Es justo decir que estaba esperando mi desayuno aquí. Tanto las reseñas en línea que brillan intensamente como el hecho de que la gema oculta está, de hecho, un poco escondida, acumulan la anticipación.

Jenny had been here several times but I hadn't, & it was a perfect place for lunch between a short walk in the Peak District and an indulgent birthday afternoon at the cinema. It's a really popular place - admittedly we arrived at 1.00 on a weekday - and we had to wait a few minutes for a table. So well worth waiting though rather than going on somewhere else: we had a superfood salad with extra avocado (a very colourful vegan choice), and a bowl of spicy refried beans on foccaccia, also topped with avocado and with pico de gallo (a piquant tomato salsa). Very on-trend, delicious, and more imaginative than you'd find in many places. The decor's attractive (Jenny tells me it's really come on by leaps and bounds since she first came here 7-8 years ago, as the place has got more successful and expanded), with good solid wooden tables, rattan chairs, and a few striking decorations on the walls. The cafe's in the middle of major extension work too, which will give it a much larger part-covered outside area, more tables and better disabled access - they hope to have all that available by the New Year. The service is quick and genuinely friendly too, and they also do proper coffees (espressos, cappuccinos etc) though we didn't have any today. Parking could be a problem - it's tight and the access is slightly tricky - but we parked on the main road and walked the hundred yards to the cafe, so it certainly needn't be a problem. A real treasure of a place and for sure I'll be back - and it's firmly on Jenny's list already.

The Rhubarb Cafe

22/09/2018: A great venue with excellent friendly service.
29/08/2018: Went back to The Shed for the first time in 6 months to find that it had moved location on the site (only 100m or so) and is now housed in a bigger building with a bigger upstairs. It was packed downstairs and whilst we were the first upstairs it was soon busy up there too.

Rafters

07/08/2018: Birthday gift meal, taster menu with the girlfriend.
12/11/2018: Visited here on Saturday and although enjoyed the company felt a little let down by the experience . The food and service was good but not great but after having eaten at Yorbridge house and the Black Swan at oldstead the previous week perhaps I was expecting to much?
