This pub was recommended by a friend, and it did not disappoint. We enjoyed so much we went back again. Staff and customer service was excellent. The menu offered a nice variety, and the quality was excellent. Our food was delicious & the portions were plentiful.Due to weather, we were unable to take advantage of the beautiful pub garden, but look forward to it on future visits.Definitely felt at ease as great attention was paid to covid regulations. Spacious car park. Highly recommended!

Having eaten here a lot over the last few years, we were incredibly disappointed. You know it's going to end badly when you over hear the chef say to the waitress with your order that he will do it 'depending on what it is'. Chef ...sorry cook...dressed in jeans and tshirt as was waiting staff...leggings and a hoodie. Just ordered a sharing combo....and as if punishment for ordering fried food it truly was terrible.Sharing platter yet only 1 bries, 1 pepper and 1 pakora with the bulk made up of low cost wedges and onion rings. It's a sharing platter...at least give 2 of everything!Waitress didn't seem to get our issues just saying 'that's the portion'. Cook sent out another go....yet again 1 brie, 1 pepper, 1 pakora! I've managed pubs and I'd have sent several of each if I'd have had this complaint £11.95 total RIP off. 1230 on a Sunday and place was empty and I'm not surprised.Sadly another place we uses to love that has gone to the dogs

A quick stop while exploring the coast. The large beer garden is ideal for social distancing, scattered tables under gazebos and dog friendly. It has the largest fire-pit I've ever seen which I assume is used in the evenings to keep the customers warm. It's a nice old country pub. Great ale. Good coffee. We shared a ploughman's baguette which was very good value and served with the most amazing ?triple cooked? chips. The only thing that needs work; a slightly sullen young lad who is waiting could do with some additional training. Our decision to eat at this establishment was informed by the displayed food hygiene rating of 4/5 (Good).

My partner and a friend walked from Llantwit Major to the lighthouse last weekend and after a couple of hours of wandering we decided we wanted some food and found this beauty on google maps. We had no idea if it was serving food or even open given the current climate, but we were so glad it was! Great choice of food and some nice welsh beers on tap. I had the lasagne (highly recommend) and the other two had the steak and ale pie (full to the brim with tender meat). Definitely will return here when walking around the area again.

Having a table for 7 people available to be booked at 15:30 on a Saturday for 18:30 the same evening should have started the warning bells. No atmosphere or background music. Had to go to bar to order drinks and food.Mediocre food arrived. Requested French Mustard as an accompaniment to the steak but was told they didnt have any. Peas were cold.Went to the bar to pay the bill only to be told they dont accept payment by credit card, only cash or debit card. I should have been informed of this on arrival. On leaving the pub the car park at the far end is very dark and could do with some lighting.Unfortunately wont be returning.

We live three miles away and this is our 1st choice for decent pub grub. We are about to go there again this evening. My wife is vegetarian (I'm normal, ha ha). We are fortunate to be spoilt for choice throughout the Vale, with several very nice gastropubs to choose from. We genuinely enjoy The Horseshoe. We've been going there for years and have never had a bad meal, we also take many of our friends there who live further afield. It's warm and cosy and has a welcoming ambience. I've read one or two dissatisfied reviews but I remain convinced these were posted by professional complainers. You can't please everyone all the time.

Probably the most unfriendliest pub I have been to. The service was diabolical with rude untrained staff. My food was brought to the table and all the chips fell off the plate onto the table which by the way was not even cleaned after the last customers. The waiter just walked away and left my food all over the table with no apology. I asked him to get more chips. He then with his hands picked up the chips and put them on my plate expecting me to eat them. I could not believe it. I then asked him to get clean chips. He walked away and was back within seconds with I assume the same chips. No apology. No table manners. Absolutely shocking.

Location and feel of pub is great, although it could do with some redecoration. Food however, wow....its been a while since Ive had food that bad in a pub. I had the peppercorn chicken, sauce was greasy and the chicken dry. My wife had a sweet potato bake which was just mush. Chips greasy, even the ketchup was a happy shopper special and tasted awful...I wouldnt of minded too much if it wasnt 13 quid for a main!! Such a shame that a pub in a great location like that has such poor food! Would never eat there again, but would return for a pint!

I was walking to the ladies toilets and recognised the difficulties that could arise in kitchen staff leaving with those heavy plates, potentially hitting anybody just behind the door from coming out of the ladies toilets. What a crazy place to have a toilet. Not only this, sitting on the loo I overheard what sounded like the landlady talking about her very own staff. I couldn’t help but feel sorry for them.

Arrived at pub and very quiet as normally only ever been on a Saturday but young girl working on the bar was very miserable and this didn’t give the place a welcoming atmosphere. Food was OK but not as good as the Plough & Harrow for the quality. Burgers were alright but tasted like they were frozen. Also, the beef and ale pie was accompanied by a grilled tomato which an odd accompaniment and would have been better suited being served with a boat of gravy.

On asking to speak to the landlady (lady she wasn't) I was met with further abuse. The landlord was more polite and gave us 10% off the bill reluctantly after my persistence. Very disappointed. The bar was staffed by a young man who we assumed was new and on his first day. He did tell us he had actually been there for five years which was surprising. He didn't seem to know where anything was and had no idea what was on the menu. We were a group of four adults and one child and there was one other couple there at the same time so not exactly a lunch time rush. We ordered one mixed combo starter, a fish dish, two sausages, a children's sausage meal and a duck. The combo for two people sounded delicious...scampi...calamari....jalapeño peppers...pakora...onion rings and potato wedges.... fried Brie. It arrived..... and had lots of wedges and mushrooms, one calamari ring, one piece of Brie, one pepper, no pakora but there were mushrooms. Now common sense tells me that if it's to share you have two of everything. Luckily I was sharing with my daughter and we cut the Brie, calamari and pepper in half. The sauce on the duck was supposed to be cherry brandy and was in all fairness red....but it didn't really have any taste and could have been anything. The two main adult sausage meals were served with charred sausages....,they were literally black. We did mention the black sausages and the landlady I assume did give us a refund of one of the meals. The kids meal was ok and so was the fish and chips. I have to sadly report that the toilets were the worst I visited in ten days. The toilet itself was clean but the floor, skirting boards and door were very dirty. The door doesn't look like the paintwork has been wiped down in fifty years. You could probably have scraped the dirt off with a knife. Really felt like I wanted some antiseptic hand wash. I guess if it's your local you might learn to love it but not somewhere that I would go back to.

Lovely building with outdoor eating area with a fire pit (not sure if it's in use) and a bench swing. Downstairs and upstairs seating. You order at the bar and service is fairly quick. Cheese and onion freebies at the bar were a definite winner after a long hike here from Llantwit Major today (would recommend the walk, it's about 8km)Food prep was very very slow. Which is fine because the atmosphere was quite nice, but after a long hike we really noticed it. It wasn't too busy for a Sunday, but it did take a very long time. Food was too a high standard (not too much, not too little, perfectly presented) with some less-expected fancy specials if you fancy something more special than "pub grub". Stake and Ale pie was great, there are even vegan options too. No table service but the one plus side of that is that nobody bothers you halfway through asking if your meals are okay.My main gripe (aside from slow cooking) was the waitress (long blonde hair). She was really moody and slammed plates on the table and rushed off as quick as she could, spilling some bits. Not sure if she was having a bad day, but it ruined it a bit for us.I would visit again, it's a good pit-stop along the coastal path. No issues whatsoever with the food or venue, just the service at times.

We booked a table for 6pm (booking recommended - especially for 7pm onwards) and it was quiet when we arrived. The pub is nice and traditional. Lovely fire, extensive menu, good beer, friendly staff. Our waiter was a young lad who was faultless. Food was okay, however my burger was a little on the 'herby' side and my husband a little disappointed with this pie as it was more beef stew with a puff pastry hat! Despite this the ambiance and location made up for this and we had such a lovely visit. We would recommend and come back again.

My husband choose this pub after previously going there for mid week lunch. Our Sunday roast was fabulous & our son went for a steak which he said was very nice, the garlic sauce in the mussel starter was to die for. Will definately visit again, nice friendly atmosphere in a small village pub.

Stopped off for a meal on a Sunday night when some other pubs were not serving food. The meal was very nice and food well cooked. A great deal of choice with a large selection of meals on the specials board. The waiter and waitress were very good but the men behind the bar were a little stressed and appeared not that friendly. The food and the atmosphere was good

When we arrived the pub was full to bursting but it was lovely weather so we were able to sit outside. We ordered two main meals, fish and chips and the sweet chilli chicken which came with rice and chips. Both were good sized portions and hit the spot. We had waited a while but as the place was so busy we knew this would be the case so weren't fussed. All in all worth the money and would go back.

The village held a Royal Tea Party which was hosted by Tina and Guy, at the Shoes this weekend. They very generously supplied sandwiches, tea and sausage rolls despite still being open to the public. Unfortunately it poured with rain but that didn't stop over 100 local people enjoying the fun and tea party.Local people supplied the cakes and activities which all helped to raise funds for the village church's roof repairs. This couldn't have taken place without the generosity and huge help of Tina, the landlady.

The pub is very nice inside and the garden is surrounded with wildlife, the meals and the drinks are very expensive. The young lads that served us were very courteous and polite, but the staff that were cooking were quite unprofessional swearing as they went about their work. My wife ordered a Baguette as this would normally be enough for lunch and costing £6.40. It was most disappointing with the baguette being the size of a hot dog roll with 15 chips, certainly not value for money. When the young lad cleared the plate my wife mentioned it to him and he told his manager. she sent him back saying that's the price and that's the portion size. We told him we carry out reviews. The manager eventually came storming out and was very rude to us and told us to carry out as many reviews as we like and the ordered us to leave. This is the first time I've ever been told to leave a pub in 40+ years.I should have realised, the Plough and Harrow was packed and there was only 3 people in the Three horseshoes. You live and learn, and should watch what the locals go.

Tried this pub after a very long walk and 5 hungry walkers. Very good menu and specials board with plenty of vegetarian options. Opted for a vegetarian curry, 3 beef curry and the haddock. Great quality food and portions and the pub itself is a pretty, traditional place would definitely visit again and would recommend the food and service.

Came here Easter Weekend (Saturday). We were at the Plough but due to the long wait decided to make the short walk to the Horseshoe for food. We sat outside and the pub was not very busy. We ordered 2 cheeseburgers. After an hour we enquired to where our food was but gave no reason as to why it hadnt arrived. When it did arrive we asked for additional sauces but the waiter did not return. The food was poor and cheap quality. I have eaten here previously which was to a much higher standard. We left disappointed at the service and the quality of the food. I will not be frequenting this establishment again, will be staying at the Plough in future.

This is an excellent establishment for drinks and food and it has a wide selection of hot and cold dishes available, often with specials highlighted on the board. Used by me and my family occasionally, the inn has never disappointed us and food is great and with real ales available, makes a fine last-minute venue for luncheon. The proximity of Nash Point lighthouse and cliff car park is also an attraction and only about a mile from the Horseshoe Inn but the lighthouse is only open to the public at certain times but a coastal footpath is available and passes through the lighthouse grounds. During the colder weather, two wood-burning stoves are in use which makes the inn a little historic. The inn is also on the 303 Barry-Bridgend 'bus route which has an hourly service so if you don't drive the inn can be visited using public transport. A beer garden is available for better weather visits.

Called in here after a long, blustery walk and found a lovely warm welcome in this cosy traditional pub. Lots of choice on the menu - I had the sweet potato and parsnip bake, someone else had ham, egg and chips, another friend had battered fish and chips. All really good, chips perfect, crisp on outside fluffy on inside. Burger disappointing and slightly strange tasting. Great to have Taffy Apples on draught. Will definitely return and recommend.

This is a lovely pub which serves excellent food from a good range of dishes written on the board. There is a small bar and a lounge. Parking is good and the staff friendly and helpful. In winter, it has a fire and lunch or evening meal are equally good.

I had the friendly. While waiting I chose from their choice of beers experience of my car breaking down at Nash point and there is little or no mobile phone coverage in the area. I walked in a storm to the Horseshoes to ask to use the phone. No problem I was told and the phone handed over.So while i was waiting for breakdown service to arrive I chose one of their beers which was excellent. While not eating I observed others meals and they all looked fresh and tasty.I will visit this pub again and enjoy their food and warm fire.

We should have seen the writing on the wall (quite literally) as we arrived. They still had signage up advertising New Years Eve. we arrived on January 24th!The pub was fairly quiet and in their defence, inside it's actually a lovely, cosy and well decorated country pub.The service left a lot to be desired as we were not offered any menu's and had to share one between three of us, and then go and find somebody that could tell us if they were actually serving sunday lunch, which was not on their menu. The menu itself must have had at least 40 different dishes, with another specials board containing around 20 dishes. This is a big red flag for a kick off. How does a small country pub have over 60 dishes on offer without the majority of it being frozen and not fresh? Our three roast dinners arrived, with a 5 minute wait for the separate veg.The Beef was so overcooked it flaked apart and tasted like old leather, the roast potatoes were burned black and the veg was an assortment of overcooked and unseasoned swede, yellow, overcooked cabbage and carrots. The gravy was good and the Yorkshires freshly made but it couldn't make up for the rest of the plate which was bordering on inedible. To top this off, in true comedy style, when I asked for english mustard a small ramekin with less than a teaspoon of mustard in the bottom was presented to me, and as I looked down on the measly morsel the server warned me to "be careful of the mustard as its very hot" Laugh out loud moment right there! On the positive side, as I said, it's a nice interior and the Ale was also good, just avoid the food.

Well worth a visit superb sunday lunch, sadly as so popular we had a small table near the entrance rather than the large room with the roaring fire hence the four star rating. Sunday lunch came with beautifully prepared side dishes and lots of veggie options if needed. We will definitely return.

Great atmosphere only surpassed by the home cooked food. Great beer too...!Sadly, walking tours are going to the Plough & Harrow down the road due to that pub's past reputation despite that the Plough is now very, very badly run and serves frozen food.

Went for birthday meal we all enjoyed hubbie had the curry and thought it was good. The others had chicken and beef pies they enjoyed too.I had an issue with the cajuan chicken not because there was anything wrong but 4 tiny new potatoes small salad and a small chicken breast should not cost 10.95 come on really????.The others felt the chips were good but small portion.Only other negative was the toilet was in need of updating and a good clean.Probably will not go back as there are other places with better food in the area.
