Stopped in for lunch while passing by. Didn’t know what to expect. Great atmosphere and view. Good food, fish & chips, and service.

We have been to this restaurant before and have had nice meals however last nights meal was appalling. Our starters of salmon salad and chicken soup were fine, but unfortunately our main meal of haddock and chips was shockingly bad, my fish from first bite were full of bones and after five bites I decided to eat no more, my husband was the same although with less bones, he left half his meal due to the bones and the taste of dirty oil from the batter, Chef, please check your fish for pin bones as these had clearly not been checked and removed. The waitress came over and asked my husband if everything was ok with our meal, and my husband told her how poor the fish was, she apologised and said she would inform the chef Orders for starter and sweets were wrong, and when informed about sweet order she rolled her eyes! Please also clean your tables as ours was sticky, All in all poor dining experience Disappointed

Although the food and service was excellent, the environment was a little under whelming. Tables were a bit sticky and the annoying 80s music playing should have been traditional Scottish as restaurants was full of tourists. Great view for sure. Steak and ale pie, fish and chips and steak frites were all a hit.

Lovely food and great service. Such a beautiful place too. My girls loved exploring the outside. We would definitely visit again.

Whilst staying at Ardsheal lodge we visited Holly tree for dinner. Views ++++ Food and service as good as the view. Highly recommend.

took father in law for his 85th birthday meal as we were staying in the lodges attached to the hotel. menu is smallish but the quality amazing! father in law still raving about his chicken and haggis! and the garlic sauce with the steak was incredible! the staff had a lovely touch putting a candle in father in laws ice cream and singing happy birthday!

Le cadre est idyllique face au loch…en revanche la déco d’une des 2 salles est un peu vieillotte mais compensée par la vue mer (à condition d’être proche des baies vitrées). Service sympathique quelques fois un peu brouillon et assez expéditif (comme bien souvent en pays anglo-saxon). Côté carte : très bon produits bien cuisinés et carte des vins du monde entier très intéressante. Le prix est quand à lui raisonnable pour l’emplacement et la vue. Au passage profitez du jardin pour un dernier verre ou vous promener après le repas.

Delicious dishes with a nice selection available and excellent service by all the table staff. Caters well for gluten free and lactose free requirements. Perfect setting overlooking Loch Linnhe.

The restaurant was a recommendation from our accommodation. The hotel with restaurant is situated on the loch and when the weather is nice you can even sit on the terrace. Inside, everything is glazed with panoramic windows facing the lake. We were served very nicely by a Romanian waiter and were delighted with the food: mussels, salmon, steak, tuna tartare. Because we liked it so much, we booked a room in the hotel there for the next evening and had dinner there again. There was also a good selection at the buffet for breakfast. I would gladly come back any time.

The location is lovely but on the whole our experience wasn't good. One member of staff was friendly but unfortunately the others gave the impression that we were just a transaction. Haddock was overcooked and batter not crispy - felt like it had been kept warm for too long and not freshly cooked. My husband's salmon also looked as if it had been pre-cooked ready for whatever the requested sauce was. White wine was warm.

I had mussels in a cream sauce, and my husband had steak and ale pie. Both were delicious, and we followed up with ice cream topped with a strawberry. Had a nice merlot, too. Put all this together with stunning views across Loch Linhe, and it added up to a very enjoyable lunchtime. The staff were friendly and efficient. Would thoroughly recommend a visit here. Dog friendly, too.

We cycled here from the campsite as it was a lovely afternoon and sat on the terrace in the sunshine and had a lovely refreshing drink. We had hoped to stay for a bar meal but were refused as "food was only being served to residents". At this time 6pm on a Tuesday the bar was quiet, food was being served to residents and us and several other tables of non-residents were sat outside having drink - It astounds me that the hotel would not serve us (or 2 other tables) food. Had this been available we would have stayed for food and more drinks, as it happened we left after just one - seems a very strange way to run a business!

We ordered Scallops and Salmon Fish Cake for starters. Both were good, Scallops a bit gritty and grey. For the mains we had the Sea-bass and Salmon which were both lovely sized portions of the fish and healthy bowl of fresh vegetables the side. We had some beer and wine and sat in the middle of the room with the view of the Loch and not in the sun as much. Staff were helpful we couldn’t leave a tip on a credit card. Cash only tips and we didn’t have any!

Firstly food was phenomenal. The chowder and seafood rendezvous were outstanding. Credit to kitchen staff. Only slight complaint is venue looking tired. Waiting staff weren't too friendly. I visited with my wife and sons during our visit to the area. The restaurant was well adapted for Covid measures and while the view from our table was spectacular the ambience was a wee bit subdued and flat The food was good, with my son’s duck main standing out because of the depth of flavour in the sauce. We had a few evening meals here during our stay in their separate waterfront lodges (disappointing, tired, yet expensive accommodation and not to be confused with the Beach House which is fairly new). The restaurant was fine, the food very good and the views were lovely. If only our stay had not been so let down by our accommodation.

To celebrate our 25th Wedding Anniversary with our children, we chose the Captains Bar at The Holly Tree for our evening dinner. We had a tremendous meal in a beautiful setting, with quality service throughout. We would strongly recommend this restaurant for any occasion.

Having stayed in the hotel before this was our first experience of the self catering accommodation. Stayed in Beach House 3, which was excellent - comfortable with stunning views. Could have done with more shelves and drawers in bedrooms. Dined in the hotel on two occasions, once again the food was of a high standard, the Scallops Thermador were excellent, as was the Rib-eye Steak. We found the staff to be extremely helpful, courteous and efficient, particularly given the restrictions within which they were working. Will certainly be back to enjoy the food and the views.

We ate here for three nights whilst staying at the lodges. Service was excellent and food was lovely. Really have to compliment the chef. My daughter ordered chicken nuggets so they did a double portion of the kids menu which was a huge helping. Real homemade chicken nuggets which I have never seen in a restaurant before. Staff were attentive and everything arrived well presented. Would definitely eat here again. Added bonus of fantastic views across Loch Linnhe.

We had no idea this restaurant was here, but glad we found it . Shown to our table by the window with fab views . I had the seafood rendezvous, it was huge , but only meant for 1 . Oysters, salmon in sauce, white fish, calamari , scallops , mussels and langoustines it was awesome , and good value for the amount of seafood( £25 although we got lucky with eat out to help out, so actually £15) service good . We will definitely come back on our next highland trip .

A family member recommended we visit the holly tree during our stay in the area and I must say it did not disappoint. The Sea Bass was to die for and the apple and cinnamon crepe with ice cream just melted in your mouth. The staff were friendly and attentive, well worth a visit if you are in the area.

Visited on Saturday evening and had picked the place as it was dog friendly. We had booked a table in the Captains Bar and had a window seat looking out over the Loch. If it hadnt been for the lovely scottish weather we would have had great views.We both just ordered a main meal and both were delicious. We ate here while on holiday in nearby Onich. The restaurant has big windows looking out over the loch. Staff followed covid procedures and were very efficient. I had scallops followed by sea bass, all delicious and well cooked and presented. Others had the Barbary duck and the rib eye steak which were also all delicious apparently. Desserts were tasty although I declined. A lovely place for a special occasion.

So we arrived in Fort William , Stopped off at what has to be the best restaurant in Scotland if not the UK, we always call into The Holly Tree on the banks of loch Linnie. The staff are excellent and very attentive, the food is always of a very high standard and well presented without being too ostentatious. We had mussels and salmon salad to start, followed by salmon steak and the chicken and haggis, it was as usual, - fantastic, we are here for only four days but we will be back. The restaurant is housed in the former Kent Allan Station which closed in 1964 as a result of Dr Beeching’s rationalisation plan, it survived for a few years later as a freight line , but eventually closed in 1968. It’s been well preserved, and still exudes a lot of its original charm. Highly recommended, well worth a visit.

We enjoyed a lovely meal of Scallops and Salmon fish cake followed by Barbary Duck & Black Pudding, ribeye steak and Sea bass. All delicious and staff polite and efficient and adhering to Covid-19 rules. The dining room overlooks the loch so a beautiful view as well.

We came here for dinner recently one evening as a party of four and enjoyed the view of sunset over the loch. We ordered steak, seafood rendezvous, mussels, and salmon. The seafood dishes went down exceptionally well - the mussels were delicious and the portions were huge. The steak came with a garlic and herb butter sauce which had unfortunately split and was not very appetising. The steak came with potatoes and vegetables and we also ordered more on the side which were all served together in one large bowl which did not seem like a very generous portion but it was hard to say. We also had the sticky toffee pudding and ice cream for dessert which were fine. Overall, good enough.

After arriving at our campsite earlier in the day we wanted to dine locally, we spotted this restaurant on our journey and got a booking for that evening. On arrival, the customary hand sanitizer was available, all staff wearing masks, we both felt safe, clean, comfortable and reassured. Seated before our allotted time, served promptly, attentive staff. Excellent food, we were in the restaurant but you could eat from the bar menu also. You can sit indoors or out. Beautiful views over loch and watch the sunset too. 10/10

We had a delightful dinner in the restaurant. The waiter was most amiable and very attentive. The mussels were sublime, and the portion was absolutely gigantic. The view over the mountains on a beautifully sunny evening provided excellent entertainment throughout the night. Would thoroughly recommend!

La cuisine est très bonne et très copieuse. Le service est très agréable et la vue superbe. J’ai testé le salmon cake mais c’est en faite une boulette frite délicieuse avec saumon et pomme de terre dedans. Mon chéri a pris le chicken liver paté qui était également très bon et nous avons pris du Haggis pour rester local. Tout était top. Seul bémol une décoration qui manque un peu de fraîcheur.

Hotel and restaurant with ideal location on Lock Linnhe south of Ballachulish. Good menu with some excellent dishes. Ample parking and ideal for a meal looking out over the Loch. Friendly staff and reasonable variety of choice - but high standard of food. Highly recommended.

we had stayed at hollytree some 3 years past and on our return visit found yet again nothing but positives.staff all well mannered and smart accommodation perfect and serviced to a high standard by isa who was very friendly and interesting.the food also enjoyable I found the smoked haddock chowder to be very filling to the point that I could not manage a main fully. we were aware of the setting and beautiful views from our previous visit and again were treated to the added bonus of nice weather to enjoy the scenerywill be back in the future for sureone minus point hot plates please it is my pet hate and I experience it a lot even in 5 star hotels around the world.keep up your high standards till next time thanks again.

We arrived a bit late for lunch but the staff were very welcoming and friendly. I had excellent bowl of fresh mussels and our group were also very pleased with their food. What a pleasure to have such excellent people on the staff who know how to look after customers.We look forward to our next visit.

The room was bright and spacious with a balcony.the view from the room was out of this world. So beautiful. The restaurant and food were excellent and the staff were so attentive and friendly. We visited this restaurant whilst staying at the hotel. On both nights we were given a window seat which had a fantastic view of the loch. It was just a lovely experience - the food was brilliant, I loved everything I had and will definitely go again.

This place is very overrated - it’s in a really scenic but the food is terrible. We ordered the salmon (bland steamed) and venison (terrible rubber). The venison sauce was this sweet brown cranberry sauce the the salmon is cooked like in any Scottish university cafeteria - only way to save it is with heaps of salt and pepper.

From the moment we entered this restaurant we were greeted with a friendly smile and led to our table, which had a great view of Loch Linnhe. Service was very efficient and the food was of a very high standard. It represented good value for money and the whole experience was worthy of 5 Stars.

A really friendly restaurant. We chose it because it was local to where we were staying and dogs were allowed. The fish was fresh and delicious.

We decided to revisit after enjoying a lovely (booked) meal two nights earlier, this time we had not booked and arrived at the restaurant which had many spare unocupied tables. We asked about having a meal and were advised that we would have to wait till 8pm as they were expecting a party of 7 people at 7,30pm ( This is a large restaurant!) We agreed to wait till 8pm and sat in the bar area where the bar manager was working in close proximity to us. We saw and heard a family arrive at 7,30pm who said they also hadnt booked - they were given a table promptly. We waited patiently and at 8.07pm we still hadnt been approached - there were many unoccupied tables! We left the establishment with no contact from any of the staff on leaving. Very disappointing service!

The location overlooking the loch is amazing. The choice of restaurant and bar menus in the bar area gives the best of both options.
