The Hoebridge in Scottish Borders

We had an awesome dinner at The Hoebridge. The dishes were delicious and executed with finesse and style. The service and atmosphere are relaxed but on point, and the dining room is paired back and cosy. As we were both not drinking we had excellent non-alcoholic cocktails. The dessert we had was simply amazing, a chocolate, hazelnut and salted caramel triumph. We will definitely be back again as it's simply the best in the area.

Such an intimate, cozy place with a beautiful love story behind it, which you can instantly feel upon entering the establishment. Hoebridge is well worth a visit if you’re in the borders, as you can feel there is a labour of passion behind this little jewel of a restaurant. Service, drinks, and decoration were beyond expectations! The staff instantly make you feel like you’re part of their family, and the atmosphere is warm and calming. In my opinion, the food wasn’t the best use of Scottish produce I found in the area as I feel a lot of raw taste of the ingredients were masked by superfluous condiments, but it was still delicious and distinguishes itself from the majority of restaurants around. I highly encourage a visit to the Hoebridge restaurant if you want to make a beautiful memory and feel good! Bravo for all the work you’ve put in to the restaurant!

The atmosphere and service at this restaurant were excellent. The host went out of his way to make sure all our needs were taken care of, even going so far as to offering a second steak because he wasn't sure the first one was done correctly. The restaurant itself had a lovely atmosphere and the background music was superb and very conducive to dining.

If you find yourself in Melrose, definitely try to get into The Hoebridge. Excellent food (especially the scallops!!!) The service and attention to detail is excellent. Kyle is a gem of a host, so just go there, enjoy, and be happy!

This is an excellent place for a meal. The food is exceptional, the staff are charming, the atmosphere is welcoming. This is our second visit and we will be back again when next in the area. Best of luck for the future.

We booked the Hoebridge for our wedding rehearsal dinner, with private room and preset menu. Coordinating with Kyle was easy, even video calling us as we were planning for the event remotely. And better yet the food, drinks, and service were amazing. Not to mention the space is absolutely beautiful.

Lovely dinner, a la Hamish and most Gracious host, Kyle made for a particularly memorable evening. Turns out Kyle's from the Midwest so he carried that all-too-rare "Midwestern Nice" with him across to Scotland. If you have the fortune to dine here, do not pass it up. Food, service, decor all top notch!!

We had our Rehearsal Dinner for a big group in this amazing venue this past month (July 22). What’s beautiful experience at The Hoebridge. Hoebridge never disappoints! I’ve been coming to this fabulous restaurant for eight years, whenever I’m in the region. The monthly menu always has something that strikes your fancy (the fresh pasta with ragu is one of my fabulous meals I’ve eaten)! The staff is lovely, and co-owner and host Kyle always welcomes you with a kind word and a smile. Must visit when in the boarders.

This is probably one of the best restaurants in the Borders from first to last excellent service and the food was brilliant 👏 for me praising a steak would never happen but the one I have just eaten was the best ever if you like food and wine try this place it will not disappoint

Exceptional food. This was our first time dining at Hoebridge but it will not be our last. We arrived early and had cocktails at the bar, both were excellent. We had starters and mains each and we were both delighted with both the food and the service. If you are in the Melrose or Gattonside area then it's worth trying to see if a table is available, preferably book in advance. It will be worth it.

After e.mailing about my 86yr old mum wanting to celebrate whist visiting the are , the staff went all out to make her experience very special. The food is absolutely fabulous and the and service is outstanding , friendly and we Highly recommend a visit..

Absolutely fabulous, from start to end. Very friendly and attentive staff with one of the co-owners showing interest and charm whilst running a fantastic front of house. Very chic minimalist interior in whites and greys, with beautiful wild flowers the only adornment other than smart tableware. Food was wonderful, great flavours and interesting combinations, without being too experimental. One of the best places we’ve ever eaten at. Do go!

Delicious food in a comfortable and well designed restaurant. Lovely staff. Only dropped a star due to a slightly salty bernaise sauce, which we fed back to the kitchen.

The Hoebridge was a fantastic dinner. The food was inventive and clearly picked with care. Beautiful and intimate setting with a flair of Nordic decor. The staff were lovely, conversational and care free. Well worth the trip from Edinburgh to spent a lovely evening with loved ones.

We absolutely loved our trip to the Hoebridge, we visited with our little whippet for a special meal whilst on holiday in the Borders. We travelled from Innerleithen on a wet, blustering October evening and it was well worth the journey. The warmest of warm welcomes from the lovely Maitre D, the beautiful smell of candles and flowers were followed by a lovely table and wonderful choice of drinks, Our table was perfect for a quite place for our pup to sleep too. The menu was a fantastic range of local, seasonable food and everything we had was well curated, beautifully presented and seasoned and a delight to eat. Flavours and textures to remember! I’m a pescatarian and there was plenty for me to choose from on the menu. We wil be back.

In the early 80's in London, Antonio Carluccio introduced me to clams, since when I have never tasted their equal. Tonight the Hoebridge eclipsed this dish with a simple explosion of taste. Hamish, tonight you excelled yourself, right down to that wonderful walnut tart.... exceptional

We were very lucky to find such an excellent and friendly place to have lunch on the Tweed at Gattonside. A very appealing small garden area adjoins a warm, welcoming dining room. Our meal was delicious! Top class food and staff. Highly recommend.

Absolutely brilliant. The food was top notch-original combinations of flavours, beautifully presented and cooked to perfection. The service was great, the ambience very congenial and nicely designed and an excellent selection of wines.

I highly recommend this restaurant. The atmosphere and decor are amazing and the food very inventive and tasty. The staff is welcoming and professional. I would particularly recommend walking from Melrose to the restaurant and crossing the bridge.

Having enjoyed a lovely meal last Saturday, I was really upset when I realised that I had lost a very special bracelet. However I need not have worried Kyle could not have been more helpful when I contacted the restaurant not only did he spend time hunting for the bracelet but as soon as he found it he got back to me to reassure me and immediately offered to post it out to me.

Excellent service very friendly host. The food was stunning, enjoyed the cod dish husband recommends the duck. Very quiet the night we attended , would maybe suggest turning the lights up slightly dark. Would highly recommend it busting nearby Melrose .

Myself and my partner have been here numerous times now and each time the food is exceptional. Hands down some of the best food we have ever eaten. The chef is truly talented and the monthly change in menu is always a great reason to go back. From the minute you walk in you are made to feel so welcome, the staff remember and show interest in you. Front of house Kyle always has a welcoming smile, is friendly and very knowledgeable about the menu. Highly recommended. 5 starts just doesn’t seem enough.

We simply could not fault the food or the service. This was one of the best meals we have had when eating out for a long long time, indeed One of our party felt that the shoulder of pork was probably the best meal they had ever had when dining out. Having tasted it I can see why he was saying that. The steaks were sublime, well cooked full of flavour and well presented. Brilliant all round we can not praise the establishment highly enough.

Great food, great service,lovey place. Will defo be returning to try some of those cocktails. Only downside was the huge vase of lillies on the bar (i am allergic to them).

This was a monthly haunt for friends and I when we lived at the borders. We've all sadly moved away but still enjoy making the round trip to come back when able. Great atmosphere, welcoming staff and excellent food. They're always willing to accommodate my mocktail requests and trial making them if not on the menu. Just tried their November menu and the walnut and pecan tart is highly recommended. Only mild criticism would be their generous portions. Look forward to our next visit.

This was my first visit to The Hoebridge and I was not disappointed. The food was of a very high standard and the service was great. I had the scallops for starter and the duck for main. Both were delicious.

What a lovely restaurant, lovely greeting on arrival, efficient and friendly staff. The meal was delicious and full of flavour, I had the Confit Duck and husband the steak, said it was one of the best he’s had in a long while. Puddings were also delicious. Really good value for money. I would definitely recommend a visit if you live or visit the Borders.

I’ve just organised a large retirement dinner at the Hoebridge. The staff were excellent throughout in both the planning and on the night, and it was a first class event. There is an interesting fresh menu, new every month, and the food was delicious. Highly recommended.

Its not often we get the opportunity to dine out and when we do we are far too often disappointed. At last an exception! The Hoebridge is everything you'd wish for in a destination. The restaurant is elegant and tasteful, the welcome warm and genuine , the service friendly and efficient and the food delicious. Bravo! We will be back..

We recently visited The Hoebridge as a group with our friends. Although the restaurant was busy, following drinks in the bar we were seated in the private conservatory area. Kyle and his team were very attentive and orders taken we didn’t have to wait long for our food to arrive. A starter of burrata, Parma ham and peach followed by a lamb main were very tasty. I finished the meal with a homemade warm crumble/ fruit tart which I very much enjoyed and a coffee. A great night in great company.

We came to this restaurant with high hopes, and tried to come in later, but were told there were no tables available and we had to be there at 6:30 PM. We got tyhem to stretch it to 6:45, and we got there to be greeted by a virtually empty room.

Our first visit to this restaurant and it was excellent. The flavour and simplify of the food was outstanding. Arguably one of the best steaks I have eaten and and the langoustine and cockle starter was divine. We will return

Lovely food. Not a huge menu but very good. A bit pretentious in style but attentive staff. Good wine. Enjoyed the meal.

We arrived early at 1830 and were warmly greeted by the owner. Having been offered the choice of sitting in the conservatory or dining room we opted for the whitewashed cosy dining room. The menu changes on a monthly basis. For starters we had clams and grilled langoustines in a delicious broth.

Attractive whitewashed bar and restaurant tucked away down a Gattonside lane not far from the Tweed footbridge. Parking very limited on site, but it's an easy 200 yard walk from the nearby main street.

We enjoyed a lovely meal with good service at the Hoebridge. It was very busy but every effort was made to ensure everyone was happy and we were....We would definitely go back.

My wife and I have dined at The Hoebridge twice ( October 2018 and March of this year) whilst house hunting in the area. Hoebridge is owned and run by a very nice couple, Kyle is a very visible presence front of house and behind the bar. We enjoyed cocktails in the bar both before and after our meal. Our meals on both occasions were superbly presented and full of different flavours.There is pretty extensive wine list which we believe should suit everybody's tastes. We will certainly visit The Hoebridge again when we return to continue our house search.

Nothing I can fault about this little gem. The staff are so helpful and friendly, the atmosphere is perfect and the food is incredible! I would without a doubt recommend The Hoebridge for any occasion! The cocktails and drinks on offer are vast and are always made brilliantly! My favourite place for food and drinks. Can’t wait to visit again soon!

Slow service but friendly staff.

We have been holidaying in the borders for over 20 years. We visited the Hoebridge last year but only for a pre-dinner drink as we were already booked in to a restaurant elsewhere. The staff are most welcoming, knowledgeable and attentive. The food was quite exceptional and strongly recommend a visit.

Many years dining in the Borders brought us back to the Hoebridge for dinner after popping in for drinks last year (2018).

If you are ever in this part of the world a visit to The Hoebridge is a must. I only book my stays in the area if I can get a reservation. Food and staff are delightful. Owners put your enjoyment at their forefront. They are very accommodating and ensure a great time is had by all. Menu choices are always in season and very well thought about - amazing food and great cocktails. It’s nice to sit in the bar before being seated for your meal. Really lovely atmosphere and a nice place for a special occasion.

We had our second visit to the Hoebridge at the weekend and once again it was excellent, such a pretty place with lovely atmosphere.

I have wanted to visit the Hoebridge for some time and a friend suggested we met there for supper. I was very pleased with the whole experience. The service was excellent as were the pre-dinner cocktails and the steak was cooked expertly. Quite a find.

A hidden gem!! Everything is superb, from kyle’s warm welcome, to the aperitifs, food, ambience and charm. I can’t wait to go back!

We’ve been on numerous occasions and this time took Australian visitors who had been travelling around Scotland golfing. Our evening was perfect and they commented that “it was the best meal they’d had since visiting Scotland”. Every time we’ve been the welcome, food and service has been first class and the front of house team are always very helpful. I’ve seen that same welcome extended to tourists many times too.

Fabulous restaurant.... Wonderful atmosphere, enthusiastic attentive service, beautifully decorated and most importantly an inventive and seasonal menu. 💯 % in all respects.

We called into the Hoebridge Inn when we are out walking on a Saturday evening and asked if we could have a table for two people but were told we could have a table outside for a drink but, alas, no food!! We were really disappointed! We hadn't booked but as we were tourists, we thought they might have tried to accommodate us. Also, we had to wait 15 minutes for our drinks to be served as we waited outside. This was the only negative experience for us on our 4-day trip around this beautiful area.

We had a wonderful meal . We asked for help with IBS and really appreciated the attention to detail when we received a hand written annotated menu. Everything was lovely and we shall definitively go back for more.

Walking the Southern Upland Way so a last minute booking as it fitted plans to stay one night in Melrose. Lovely walk from there across the chain bridge was rewarded with a most excellent evening. Friendly and welcoming staff, lovely ambience and excellent food. Could not fault anything - definitely finished on a high when we both chose the chocolate mousse with passion fruit sorbet as a dessert - a real treat! Highly recommended.

I've been wanting to try this ever since I came out of nearby Season's somewhat disappointed. This is in a beautiful location, and great brunch menu- for Mothers day, Easter and Bank Holidays- always gets booked up quick. Lovely attentive service and very welcoming. The place itself is very well laid out and great decor- Good overall menu and fresh, local produce. Brunch was with the Man and Mother, and included great espresso martini's, mimosa's , eggs benedict, full breakfasts and american biscuits and chicken. Will be very interested to go back and try a proper menu- highly recommended and looking forward to returning,.

Fantastic restaurant with an understated menu. Food was delicious and service very friendly and attentive. We both enjoyed our meals and wine surrounded by regulars which is always a good thing to hear - people come back each month as the new menu comes on. You can get onto their mailing list and you will receive their menu as it comes out... yum yum. Just wish we lived closer as it is a night away for us.... perhaps we should move!!
