We come here for drinks and love the sofa by the window. The live music is a bit loud but not for too long. Very friendly staff.

Good pub with yummy food and a pool table!

Not as good as it was when Kevin ran it. All a bit haphazard and my peas were cold but, still worth the trip for Sunday lunch and oh bigger plates please my food kept falling off the plate

One of the best veggie burgers I've had - really tasty! The waiting staff were polite and pleasant. My only complaint is that it was quite chilly inside when I visited in January, I wasn't very comfortable.

Chose this place for a birthday celebration based partly on the fact that it would let my needy dog dine with us! We were able to park outside (restricted only before lunch) All of the food was good; the Beef wellington and the Scotch egg especially. Portions were large. The staff were all lovely and really helpful Only slightly marked down because of the noisy group next to us although we were eventually able to move to a quieter spot.

Great place, great food shame we had no time to stay longer and enjoy the music!

Came here for Saturday lunch based on the reviews. Ordered food and starters and mains came out all at the same time, apparently we should have specified we wanted the starters first... Go figure! Food was average, chewy calamari, very fishy fish so clearly not fresh, average burger and then covered in ash from the fire which went mental at one point. Not worth the trip, will try elsewhere if we come back to the area again.

We came to eat à good Beef Wellington and we are not disapointed at all! The waitress was vert friendly and the food was perfectly cooked! I recommand this place.

Really fancied a beef wellington yesterday and stubled across The Hemingway. Food overall was pretty good. Beef Wellington was cut into 2 big chunks rather than sliced up for presentation. Beef was of good quality and pastry was nice. Sides that come with it are enough, especially if you have starters like we did. Didn't need the mac and cheese but always a nice addition. Good pub lunch.

The Sunday Roast was amazing and great value for money. Particularly the meats were high quality. Such a nice London pub that could be improved by the service. I tried to make a reservation for 1:00 pm but was offered 12:00 instead which is no big deal. Although I really don’t know why the staff have to say “We need the table back by 1:30” , it’s very annoying and an unprofessional and unwelcoming attitude in the hospitality business. Particularly as the next “reservation” according to the sign was for 3:00 pm and not for 1:30 anyway. At the end of the meal we were well fed and couldn’t manage a dessert which I think would probably be pretty good considering the high standard of the mains. We asked for Irish coffee and were told that the pub doesn’t do hot drinks? A pub not doing hot drinks? All in all the service wasn’t great but the food was amazing.

The Beef Wellington was fantastic as it was last time and the service and staff was friendly and welcoming.* Original post (December 2021) - I'll get my one tiny negative out the way - please get better craft and cask beer on? You have some amazing breweries nearby (Old Street & Howling Hops to name 2) please please get some proper craft or cask ales - not just Doom Bar (owned by Molson Coors) and Beavertown (Owned by Heineken) these aren't craft. Anyway, aside from that minor detail this place is fantastic! Friendly staff, talkative and relaxed but very efficient and professional. The Beef Wellington was absolutely amazing, me and my mate ordered one each - they are meant for 2 people however we both hadn't eaten all day in anticipation of this meal and we both cleared our plates. The fillet of beef was tender and served medium-rare, it was seasoned very well and as Ramsay would say, it was 'beautiful'. The beef basically melted in your mouth. The duxelle was free of water and the deep earthy taste from the mushrooms was top notch. The puff party was cooked well being light and crispy. This was served with a side of beans, stem brocoli and cabbage all again, well seasoned and cooked just right with only a slight crunch. Lovely. This came with a gravy boat. A further side of triple cooked hand made chips was also served, these were also lovely and fluffy with a crunchy skin. We shared a bottle of red with this and it paired with the meal perfectly In Central London you'd pay over £70 just for the Wellington alone. This pub, being quiet and sofisticated yet laid back with some awesome music (most of which I noted featured in the The Inbetweeners as a coincidence, which was a fun twist) meant for me we had good value for money too, considering the rising costs of ingredients such as the fillet. Would certainly return for another Beef Wellington and a bottle. Hats off to the chef and the barman for a top afternoon!

Shambles of a place. Booked a table for 14 and not only did they seat us nearly an hour late, they then tried to squeeze us on a table for 10 by the toilet. Food was ok but ridiculously over priced. Staff were rude. If you can't accommodate large groups then don't accept bookings for large groups. I've genuinely never been more disappointed by a venue. An utter joke.

Great place to eat with great food.

Was in on Thursday night and had brilliant service for a guy behind the bar who wouldn’t let me buy him a drink, so thought would post a review instead. He helped us out a couple of times with wine which was corked and provided really personable service. I think his name was Adam but might be wrong (tall guy with long hair). Great barman and give that man a bonus! Cheers

I visited this pub for the first time on Sunday, it was really busy (which is usually a good sign!). We had almost made our minds up to find a pub in the local area but Jess who works there was super friendly and helpful and managed to sort us a table. She was remarkably calm and her customer service was great even with the place being rammed, and she managed to check on us throughout our meal to ensure everything was great- which it was. Thank you Jess!

Disappointing. Staff were enthusiastic and nice, place needs re-decorating, food (Sunday lunch) was moderate. Beef was tough, some vegetables (broccoli) barely cooked, Lamb very fatty. Generally not up to scratch. Better Sunday roasts available all over the place. Nice atmosphere and would go back if I thought the food was good (people we were with said they had been one evening and beef wellington was spot on, so we had high hopes.

Booked a Sunday meal at 3 pm finally received meal after being sent to another area to wait for table at 515 pm service was awful no cutlery or sauces at time of meals being presented so busy I don’t think they cared about our wait despite being prompted numerous times would not recommend to anyone food was just average meat was ok 2 hard potatoes and hard veg shame really ruined our family day

Very underwhelming roast. Ordered 5 of the roast ‘Scottish beef fillet’ for the family but the meat we received was overcooked and a cheap cut of meat. I know this place can do better - please do better with your roast beef.

Very unhygienic - when serving our drinks tor barman picked up lumps of ice with his hands (no gloves!), and again with the lemon slices. Also, the cutlery was being wiped on a dirty tea towel before being given to customers. The food was ok (but greasy chips) - generally not a particularly good experience and we won't be going back again.

Visited the Hemingway for their Sunday roast the other day. Food was good, the outdoor eating areas were cute, but the service really tied everything together for me. Exceptional!

The pub on its own is very nice, tasty food food! But the service can definitely be better, very distracted staff. Our food took 50min as they forgot our order in an empty pub in Sunday evening… wasn’t great

Really poor. Waited 20 minutes for a menu and waitress didn’t come back. Other bars are much better so this isn’t a ‘hidden gem’ that’s at the back

Great casual gastropub - recommend the scotch egg and beef wellington (comes nicely with chips, gravy and bacon-topped veg). Decent beer selection, great service at bar and table, plus nicely close to Victoria Park. Cool London maps in the bathroom too!

Such an amazing place I went to have a wellington beef, and oh boy... That was amazing. Perfect medium rare, crispy dow, served with vegetables and chips. Just perfection. Take it with cabernet savignion. But, in addition to amazing beef it is happened that on Friday evening they have an incredible live jazz. Highly recommended!

Food and staff Amazing, try the scotch eggs and the Wellington stik!

On vacation from NYC and decided to try beef Wellington and scotch egg for the first time but didn’t want the hefty price. I was pleasantly surprised at how good the scotch egg was. The beef Wellington was delicious. The jus was incredible. We also had the sticky toffee pudding and it was divine! I must admit that I came with low expectations for the British food but wow! This was soooo good! I am truly humbled. Highly recommend!

Great local pub with a good vibe! Had the burger which was delicious. Nice spot to meet up with people to have a drink outside.

Can't complain about the food but the service was the worst I have ever had. It was so strange. The waiter was very aggressive with me and when one of my party asked if there was an issue he just stopped and stared him out. I have no idea what was going on with him but would not recommend the experience. We left as soon as we had eaten which is a shame as the food was good.

Top-notch restaurant with great atmosphere! The wait staff are AMAZING, there is a lovely bar, and the food is out of this world! My nephew and I shared the Beef Wellington for two, and it was prepared perfectly, accompanied by the tastiest haricot verts! I can't wait to return to England just to go to The Hemingway again!!

Really nice food and lovely fun atmosphere

This was probably the best restaurant we went to while visiting London. Even though it is a little outside the main city areas, it was so cute, quaint, and authentic. The service was absolutely amazing and the wellingtons were the best!!

The Hemingway pub è vicino al Victoria Park, perfetto per gustare un sunday roast dopo una passeggiata domenicale nel parco, peraltro ricco di spazi attrezzati. Il locale ha spazi all'esterno e all'interno e, inoltre, un cortile interno che in caso di pioggia può essere chiuso. Abbiamo ordinato un sunday roast a testa, assaggiando così quello di pollo, manzo, maiale (una specie di pancetta magra), agnello (credo coscia). L'arrosto è accompagnato da patate, fagiolini, broccoli e da una specie di croissant. Il tutto accompagnato da birra e "tap water" (acqua del rubinetto). Accompagnato da salse (mostarda, rafano, menta) e dal "gravy". Abbiamo concluso il pranzo con due dolci, una sorta di apple pie e un toffie, entrambi con gelato. Poco più di 30 euro a testa. Nel complesso, quindi, decisamente soddisfatti.

Visited this fab pub this Sunday evening and they served us an amazing roast dinner, amongst other dishes until 9pm!! Which is literally ‘winner winner chicken dinner’ lovely staff, atmosphere and lovely people all round.and super dog friendly , I will be back next time I’m in london ❤️❤️

The food is good and it’s got a nice outside area, but beers are expensive and the mark up on half pints is insane!

We came on a sunny Sunday and it was quite busy. Great atmosphere and good service given how busy it was. We had the cheese board which was lovely !

Stay away. The food use to be fantastic here but has deteriorated in quality over the last three years. We discreetly mentioned the meat was chewy and were bullied by the extremely aggressive Manager. Will not be going back.

This is a lovely pub indeed and the beef roast is great. However their customer service is not quite where it should be. For the prices of the food and drinks they are positioning themselves quite high but the service level does not reflect that.

Good ambience pub with variety of food option. Overall food presentation and taste are good especially love the scotch eggs, deep fried squid and the chicken liver pate. The dirty hot wings a bit over cooked so missing the chewy texture of meat. The wellington beef was beautifully cooked/ presented, only drawback is the pastry seems a bit too dry and not enough puffy . Staff are friendly and service is good. We went there on Sunday around 12pm. People come thereafter and was very crowded when we leave around 2pm. Advance booking on weekend suggested. They offer also Sunday roast which looks very attractive. Relax environment good for hang out with friends !

An amazing pub with fantastic food. Portions are generous, and tasty. Bookings are a must on weekends, as the pub becomes very full. But is both dog and child friendly. A good range of vegetation pub options. Don't miss out on the deserts.

It was my first visit, and it was a Sunday.. I'm not sure if what I saw is an everyday thing. Kids were there, including babies, and I saw a couple of dogs too... it was just a great family atmosphere. Lots of chatter and a happy noise. I liked the age mix, too, young and mature mixing. Plus, the food was great.

2 stars are for the free drinks and % taken from our bill! Mother’s Day Sunday lunch was chaotic!! No Organisation whatsoever. The staff are really lovely but after asking for cutlery 4 times after our food had arrived is just ridiculously annoying. I like my food hot ty. Yorkshire pudding very stodgy, potatoes, all 2 of them are undercooked, lamb is fatty and very pink as is the beef, wish we had been asked how we like it! Vegetables were cold and very undercooked, and the red cabbage was so sweet it overshadowed everything, really disgusting. I did ask for my lamb to be re cooked and when I got my plate back With re cooked lamb (still rare) everything else on my plate had gone cold. For £19 guys you need to do better. Staff need to be organised so that there is some system in place because it is crazy . Not a relaxing experience on Mother’s Day at all!! Also, if you have a 2 hour rule on busy days like Mother’s Day then you need to enforce it. Letting kids etc take over tables that paying customers could be sat on. Get organised and sort the food out!

Sunday roast is bland and some veg are undercooked. I was hungry and hate wasting food but I couldn’t continue eating as it smelled funny, the chicken was covered in some kind of seasoning and spice but still bland, and overall just unpleasant. Sad, it used to be good here. Not going back.

Service is appalling, food very average, price as steep as everywhere in London. It looks like there’s no system in place around which server should work with which tables, and people don’t seem to be trained up at all. Which meaning massive disorganisation, tables not clean, long waits, people taking orders and then forgetting... One sever was so unskilled they were beyond useless, when we had to pay the bill we had to literally take over and do their job as they had zero clue. The roast was incredibly dry, no gravy on top nor side, the Yorkshire pudding was so stodgy and dense it felt like a bread brick. Not going back again.

The atmosphere is very good, with good food and a variety of drink with nice valuer and helpful service.

Costs a tenner for a large glass of wine, good luck getting served. Roast is below average, potatoes undercooked and wouldn't bother if you're vegetarian; creamy alternative gravy and you're given a veggie burger instead of meat. We had to share a table, despite booking. They get 2 stars for the cool toilets & decent meat portions

The staff were inattentive and we had to chase them to be served. Roast was poor and the potatoes uncooked in the middle. Ridiculously busy and we were jostled by passerbys throughout our meal. Won't be heading back again.

Brilliant staff, very friendly and accommodating, food is beautiful; love their halloumi and fish and chips. This place is always kept clean. This is mine and my partners local and we love it here!!

Great pub. World cup final day - they wer great, we had 10 with 4 kids. The pub staff took everything in their stride.

This place is all style over substance. For a start the pub was so cold it was hard for me to focus. The food was poor, cold and disappointing.The starter of fried calamari was like rubber in crusty batter. The chicken burger was greasy, lacked seasoning and was so bad I had to send it back. The Berry crumble lacked topping but was at least edible. I do not recommend this place.

FOOD POISONING! AVOID!!! We went here with our young children and friends for a Sunday roast. The service was pretty poor to start with. My wife, son and friend's wife all had the chicken roast and all three spend the night throwing up and feeling extremely unwell for the next few days missing school, work and nearly a flight. Luckily they recovered without a hospital visit. We immediately informed the restaurant to give them the opportunity to make things right but there was no acknowledgement, apology or sign of disposing of the contaminated meat. Given that this isn't a cheap pub, at least a refund would have been appropriate. It took them a week in the end to get back to us offering a free lunch... no thank you!!

We visited for Sunday lunch (would recommend booking in advance), it was suuuuuuper busy which meant even on a small table we were fighting to hear each other. All staff seemed to be rushed off their feet, but everyone we spoke to was helpful and pleasant, if not super present . I had a veggie roast, and it was better than alot of other places I've had a veggie roast, but didn't quite hit the mark. The 'veggie' bit didn't really fit with the rest of the plate and was lacking gravy. I think it's a lovely pub, but maybe best not to visit at a super peak time!

A good lively neighbourhood pub, always busy during the weekend. I tried the Sunday Roast, here the lamb. The meat, stuffing and gravy were excellent but the veggies undercooked. Nonetheless a good experience, next time I'll try the Beef Wellington as it looked really good on other people's tables.

The Lager is extremely expensive in relation to the area, I would recommend Mare St Market, The Laureston, Inn on the Park & The Empress as better alternatives. Message to owners 2 pints for £14 is outrageous 🤓☝️

Huge portion, it’s done nicely like a home cooked meal. However not the best Sunday roast I’ve had, it’s just generous but feels average.

Oh lord where do I start! This is a lovely pub indeed and the roast is great. However their customer service is not quite where it should be. For the prices of the food and drinks they are positioning themselves quite high but the service level does not reflect that. For instance, yesterday there was a horrific rain and for the people that were sat outside having food that were completely blown away by the tropical storm, the staff were not very supportive/helpful. I would have expected a little bit more when essentially you can see at the second picture everything got soaking wet and people had to leave their food because it got drenched by the rain.
