The Haywain in Thurrock

We had a family meal of 12, 5 adults and 7 children.. We had a table for 6:30pm and the table was ready and waiting for us. Both managers Karen and Neil welcomed us with a smile and took their time to great our entire party. The food was lovely, steaks came out exactly how we asked, double crunch burger cooked really well also. Sue, couldn’t fault her, she was amazing, went above and beyond, taking her time to chat to us and make us feel comfortable. The staff on a whole were brilliant, they all smiled and made time to talk to us even though we wasn’t on their section! Would really recommend!

Group of 12 work friends went for dinner and a beer we were pushed out the door more or less at 9.40 because they had decided to close early . The food was average and the management rude

Normally a good night, but tonight although atmosphere was good staff were under pressure owing to staff shortage. Drinks were ok although we prefer Carlsberg. Good was plentiful although the chips were cold,I brought it to waitress attention but I declined replacements as we had almost finished meal. Problem is not enough staff to cater for busy nights. Good ( apart from cold chips was good) waitress was good turnovers not a good night.

I don’t usually write reviews, however this is the second time I’ve been here in 3 months & had very slow service at lunch time. Waited 50 minutes for our drinks & Food took over an hour. We was going to have the 3 course set menu but decided not to as we didn’t want to wait an for dessert

Went out for my daughter’s 18th Birthday, the food and drinks were lovely. Served by Gluay who was extremely friendly and helpful and served my daughters dessert with candles and sang happy birthday with us. Lovely atmosphere would definitely recommend.

Family of 6 booked for meal New Year’s Eve, we originally booked the table for 19:45 as we had no intention of going out and staying out late. The morning of New Year’s Eve we took a call from restaurant and they asked if we could bring our table forward as the manager wanted to ensure that the staff wasn’t waiting around late on New Year’s Eve and to get home at a sensible time, we thought that this was very reasonable and was happy to bring our booking forward. So now our booking is for 19:15 which was absolutely fine as our youngest is 11. We arrived at the restaurant at 18:00 as that was our plan all along as we wanted to have a couple of drinks before hand. When we arrived we noticed that there were signs up advising the bar would be closed from 21:00. The bar area was id say less than half full so we found a table and chairs very easily. We were served very quickly. Around 19:00 we just let the hostess know that we were ready when they were for our table and she advised that our table was ready so we managed to sit down a bit earlier than expected. Sadly we wasn’t offered a kids menu so had to ask a couple of waitresses until we got one. The restaurant was semi busy and you could tell that the waitresses were extremely busy. After some time we were asked if we wanted some drinks but thankfully we had recently ordered from the bar so we were all good and just needed soft drink for the kids. We were then asked to place our orders and instantly we were advised of the items that were not available. Sadly one of them was what my family member wanted to order, so had to chose an alternative (which wasn’t a big deal) at this point we did order further more drinks which seemed to take a long time to be delivered and by the time we got the drinks we were ordering again. Once we finished our starters. We asked the waitress if we could have 10 mins as we could tell that food was being rushed and getting out quick. So the waitress went back and asked the chef to hold for a while and we heard his response “ I just stay here all f***ing night shall I” unfortunately our table was so close to the serving hatch so we heard everything that was said and all other conversations held in the kitchen, which was extremely off putting and such a shame as we were having a lovely evening. We also heard the chef talk to one waitress with no respect and extremely rude at one point which made us feel very uncomfortable. After we had our mains we didn’t feel comfortable enough to have desserts but my youngest did as she had a kids meal. We soon left immediately after paying the bill. Our waitress was amazing and couldn’t do enough despite the amount of pressure these guys are on, even on a normal day! Just such a shame that the chef spoilt our visit, if we had been seated further away so we couldn’t hear him, maybe things would be different. The only other thing that really lets this restaurant down is the toilet facilities. They really need refurbished and not just painted over and cleaned regularly. Really of putting when you’re out having a nice meal and then have to use the toilet that smells like urine.

Cannot say just how disappointing our trip today Boxing day was. We booked a table for 5, on viewing the set menu asked if we could order the adult starter for a main for our daughter( still paying full price per person) as she didn't like the Turkey dinner, burger or pizza option) this they couldn't possibly do! There was no customer service with small changes considering the set menu was ridiculously limited esp for children. The manager was a wet lettuce!! We paid for drinks and left and went to Tarpots Harvester. We were treated like royalty after explaining what had happened. Every need met and extras at no issue. As regular customers the Haywain will not be seeing us again. Food has gone downhill from past visits!!! The place was empty so can only tell one thing!!!

Great staff, all very helpful and polite. Food well prepared and served. Good atmosphere and well maintained.

Lovely meals. Steak cooked exactly as ordered and the chicken was moist and succulent. Chips hot and waitress was very helpful

Food was very disappointing. I went for the Xmas roast. Brussel sprouts frozen on inside. Parsnips rick hard. A bowl of sprouts were issued to replace the frozen ones but they had been microwaved and were a soggy mess. Extremely dissatisfied considering we traced from Kent to meet family. Will I come back?? Very unlikely.

Met a friend for lunch, we normally meet here as its a good location for us to meet. We have always had great service, but on this occasion it was exceptional. Kaylee, our server, was absolutely wonderful, she was so helpful, knowledgeable and an absolute diamond. We would definitely go again if we know she will be there.

Had a lovely lunch with my friend, regular catch up place every 3 months. Christmas dinner treat was delicious- unfortunately they forgot the stuffing but we’ll forgive that as the rest was so yummy. Excellent service from Kaylee a lovely friendly server, chatty and fun. See you soon!

Celebrating my granddaughter’s new job we went to The Haywain in Stanford le Hope on their 50% discount night. Table booked for 6.30 our meal turned up at 8!!! Granddaughter came straight from work & wanted an early meal. Ordered two steak & chips & one skewered grilled prawns & chips. One steak was more fat than meat the other steak wasn’t cooked medium as requested. The prawns looked like it was sitting in boiled water & put on the skewer,it was tough & tasted uncooked & not chargrilled at all. Not surprised at quality of food as the place was totally buzzing with crowds of people for the 50% deal on mains. My heart went out to the poor overworked staff trying their hardest to cope with minimum staff on such a busy night!!!! The manager,the waitress,the barmen & I’m sure the chef were just unable to cope!!!! They were practically running around with orders it was very sad to see & unsettling!! Surely on special deal nights they should have extra staff laid on as they expect to be busier than normal evenings!!! Instead of a nice relaxing evening it turned out very stressful indeed just watching the poor staff rushed off their feet doing their best & hearing people complaining throughout the evening..it was so sad !! The Haywain should be ashamed of themselves.. it’s not the staff’s fault they need to look into their promotion nights & increase their staff!!!!!

well where should I start.it was a nice meal and good place to eat.but they had half of the dessert not available and we had gypsies behind us making a right racket.the fish u had wasn't nice and the musy peas were cold and didn't have a dessert I wanted.also the ladies toilet smelt but not sure what.we wont be coming back for a while.also it was dark where we sat.but nice place to go if on diet and I like children as our friends got two lovely children.but when the parents take no notice well

We took a friend out for a birthday meal there. never again . Was greeted with a list of food they didn’t have . This list was longer than the food they did have . Asked for two teas . NO TEA . So not much choice we all had gammon , it was realy thin and dry ordered thin chips got chunky. The desert was the worst asked for bannofee as there wasn’t much else to have. There was one big piece of waffle stuffed in a glass small piece of ice cream and cheap cream on the top . I don’t know why they even bothered to open. Haveing said all of that the staff were very calm and I’m sure there were a lot of unhappy customers they had to deal with .so we’ll done to those lady’s.

Had a lovely meal, steaks were cooked well. Our server was Sam who is an absolute credit to the team. Nothing was too much trouble. She was really friendly, welcoming and accommodating.

Great meal at Haywain, Sue our waitress was fantastic, didn’t rush for the order and was very helpful with suggestions for our Daughter.Food was excellent, would recommend the steaks they were cooked perfectly for 4 different requirements, Matt (the chef) done a fantastic job.Would recommend for anyone wanting great quality food, it seems a rare thing now.

on a recent visit to the haywain beefeater we were served by the loviest waitress Sam she was extremely friendly and couldn't of been more helpful she really made our evening so enjoyable, we had a great meal with a nice astomosphere in the restaurant.we are looking forward to going again soon

Visited the restaurant this evening with 9 of my family. We were shown to our table, served our drinks and taken our orders. Enjoyed the meal and have to mention our waitress Annie who was excellent, friendly and efficient as was all the staff. A lovely evening in a really good place. Thank you to all of you.

Great food at great prices. It is a chain pub restaurant so don’t expect Michelin Dinning. But it’s good friendly service in a clean environment. Parking is plentiful but remember to register your car on arrival to avoid a ticket. To be fair staff do remind you at the door. Just put your reg into a device and your done. Use this restaurant on a regular basis and all has been well.

Visited the Haywain with friends and kids. Usually my favourite! Waited a while to be seated despite having a booking even though there were so many staff standing around and barely any customers. We were seated and I asked the waitress if I could order drinks and she said no I’d have to wait. Kids had orange squash that looked like weak apple juice and we were informed they had changed supplier so I had to buy my son an extra drink. Asked for salad on lasagne to be switched to fries which I have always been offered previously without even asking, but when I asked the waitress said I would have to pay full for an extra side. My friends chicken and bacon was dry and burnt and had to be sent back and she declined another meal as it put her off so much. My son didn’t eat his food either because it was dry and tasteless. Poured gravy on my friends sons dinner and it had white lumps in it. Staff were rude and snappy. Very disappointed.

We had a event locally and stayed in the adjoining Premier Inn for two nights, on the first night we decided to eat in the restaurant which we were apprehensive about as our 3 year old is autistic.The restaurant was quiet, clean, and the tables evenly spaced which was fantastic to see.Staff were helpful and friendly and put us at ease within minutes of entering the building.Our server, Karen, went above and beyond to assist us, and recognising our son had difficulties she gave us time to allow him to look at the menu and get settled.I personally thought the menu was lacking with food choices but then I've not visited a Beefeater previously so didn't know what to expect.The food we had was cooked to perfection and really tasty though.Overall for a family of 4 with two alcoholic drinks the bill came to just under £60, which we naturally added a tip to for the amazing service.We did also have the breakfast buffet on both mornings and despite being later than our allotted time the staff always managed to seat us and the food was really good!

Booked online table ready when we arrived, shown to the table our waiter was Kyle really helpful guy. He took our drinks orders no refills for the kids drinks today not a good thing when you have 3. Menu orders were taken after drinks delivery. My partner and I ordered two 8oz sirloin stakes medium well. Meals arrived in good time and we started, cut into our stakes and blood oozed form both, was not cooked to our preference. Kyle came back and apologised not his fault, took them straight back to the kitchen. Kids tucked into there's no problem. Ours returned and cooked to what we had ordered. Still felt disappointed no fault of Kyle’s the kids had finished their food and looking forward to desserts. desserts and second lots of drinks ordered no auto refills. All delivered in good time and enjoyed. It’s such a shame about the stakes we eat in there regularly once a month and normally no problem. Thanks to Kyle for sorting, it out and being very professional and friendly.

I've been to this place several times before and have enjoyed a reasonable meal, however this time was different, I ordered the "Luxury Lasagne" and it was miles from Luxury, it was awful......in hindsight I should've sent it back 🤦, I won't be rushing back

We had a pleasant evening the food was absolutely gorgeous and we were served by Sarah who was the best waitress by far she has only been there three months but she did that much of a fantastic job it was like she's been there for years thank you Sarah and Simon the manager is very good too, all very caring and well mannered highly recommended

Are in here last week for the first time . The pub was packed but my meal was served quickly. Food was of a good quality. Nice large beer garden with plenty of seating.

Jackie, our breakfast server this morning was so accommodating, nothing was to much trouble.Everything we needed was served with a smile 😃

Didn't eat in there....social distancing was fine. Beer choice was not good. It used to be a lot better. Decor is dire....no Atmosphere

Staying away from home is something I've done for circa 30 years. This establishment is managed very professionally with extremely competent, friendly and accommodating staff. I would like to highlight a certain member of staff for her attention to detail, professionalism and proficiency - Wendy.

I visited the Haywain with a friend for lunch, on the 15th June we were greeted at the door by a very polite man who introduced him self as Simon, he showed us to our table introduced us to the waitress who took our order she was very efficient and very polite, we had a lovely meal in fact the best meal we have had in a long time. On leaving the restaurant the manger whose name was Steve asked us if we were satisfied with everything which we reply to it was excellent he thanked us for coming and hoped that we would return and we most certainly would I would highly recommend this restaurant to all my friends and family very good atmosphere and very good value for money. Superb quality Sunday roast at a very affordable price at our local Beefeater. The variety was amazing and included half roast chicken, roast potatoes, root veg mash, garden peas, parsnips, carrots, green beans, Yorkshire pudding, stuffing and red wine gravy. It was refreshing to see cauliflower cheese included too as this is often only available in some restaurants as an extra / side choice. I couldn’t resist the apple crumble with custard for dessert as it rounded off this very traditional meal for me. Absolutely delicious. Hubby had a couple of “The Big Daddy Stein” (2 pints for £10) and we got to take the glasses home. Sue W looked after us brilliantly on this particular visit but I have to say that the whole team deserve praise for such excellent customer service over and over again. Thank you Steve and Team Haywain Beefeater.

If I could rate her a ten I would, she was an amazing server, kept us laughing and really appreciated her keeping us smiling and sorting our drinks and food - great member of the team!Yes Sam! Attended for lunch with family. Managed to get a table without booking. Sue W was our server and she was fantastic. She recommended meals for us and was just lovely. My mother in law has been nervous about eating out due to covid however Sue was great and managed to make her feel at home!Great service and lovely food with big portions.

Good service under current circumstances good of two of the four meals were warm not hot. They offered to re heat and was apologetic. Friendly staff. Good atmospheres lol round.

Had a family meal this evening. Very impressed with the waitress Annie and the quality and timing of the food’s arrival. All staff were very friendly and it was nice to see Steve’s face again. Looking forward to coming back again soon and I would recommend to other people looking to visit .

I went there last week with my grandparents and it was tasteful experience the waitress Elaine was kind the mangers were nice people especially the bar manger Brian.

Starter: Mushrooms and Calamari really good.Chicken with TRIPLE cooked chips, hardly cooked once, very disappointed with a plate of mush potato, chips are the easiest thing to cook, what went wrong. Maybe the person who cooked our chips can't count to three.Service was excellent

Ate at the haywain tonight for my mum and dads wedding anniversary our first time out as a family since October 2020! Abby was our waitress she was very attentive noticed when we needed refills and was very understanding that my six year old only eats chips! The food was delicious and very quick to come out felt very safe as well will certainly be coming back hope we get Abby next time!

Every other time I’ve been here it’s been flawless.Today however was awful.To start with, no hash browns!! On a breakfast menu.I asked for the egg white not to be runny. When the breakfast turns up, the egg white is runny, the beans are cold and the tomatoes are also cold !15 mins later, my replacement turns up. Same thing again.Runny whites !!The manager did take the breakfast off the bill but didnt seem bothered.Thoroughly dissatisfied

Our first meal out since the easing of lockdown at the Haywain last night 29th May. We love this place and use it regularly. We have never had a bad meal. Last night I tried the Truffle burger. It was cooked to perfection as was the chips and onion rings. My hubby had the tuna steak which he said was really nice. Our waitress Stevie, knows us well and again we received brilliant service. We like to take our time over our food and she instinctively knows when we want to order. Here's to the next visit (which won't be too long away). Keep up the good work, see you very soon.

We visited the haywain restaurant for lunch, it was my Nan first outing out for 18months as she’s housebound & due to covid it’s been too risky to take her out. We chose the haywain as this is her favourite place to eat with lots of variety offered on the menu. We chose fillet steak and it was cooked to perfection by the chef Matt, my sister ordered the truffle steak burger and again was delicious. All the food was served hot and the desserts were fresh and tasty too. We was very well looked after by our waitress Elaine, Nothing was too much trouble and she checked in on us frequently making sure everything was ok and offered regular drink top ups. My Nan was thrilled with her first outing and it made it extra special that the food and service was fab. Will be back again very soon.

This was our first visit this year and probably the last. we normally eat here a few times a year as a family of 6.on arrival was told I only had a booking for 3 yet my email confirmation was for 6. Reception guy was not happy and I didn’t feel he believed me. Aafter 20 minutes wait we were taken to a couple of tables to fit us in where we were told the following menu items was not available.Chicken this effects half the dishes on the menuTrio of FishBroccoliLasagna Fish and chipsBeef&doom pie This left steak or beef burgers Interestingly my son asked if the mixed grill had an alternative for the missing chicken the waitress seemed surprised by this request.The waitress did her best but seemed somewhat over worked.It is unlikely that we will be returning and I will no longer recommend this place as a good place to eat.

1st time out following covid relaxations. Booked as early as possible and joined by 2 friends for lunch. We arrived on time and after entering car registrations, sanatising hands, we were taken to the farthest table up some steps into a darkish corner. Menu's already on the tables, however no wine or drink menu's available. Server advised that there was no rump steak, that knocked two dishes off the already restricted lunch menu, leaving 4 sandwich/burger dishes, 3 spicy dishes, leaving either salad, gammon steak or fish & chips as main courses. Only one veggie dish which was one of the spicy ones. We therefore opted for the main menu. Of course once there you are charged the higher price for everything even if the starter was on the lunch menu. Our starters arrived and were lovely, hot and tasty. Mains arrived lukewarm, cold chips, undercooked (or not cooked) mushroom, cold ribs and lukewarm chicken. By the time our server got to ask if all was ok we had started eating, not her fault as she was covering lots of tables. We told her, she offered to get replacements, but, on looking around, there were not enough staff to cover the guests, there were plates of food standing under warming lights for way too long. Plus on booking we were advised the table was for a maximum of 2 hours. So after a £137 bill, we decided that the quality of the food most certainly didn't match the price. Extremely disappointed, it is such a shame because there is little else around there. The serving staff are wonderful, but, extremely busy and rushing everywhere, did not see a manager during our visit. What should have been a fun meal with friends we have not seen for months, turned into a damp expensive, let down. The management need to be aware of what is happening and step up.

I the food was quite poor pork ribs with hardly another sauce on the ribs I had smothered chicken the chicken was not smothered with enough cheese or bbq and I feel it's not 100 per cent chicken breast and they do not serve jacket spuds any more its chips with everything ...the server was very nice and efficient but the quality of food needs looking at ..

understand reduced menu in these times but food was over priced bland cold inedible not even proper chicken but a slab of tasteless chargrilled I don't know what?plate of food was visually unappealing and the small piece of corn on the cob looked like it had been cooked and left for a couple of days .Would not return.

As this was last night before closure under Tier 3 regulations it appeared quite busy and thus glad we had pre-booked. Could not get our normal good value meal deal as no breakfast feasible.Before we ordered told what dishes were unavailable. Ordered from the festive menu as we knew we would be unlikely to eat out over the festive period due to COVID restrictions.Meal of turkey and trimmings arrived reasonably quickly and was generally quite tasty, however plate was swimming in lots of thin gravy rather than being supplied separately.Roast potatoes and Yorkshire pudding were quite good for this type of chain restaurant.Brownie dessert was very pleasant but slightly sickly as lots of sauce added.Waitress took a long time to prepare final bill as she had mixed it up with an adjacent table. Once clarified we paid up and returned to our room as not allowed to continue drinking.

Regularly use the Haywain but some time since I reviewed.Booked at the height of Covid and was pleased to see that they have taken it very seriously with the distancing of tables and the use of masks/shields.Had the barbecued ribs and a sheer delight followed by a tasty crumble washed down with a pint of DoomBarOk it's not the 5 star restaurant that you could easily visit locally but like the atmosphere here and service is normally very good.Menu was quite limited (for obvious reasons) and look forward to the day that can revert back to normal

We come here every Tuesday for breakfast being school holidays we had our children today. Staff where all lovely very friendly and helpful to all our needs and wants.Please be aware that there breakfast times may change due to covid rules so best to call ahead dont blame the restaurant just some forward planning they cant up date websites every time the government changes their minds as some moaned in past posts.The breakfast was super yummy all served hot to the table.All orders were correct and tea and coffee followed by fresh juices delivered to the table as well.Very please with covid precautions felt very safe with one way walking system and hand sanitizer available at the door.We have also had dinner here never had a bad meal.See you soon

I am local to this restaurant and use it frequently for breakfast with friends and family. The breakfast selection is excellent and the service is friendly and accomodating. The last two visits, we were served by Jackie and she was friendly, attentive and nothing was too much trouble. Would highly recommend.

Arrived at 0930....Breakfast served until 1030 according to website.....We don't serve breakfast after 0900 according to greeter......not impressed and will not be returning

To be honest, I don’t often go to beefeater restaurants, but when visiting family we popped in for dinner. Mark, our waiter was absolutely terrific! My Father in law has sadly just been diagnosed with dementia leading to him being confused with the menu. He became agitated when he did not get what he imagined he ordered. Mark treated him with dignity and kindness and got his meal swapped, on the house, with little fuss and great professionalism. He is a credit to Beefeater chain and to the service industry as a whole. Thank you again for your kindness, which made the evening with family a pleasure.

We took our 4 young children away for a short break and stayed at the Premier Inn next door so went to beefeater. We had a lovely dinner, didn’t have to wait too long. The restaurant was busy but the food came out quickly and to a high standard. It was our first time eating out with the new Covid restrictions, but this didn’t make our experience any less. The staff were all lovely and were friendly and willing to help out with anything we needed. Our waitress was a lovely lady called Stevie. She made it such a nice experience for us and interacted with our children. Sometimes eating out with young children can be stressful but Stevie made us feel very welcome. Lovely meal and again lovely breakfast the next morning. Thank you, would definitely recommend this establishment. Great, friendly staff, no grumpy faces in sight!

What can I say. I am a creature of habit and normally order the same thing, but last night I had the salt and pepper squid to start, this was cooked to perfection. Then I had the minted lamb chops, again perfect, I thoroughly enjoyed them. Fantastic service from Sue W, always friendly, helpful and happy. No doubt we will be going back there again....a habit worth having

Lovely evening thanks to our wonderful waitress Victoria she made our evening so special just by being so good at her job. The food was great service excellent been visiting the haywain for many years now. Would definitely recommend this family friendly restaurant.

We had a last minute trip for some lunch. Very good covid precautions in place, one way system, hand sanitisers and screens between the tables. The servers wore mask at all times, we had excellent service from our waitress Katie. She was very helpful especially with sorting the babies food as he has allergies and finding out from the kitchen what the ingredients were.

had an early dinner here after shopping. Great covid secure procedures in place. one way system, hand sanitisers, and shields between tables etc. Service was very friendly but some choices on menu were not available after we had chosen and no prior info about what was not available. fillet steak was dry and mushroom and tomato nearly cold. My partners meal was very underwhelming. So very hit and miss. Well done for the service and measures in place though.

Absolutely lovely evening with quick and polite service from Elaine as well as hot and fresh food from the kitchen. Lovely atmosphere and absolutely outstanding service.

Where to start!!! Beginning of the month my partner and I visited for our anniversary and was served by the lovely Elaine! She was making sure our time at the restaurant was perfect and I could not fault one bit! Was gutted when Elaine's shift finished before we could tip her because she was an outstanding server!! So friendly too! Tonight me and my partner went again and we found we were sat at the same table and had Elaine again!!! We were thrilled so we could tip her for last time and tonight, the menu seemed to have had new things added so starting to ease the reduced menu so we had a lot more choice! You could tell the food was cooked fresh to order as it was piping hot when it arrived! The food itself lived up to its standard, my family are always a regular and find any excuse to go and I don't think we've ever had a bad experience It is also lovely to find out that when you tip your server they get the money directly even when paying by card!! Definitely visiting again in the near future, we were both rolling out we were so full!!

Went to The Haywain for lunch With my mum and boyfriend & Victoria was very helpful even when my boyfriend was being picky about his steak which was cooked lovely by Mike we gave compliments to the chef but completely forget to give Victoria a tip which we feel terrible about. We’ll be going back and hopefully Victoria will be there so we can give her double tip for the great service we got.

We booked a table here for 6.30pm Yesterday and arrived a few minutes early, but this was not a problem as our table was ready so we sat down early.Our Waitress, Vicki, came over and was lovely,indeed, throughout the evening she remained very pleasant and nothing was to much for her..The food came out and was spot on, the steak was done exactly as we wanted and the sticky toffee pudding was to die for..We had a lovely evening overall and will return, the food was lovely and the service we got from Vicki was a real winner.......

Have always gone to this restaurant for family dinners and we went there just after it re-opened. And as always the staff were very good even with the restriction that had been put in place to protect the customer's and staff members. Would recommend The Haywain for anyone wanting to go out for a meal in a relaxing atmosphere. The service and food was of a high standard.

We were a prty of five and for a couple of us it was the first time out after Lockdown. The restaurant had all the Covid precautions in place and the waitress was brilliant.

We had a great visit to the Haywain for a family birthday. Very well set out to handle customers safely as per Covid restrictions. Food was wholesome, good size portions etc. We received great service and attention by Sue W which made our visit.

After not eating out for 6 months due to the Covid outbreak, this was a very pleasurable experience made all the better by Sasha our waitress, felt safe and secure and the food was great as usual.

Went out for evening meal on the August bank holiday Monday. It was the last day of the eat out to help out Gov scheme. We ate calamari to start. Mains were the fillet steak and also the chicken with ribs. For deserts we had the apple Betty and the churros sundie. The food was good and we were given 50% off all food and soft drinks with no £10 off limit . So a surprise bargain meal at our regular local Beefeater.

My family of 5 had lunch here today, we was greeted with a welcoming smile at the door & taken too our table, which was wobbly, Our waitress Abby moved us straight away too a better table with no fuss, she continued too serve us our drinks & food making sure we had everything we need, Abby is an excellent waitress well presented always smiling & friendly, the food was fabulous the restaurant and toilets clean, we have eaten here before quite a few times and will definitely visit The Haywain again, highly recommended and if Abbys your waitress she will be an added bonus

Just wanted to leave a review as we visit every week me and my Dave as it is simply best place to chill out and have a lovely glass off wine with a great dinner or lunch! I would like to thank and recommend Steve Rose the Manager for his wonderful service this includes Sacha and Stevie the waitress who are spot on and very helpful with services and meals. And don't forget Brian on the bar who is very nice and cheerful. 5 stars place to go for a meal and some great service.

Came in for an afternoon catch up with friends and had a lovely meal. We were served by Sasha who was so attentive and friendly. Nothing was too much trouble for her and she recommended some great dishes. Service was quick and food was hot and tasty. Will be back!

La primera vez que hemos visitado este restaurante para unos 6 meses, ha ido cuesta abajo, aunque han tenido re vamp, sillas, etc. Es sólo cosmética, el servicio era pésimo, la lasaña era frío, que pedimos que nos cambiaran la comida volvimos con diferentes Chips en la placa. Los inodoros olía y no estaban limpias.

Stayed here for 2 nights and it really couldn't have been more different each night.The first night I booked a table via the Premier Inn and arrived in the restaurant on the given time only to be told by the slightly 'frosty' lady on the entrance that there were no tables currently and I would have to wait.I wasn't particularly bothered about waiting however her attitude was not great or welcoming and I ended up standing in the way of people entering and leaving the place, totally ignored until a table became available.I then ordered a diet pepsi with no ice, which is always a tester, and predictably it arrived with ice!I then ordered the Vegetable Linguine but when it came it was runny and a little watery and tasteless.The second night was totally different, this time there was a gentleman on the entrance and he was superb, welcoming me in, showing me to a table immediatley and also returning to ask if the table and the food were ok.I ordered the Linguine again as with it being Beefeater the veggie options are quite limited but this time when it came it was a totally different consistency and very tasty.I also got my diet pepsi with no ice!To top it off the gentleman who'd showed me in said goodnight as I left and wished me a good evening, all little touches that were very lacking in the lady the previous evening.One good point however is they do serve Costa Coffee within the restaurant which tastes as good as when you actually get it from a Costa shop, which isn't always the case.I scored a 3 overall but that consisted of a 1 for the first evening and a 5 for the second.

Having been here before, we know the meals can be a bit hit or miss. However, the last visit was review worthy. After offering a fillet steak, I discovered it was undercooked. I sent it back and it was returned with a fresh sauce and fries along with an a personal apology with the manager and waitress. The meals were great and service perfect. A huge contrast to our meal the following night at another local steakhouse which was twice the price and appalling.

Lovely warm atmosphere, welcoming staff, helpful server. Just as a good restaurant should be. The chicken and rib combo is a winner as are the steaks.

Shame to rate as poor, because it does have some redeeming features, without ever having a chance to achieve the heights.Clearly it is very popular - Large, buzzing, staff polite & efficient, varied menu, reasonable prices - so popular in fact that they don't feel the need for Promo Vouchers as they do at their other branches. But it doesn't reach out to me I would have to say, as I find it, at best, indifferent.On this visit, with Children & Grandchild, we ordered 3 Steaks & a Lamb. The latter was barely edible, & I had to send the 3 steaks back- All were badly (& wrongly)cooked, & so tough as to blunt the Steak Knife- I didn't want them replaced with another steak or even a different dish.In all fairness to them there was no argument & they removed the offending items from the bill, however, I have to remind them that they set themselves up as a specialist Steak House, & a restaurant only gets one chance to get it right else the whole experience is ruined - They simply need to do better!The Pub's OK though, so will go back for a drink -but to eat, I don't think so.

myself and my daughter visited The Haywain as we was in the mood for a sunday roast. We arrived at 11.40am and was abruptly told they didnt open till midday. Fair enough but this staff member didnt have the friendliest customer relations skills. A welcoming smile and much friendlier approach would have been nice. Anyway we was eventually seated by a much nicer staff member. We both opted for the crispy mushrooms which arrived with two little pots of dip. And that was it, they were tasty and hot and the dips were nice but there needed to be some sort of garnish on the plate too maybe some lettuce leaves and red onion. For mains i chose the beef roast and my daughter chose the chicken roast. The beef was actually very nice but i would have liked more of it at £10.99 a plate. The roast potatoes was nice (although not those lovely ones you find in some roasts where they are crispy on the outside and soft and fluffy in the middle with dark roasted skin etc) the swede and carrot mash was nice and nicely cooked green beans this was topped off with a yorkshire pudding. My daughter had half a roast chicken on her plate and it was very nice and plentiful. We also paid extra for a small bowl of caulflower cheese which feel for the price should be included. Now when our plates were brought over we actually thought they had forgot to put the gravy on ! Now i dont know if The Haywain has their gravy supply rationed or not or just that the chefs are very tight when handing out gravy but this was the smallest amount of gravy i have ever seen on a plate ! and it was actually hiding under the food ! we asked for more gravy and was rather amused when this came in a tiny jug......filled half way ! how odd. Anyway the dinner was nice but at £10.99 a plate needs more on the plate and not just gravy, It wasnt a good old hearty roast, For dessert i chose the salted toffee apple crumble with cream which was described as having a golden shortcake crumble or words to that effect however truth was the dessert was a let down. The crumble was horrible and in no way golden and it wasnt a nice crumbly texture either they were big boulders in it which wasnt nice and it was nasty however the apples were beautiful ! The lttle jug of cream was warm and when i tasted it, it tasted off so i left it (and i cant beleive i didnt complain) my daughter said her cookie dough sundae only had one piece of cookie dough in so thats rather bad. The Haywain is ok but it could do alot better

This is the second time I've been here since it was refurbished and it hasn't gotten any better, the first time was not great simply because however you order your steak they always over do it, I asked for medium rare and got well done, so the second time I asked for rare and oddly got medium rare - come on guys, get it right? Also on the second visit I noticed they did 'unlimited' fries, word of warning here folks - this is a very unique feature owing to the fact that they're act not actually 'unlimited' at all, that's a lie as even if you ask repeatedly for your next serving of these mysterious fries they never actually turn up, which leaves you with the sparrow portion that you get on the plate. Yeah, very funny but, that's not what 'unlimited' means guys. So then we get to pay our bill and we were due change from our cash payment which we waited for patiently till we realised that our wonderful waitress had simply pocketed as a tip even though we never ever said keep the change! Thanks for that beefeater, and thanks for doing nothing about it too when we asked the manager, his limp and gormless reply was 'I'll have a word' great. So we move to the bar and as I'm driving I get a lemonade, I'm asked if I'd like refills which I did, then whether it was a pint or normal size, I took a pint as I do like a lemonade. Oddly this 'refill' feature is just like the 'unlimited' chips thing in that - yep you guessed it- its actually NOT refillable. Hmmm, there's a pattern forming here.... When I went to get a top up I was told by another bar person that 'pints are not refillable' wow, is that the only reason? What difference could it possibly make to their refill policy if I have a pint or regular? And if that's so then why not tell me when I order? Sorry beefeater/haywain or whatever else you call yourselves but you really did get everything wrong that night. This place clearly has issues and is best steered clear of.

Good place to visit for a moderately priced meal at lunch time. If you choose from the lunch time menu all meals are under £10 approximately. Staff are friendly and service is not rushed. When we visited on a Wednesday the restaurant was packed so it pays to book in advance. The car park charges £1 for three hours which is refunded when the bill is paid. The main menu offers a broader choice at slightly higher prices.

Can't remember the last time I went to a beefeater. There must have been a reason for this. Only memorable change since then was the logo - which kind of told me it may be worth a revisit. Checking the menu online it was noticeable it was a bit more expensive than Harvester. Harvester is not somewhere we go because we like it. More of because we can't be bothered to cook and the food is convenient. Fills a hole. I figured as this was slightly more expensive then that would have reflected in the food. Starters we had: 5, not really, spicy meatballs with a bit of lambs lettuce with 4 slices of toasted bread. £5.99. Really dull and rip-off at the price. Garlic Prawn Pan. Hardly any sauce and chunk of cold bread on side. It was okay. £6.29. Passable. Main course: Duo of beef. Beef short rib was mostly fat and gristle falling off the bone and the smoked brisket which was dry as a bone. Advertised as 'A beef lovers dream'. Too funny! Chips turned out to be the best thing on the plate and coleslaw came a close 2nd. £19.99. Not good value at all and to be avoided. That rib was rank! We also had a Chicken Escalope. It was huge! Don't know what breed of chicken it was but they battered it flat with a mallet and breaded it to hide whatever bird it was. Must have been about 25x15x1cm in shape! Really oily garlic whatever on it with bacon and fried egg on top. Best bit was the egg. Chicken was just too greasy. A squashed Kiev. Had cheese on it apparently, but don't know where that was come to think of it. £12.49. Ok for price and if your don't care about food. Had a tiny salad with it. Limp. Lifeless. We skipped desert and drove back home with haste. Decided we had more interesting things living in our freezer at home. Overall this is no better than Harvester yet more expensive. Really... You'd eat better at McDonald's or Burger King and save £££. How anyone gives this 5* I don't know. Each to their own I guess. Will wait until they change their logo before my next visit. Hope that's not too soon.

Nephew under three got served last at table, my chicken was not cooked properly but if I stopped eating nephew would not have eaten his meal, noisy and not all conversation appropriate for children
