The Horseshoe Inn in Powys

If we could give the horse shoe inn 5 stars plus, then i would. Friendly and helpful and pleasent , Nia and Paul and there daughter made us so welcome. We are staying for 5 days. Our room is super and the meals are really good. The locals have made us so welcome we enjoyed the evenings It's a oldly worldly inn, with some quirky signs around the walls. Will diffently recommend to others. We have returned this year. Nia and Paul have been decorating the bedrooms and the dining room area it all looks really nice.They are a lovely couple who make you very welcome. Breakfasts and evening meals have good choices and are cooked to perfection. Highly recommended.

Stopped on the way back from Manchester with one of our dogs. Very friendly staff and locals. Super fast service, good food and gorgeous Bailey's cheesecake and good portion sizes.

We went in a group of four without booking and the lady found us a table , and we ordered food which was really good quality, tasty and reasonably priced ✅ highly recommend

We go here at least twice a week. Nia and Paul always make us very welcome. We play pool and eat regularly. The food is home cooked, always piping hot and tasty. As are the Sunday lunches. Highly recommended.

We called in without booking and they were able to squeeze us in for Sunday lunch despite being fully booked already. The food was absolutely superb - perfectly cooked, lovely fresh ingredients, and the service from everyone was impeccable. We may be over 230 miles from home, but we will definitely return when we are next in the area. The car park was full and we can see why!

My husband and l were on a journey from Haverfordwest to Cheshire and stopped for lunch at The Horseshoe Inn at Arddleen for lunch. It was without doubt the best pub lunch l have ever tasted. I had roast turkey with stuffing, pigs in blankets and Allen had pork beef and turkey. All very tasty and served with mash potatoes, roast potatoes, parsnip, carrot, beans and cauliflower and broccoli cheese. Everything cooked to perfection. I followed my main course with the tastiest Irish Cream cheesecake. I consider myself something of a connoisseur of cheesecakes and this was definitely beyond compare! Staff were warm and friendly. Will definitely eat there again and would recommend the place to royalty.

Sunday lunch was gorgeous. Best Sunday lunch ever. All fresh veggies and lovely gravy to accompany the meats and roast potatoes. Desserts were very nice too..

Called on 29/06/23 for food during the afternoon. Food is not served during the afternoon, contrary the information displayed on the Horse Shoe website.

Stayed here for a friend's wedding and felt really welcome, nice clean pub and rooms was also nice and comfy.

We visited midday with our dogs so eat in the bar with option to eat outside. Good selection of good pud food, we had pie, chicken and burger and all really impressed would strongly recommend a visit. We will be back, staff very friendly and well priced

We found this little gem after booking the wrong pub! They managed to fit us in though , a couple very kindly let us have their table in the resturant, the owners made us fell very welcome, we had Sunday lunch which was absolutely delicious! Real farmer Brown pub this and no sports tv, so don't be wanting to have a couple and watch footie. Still friendly and welcoming though.

We had heard that Sunday lunch was popular here, so we managed to book in. All I can say is, it was one of the best Sunday Lunches I have had in a long time. Faultless, Delicious, Homemade and Great Service.

Just got home after a two night stay, everything was spot on, my room was clean & very well presented, breakfast was included and superb with choice of tea or coffee, cereals, full cooked or a combination of both!! We also had an evening meal both nights which again was excellent home cooked food, I'm very happy to recommend the apple & berry crumble as it was the best I've ever tasted! All this combined with hosts that nothing was too much trouble for. Thanks for the stay and good luck for the future.

We had a lovely experience, popped in for something to eat on the way upto Manchester with the family, food was excellent and good value plus very good service and dog friendly.

After travelling over from the south east of England for our holiday, we were all eager and hungry for a delicious Sunday roast! THE HORSE SHOE INN DID NOT DISAPPOINT! Delicious starter, divine main and a delectable dessert. Catered for our bow-wow with trimmings and water and was just over all accommodating on every request. Fabulous proper home cooked food and really good customer service. Catered for 9 of us , all different dishes and it was all freshly prepared and cooked. Good choice on menu too..and the deserts were delicious!!

We only went for a drink. We felt it was a lovely pub but not very welcoming nobody asked if we We wanted to eat . Barmaid quite busy so I suppose that's why . But still didn't feel comfortable my option of course

This is a lovely pub, run by a nice, friendly couple. They serve a good range of beers, and excellent food. I recently had the (lovely, old fashioned) gammon. It's a few hundred metres from the Montgomery canal, an excellent place to start or finish a walk, or include in a canal pub crawl.

We fine here on a regular basis. Nia and her staff are fantastic. Nothing is too much trouble. There is a pool room at the back where we spend many a happy hour. The food is home made and there are always a couple of specials. Everything is always fresh, piping hot and we'll presented. Mackenzie served us tonight and she was attentive and had a good table manner. Anybody wanting a first class home cooked meal would be be pushed to find better. Highly recommend.

Great food and wonderful accomodating hosts

Had the most amazing meal here tonight. We could not fault. The seabass was cooked to perfection with tasty fresh vegetables. True home cooking and the service is excellent. The staff and waitress were wonderful and this place goes over and above to look after you. Thank you all.

Stopped by without booking and were given really warm eel ome although busy. We had the trio Sunday lunch. It was one of the best Sunday lunches we have had in ages. Everything was home cooked and the meat was totally tender. Also good value for money

What a great find! Heading North after a holiday and this is a gem to stumble across. Beautifully homemade meals that are absolutely delicious, with fantastic friendly service. Catered brilliantly for all of the kids and they loved being able to play in the garden while we waited for food as well. The perfect pit stop, thank you so much!

Stopped off on our way to North Wales for a party I had Gammon egg & jacket potato. ( doing slimming world so it suited me ) My husband had Hunters Chicken which he really enjoyed. It was really busy at the time we were there Staff were friendly

We were walking along and saw there was a pub 1 mile down the road. It was 30 degrees and we were really thirsty.

Lovely local pub used by the customers at Trail Riding UK. The staff server great homemade food in a friendly relaxed atmosphere.

We went out as a family of ten and were made extremely welcome straight away. We had a large table in the bar. The menu was lovely,we chose soups,prawn cocktail,pate and mozzarella sticks,all were huge portions and very tasty. Our mains were roast beef,pork,chicken and a cod,when they arrived,the portions again were massive,with the best roast potatoes we've ever had out. With five choices of veg and mashed potatoes too,the meats were amazing and the vegetables fantastic. Now to pudding,all homemade,we had chocolate fudge cake,apple crumble,lemon meringue pie,cheesecake,they were all fabulous. All in all,we had a great meal meal out,well served and hot. Our only wish was we'd visited before. We'll definitely be back,next time with our dog !

absolutely hated this place!! i had to work here for a short period of time and i was mistreated wasn't getting paid my right amount of wages, i have witnessed them drop food on the floor and still force me to serve it to the poor customers the dog was always in the kitchen and so was the dog food. they asked me to clean the counters and they were thick with grease as if they haven't cleaned it in a long time.everything was frozen but wasn't kept in an hygienic way. they told me to clean the inn that wasn't my job to do and even told me to clean their flat part of the pub. they didn't pay me my proper wadge on new years eve and new years day but instead fired me stating that i was always late and wasn't reliable which i was because i always made sure i was their before my shift started. i have been witness to most of these complaints as well and THEY ARE CORRECT they do try and take your deposits!!!!

Fantastic home cooked food with nice drinks and a very friendly, welcoming set of staff. They made us feel right at home allowing us to take over the duke box and the pool table. If ever in the area again, I will be sure to pay a visit!

The horseshoe inn is a lovely local pub with quality food and an amazing selection of beers and gins. All eleven of us ordered different meals and ALL were perfect. The staff were so welcoming, would definitely visit again.

Food was of a great quality and of a good portion size, owners were warm and welcoming and were willing to assist with any of our needs, would definitely visit the horseshoe inn if in and around the area again

11 of us stayed at the Horseshoe for a Stag weekend and had a fantastic time. The owners were lovely and very accommodating, always asking if there's anything we needed and even flexible around the breakfast times after we'd had a heavy night.Food was brilliant, everyone in our group agreed. The accommodation itself was basic, but it got the job done and at the end of the day it allowed for a very relaxed atmosphere. We weren't worried about accidentally breaking expensive luxury fittings, or having to tip toe around.Seen a lot of bad reviews around stag do's on here which were slightly off putting, but all I can say is treat others how you want to be treated. We were respectful and polite whilst having a good time... I think the owners appreciated that and as a result were completely flexible and even offered to keep the bar open a bit later. We had no problem getting our deposit back. Would 100% book again.

I have always had good meals at this pub/restaurant and was looking forward to a Sunday lunch there today. Asked if I wanted a full or small meal I went for the full one expecting it to beat me. When it came unfortunately it was very thin on the ground hardly any meat, no potatoes mash or boiled just a couple of roasters. The price had gone up since my last visit so added to the small portion I was extremely disappointed.

Had our second meal now here and both times lovely home cooked food with generous portions. Made welcome by staff and locals and will definitely visit again. This sort of local rural pub needs to be supported.

My wife and I tried here for the first time on recommendation from friends. The restaurant its self was spotless and the staff very pleasant and friendly. We were served by Robyn who was very polite. My wife had the Salmon fish cakes which she said was full of flavour. I had a beef madras curry and rhe meat was tender and dull of flavour. We will be returning.

The manager needs some customer service skills, was undoubtedly the rudest, arrogant person ever met and should not be running a pub mixing with people, there was 14 on a stag weekend 10 in the barrocks and 4 in a room,the room TV did not work although would have been surprised if it did the way wires were hanging off it and was last pat tested in 2016? There was a £100 deposit but was actually 10 per person so actually 140 and bed upon leaving before the beds were made was asked any broken beds? Strange but low and behold there were two beds , they stated one was already broken, but not the second one (didn't mention this when we arrived) and refused to pay the deposit back, even was very aggressive to one of us who was in the room of 4 in the morning who obviously had no idea what was being talked about, so also lost deposit and wasn't even in the barrocks?!?! Had a great weekend of activities but would not recommend to stay at this place unless the management changes, i will be contacting the activities company about the pub.

On our visit as part of a stag experience weekend, initially the venue seemed ok. We wernt expecting too much, but as said first night was accomodating and staff and owner seemed friendly. My bed was broken and heavilly listing to the walkway and my dad said "you can have the bottom bunk ad i will roll out of that"!!! We didnt report the bed as another in the room was also broken in the same way. Leading into the second day the staff (manager) attitude changed dramatically with a severe arrogance and un helpfull manor. As there was 14 in the party, all married adults (except the stag of corse) and always very polite and not agressive at all under the circumsances of a stag doo!! We treated the pub with upmost respect and the staff involved. On leaving the final day requesting our depisits (paid £10 each =£140, as opposed to the agreed £100 total) leaving it to the last minute as we had a planned activity that day. The first thing the hostess said was "are there any broken beds" and we stated yes the 2 that were already broken on our arrival. She replied "only 1 i forgot to tell you about" we dissagreed politely and wad threatened will "ill call the police" without even asking to see the beds in question. As we were om a tight schedule of activities we as a party agreed its not worth the hassle. Looking back through other reviews this seems to be a scam to keep the depisits one way or another. My advise is to take pictures of evidence or walk through with the hosts to ensure no foul play when leaving. Not very professional and issue handled badly by the pub landlord. Be warned and be carefull if using this facility.

They will take your deposits! apparently we broke a bed, which we didn’t!! it was already broke when we arrived. We didn’t mind not having the deposits back, it was just the way they went about it. We told the owner it was already broke, straight away he said we will call the police! It was as if he already knew, just look through the reviews and you will see it’s a common occurrence. Also the lady who strips the bed sheets said to me I’ll strip your beds now is there any beds broke, why would you say that?? clever way of taking people’s deposits don’t get me wrong.

The food was pretty good, however the good points end there.The sleeping arrangements were akin to a military base - bunk beds crammed into a small room.Our £140 deposit was refused due to a broken bed. The person sleeping in the bed was adamant that it was broken on arrival, and after looking through a few reviews on here it seems that it is a common tactic used by the owner to generate higher profits. We were told they wouldn't charge us for leaving a bottle of water outside the room, which they seemed to think was generousity on their end.The owner is obnoxious, rude, and threatens to call the police at the drop of a hat if you say anything back. He is also often accompanied by the smell of marijuana.We were on a stag and so had low expectations and lower requirements. Even so, I would not recommend this place to anybody in any circumstance.AVOID AT ALL COSTS

Car broken down. This pub was the nearest haven whilst waiting for roadside assistance. Got League of Gentleman treatment from first member of staff I met after using" the facilities", and a lot of staring from obvious locals.

Stayed on a boys weekend. Great location, beer and food. Very good value and would have paid more for nicer rooms. The team couldn't do enough for us.

Our group of 12 made our annual pilgrimage to Arddleen and called into The Horseshoe Inn for a special Xmas dinner on a snowy night in mid Wales. The owner was very welcoming and set us up in a private room complete with Xmas tree, decorations and the soothing sound of Chris Rea playing in the background. The dinner hit the spot as did the puddings (particularly the ice cream), all topped off with a tasty mince pie. We'll definitely be back again next year as Xmas came early this year!

Straight to the point.. Seem friendly all happy with u until you try n get your deposit back when you're home and over 100 mile away took a week of constant calling just to be fobbed off saying they'll sort it eventually that's with us spending about 600 on beer absolute discrace. Rooms are poor with no heating. shower is horrible no heat no power nothing. Food was OK n that's pretty much it and the Guinness was good.

We stayed as part of a stag do package (and chose to stay after the activities had been done at Border Quad Trekking up the road) and had a great time. Our activities finished earlier than we expected (only 2 hrs in total) so spent a pleasant afternoon in the beer garden and then round the pool table enjoying ourselves.

Un gran agradecimiento a todo el personal en el Horseshoe Inn para cuidarnos. Aunque, debe de duro con capacidad para 20 chicos, nunca se quejó, y satisfacía todas nuestras necesidades. Todos estamos planeando otro viaje en el futuro. A todos ¡cuidado!

Aunque vivimos a la vuelta de la esquina, tendemos a comer solamente aquí cuando tenemos huéspedes (aunque nos visita cuando el rugby. . . ).

Visitamos el Horseshoe para una comida de domingo y fue recibida con una calurosa bienvenida del hombre detrás de la barra, que era un buen comienzo. La comida en sí estaba bien - no una gran corte de carne o productos de la mejor calidad, pero sin duda más que suficiente! Probablemente mejor fuera de los domingos, así que volvería en un día diferente para probar algo más.
