The Hercules Bar in Belfast

I visited when COVID 19 socially distanced eating was evident but this did not detract. I had traditional roast beef and vegetables washed down with a pint of guinness. Just the treat after a hard days touristing. I was actually really impressed with the politeness of the staff and the quality of the food. Recommended

Mi papá y yo lo visitamos el sábado por la noche y al instante nos enamoramos de este pequeño lugar. Pedí el pollo Hércules y el plato picante de champiñones, ambos absolutamente deliciosos. La comida fue sinceramente impecable: enormes porciones saludables, deliciosas y sabrosas, ¡y todo a un precio increíblemente razonable! A los dos nos encantaron tanto nuestras comidas que decidimos reservar para volver para el almuerzo del domingo al día siguiente.Regresamos el domingo por la tarde por tres platos y nuevamente todo fue sublime. La carne estaba tan tierna, probablemente el mejor trozo de carne que he comido. . . ¡sin grasa en absoluto!No solo la comida fue excelente, sino que los dos miembros del personal que nos atendieron fueron increíbles. La joven de las gafas fue muy educada y amable y el joven que trabajaba con ella fue muy atento y cortés también. Nada fue demasiado para estos dos y te hicieron sentir muy bienvenido. Ambos trabajaron muy duro e hicieron un gran equipo.Gracias por una experiencia maravillosa, se lo recomendaré a cualquiera que visite Belfast.

I'm eating an Irish beef pie and it's super tasty. Really big portion. The waitress is really nice and very helpful. Nice atmosphere.

Mi novia y yo acabamos de ir al restaurante / bar Hércules para comer. Tuve el bacalao rebozado con cerveza con patatas fritas, guisantes blandos (no) y salsa tártara. Mi novia tenía el pastel de pollo y jamón en una salsa cremosa con patatas salteadas con ajo. Me decepcionó mucho el bacalao rebozado con cerveza y, sin sonar grosero, solo podría describirse como insípido, pero las papas fritas eran realmente agradables, toda la comida de mi novia era realmente buena y las papas salteadas con ajo lo recomiendo encarecidamente. El servicio fue excelente personal muy atento sin exagerar.

Cenamos en el restaurante Hércules. ambos tuvimos el bacalao rebozado con cerveza. Debo decir que fue el mejor bacalao rebozado que he probado en mi vida. la masa era deliciosa y el bacalao era espeso y escamoso. . Además, el servicio fue de primera clase. . Sin duda recomiendo este lugar y volveré pronto.

my family had a meal here on sat night for my daughters birthday, the staff are so friendly and attentive the food was beautiful and prices were very reasonable, I will most definitely be back cant wait :)

I had 6 friends over from Scotland on the 1st of march for one night only, so we felt like some food before heading out. I'd heard of the Hercules as a great spot through customers I serve as well as friends reviews. Our booking was at 7pm and was met with a lovely host who sat us immediately, and had a bit of banter which was a nice change of pace. So as well as impeccable service, the food is absolutely outstanding. One of the best steaks I've ever had in my life, cooked to perfection as well as a massive portion. My friends thought I'd picked the perfect spot for dinner before a night out. I'd 100% recommend this restaurant in every way, and shall be back. Lovely food, great service, and warm, homey, atmosphere!

My husband and myself had a meal here on Friday night, I had Rib eye steak cooked to perfection, it was lovely, my husband had Chicken and ham pie and said it the nicest pie he had tasted in a long time. Have to say I have been in fancier and more expensive restaurants and the food has not been anywhere near as good, the young waitress was lovely couldn't do enough for you really attentive. This place is definitely worth a visit and we definitely be back

Called in for a chicken curry and pint. Food was absolutely fantastic, the two young girls serving us were exceptionally polite. This is a wee gem just of the main track, will be back and highly recommend to anyone

We visited the restaurant twice during our stay in Belfast as we liked it so much! Food was delicious, homemade cooking and the staff were very pleasant especially the lovely waitress who served us both times! She recommended vegetarian options and was happy to change things about to suit us. Not overpriced at all, the Hercules is a must if you are in the area.

Called in with my son for lunch . I had the steak sandwich and it was amazing my son had the burger he said it was fantastic the waiting staff are on top of their game well done to them amazing job . Amazing food and value for money will definitely be back again we’ll done to the chef and the team at the Hercules.

This is a true hidden gem, food is unbeatable and incredibly reasonable. Visited with the family at the weekend and the bill for our party of 10 adults and kids came to just over £100 including wine. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed their meals, kids loved their burgers and chocolate cake, the lasagne was the best I have had and mums fish and chips looked amazing. We were so keen to tuck in I didn’t even get any pics. Fab service and food. Highly recommend

Just down the road from our hotel, the Ibis on the edge of the main city centre (10 mins to City Hall). The restaurant is upstairs from the bar but run independently. Walked through the bar which was popular with locals. A good quality pub menu, the friendliest staff we encountered and an unusual room with a double height ceiling. If you’re looking for quality pub food at reasonable prices I would recommend a visit.

Just a little off the beaten track but well worth seeking out. I guess you could call it a 'hidden gem'. Seems to be popular with the locals which is always a good sign.

Visited the restaurant today with family for my birthday. Two course Sunday lunch for £12.95. The food was beautiful, big portions and piping hot when it arrived. The fussy children also finished all of theirs which very rarely happens. The staff were so helpful and friendly. We will definitely be back and recommending it to family and friends. Very impressed.

In Belfast for Little Mix concert. Arrived early to walk around. The smell as we passed enticed us in. Food was delicious. Sunday lunch menu. We had veg soup, roast beef & pan fried chicken dinners and chocolate fudge cake (menu said with ice cream but served with cream). Slight disappointment for some but cake was lovely. Staff a bit slow to come with menu but pleasant; & attentive once food ordered. Very reasonable 2 courses £12.95.

Been here several times and foods been excellent but Sunday roast let it down. Roast beef very dry and to be honest was not very impressed with any of it. Wanted fish supper which is absolutely amazing but not on a Sunday apparently.

The Food and Service was so good we ate their Friday and Saturday night in restaurant upstairs , my husband had steak and chunky chips , i had the Cod & chips and my brother and his wife had a chicken and steak pie with chips and veg, The food was excellent and very reasonable main course and 2 drinks each £65 highly recommend

Dopo aver cercato per un po' un posto che vi attirasse abbiamo trovato questo ristorante, in una traversa della via principale di Belfast per la vita serale. Il locale è carino e la cameriera molto gentile e disponibile. Abbiamo preso 4 zuppe e 4 piatti di carne, da bere 3 birre e un sidro. Tutto era molto buono, giusto un po' troppo salato ma niente di intollerabile. Abbiamo speso sui 70€, viste le porzioni anche poco!

I wanted to visit a typical Irish pub and I was not disappointed, I was the only non local, but I was received with a welcome. I had a very good cheese/onion toastie.

Dropped in here after many years as wife went shopping. Staff were so friendly and regulars always ready for a good yarn. We meant to go somewhere else for food but I was so comfortable stayed where we were. The food was second to none and service amazing. Fish and chips to die for as was the homemade pies. Looking forward to a return visit.

Popped in to the upstairs new restaurant in the Hercules bar to try out the treats I’d been hearing about . So glad I did had a delicious Burger and was served by a lovely waitress , very nice place and a view of castle street , queen street area of Belfast , not bad on the pocket either and can highly recommend it , the chef checked on me too seems to be a sound guy should do well worth a visit .

Very good. Quiet, peaceful. The waitress was kind and hepful. We had the beef pie: excellent and the lasagna were good too. Together with good beer from the pub dowstairs!

Spent a lovely time here meeting and catching up with old friends. Also had a nice lunch here, try the Irish stew delicious and filling. Pleasant staff we will definitely return in the future

Came here on a sunday for lunch with my mum and 2 children, i had the chicken, my mum had the beef and the kids had chicken goujons and chips. Everything was freshly made and so tasty. Service was great and will definitely be returning. :)

Had dinner here on first night and it was very good, we both had the roast beef and it just melted in the mouth.Just a pity we never had a chance to go back and try the bar which sounded lively enough.

El hígado y las cebollas eran perfectos, con un toque moderno y, una vez más, bien presentados. Sin duda volveré a comer aquí ya que la decoración es agradable y el servicio es muy bueno. Tomamos unas copas en el bar de la planta baja, que es un bar tradicional de Belfast, amable y acogedor. Pasé unas horas encantadoras allí para rematar la comida perfecta. Altamente recomendado .

Having frequented the Hercules Bar for over 20 years was delighted to hear of the new restaurant upstairs opened by 2 excellent young chefs. Having heard rave reviews by staff and customers decided to take the family for a nice midweek meal and see for myself what all the fuss was about. 2 opted for the Lambs liver with ‘granny’s champ’, 2 kids burgers along with 2 adult burgers and ‘ma’s Chips’. Personally possibly the nicest liver dish I’ve had and the champ was to die for - a true taste sensation! The chips really were like my ma’s and enjoyed by all! My daughter said it was one of the nicest burgers she’s tasted and said she would return for that alone. Everyone agreed it was excellent and will definitely return. The kids meals also included ice cream with freshly sliced strawberries- a nice touch. Value for money as well just enhanced our overall enjoyable experience - I mean there’s not many places you can get such a good meal for 6 people at under £60 including drinks. Will definitely return as think I need to work my way through menu. Keep up the good standards lads as think your onto a winner if you do.

We walked by this bar countless times on the way from our place into the city centre and just had to try it. We both craved a burger, and it really hit the spot - it was so delicious! The patty was so tasty and the sauce was perfect. We wanted to go back, but didn't have the time. Will definitely look for it again when we're back in Belfast!

Con tanta gentrificación en los bares del centro de la ciudad, se lo recomendaría a cualquiera que busque un auténtico bar local en el centro de la ciudad. Está justo al otro lado de la calle de las habitaciones de escape, así que es perfecto para discutir tácticas o tener un informe después.

Have had lunch here in the past and enjoyed but called into bar after Christmas market and was a great atmosphere in bar and there was a live band playing had a good couple of hours in the bar .

Se siete andati o volete andare a fare il tour dei murales storici con un black cab, allora vi troverete probabilmente dalle parti di Castle Street, dato che su di un lato di Castle Court (grandi magazzini) si trova la base dei taxi. Se così è, prima o dopo il tour passate nella Street e, all'angolo con Chapel Lane, troverete il locale. Al piano superiore servono a qualsiasi ora un più che accettabile roast-beef con salsa Gravy (decisamente buona) e Yorkshire pudding. Innaffiate il tutto con una buona birra alla spina o in bottiglia (anche irlandesi). Personale decisamente gentile e locale accogliente.

Ce pub est situé à peine à 1mn à pieds de l'hôtel Ibis Centre. Ne pas hésiter à entrer même si son allure extérieure n'est pas très engageante. Plusieurs bières pression à choisir & bonne ambiance. De nombreux locaux y ont l'air habitués, c'est un signe.

Nos recibió una señora muy agradable, que nos dejó recogida en nuestra mesa, nos dio el menú y conversamos durante unos minutos. La comida era realmente deliciosa, muy bien de precio y sin duda volveremos. Tienes que tener cuidado en las escaleras, ya que puede ser un poco caro.

Super Stimmung, viele Einheimische, was ja eigentlich immer ein gutes Zeichen ist. Personal ist freundlich, das Bier ist gut und auch eine große Auswahl, was will man mehr ;-)

En nuestro reciente viaje a Belfast a mi hija y yo teníamos una visita el bar de Hércules - qué lugar tan encantador. Bastante gente disfrutando de bebidas y comida durante nuestra visita que estaba entre las 12. 30 - 15. 30. Excelente comida, teníamos la salchicha y puré de patatas y pescado y opciones de chip y nos quedamos agradablemente sorprendidos con la frescura, calidad y presentación de nuestros platos. Las bebidas y la comida servida por el personal era amable, bien informado de los productos y sobre todo acogedor. Otro pub en nuestra lista de visitar de nuevo en nuestro viaje de regreso a Belfast este próximo mes de septiembre. Gracias a todos en el Hércules X

Hoy fui a ver el fútbol. Nunca fuimos a un pub por mí y así estaba un poco nerviosa pero me hicieron sentir muy bienvenidos por el personal del bar y otros clientes. Me quedé muy impresionado y ahora sé donde mi nuevo 'local' será en cualquier momento un partido.

You will find this place populated by locals rather than tourists, which is something that many people prefer. Not glamourous but genuine.

The Hercules pub was great. The food was brilliant and the tobacco onions were amazing. The young girl serving us was great. Lovely little pub with a bar seperate to the food area. Highly recommend you visit when your in Belfast.

went here cos seen the deal 2 course 7.95. the food was edible but wasn't great something I could of made at home. the chips were skinny frozen chips and they were horrible. the starter wedges were suppose to be spicy but just normal. the chicken coujons were suppose to be spicy and they were also normal. the waitress was walkin about with an e cig in her hand. wouldn't rush back think when the Christmas market is on I will get something in it.

I have never left restaurant reviews before on this site, but felt I had to this time... On the plus side, I really liked the décor of the upstairs dining area... However, from the time we ordered our food, to the time we were served, we had to wait for an hour... I have never had to wait that long. At one stage, the waitress, who was on her own and under a lot of pressure, asked us if we wanted to just give up on our order (!) and try our luck elsewhere... The very fact that she suggested it said it all. Eventually, the food arrived as I was putting my coat back on to try to get food elsewhere. The food was nearly cold, and the chips undercooked and soggy. It wasn't the waitress's fault, obviously, and I know she felt bad about the situation. If I had known, I would have had lunch at the Christmas market, up the road... More exotic, cheaper and far quicker! Sadly, based on my experience, I can't recommend this restaurant at all...

Sat upstairs in rear for lunch. The fish in the fish and chips wasn't eatable. Service was super slow. No atmosphere at all. Downstairs was a lot better but was full of old guys watching TV. There are much better places in the area!

Me and my boyfriend have been here a few times. Service is quick and simple. Waitress simply said everything was nice and didn't make a real recommendation but apart from that I was very happy with all of our food. The chips are the nicest chips ever

Cheio de locais que acompanhavam as corridas de cavalos nos televisores, logo ao entrar no pub me senti uma E.T., parecia que todos se conheciam e erámos os únicos estrangeiros. Pouco a pouco a garçonete super simpática foi quebrando o gelo. Comida de pub, muito saborosa com preços honestos.Adorei a experiência.

Just up the road from our hotel, we stopped in for a Sunday Lunch and a Pint. You have a chouce of 1,2 or 3 courses, (£8, £10, £12 Approx) We ordered Battared Mushrooms and the Beef. Mushrooms were delicious. The Main course we got 3 'slabs' of beef, roast and mashed spuds, carrots, broccolie and lashings of gravy. Good pint of Smithwicks beer to wash it down with. It's not going to win any awards, but, for the price / service and location you can't knock it - Give it a go.

Good beer and lots of seating to enjoy a boozy afternoon. This bar is quite old and takes it name form Hercules Street which was the former name of Royal Avenue. Right beside Castle Court if there are others in your group who dont enjoy horse racing and beer in the afternoon.

this place is such a find, the staff are friendly and the food stunning. I had one of the best steaks ever and I eat out a lot and travel a lot. The chef certainly knows how to cook. It is not overly expensive like some of the other eateries closer to city centre. Great place for a sit down, drink and good dinner.

Lunchtime in the Hercules was a most pleasant and filling experience. Their vegetable soup is delicious. Roast beef and honey roast ham dinners were of the highest quality and actually too much for my husband and me. Very reasonably priced.

Went to the Hercules before a night at the boxing. Food was top class and very reasonable. Under no pressure to rush out after finishing food. Very happy

Popped in over new year with my girlfriend, attracts an older crowd in the castle street area, Very well runned pub, lovely food, pleasant bar staff, and lovely Guinness:) Horse racing was on the big TVs all the time, I loved it:) no tracksuits allowed or football colours, Thanks for a few great afternoons!

I Haven't been in,'The Hurc' for a while. But it's a traditional Belfast bar that serves great pints with a bit of chat thrown in. Perfect

This is an ok pub, decent service and ok beers. Belfast is blessed with plenty of really good pubs and where this isn't the best, i wouldn't not go back

This bar had a vegetarian curry which was recommended by head waiter...unfortunately I tried it.There was approx 4 vegetables in the mix mainly carrot...a small amount of white rice and a coloured brown watery non curry 'sauce'. Around 12 euros. I had half of it ..could eat no more it was so pathetic. There was no attempt to make some innovation to the meal. Complained to the head matronly waitress that it was the worst vegetarian restaurant meal I had ever had. No refund no apology no nothing. Don't go there terrible

Esta muy centrico, y aunque tiene pub abajo, tiene otros tambien muy cerca. Un servicio estupendo, buena comida, un local acogedor.

After deciding to leave another restaurant close by due to a menu with little choice, we decided to try Failte Restaurant at the Hercules Bar. Although the food was fine and very reasonably priced, what really made the night one to remember was the service. Courtney and Christine were amazing. We will definitely be back.

Great welcome from Martin behind the bar , lovely Guinness and the irish stew was beautiful. Can't recommend it enough. Hope to be over again soon.

We visited this 'historic' pub in Belfast (though despite Google, I could not find out why it was historic!). The atmosphere was friendly and the Harp Ice lager was fantastic. I would recommend a visit to this pub by anyone visiting Belfast, and I would definitely recommend anyone to visit Belfast. A great city.

We enjoyed our first time in Belfast recently. All the way fae the Orkney Islands, off the North Coast of Scotland. We have been thinking about visiting Belfast for many years. At last we did it! We were in the Hercules Bar a few times and the staff were very helpful with local information. We enjoyed a fantastic nite of dancing and a wee dram. Also the excellent staff. One cheeky barman asked me if l was related to Subo...... Och he's a wee star. Hope to visit again sometime soon. We loved Belfast. XXX

Nice location for a few quiet drinks, nice local spot for a few drinks in the company of the locals.

Great bar, staff very warm and welcoming. A must see as it's one of only afew traditional bars in Belfast. Fun night whether your starting out or just out for afew, this a place to check out.

Dropped in on a whim four of us(2 couples), was like stepping back in time, barmen with collars and ties on, black trousers with shining shoes, giving good service to all their customers, on entry we were hit with a wall of sound, it was only the patrons enjoying themselves with talking and watching the sport on the TV, this bar appeared to be well run.We stayed for around an hour, till refreshed and then continued on our way, (on a city break)Can recommend the pub and will return the next time we are back in Belfast.

Stopped here for a few........a short 2 mins from the Ibis. We sat in a corner and enjoyed the quietness. A favourite with locals I think.
