Massive improvements over the last few years. Cracking specials and great service. Lovely ambience and a proper country pub. Keep up the good work and we will keep coming back

Excellent atmosphere. Amazing staff. Great food. The place was so good we went to it two nights in a row.

I got the roast beef, my girl got the turkey and ham.. out of this world.. well priced.. I'll be back during the weekdays to try the menu, we came Sunday so the menu was limited 5*

Five of us stopped for dinner here on Tuesday. We had a booking and a good job because the place was quite busy. We started in the bar which is cosy and welcoming. Ordered our meals and then into the dining area. The menu certainly has enough for every taste. I had the BBQ ribs which were excellent. Service is fast and friendly. The portions are certainly generous. It’s quite a small place so it has an intimate feel about it. £170 for the five of us including starters and some desserts. Good value. We’ll be back.

Champ cold steak fatty and not very nice the only warm thing was chicken wings.Had booked and where brought into back bar with a dog round the table.Had heard such good reviews that's why we went.Wont be rushing back.

Been here multiple times for kids christening meals, birthdays, Sunday lunch and date nights. Never disappointed. Friendly staff, great food, great service.

Visited in march 2023 along with two collegues from the are. Being from Norway I didn`t know what to expect and followed along. Nice big parking lot in the back of the restaurant. Nice atmosphere, easy going staff and a nice bar made a good first impression. I ordered Korean style grilled couliflower and chicken stack. The couliflower dish was superb!! Absolutely loved it! Chicken stack was also nice! Recomended by Norwegian since march 2023.

Hi just out of the restaurant. My husband and I had two main meals which cost £16 each. Came to £32. Shocking price. While food was nice portion size OK and definitely not worth it. I was here a week ago and prices changed so much. Staff were lovely but we won't be back

Not cheap and disastrous food. 7 Turkey and ham dinners with stuffing. 1 with no ham and all 7 with breadcrumbs thrown at the plate for stuffing. If they did not have the capacity for cooking stuffing they would have been better to tell us rather than throwing breadcrumbs all over the plate. The waiter and waitress were very nice and you could tell they were embarrassed . Would not recommend. A total waste of money.

My wife and I happened to be off work for a couple of days and decided last minute to head out for food. We love this place because of the good food, friendly staff and relaxed atmosphere but unfortunately we don't get out as much as we used to. We were 1 child down so thought we'd make the most of it. The food was great as usual and there wasn't much wasted. I'd a monkfish special which was very tasty! Don't have a photo cause I was starving! It looked good & tasted great! I love how you can see into the clean kitchen. I was able to tell the chief myself about how good the food was. This is great place for families. Wish we could go more often!

Always a lovely meal out here - took advantage of the Eat Out To Help Out scheme and have also had takeaway from here! All the staff are wonderful and nothing is ever too much trouble for John. Food always incredible and lovely atmosphere :)

Went for a family meal during Covid, and even though it was very busy the staff did a great job of making us feel safe and looked after. Great service with great food and we left wanting to return as soon as things get better

Visited recently. Shown to table by very loud girl at entrance! None of the staff were wearing face coverings or visors. No hand sanitiser available for staff on the bar. Too many staff behind bar at same time. Staff very careless no cleaning of hands between handling plates of food or drinks & dealing with customers!!Girl serving behind bar continually popping sweets/toffee into her mouth and then serving drinks. Just not acceptable. Need to review their standards of hygiene.At this very unstable time surely this could be improved!!!!

Called with family after lockdown eased and we were looking forward to a lovely meal . First disappointment was that the steak sandwich wasnt available even though steaks were available . We eventually all ordered steaks which the waitress delivered to the table but we had to sort them out ourselves as she made no attempt to establish who had ordered medium rare, well done etc . Dessert menu placed on table - again no communication until we called her over again to enquire what the cheesecake of the day was . Ice cream sundae very disappointing .

Got 2 Adult & 2 children's Sunday Carvery & can't complain. Excellent sized portions & food was very nice. I would highly recommend supporting this local business & look forward to getting a proper sit in meal again. Was busy but has signage up & hand sanitizer at door for piece of mind.

Visited this restaurant in recent days and was very unimpressed with the entire set up. Food came and was over cooked to the point of being burnt. Very disappointing all round. I enjoy my deserts however on this occasion I left mine. Flavourless!! No salted caramel that I could detect!! Won’t be recommending this place to others.

Food was average menu limited but the atmosphere and service were top notch. So while we would not rave about this venue it is not the worst

Have visited The Head of the Road on a number of occasions-all top notch meals. I have learned over the years that when my wife gets her hair"done" it is a signal to go out for a meal. Decided to visit Head again. Chose from the set menu- excellent. Both mains and desserts absolutely delicious- served by both the owner and a very accomplished waitress. Don't really need to say anything else! If you haven't been there-just go. Probably need to talk to Satellite Sally!!

We went for family Sunday lunch. The furnishings / layout is more cafe than gastropub. Disappointed no fish option on menu. Waitress asked though and there were various fish dishes available. Ordered salmon - when it arrived it was off! Waitress knew something was wrong when bringing it out and had it taken away and new order placed ASAP. Excellent waiting staff, so friendly and helpful. Replacement fish, chips, mushy peas, tartare sauce was really good. Other half loved carvery dinner, kids meals great - not all deep fat fried options - came with proper mash and veg. Lovely chocolate brownie but ‘salted caramel sundae’ a syrupy gloopy sickening mess. All in all, Head o the Road is middle of the road. Good place to turn off motorway for a bite but not a foodie destination.

Family of 4. 3 adults 1 child. Really enjoyed by all. Stuck to the mains for tea. Booked a few days in advance. Staff very friendly. Food served within 15 minutes. Generous portions and all were perfect. Really impressed for a 1st visit. Special menu is great value £4 for starter £10 main and £4 dessert...there abouts. Main menu is easy to follow and has good variety. Their house burger is fantastic. Chunky chips...just that. Overall...all were impressed. Although we skipped dessert the few we saw were again generous looking and well presented. Busy enough when we were there Saturday 6pm. All in all...great spot to eat. Ample parking to rear.Mains are mostly £12 with steaks £23.5.Will add to our list of great places to eat.

This little restaurant was recommended to me and I'm really glad that we went to it for Sat evening meal. Lovely greeting, just as we went in the door, from lovely friendly staff who were very attentive and efficient. Starters are good portions. Stuffed garlic mushrooms were golden and sooo tasty. My husband had vegetable soup which he said was lovely. Main courses of cod and chips, vegetable curry, lasagne and burger (after so much turkey and rich food we were happy for the change). Food was served hot and well presented and it was really lovely. I didn't have dessert but I did have a first class Bailey's coffee. The bill wasn't bad either. This wee gem of a restaurant is only a few mile from where I live and yet I never knew it existed til recently. Do yourself a favour and give it a call if you want good decent honest lovely food you won't be disappointed.

We were here this time last year , lovely welcoming pub and restaurant , and although there are renovations going on at the moment ,we still had a wonderful meal . The staff were so friendly . Would highly recommend this place.

My second time in the head o the road and even better this time. All 4 of us loved our mains! Dads pork chop was the best he had ever eaten. The desserts are mouth watering. All in all superb food & excellent value for money in a beautiful country gastro pub. If you haven't tried it, visit soon!

Have been quite a few times but the only negative comment I can make is that they do not serve a selection of vegetables!! I asked for a portion of veg on our last visit and the only thing on offer was stir fired veg. This was fine and very tasty so....... maybe a selection of veg could be added to their side order choices ie broccoli , cabbage, cauliflower, carrots, parsnips etc.

Myself and my husband came here for lunch one Saturday afternoon on recommendation from a friend.. We hadn’t booked prior which was no problem as their was tables available. The place was lovely and homely and the girl serving us couldn’t have been nicer or more informative as to the menu / drinks etc.. The food came quickly and was delicious. Looking forward to our next visit.

It had been approx two years since my last visit.

Pre Christmas family get together, friendly efficient staff, good surroundings but pre-prepared food as can be expected at busy times.

We have been here on numerous occasions for family meals. Again, we weren’t disappointed. The meals were gorgeous, the serving staff were pleasant and friendly. The atmosphere was great. Thanks for a memorable night. We will defo be back. 😁

Disgusted. Do not go here. Stayed on for a few drinks after meal, and while we got into our taxi, we were shocked to see customers banging and knocking on local neighbours doors, it was terrible even worse was when we went back and reported it to the bar staff they smirked and said it always happens and had nothing to do with them. We will never go back and will def not recomend this place to anyone. New staff needed, with respect and consideration to others. Very disappointed customer.

Met friends on Friday night for a meal & drinks.. Staff were very chatty & friendly. Our meals were all so good, we forgot the time & sat until after 11.30pm and nobody was rushing us away. Thanks John and staff for another lovey meal!

Very pleasant surroundings and staff very friendly and attentive. Went out if our way to drive here as it was highly recommended. Had a very small dried up piece of bland tasting lasagne with no sauce and cheese sprinkled on top. A few lettuce leaves some coleslaw which I don't eat and a tiny finger of garlic bread...really. A side order of a small portion of chips. My husband had a chicken stack again a very small portion with a little tasteless pepper sauce. Declined dessert and wont be rushing back Very disappointed its very overpriced..

Went there today and food was beautiful. If your in the area pop in as you won't regret it. Santa was there so must be good!

Went here this weekend with a large group of friends (17 of us). The food was absolutely fabulous. I had cheesy garlic bread, gammon steak (stunning) and chocolate brownie. Service was quick and the staff were all lovely.

Been here for Sunday lunch quite a few times and the food is always really good. It’s real comfort food, I had the chicken stack & it’s so tasty. Everyone in our family enjoyed their meal today, no complaints from anyone. Thanks again John and staff.

Last minute decision to eat here with some family members. Lovely clean place, nice decor, good service. We all ate from the early bird menu including garlic mushroom and chicken wings starter.

Called in and pre booked my daughters christening here. Explained to the girl that i would ring back on the wed to confirm. Rang on the wed to book only to be told that they had already booked another party in and couldn't cater for us. Then the man on the phone tried to say that the booking was already in even though the girl had told us that the Sunday was free and took our phone number

We had a fantastic evening at the Head O'the Road for a family birthday recently with a group of 23 people. We had pre-booked, received a menu choice promptly, and organised and planned the whole evening with the help of John, who was courteous and helpful from start to finish.

Great traditional style pub with a restaurant. Really nice staff, superb food, good quality, large portions & reasonably priced. The place was spotless too.

Out and about today with my better half who suggested trying The Head o' The Road-recommended by several friends. Knew it was in the townland of Tartaraghan, Portadown. Let down by Satellite Sally! Eventually found the place. Now for the good stuff. It is a typical country pub from the outside, good character and well maintained. First impressions excellent. Inside, cosy bar to the right and the main dining area to the left. Led in by John who we later found out was the owner. He gave us the menus and took drink orders without undue hesitation. When waiting, we took the opportunity to meander around the establishment - urged on by John. More dining areas downstairs and upstairs all decorated to the highest degree in a modern and tasteful manner. NOW - the food. My wife ordered cod goujons and I ordered a chicken dish. Both came out like a work of art. Both cooked and presented to perfection. Still found room, just about, for desserts. Lemon Meringue and Apple Crumble with custard. Unbelievable! We had chosen off the £14 two course menu and with drinks, our bill came to around £32- excellent value for exceptional food. As a bonus, we enjoyed our conversation with John who took great pride in relating the story of the business which had been in his family since the 30's. An excellent choice for us and as described in the title - Serendipity!

Went for a meal on Saturday night. Place was quite busy but plenty of staff working. Good menu choices to suit all tastes one starter off brie and we both had the chicken stack with champ and lattice fries. Both had desserts, the salted caramel roullade and apple crumble. All food was very tasty and well presented. Staff were very friendly our only complaint would be that it was all too fast. We were in and out in an hour, one dish was no sooner removed before the next was in front of us. We would have relaxed and enjoyed it better if there had been a little more time between courses. Not a major complaint and we will be back again

This place has recently been refurbished and looks great. It’s bigger than it was yet still quaint.

Lovely restaurant and friendly staff. Waiting staff were friendly and helpful ensuring we had everything we needed without being too intrusive. Main meal spoiled slightly by cold mashed potatoes otherwise meal was good and meat was tender, melting in your mouth. Pity about potatoes but I would give restaurant another try to see if this was s one off. Reasonable prices.

Went here for a family occasion one Saturday for lunch. The staff could not have been anymore helpful. Looking after all the kids that were there and even 1 gluten free. Food was lovely and everyone enjoyed their food. Good setting. A clean country pub.

Lovely restaurant which has been completely refurbed, the staff are very attentive and friendly and the owner goes out of his way for customers and is always working. The service is quick and food quality is amazing, especially the steaks. Beer garden is also great on a sunny day. Perfect for any occasion - regular customers and will continue to return!

My work friends and I had a belated Christmas outing recently and decided to visit The Head o The Road as we had heard good reports about it. The service was second to none and the food was very tasty, although the salted chilli chicken starter was a little too salty but I still ate it! The burger for mains was massive, good quality meat and great value, as was was the creme brûlée dessert. I’ll definitely be calling again.

I really had to think twice before I wrote this review ........ Not because I had anything bad to say about this hidden gem but because I have so many good things to say! This restaurant is a hidden gem set in the countryside outside Portadown ...... the atmosphere is amazing with helpful friendly staff and excellent, well priced food. I have been twice with friends, this being my second visit and I have throughly enjoyed both visits. Since my last visit the owners have refurbished and extended so I can't wait for my next visit to see what they have done, hopefully they haven't lost the country pub atmosphere or the excellent food in the modernisation.

myself and my wife went here on the 21st of December and we both had fillet steak, omg what a meal we both had. I like my steak well done and my wife likes it medium and that was what we got. we both liked the desert menu to look at but that was all we did. we both were really happy with our main course and could not eat any more. the staff were so friendly and helpful and you could see they were well coached in how to deal with and how to look after customers. we will be back and will recommend the head of the road to all our friends

Called in on the way home on boxing day, 3 of us ordered the deep fried brie ,all of them were cold in the centre. Did not complain at the time but wish I had ,an unpleasant experience

Cant fault the place at all. Its just been refurbished and it looks and feels great. The food was fantastic and the staff were v friendly and helpful. Not overly expensive either. Went here for a birthday meal with family. There's a lot of kids so we were a little concerned on how they would react but the staff were very friendly, tended to our every need and the food was absolutely amazing! Will certainly be back!!

Not expecting to find a restaurant on this country road so my wife and I decided to give it a try . There is a lot of renovations going on ,the staff are very friendly and the menu has a good selection. The food was well presented and very tasty also good portions. We will definitely go back when renovations are completed.

Food is good and service is excellent, but don't go on Thursdays. The place is crammed full with kids as they can eat for free. Why establishments choose to do this I don't know as it really puts off full paying guests who just want a quiet bite to eat without kids running round making a noise and crying/.

From the outside truthfully we were not expecting much, being completely refurbished, but as we were in the area, thought we would still give it a go.It's a restaurant in one side and a pub on the other. Greeted at the front of the house, very friendly and immediately sorted us out a table. Great service and the food arrived really quickly. The food is brilliant, between us we had the chicken stack, the burger, the Thai curry, everyone was massively impressed with it.Guinness £3.50 a pint.

My husband and I have eaten here 3-4 times over the past couple of years. The ambience is relaxed, the food delicious and the servers and owner are friendly They are expanding the premises to incorporate an outside casual decking area and have upgraded the decor recently to a more modern feel whilst maintaining the old stone of the original building. We think it is beautiful.

First time here. Well looked after by staff, simple but tasty homely food. Really nice setting. Would recommend and would go back.
