The Hive in Ceredigion

The Hive has always been a great location, especially for ice cream, but our dinner last night was amazing - fantastic food, generous portions, friendly and efficient staff and a great atmosphere. It’s really good value and the menu is varied and true quality. Definitely recommended.

called in on Sunday looking for a spot of lunch, sunday, sunday lunch menu only when we called in exactly what we were looking for, it did not disappoint at all. We sat in the bar area so that we could still people watch, great atmosphere, staff very friendly, the lunch was amazing both in flavour, cooking skill and quantity. We had a beef brisket and a pork lunch .. both came with extra gravy and side of cauliflower cheese. Vegs cooked perfectly and the potatoes (both mash and roast) all had great flavour and both meats cooked just right for both of us .. Was tempted by the pineapple desert on the menu but couldn't fit it in. We have a place close to LLanarth and have not visited the Hive previously but will definitely be visiting more frequently if the lunch is anything to go by !!! highly recommend and have added the recommendation to our guest visitors book ...

Fabulous ice cream and coffee. Sadly had to sit outside as away with our pooch. Luckily the weather was fab, we'd have been sad of it wasn't.

Just spent two nights in the Vulcan room as a valentines treat so can honestly say that the Hive Townhouse is indeed a real treat! On arrival you just ring the bell and and you’re instantly greeted by a very friendly, chatty and informative member of staff who takes you to your room. On entering, the first thing you notice is a beautiful, warm and homely room, made so by the sound of the radio softly playing in the background, such a lovely welcome! We were given all the information needed and left to enjoy, and wow, didn’t we just! There’s been no expense spared in the recent renovations of the hotel and they’ve thought of absolutely everything! No problem here if you forget your toothbrush! You’re treated to complimentary treats and snacks from the mini bar, which I will add, are refilled daily and you’re also given a token that can be exchanged for one of the Hives famous ice creams during your stay! Did I mention the copper, stand alone bath in the bedroom?! 🥰 The bed itself and the pillows are so comfy you really don’t want to get up in the morning but you must, only to enjoy the excellent breakfast that’s served just across the road in the Hive restaurant. We also had a late lunch in the restaurant which was also delicious and the staff are just lovely! Although the Hotel doesn’t have parking, you can easily park in a nearby car park which was absolutely fine and only costs £4.60 for 24hrs. I’d definitely recommend the Hotel, the restaurant and Aberaeron and can’t wait for a return visit!

Really good tasty lunch with something for everyone. Reasonably priced and the ice cream with honey was pretty tasty too!

"Popped" in for lunch on Sunday looking for a light meal but ended up ordering the pork belly Sunday lunch. Good choice! Everything on the plate was correctly cooked and delicious.

Great menu, always something to suit every pallet. Excellent service with a good friendly atmosphere. Great place for a party get together. A must place to eat out.

Not a huge menu but good portions, reasonable price and very tasty. Nice decor but lighting too low, had to use phone torch to read menu

On a really cold day we nipped in here the young girl was lovely behind the bar and I asked for a hot chocolate asking if they had cream etc she said yes andbi could put marshmallow in too I said that sounded great when it arrived it looked and tasted great,plus it was a lovely place to sit they had a roaring log burner going too all very nicex

Haven't had food yet but it looks nice and plenty of it. Only had a drink in the beer garden every time we go to Aberaeron and the icecream is good aswell

We had a fantastic meal, with good portions - alas I couldn't quite finish mine. I really enjoyed my halloumi flatbread and sweet potato fries.

We’re locals and have been coming to the Hive for a few years. Last here about 6 months ago and food was excellent. However, here we are in September 23 and what has happened???? I ordered fish n chips -what I received was shocking. A portion of fish not much larger than a fish finger…served on a tea plate. Chips not included, they had to be paid for separately. No idea what the green purée was on the plate but it was awful. Son asked for a burger without lettuce or tomato ( dietary requirements) but his wishes were ignored and it came with lettuce and tomatoes which he ended up removing himself!!!!!. Another guest had to send his burger back because the ‘whipped goats cheese’ was so runny it had made the burger soggy. The number of empty tables on a Saturday Night spoke volumes. This place used to be so busy. No idea if there is a new chef, new owners or what but the menu is not brilliant and definitely we felt ripped off. We were so disappointed and it’s not a place we will be returning to unless it gives itself a shake up and returns to the excellent establishment it was before. At the moment, it’s fine if you just want a drink but if you want a good dining experience, try elsewhere! Food was just awful and overpriced

We enjoyed the roast Sunday lunch where we choose turkey with all the trimmings. Unlike other gastropubs where there's often a focus on the meat (which was excellent) and not much else, it had everything (carrots, cauliflower cheese, parnips, greens, roast potatoes, pigs in blanket, mash, stuffing) everything perfectly cooked and in sensible portions so you could enjoy it all, all at a very reasonable price.

Had a nice latte here, tasted good, not bitter, so they know how to make coffee 👏

Grandkids loved the ice-cream selection,we had lunch a few times and it was delicious.

Great buzz here, very friendly and welcoming place and it seemed like the place to be. Definitely the hub of local gatherings. Lovely atmosphere and the coffee was superb. We'll be back

High quality food and the prices were OK. I would not want to pay more for what I got. I would have liked the burgers, and especially the chips, to be hotter temperature-wise, maybe faster delivery from when it comes out of the pan would help. The parmesan on the chips could've been melted more, perhaps roast the chips a little with the cheese on top. The positives: delicious burgers! Yes, both the chicken and the beef ones were great and accorded with the menu description in terms of flavour from the seasoning. I particularly enjoyed the lime in the chicken burger. I perhaps felt the chicken burger could be priced a bit cheaper than the beef burger as it contained less meat. Both were £13. The sides are a little pricey but excellent quality. I enjoyed the crispy chips with rosemary and parmesan for £6.50. Some confirmation that the chips are hand cut would be assuring, as I'd expect this at this price. The milkshake was very good for £5 each, both quantity and quality, if a little thin - perhaps a little more ice-cream? They use their famous honey ice-cream inside it, which I could taste. Lattes were very good and made extra hot as requested. All in all a fine meal and pleasant quieter environment with lots of natural lighting and space between tables to enjoy your meal.

Most unwelcoming, after our order had been taken we were told with no apology that we'd have to be out quickly as they were closing, no "sorry" or "please". The sign on the door said it closed at 4 and we were there at 3.30. Definitely not going back.

Didn’t get in the door. Don’t mind it being “full”, but the attitude of staff left a bad taste in the mouth.

I visit with my cousin once a month for brunch and to put the world to right! We luv it here, relaxed atmosphere, friendly staff and great food.

A lovely restaurant in a beautiful spot in Aberaeron. Staff were friendly and efficient and our meals - both open flatbreads with stonkingly fresh mackerel and spot-on spiced lamb koftas - were fair priced and utterly delicious. The chef certainly has a talent. We're looking forward to returning to the area and having dinner at The Hive is already on our list. Lovely.

This has to be the biggest rip off ever! I ordered fish n chips. Was told I had to order the chips as a side ( hmmm ok but very odd) Fish arrived … on a tea plate! It was only slightly larger than a fish finger. It was shocking!!!! There was a green purée on the plate with a slice of lemon. No idea what it was but it tasted dreadful! Had I not ordered the chips there would have been two mouthfuls of fish as a main meal. I cannot recommend the Hive as a place to eat. The staff couldnt be bothered, the service was slow and it’s the worst meal I’ve ever eaten. Total rip off and won’t be going back.

Food was delicious best butter milk burger and desserts were amazing ... Sandy the waitress was very good and even came back before she left her shift to say bye an check that we enjoyed the desserts deffo worth a visit !!!

Visited twice in the week we were staying locally. An interesting menu, lovely atmosphere and outdoor seating area and great, friendly service both times. Would definitely recommend.

Visited today with my partner for lunch we sat outside and enjoyed the weather. We both went for the flatbreads, I chose the lamb flatbread and my partner had the halloumi flatbread. Both were full of flavour! Really hit the spot👌 friendly staff and nice views. A good menu to choose from as well! Would definitely recommend

Awful service!! Arrived at 11:17 (was given breakfast menus) breakfast served until 11:30. Repeatedly asked to order & was told they’d ‘send someone out’ 11:35 a waiter finally came over & said kitchen is closed for breakfast!!! Sent us away hungry & all other restaurants only served until 11:30 also so they ruined our chances of breakfast after an hours walk & arriving in time to order if they’d only taken our order!

Stopped off for an ice cream because they looked amazing. Disappointed with the flavours, had two scoops of two very different flavours but they both just tasted the same. The staff were miserable, wouldn’t hurt to put a smile on their faces.

Ce restaurant est une belle découverte. Trouvé par hasard sur le chemin nous conduisant vers le pembrokeshire. Accueil courtois qui donne envie de s'asseoir. Plats copieux et de qualité, nous avons sélectionné les pokebowls avec le poulet frit. Les glaces en dessert sont pas mal non plus d'après mon fils. Je conseille donc un arrêt au Hive si on est de passage dans la région.

Really poor service. Lots of youngsters serving, intent on talking amongst themselves rather than seeing what was needed. We gave up on dessert and left.

We have heard so much about the honey ice cream from the hive in Aberaeron so our expectations were very high! Today we finally managed a visit.. We were served from the outside servery by a friendly staff member, we were served promptly and paid an average price for a high quality ice cream. We had the Turkish delight which was the most bizarre experience! A Turkish delight and honey flavour both very clearly defined. Lovely will definitely have again!

Table for 10 on the Sunday night of the busiest w/e of the year ... great service, impressive new menu and the food was excellent.

Dog friendly outside which was cold, food was lovely but to pay £5 extra for a small bowl of chips to eat with your burger seems a rip off. Meals should come with options of potatoes and veg

Great location and staff but the pricing is shocking! Frozen veg burger without chips for £12! No chips! They'd run out of the cheaper beer too! Kids portions were good. It's all about the money honey - and that's not a good thing 😔

The atmosphere inside looked great but we were outside due to having a dog and there was no atmosphere at all

The food at The Hive was very good. It was just a shame we could not see it. As a dog owner we had to sit outside. Our table was booked for 7.30 and I collected the menus from inside as we had to take the dog through the back gate. We felt that the service was not very attentive and slow. By the end of the meal it was dark and I had to use a flashlight to see what I was eating. The staff were getting ready to close so I collected the bill myself from the bar.

The breakfast was delicious. We didn’t leave a bit. Tasty and well cooked. The service was great too. Also recommend their coffees and ice cream, made with honey! Delicious.

My recent dining experience at The Hive Restaurant in Aberaeron left much to be desired. Despite the promising reviews I had heard, I found the overall visit to be underwhelming and far from the exceptional dining experience I had anticipated. First and foremost, the ambiance of the restaurant was somewhat lackluster. The decor felt outdated and uninspired, which immediately set a disappointing tone for the evening. It lacked the cozy and inviting atmosphere that one would expect from a restaurant in a charming coastal town like Aberaeron. The menu boasted an array of options that seemed enticing, but the execution fell short. The presentation of the dishes was adequate, but the flavors were mediocre at best. It was evident that the kitchen was aiming for a fusion of different cuisines, but the result was a muddled and confused combination that failed to deliver on any particular culinary front. Service was another major letdown. The staff appeared disorganized and overwhelmed, leading to lengthy waits and confusion over orders. The lack of attentiveness and genuine interest in ensuring a positive dining experience was palpable, leaving me feeling like just another table to turn over. Furthermore, the pricing was simply unjustifiable for the quality of the meal and service provided. It felt like The Hive was attempting to position itself as a high-end establishment, but the reality was far from it. I expected value for my money, but unfortunately, I left the restaurant feeling like I had overpaid for a subpar meal.

Ice-cream was so-so, tasted a bit off, not sure if that was the honey but wasn't keen. Found staff a little ignorant, part way through ordering we were impolitely told that they were serving someone else who appeared from the side of us and wasn't waiting in the queue.

Make a bee-line (geddit?) for this place. So accommodating and nothing was too much trouble. Food was tasty and substantial. Ice cream as desert following birthday breakfast! Indulgent or what. All the ice creams appear to have honey as an ingredient, and you could certainly taste it in my coconut. Gorgeous. Excuse me for waxing lyrical about it! (😜)

Top notch lunch. Food was utterly delicious. Sat outside with the dog, service was very friendly but sometimes got a bit forgotten. Look forward to going back next time we're in the area. Outside seating area felt a little unloved.

Popped in for lunch. Had a delicious open flat bread with halloumi, hummus, salad and pomegranate. The food was really well made, delicious and arrived quickly. Very well worth a trip to this lovely restaurant.

Just called for coffee as it was pouring with rain. The Hive was very busy with most tables occupied. Service was good and the coffee was excellent. Well worth a visit.

Last time we were in Aberaeron we attempted to book for dinner at The Hive but it was full. We ate in another restaurant in town but weren't impressed. This time we called in for a coffee which was very pleasant so booked for dinner...

Lovely food. Excellent service. Pleasant ambience. Had the moules mariniere. A good portion. Husband had a burger. Looked amazing.

The food was great and their ice cream is really, really good. They had HPA on draft which is a favourite of mine. So will be going back next time we're in the area.

Lovely meal here - the Risk It burger was bang-on, and the honey ice-cream was delicious too. The staff were very friendly and accommodating, as well as fitting us in despite not having booked. Be a bit wary of sitting outside when the gulls are about - they are crafty af and will try their luck if your back is turned for more than a second 😂 Recommend 👍🏼

The ice cream is really made with honey and tastes lovely. I have tried the Turkish delight and the honeycomb. There was a misunderstanding on choosing lemon and passion fruit, but I did not realise that was with yoghurt when I tried to say they wanted me to pay it again. Which I did not. The waiters did not that I was there to review. The surroundings are amazing, worth it a visit

One of my fondest childhood memories of Welsh holidays in the 1970s was the honey ice-cream. This has been proving surprisingly difficult to source, now that I am back. I thought that the Hive honey ice-cream man would surely be able to help me. Sadly...

It is seldom that we both find the meal we ordered impossible to finish, but this was unfortunately the case. The classic burger but everything but classic. Tasted off as if it had been defrosted a number of times. The vegetarian burger was equally bad....

Great food in a lovely location. We sat outside as the weather was nice and we could see the harbour and estuary, but there were gulls and wasps who also wanted our food. There were plenty of tables inside but it did feel quite warm...

Popped in for lunch with my daughter. Possibly the loveliest service we have ever experienced. Served by a relatively young staff whose standards were impeccable. Thank you. We shalll be back soon.

Possibly the best service we’ve ever experienced. ‘Nothing is too much trouble’ is truly a cliche that applies here! A young, enthusiastic and clearly experienced team. Very accommodating of my mums dietary requests and my moules were impeccable!!

Fantastic place for breakfast, lunch or dinner. We went for dinner my husband had the moules marienere to start I had the lemon and thyme chicken kebabs both were plentiful and delicious. We both had burgers served with seasoned fries and homemade slaw hubby had...

Generous portions of delicious ice cream.

Just shovelled down the butter chicken curry, delicious. Hot, fresh and extremely tasty. Staff all very attentive despite it being busy. Stop by here if you can, you won't be disappointed!

Here early evening whilst on holiday with the family. We're brilliant with our 2 year old grandson. View stunning. Food very tasty. Ice cream delicious.

Food would have been amazing if our chips weren't cold. Pre booked our meals and still waited more than a half hour for the food to arrive

We stayed in Aberaeron for a week and ate here 3 times as it was so good on our first visit. Mussels and sea bass were our favourites. Staff very good. Lovely sitting outside on a sunny day or in the airy conservatory if rain. We had our baby with us early evening and the staff were very accommodating

Unfortunately we walked into the Hive after a party of 28-30 people walked in. We had booked a table for 2 well in advance. We had to wait 10mins before a waitress noticed us standing waiting to be shown to our table. Only 3 waitresses serving everyone including the large party of people !! We had to wait ages for each course so disappointing service and food was not what we expected. The mackerel and muscles were off the menu!! Bad management.
