The Howard Arms is a real gem in beautiful Brampton. This was the second time we stopped here on the way to the ferry in Newcastle. The room is very well equipped and designed with great attention to detail. The associated pub has excellent cuisine and is extremely cozy. The staff is really nice and friendly. We have now decided to spend two nights at the Howard Arms next year and take a look at the beautiful and historic area in peace and not just in transit.

Hidden gem in Brampton! After a long week staying in hotel chains, I was grateful to stay somewhere warm and cosy. The staff were lovely, and the food was hearty and plentiful, with an excellent selection of Ales on tap to quench your thirst. My room was comfy and clean. I will be visiting again. Thank you.

Booked for Mother's Day, was not told on the phone about a fixed menu or a singer. Arrived at 12:30 was shown to our seats, we had a quick photo with the flower decorations and a member of staff rolled their eyes. After we were seated, we had the menus and asked if there were any other options as one of our family members was vegan. After ordering drinks and our orders, there was an hours wait. My mother-in-law asked if they had a cheese board instead of dessert. The waitress said she would ask, but the reply was no, so after the main, the singer started, and although he was good, it was extremely loud and our little one had to wear his ear defenders. I had to take him out as he was distressed. My wife went to pay the bill and spoke to the landlord, who was very rude. Avoid this place.

Landlord needs to learn customer service! We booked for half 12 for mother's day. The mothers day menu was limited. We ordered and the food took just under an hour to come and the vegetables came nearly 4 to 5 minutes later. No condiments were offered when it did arrive. My sons soup was watery. The beef took some cutting and chewing, roast potatoes were hard and chewy and the yorkshire puddings were overcooked. We were not told there would be a live singer on from 2pm. My 4 year old is sensitive to loud sounds. When we questioned this at the bar the landlord said 'it's been on social media for weeks.' We explained we aren't on social media and he shrugged his shoulders and walked off. We left the rest of our family to stay for dessert and they were sat waiting for another 30 minutes. The landlords attitude was disgusting.

Had lunch at this place and was disappointed by food service and response to my feedback. I had Fish and Chips. The batter was stodgy, looked aneamic and clung to the plate like a wet towel. I was hoping for better cuisine than this. The response I received from the male Bar Tender when I paid my bill and said I wouldn't eat here again was a German Phrase meaning he wasn't bothered followed by him shrugging his shoulders. This was memorable experience for the wrong reasons. It goes without saying I will not be returning here for more of the same.

The place was nice and the staff were pleasant. The food was less than average though, the Sunday chicken dinner came with 3 or 4 slices of chicken which would equate to half a breast and I could play golf with the roast potatos. Roast beetroot is unusual choice also. The staff, although pleasant seemed to be new or unorganised or perhaps a bit of both. I won't be revisiting and I couldn't recommend

We stayed for 2 nights in this brilliant pub with our dog Daisy. Its incredibly dog friendly and the owners friendly dogs wandered around the bar area freely. The staff are incredible and could not do enough for us. The bedroom was large and clean with tea, coffee and biscuits that were renewed each day. They even provided a dog blanket and bowl ( although we brought Daisys bed) it was a lovely gesture. The food was great and we ate there both nights. The pub had a lovely lively atmosphere with some live music on the Friday evening. We were lucky with the weather and walked a fair stretch of Haidrians wall which wasnt too far away. I will definitely stay here again.

Dangerous and disappointing.i ordered from their gluten free menu,it's not worth the paper it's written on after ordering the game casserole, I was told you won't get the dumpling it clearly states with a dumpling on the menu,so I changed and ordered the belly pork starter from the GF menu, again I was told well that isn't the actual sauce that you will get with it because the sauce that you get with it contains gluten seriously on a GF menu main o had the GF stroganoff, within in 15mins of finishing my me I was vomiting, doubled over in pain and was burping terribly,I had clearly been given something with large amounts of gluten,I don't think this place realises the dangers of eating gluten when you are celiac .

We booked a couple of nights through travelzoo. On arrival we were impressed by the appearance and atmosphere of the bar/restaurant area. There was no obvious reception but were quickly greated by a very personable staff member who sorted us out very efficiently. Our room was comfortable with a great bathroom with shower. Although the room lacked a window other than a small one looking to the fire escape this didn't take away from an enjoyable stay. We did see some other rooms during our stay and these were larger and airer. We ate in the hotel on both nights and the food was excellent, I particulary enjoyed the game casserole. The restaurant/bar was well frequented with locals, residents and tourists, which made for a good atmosphere. The hotel is tied to Thwaits brewery and the beer choice was excellent Staff were excellent, very friendly and happy to help, top notch Overall a great stay

After driving round looking for a rural pub to have lunch outside in the sunshine. All the pubs we did find to have outside seating finished serving at 2pm. We found the Howard arms. First impressions looked good, beautiful looking building the main bar has a lovely cosy feeling. Having never been before we asked if there was anywhere to eat outside, the girl behind the bar said yes out the back of the building. When entering the court yard it looked lovely, only a few tables, and a covered area with two large settees and benches. It was nice to sit in the sunshine finally. The young girl took our drinks and food order within 5 minutes of sitting down. Whilst waiting for our order we noticed that the court yard was very dirty, cigarette butts littered the floor. The leather sofas were filthy and there was random stuff crammed everywhere! Our food arrived 30 minutes after we had ordered it. My partner had the steak pie and chips, I had the southern fried chicken burger with chips. My burger was very bland no flavour at all to it. My partners pie he said was ok, but has had better. The waitress never asked if we enjoyed our food we never saw her again after she had served the main meals. We had to go to the bar to settle our bill. I would understand if the pub was busy but it wasn’t! The food was not worth the price being charged. Service was poor.

Stopped off here for an overnight stay on our way to Scotland. Pleasant market town and all locals seemed very friendly and welcoming. Very relaxed dog friendly bar area and evening meal was good. Having driven for several hours we were obviously tired and looked forward to an early night and comfortable sleep (we are in our late ‘60’s). Our room was immediately above the bar area and we knew we were in trouble when a band started up at around 8 pm. It is no exaggeration to say the room was shaking, bathroom tinkling and our dog was frightened. When it got to 10 pm I could stand it no more and telephoned downstairs. I was told it would finish at 11pm but she would ask them to turn it down (which didn’t happen). Explaining that I was not happy that we had been put in this room above a loud band and that we should at the least have been warned so that we could try and make alternative arrangements we were told to raise the issue in the morning with the owner. He was not to be seen so we had breakfast and settled the bill with the young morning staff. I expected an email apology from the hotel during the rest of our holiday but nothing was forthcoming so I sent an email to the hotel which was not acknowledged or acted upon. This is what I find most annoying. A shame because this could have been a good stay.

It was worth the wait as the Ribeye was simply the best!!!! I am very fussy when it comes to my Steak and our Ribeye was tender and beautifully cooked to the perfect Medium Rare. We enjoyed two nights at the Howard Arms and found the room to be clean and comfortable, with quality bedding and a nicely refurbished en-suite bathroom. But it was the breakfast that elevated this place above much of the competition at this price point. I have stayed in much more expensive establishments and not enjoyed such a good breakfast. The buffet table featured fresh fruit, yogurt and seeds and fresh pastries in addition to the usual cereals. And the hot breakfast was excellent - a perfectly cooked fried egg, big fat locally produced sausage, a whole roasted tomato...and all cooked to order and served on warmed plates. And good coffee. Despite the room being above a busy and thriving pub, we found it to be surprisingly quiet. A shout out to the staff - really friendly and helpful.

Any hotel restaurant that is full on a Monday night in August has much to recommend it as a place to eat. This is comfort food from a Thwaites establishment in the middle of Brampton. We had the cobbler pie and the steak and ale pie. The latter might have been improved further with the addition of kidneys to break-up the pulled beef. both pies are generous in size and come with mask or in some case chips and other vegetables although the vegetable portions aren't of the same size as the pies. My one grip - cold bitter. Serve larger cold but bitter at room temperature please.
