dauphinoise potatoes ever. If you're not familiar with Blue Moon draught beer, do sample it here - make sure you ask them to crush the orange in the bottom of the glass, just in case they forget !Following all Covid precautions, so feel perfectly safe.

We originally were going to eat at Le Boulevard but it was closed so tried this place. We had an hour before our movie so thought this was plenty of time to order the food and eat. 50 minutes later we had no food even after my friend got a hold of the waitress and told her we had to go soon. She said to us"It's cooked fresh." Her reason why we had no food. I have cooked fish and chips and burgers before from fresh myself and it didn't take 50 min!!! Finally even if the food would have came we would have had only 5 min to eat it so we had to cancel it.Then they tried to charge us for the two cokes we had--over £7! I said I didn't think we should have to pay because we never even got our food. She said basically if you don't want to pay for it fine. I said we don't and we left.The staff was untrained and very young. Twice they tried to give us someone else's food. (maybe this is what happened to ours???)I would never eat her again...oh yeah, I never ate here in the first place because the food never came!

What a lovely surprise! After a good brisk walk around Hesketh Park, by accident we came across this restaurant and aren’t we pleased we did. Greeted at the door under the Covid instructions and tables all socially distanced. We both enjoyed Liver and Onions, it could not have been better, just what the doctor ordered. Thank you and next time in Southport, we know where to come.

The menu was varied and good, food could have been hotter but was okay. Social distancing was spot on.

Was on a short visit to the area with my wife. Was blessed to stumble across this venue. I must say the service and food was top notch. I am 62 and can honestly say this is my most memorable pub ever. The owners and staff should be very proud.

Been here 3 times now, enjoyed the food n drinks, but sadly the last 2 times was a bit too busy to sit socially distanced, so couldnt relax. Lovely friendly waitress, hope after the pandemic we can enjoy it again

First time here, were recommended by friends. Came here on Saturday Night for the comedy night. Had a brilliant time. Temperature taken on arrival and brilliantly socially distanced. Food was superb, served by very pleasant staff. Both comedians were fabulous. Absolutely brilliant night with a buzzing atmosphere. Will be back next time in southport.

Visited here on the 29th SeptemberI got the full rack of ribs (so did the wife although she could only manage half)Absolutely Gorgeous Ribs and will be coming again for them!Drinks also very goodAlso, they are still doing the discount on Tuesday and Wednesdays but would be happy to pay full price as it was excellent food, drink and service

Great quirky bar/ restaurant .Temperature taken on arrival at pre booked time .Lots of self distancing. Staff all in protective gear. The food was delicious and very good value for money .

My friend recommended we went here for food, when we got there we were welcomed straight away fully Covid secure as our temps where taken at the door and we were advised of the current government guidelines. Had some really amazing food not your everyday average pub grub! Gastro pub style I would eat here again and again! We had a real treat as there was a Bryan Adam’s/Bruce Springsteen tribute on at 8 we were blown away by him to be honest he was a real entertainer! Can’t thank Steph enough for catering to me and my horrendous allergies I have she even made me cocktails that weren’t on the menu! Also a massive shoutout to the gang there Ryan, Will and Cassie who really looked after us xx can’t wait to see you all again x P.S you handled that KAREN amazingly I would have thrown her out after two mins

Nice bar / restaurant with plenty to choose from the menu, pleasent staff to serve you and hidden out the way a bit. The food portions were big too and were delicious.

Had an absolutely fabulous night at The Hungry Monk last Friday night. My young daughter and I were visiting our friend in Southport for the first time. Staff were very welcoming and friendly on arrival. Extensive menu, food was fantastic, good sized portions, good wine and the atmosphere was brilliant. Surprise live music with George Michael lookalike and all the 80’s music. Such a great atmosphere and bar staff were so friendly. We had such a good night we booked again for the Saturday night!

Both of us had steak tonight, tasted amazing and perfectly cooked. My favourite restaurant in Southport, will be back again soon. Staff friendly and attentive. Would recommend to anyone worried about going out with covid around, good precautions in place, all staff in masks, hand sanitizer available and you get your temperature taken on arrival

Absolutely the best place to go for food. The menu is brilliant so spoilt for choice. We shared 5 tapas dishes and each was cooked and served beautifully. Staff were attentive pleasant and friendly whilst being extremely professional in these weird times! The place itself is eccentric but that gives an even better experience. We will return very soon!

On a recent visit to Southport & based on TripAdvisor reviews we sort out The Hungry Monk for our lunch. For a Tuesday it was busy, we realised later that they'd extended the 50% Eat Out to Help Out so this was clearly adding to the foot fall. We decided to sit outside, COVID safety measures were good & were been adhered to. We decided on a sharing platter with a side portion of 'double cooked' chips the food arrived quickly was well presented & tasty alongside a couple of pints the bill was already reasonable but with the added 50% off an absolute bargain. All in all a pleasant lunch, my only observation would be that when sitting outside (its situated in a lovely covered arcade) there is so much pigeon poo on the pavement opposite which I know is difficult to manage and probably outside the establishments control but it is slightly off putting & such a shame as it's a lovely setting.

Had a meal here last night with friends and can’t rate the place highly enough! The food and service were outstanding! I can quite honestly say that it is by far the best place we have visited in these “strange times” We felt totally safe, everyone was confirming to social distancing but the place felt alive and full of atmosphere. We will be coming back to Southport in early December and will definitely book here again. Thank you to all the staff for making the evening so good and to the brilliant singer who entertained us. Another added bonus it’s also great value for money!!!

Stopped in Southport for the weekend and had no booking for an evening meal. They accommodated us and I’m so glad they could. Me and the hubby ordered two different steak dishes. Wow, huge portions which we’re delicious. Tasty bottle of wine and live music was an added surprise. We ended up staying all night. The young staff were very friendly and helpful especially Charlie. We will defo return.

My friends and I had a great meal here yesterday. We had 4 steaks, a lasagne and chicken kebabs, they were all really nice. Meals were huge. Very clean place, all staff wore face visors, and were very friendly and attentive. We had to use sanitizer on the way to and from the toilet which we had to ourself. Would definitely go again, so much choice on the menu.

Wow, the food here is really good. We visited last week for dinner. The menu has a wide selection of options to choose from. My husband had the beef stroganoff which he enjoyed. I had the chicken curry, its the best curry i've had in ages. It was delicious, 10/10. Great service from staff, friendly and helpful. Lovely pub and would definitely recommend and visit again.

Went to Southport for a stroll round with the dog, fancied some food but not greasy chips, stumbled across this place, sat outside, friendly staff, Covid aware, singer was on inside a booth in the pub, we sat outside which is under cover, had some lovely food whilst listening to the singer, nice chilled out evening, only downfall is people smoking outside but there’s nothing the pub can do about that, will go back definitely

One of the best restaurants in Southport, food is always good, staff friendly, clean to what I’d call nhs standards for Covid! Staff following all guidance and advice! We love eating here when in Southport!

My friend and I went here last night. We both ordered from the grazing menu. I ordered the exact same thing I ordered when I was there 2 years ago (it was delicious then)but the meat was tough and overcooked,the calamari was inedible and although we were assured that the waitstaff had made the desserts (which I found hard to believe)it wasn't that good. Very very disappointed. Won't be going back.

I have been here loads of times now, its my go to place when i visit Southport, they have all the procedures in place, they take temps at the door, they explain the in's and outs and sanitize your hands, the staff also wear visors which a lot of places i have visited don't! I always suggest it because of the menu having an option for everyone dining there!, i had the new to the menu "Fish stew" which was lovely!, the portion sizes are great for the money, my friends meals consisted of the Vegan Thai curry, grazzing menu which is an option of mini meals which is a fantastic idea! a bit like tapas but with every day meals. if you have room after the meal make sure you get a dessert! i had the brownie and i've been thinking about it ever since!

Visited with my friends for tea and drinks and had the best night. Food was lovely and drinks were perfect! Really nice atmosphere and staff were very attentive! Will definitely return!

Food was ok salt and pepper chips needed a lot less salt and actually some pepper and for £3.70 maybe some more chips the tables were sticky and had crumbs in all the grooves on the table wasn’t sure if my sandwich was toasted or stale Charged £4.50 for a child’s dessert. I had heard a lot of good things about the restaurant but was very disappointed with the overpriced food and the lack of cleanliness such a shame.

The Starter was lovely (sorry no pic), had the Tbone med rare for main, it was really lovely but didn't feel like it was Med Rare, but still delicious.Wasn't gonna have desert but when someone orders one and then another then its a must, need to join in. I orderd the Sticky Toffee with Custard and it was fabulous.Will come again.

Been here before still great food. some new things on the menu. My wife had the fish stew she said it was gorgeous. I had king prawn curry. Loads of prawns . Covid 19 stuff was best in southport. Temp taken at door hand sanitizer given us. Staff all masked up brilliant and safe!!!! Well done Hungry monk 10 out of 10.

Can highly recommend the steak and ale pie. Make sure you go early to grab dessert before they run out. Lovely staff, very friendly and helpful.

Lovely staff, we had a welcoming lady wait on us this afternoon, sadly we didn't get her name. I felt I ought to write a review for other families with babies as I was taken aback with the fact there wasn't any baby changing facilities...at all. So I had to change my babys nappy on the toilet floor (thankfully I had a foldable mat) but this day and age, especially with the current pandemic, we shouldn't be left to change a baby on a public toilet floor...

Had a fabulous meal here,a very extensive menu,the beef stroganoff was delicious,Had it served with half rice and half chips,all very tasty,we were fortunate to get 50%this was eat out to help out,a government thing,Well worth a visit,so good we had lunch there next day.

Absolutely awesome meal and customer service this evening. We received the usual warm welcome that we have always had here. Charlie our waiter was absolutely awesome. An absolute credit to the establishment. Friendly, professional and full of the traditional Scouse banter. There were a few problems with our meal, however they were quickly and professionally dealt with. Really enjoyed our anniversary. Thank you for a great evening

Went for a meal today Got shown to our table and told they would bring the menus Waited 25 minutes for a menu then finally someone brought them.Looked at the menu then waited another 30 minutes for someone to take our order for food and drinks Then we waited another 55 minutes for our food to come looked lovely but when I started to eat it it was stone cold.Called someone across and told them and they said would you like a fresh one which I declined as we had already been in there for nearly 2 hours. They took the food away then a few minutes later a manager came to us an he apologised saying they had checked the temperature and admitted it was cold. This is totally unacceptable serving cold food and will never go back again.

Love it here I always find it so hard to find a good place for breakfast/lunch the hungry monk offer both for most of the day and much more, the staff are lovely and so accommodating it’s my new favourite place for lunch and will try in the night soon as the reviews for that look good also

It was really a lovely surprise to find this restaurant, on the outside it already looks lovely but than you also have the inside and than ofcourse and most important really good food. A pearl in an oyster

Visited with four friends for a meal and George Michael tribute night . The food and service were absolutely excellent . We chose from the grazing menu and everyone thoroughly the dishes - especially the steak with peppercorn sauce - and ‘proper’ chips to die for ! - and really good value . The entertainment was fantastic - really good fun and a chance to have a dance to finish off the night . There really is nowhere else like this locally . Best night out for a long time !

Entertainment was good food was mediocre. I ordered a cheese and potato pie, didn’t taste like it had any cheese in it just potato, my husband had lamb in a Yorkshire pud, the mashed potato was like instant mash yuk

5 mums on a night out, what a great time was had by all, the tribute act was amazing and got everyone up on their feet for a dance. Food superb, and the staff couldn't of been more attentive. Excellent value . Will be back in the very near future.Definitely recommend!!

3 of us visited on 13.02.2020.Absolutely fantastic service and food. My 4 yo daughter loved her cheeseburger. My mum and I had a delicious posh cheese on toast and duck wrap. Our server Ryan was attentive, polite and most of all interacted with my little girl wonderfully. Full credit from one waiter to another.Will be back and definitely recommending.

To celebrate one of our friends birthdays (60). 20+ of us enjoyed the great staff and great food, the Marvin Gaye tribute act was really good. It's hard to fault this place. We had pre-booked our tables, and from our entry to exit, we all felt really welcome. We weren't rushed with the meal and we have already booked to see "The Paddywackers" on 22 Feb.

Stumbled across this bar when sheltering from the rain and so glad we decided to pop in for a bite to eat. The atmosphere was very relaxed but bustling with a wide range of ages groups from young couples, mums and prams, families and retired couples. Staff were busy but friendly and attentive. Menu is massive and if you need reading glasses for the small print they even have a basket with loan ones at the bar! Far too much we could have chosen but plumped for a rib sharing platter at £18. When it arrived there was a full rack of bbq ribs, 2 corn on cob, skin on fries for 2, coleslaw salad and nachos - we ordered an extra side of onion rings too. Food was really fresh and more than we expected so delivered excellent value for money. Felt stuffed at the end so finished with a couple of coffee's. Along with a pint and half of larger the bill was £28. So well fed skipped our tea later that day. We will definitely return on our next visit to Southport.

We were on our Xmas staff night out (yes it was a late one). We had been to the Atkinson for a show and booked here for a meal afterwards. We were shown to our table, which we had booked, as soon as we arrived. We were able to get drinks straight away. Our food order was taken very quickly and we didn't have a long wait for it to come. Very impressed by the service. The food was great. I had tapas as did four others in our party, the other three having main meals. We all really enjoyed it. There was a Neil Diamond tribute singer on. Great atmosphere. Will definitely be back again either with friends again or with my husband and also family. Thank you for helping us to have a brilliant evening.

What a fine... was very busy but got a table almost straight away. I had cheese and potato pie and hubby had steak pie. All home made and is dog friendly...

We visited Friday afternoon love this place been before ordered the ribs and steak combo ribs were good but the steak was awful very fatty and full of gristle which was still on the plate when the waitress came to the table to ask if everything was ok told her the steak was awful she asked if we had the combo and we said yes she just took it away and that was it no apology or mention of it the other 4 meals we had were good paid the bill of £ 90 85 dissapointed that it was never mentioned or addressed

visted for the first time and it was lovely we ordered crispy chicken burger and a side of coleslaw and it was gorgeous home cooked fresh food. We will deffo be back! would recommend to anyone looking to eat somewhere decent and a bit quirky. Love the decor!

We celebrated my birthday here this year, the staff were lovely and brought out some cake with sombreros to celebrate and we drank our way through the cocktail list.

My wife and I had lunch this week and I had Steak and Ale pie, and she had Cheese and Potato pie.The veg and steak were satisfactory but the pastry was like a brick, same with my wife's meal.We made it known to the staff.We make pies at home and the pastry would melt in your mouth. Why these chefs cannot make a decent pastry in beyond me!.

Visited as a party of 4, I've been countless times, I love the place, 2 out of the 4 hadn't been before but they certainly will be going again, everyone loved it. Great food, drink, atmosphere and staff. 2 of us shared 5 dishes from the grazing menu (all lovely) and 2 others had steak each, they said they were the best steak they'd had in Southport, cooked beautifully. When we went the place was busy but we where served in good time. Thank you all again for a fabulous evening, I know I'll be back again soon.

I came here over Christmas when visiting my family, we always choose the hungry monk as it caters for all of us with its fab menu!, i had the sirlion steak, which was beautifully presented, great portion size and was cooked just how i like it (medium rare)- sometimes other places either cook it too much or too little, our meals consisted of lamb shank, the monk burger, strognoff and skewers none us could fault a thing.

Went to see the tribute night had a lovely meal the place was very friendly and food well presented. We had a great night will deffo be coming back

Came here new years eve booked months ago as such a good deal £39.95 for new years eve.

Nye been numerous times as couple and previous new years. And so took friends who have used this for staff Xmas meals last few years

I take exception to a place calling itself an Ale House when the only ale it has is in bottles. There’s a good selection of the latter but not a single hand pump which is a bit misleading. The mostly young staff are polite and helpful and there’s a very extensive menu so I imagine the microwave is hard at it in the Kitchen . Coconut prawns are very good. Portions are generous and they will help you to take it away if, like us, you can’t eat it all. Decor is cosy and there’s an enormous mirror on the stairs. If, like me you want some actual ale, the Tap and Bottles is across the way.

Well done to Steph and all the staff For the excellent night the entertainment was not quite up to the normal standard but the staff and the excellent food made up for that see you next year # love the monk xxxc

Booked a table for 4.30pm on NY Eve. Ordered 5 sharer dishes which were perfectly cooked and so well presented. There was so many dishes to chose from it was an hard choice. Our dishes included prawns, 2 different types of lamb, halloumi and loaded potato skins. We didn't order fries as pitta bread was part of one of the dishes and the potato skins were of a good size and very filling. The staff were really nice as usual. We always visit the Hungry Monk when in Southport as it never fails to impress us. Highly recommended you try this restaurant.

Went on the recommendation of my daughter. Pleasant place and friendly staff. Had the Welsh rarebit which came on very thick brown toast but I did think it was a bit stodgy. Cheese was very good.

My husband and I just called off for a quick bite on Saturday. My husband had a lovely beef burger, I had a steak sandwich on brown bread which was absolutely delicious and plenty of steak. The only criticism is that we were charged nearly £4 for one little small pot of chips.

Attended a party night last night,,was made to wait outside until gone 7:30 before they opened the doors, stood in the cold. Once inside we were shown to a table that was situated ON the dancefloor...but we didn't know that at the time. Party started at 7:30 and the food was on the bar. We didn't get to eat until half past 9 due to going up in table order 1-15. Unfortunately by this time a lot of the food was cold, and when we finally did sit down to eat, we were elbowed in the sides by dancers from table 1, who had already eaten their meal an hour earlier.

The food is quite good considering how busy it gets. The first time I went there was live entertainment that was quite funny and I had a laugh. The second time I went there was a live band/single singer, playing tribute to Cold Play which was not so good. It was way too loud and noisy. If you want a nice quiet meal this is not the place for you, it's crowded very loud and very busy

Visited with a party of 30-ish for a 16 year-olds birthday meal.

We absolutely love coming here; although we don't live in Southport, we will go out of our way to return to 'The Hungry Monk', as often as we can. Both food and service are excellent, the staff are lovely and work so hard. I highly recommend that anyone frequents this marvellous restaurant should they ever visit Southport for a day/ evening out!

Weekend visit to Southport with a group of friends and we dined here twice. Amazing menu and a unique atmosphere. Quality food and really friendly, hardworking staff. All of this with entertainment as well. This is a special dining experience and we'll worth a visit.
