The Hare in Tunbridge Wells

The unfortunate thing is that you don’t get much for your money. I thought that I would treat myself to the halibut, it was nearly £27 and I got the smallest piece of tail end of fish that I’ve ever been served with one piece of tortellini. The dish was tasty but it was served in a huge bowl with not very much in it and I was still hungry afterwards :0(

Had a very nice meal with some girlfriends, service and food was excellent, spent a little longer than we should, but we were not rushed in anyway.

Atmosphere and ambience is excellent. Three different meals were all given top marks. Hot and tasteful, but then should be at the price. Yes, service was a little slow but we don’t mind that if the end product has been cooked to perfection. Everyone else around us clearly enjoyed their meals too.

Visited to celibrate a birthday, the menu has plenty of choice and the staff were friendly and attentive without gong over the top.

We visited on Valentine’s Day. My partner ordered a chicken burger which apparently came with pancetta. His burger came with the tiniest bit of bacon I could ever see (it’s embarrassing that they even served it) , a tea spoon of coleslaw and an extremely small portion of fries. Considering their prices have gone up and that meal was nearly £20 I would expect a much bigger portion. Very disappointed. It’s definitely gone down hill which is a shame.

Disappointed dogs are only allowed in the bar area, kind of spoilt things for us. Extremely expensive for what you get, ordered bhajis that were £7.95, recieved two and they were absolutely tiny. Nice looking pub though and the lady behind the bar was friendly and polite.

A lovely looking pub with small dining rooms and a conservatory, which is where we ate. Service was very good and quite speedy. It was quite busy, so obviously popular. I would recommend the small puddings and drinks combo which is approximately £8. Mains were over-priced imo. We don't live locally so probably won't go again.

Was a really nice pub and restaurant. The service was really good and the food was really good and the fish in the fish and chips was massive I managed to take it home for my dinner as well as half of it for lunch and the cheesy garlic bread was amazing. Some of best I have ever consumed I would defininitly recommend the cheesy garlic bread to anyone coming here and overall was just really good. Would defininitly recommend it to anyone going here.

The atmosphere is cozy and beautiful. The service is very friendly 😉. The food is not that good but if you want to have a nice time drinking something it is a good place.

Came all the way from Somerset to Kent just to have Butcombe ale!

I live in USA and this is the second time going to this restaurant here in Tunbridge Wells. Nice ambience and great service. Food is amazing. We ordered fish and chips, grilled sea bass, steak burger and lentil pie. Everything tasted excellent. We went 10mins before the kitchen closed and still they were very patient and didn’t feel rushed.

We've just had a Boxing day dinner here and we chose the 2 courses for £42.95. The pork main and the apple tart was very nice but my goodness the portions were small. 1 roll of pork, small piece of crackling, 1 carrot, 1 ball of potato, some kale and 1/2 a teaspoon of apple puree. Apple tart was with ice cream in a nice caramel/toffee sauce, but again really small. I was initially worried about being able to eat 2 courses as I usually only eat a main, but I've actually come away wanting more to eat.

We had a great lunch together yesterday with very good food, just one thing is still quizzing me, why was my main course so much smaller than my partners? Same Christmas menu....

Visited The Hare yesterday as part of a pre christmas family lunch, lovely pub. Great staff. The food was superb, i had the venison pie, which was incredible. If it wasn't so far away, I would be back again next weekend.

Appalling food, mediocre service, terrifically expensive. Had jack fruit curry which had no taste, far too much chilli powder and sloppy. Cheese board pathetic - I rather think the board itself would have had more taste. Really disappointed. Pub is nicely done out though

Lovely place to relax indoors or outside. The service is great but it can be a little pricey compared to other local pubs. The food is very tasty. Visited again after the refurb 26th Nov 2023, had a cider. The bar menu was good but way over priced. Warm bread and Olive Oil £6.45, Dirty Fries £5.95, fries were standard but still.

Great ambiance and friendly staff

Nicely located at the crossroads in Langton Green. However this does make parking a bit messy for those who don't know the area. Official pub parking spaces are limited so it's first come, first served. Always reliable for its food, especially the main meals. Some lunch menu items such as sandwiches are generally less good, if I'm honest. The biggest negative though is the price of drinks. This pub is one of the most expensive in the area, unfortunately. Overall though other factors win through, such as Becca the manager, hence my 5 stars.

It’s a friendly place, we have been coming here for over 25 years. Recently they have refreshed the decor, with old adverts and period pictures. The food is good solid pub food. I had the steak and ale pie, others had the Thai curry and the beef salad. The warm bread starter was delicious. The fact that dining is in a series of small rooms adds to the attraction. They have a range of cask beers, a must for any pub.

I would love to work here as a youngster all the staff do is hang around and giggle all lunchtime rather making an environment for customers I would love to get paid to gossip at the bar all day surely there’s other things to do Food was okay The hake skin could have been cooked and the beetroot was hard All I could hear was jades laugh when I was trying to relax

A famikly get together for lunch, and The Hare hit the spot. Friendly and efficient staff, and a tablenin the conservatory overlooking the Autumn colours of the trees. I had a very good fillet steak ciabatta, with a pint of Long Man.

Lovely family visit here last night. I like my food super-hot and the table staff were quite happy to take my meal away and prepare another when I asked if my dish could be heated up. And adjusted the bill because I needed to wait. Wide variety of dishes to choose from, warm & inviting atmosphere

Part of the acclaimed Brunning & Price chain of gastro-pubs, the Hare has typically excellent ambience and decor, slick service with lots of attentive waiting staff and first rate food, although our main course was uncharacteristically slow to arrive, for which they did apologise and it was Sunday lunchtime rush hour. The only gripe is the inadequate parking at such a popular venue. The pub has a few free spaces outside otherwise you have to find free on-street parking nearby. There are residential side-roads off the A264 either side of the nearby Esso petrol station going east towards Tunbridge Wells you can park in which are a short walk back if all else fails. Highly recommended.

Wonderful lunch here today, roasted hake was beautiful my partner had crispy chilli beef salad which was equally lovely. Food is always 10/10

Lovely family lunch for mum's birthday. The place was absolutely packed and we were a table of 8, yet the service was brilliant and attentive rather than rushed and chaotic. Sadly didn't get the name of the lady who served us, but she was so patient, gave advice and recommendations and took a picture for us and was smiley and welcoming. All our meals came out together. The food was lovely with good quality ingredients, and the portion sizes generous. Thank you to all staff at The Hare, we look forward to our next visit.

Really warm and welcoming atmosphere, mixed crowd of young and old, kids and dogs etc. lovely! Food was great, made with love and seasonal vegetables and nice sauces and chips. Drinks good, had a great red wine with my steak. Book a table in time. It’s often booked out on the weekends!! Came back recently and had Burgers with chips, really nice meat and tasty chips.

Have been coming here for years. Always loved the place. However prices have gone up and portions have got smaller? Just look at this £16 risotto ie basically a plate of rice. Small portion! Why not be a bit more generous?!

Met up with some very old friends for lunch. Sat in Conservatory . Very limited Menu and expensive. Service wasn’t as good as it used to be

Really poor experience. Not only the prices have drastically gone up but The meal was nothing to write home about. The service was appalling. Shame this used to be one of our favourite spots for a Sunday lunch. Would not recommend at all

Fantastic. The food was some of the best we had in England. The pea soup was fought over by the kids, and I’d be happy to eat the chicken pie once a week till I die. Great green put the front for kids to burn energy. Easy parking.

Truly woeful main meal. ! My friend and I met up for a lunch as it’s been quite a while ! We both ordered Sea Bass ( £21). Well I know it sounds strange but it tasted fishy and small. This based my own experience means it’s rather old and simply not fresh. The portion size was truly a joke. We didn’t say anything at the time because it would have ruined our gathering tbh. This is simply not good enough and much needs to be done to bring it up to standard. Another pub going downhill with very poor value and poor quality of food. The dessert was ok. But I am now very inclined not to go back ! We need to lift our game in this country that’s all I know. Your supplier of so called fresh fish also needs the royal boot !

Lovely Sunday dinner at The Hare. The roast lamb and the nut roast were excellent. The staff and service were also excellent.

Evening meal. The gentleman staff member on arrival until our departure was fantastic. Very helpful with the food selection. Mother in law is a fussy eater. She was very happy. The prices are good, the quality was excellent. Best to reserve. All the staff were friendly and professional. Highly recommended.

You will love it, especially for a group of friends dinning together. Not expensive if they can provide such service, very good indeed.

Great pub, friendly staff and good food

My wife and I had an evening meal here on 27th July 2023 to celebrate her birthday. One of the reasons we chose the Hare is that they have a good selection of vegetarian meals as my wife does not eat meat. The food was excellent, all cooked to perfection. We were also very impressed with the service. The waitresses were very friendly and extremely efficient. We will certainly be coming back.

Visited a couple of weeks ago for Sunday dinner. The pub is lovely with a good choice of food, the service speed really let's itself down though. After ordering, we waited over an hour before receiving our starters. We had to ask the staff where our food was. Then we had another approx 45min wait until our mains were served where we had to ask the staff again. It didn't seem particularly busy for a Sunday so not really sure what the hold up was. There was also a delay in drinks where we had to remind the staff. I had squid to start and ham and leek pie for mains which were both really lovely. The brownie for dessert was served cold, would have been much nicer warmed through. Staff were very nice and removed the dessert from the bill for the inconvenience as we hadn't planned to stay so late as we had a 5 month baby with us. Would return with hope of quicker service

Myself, my Wife and very good friend had a gorgeous meal here tonight and our Dog was made very welcome too. The Service and the Food were outstanding and I'm looking forward to going back soon 😀

Such a shame as I thought post refurb the food would be better. The starter was fine but the mains were poor. Lack of care taken with both the cooking and the presentation. Will not return

Haven't been for some time. Wasn't disappointed, welcoming staff, good food, and great service.

Went here for lunch. Menu varied and good choices. The only thing here is the portion sizes are very generous. Especially the two dishes I had, the prawns with chilli sauce and the Chicken Caesar Salad. The bowl it sat in was huge but the amount of food was questionable. The view out the back on a hot sunny day is fab across the green though.

Always good for a pint, sitting out the back offers the kids a great place to play and tire themselves out on the green.

Wow..Simply Wow. Had lunch today and was subjected to the most appalling behaviour by someone called Evi, Avi?? She threw our lunches down and we had to ask for our drinks no less than three times. I have no idea what we did to offend her but we eventually had to walk out as it became too uncomfortable for my guests... we also didnt pay... Truly appaling. I cannot recommend this pub in any way and we wont be back. Awful

Great pub which does very very good food! Lovely setting, loads of outdoor space, parking is limited but can park close by when car park is full. Staff very good and helpful. We call into here when working in the area at times and it's never disappointed.

Food was delicious Service was great can't comment on pricing this time as a week has passed can't remember exactly as we were having family celebration although (it was traditional Sunday Roast.) Not paid by me.

Food was decent, starter portion (smoked salmon) very unfulfilling. Bread served with the French Onion soup was tasteless and the butter provided could have benefitted from some sea salt. The mixed roast beef/porchetta was alright. Flavour wise nice, but again the portion size let it down. Had to ask for more roast potatoes for the table as they were a bit tough and sparse. The second batch were better. Service was attentive but not all servers were overly friendly or smiley. One guest enjoyed their fish and chips and another enjoyed the roast lamb. The bill was expensive bearing in mind some of us left not feeling like we ate that much and we only had one alcoholic drink each probably.

Lovely sitting in the conservatory on a lovely warm evening best food very courteous staff, generally worth every penny highly recommend.

Excellent posh pub, the food was excellent and reasonably priced. The venue is being closed for a week for a refresh and looking forward to returning when it's all done.

Julian served us and was very clear in explaining the local beers available as well as details regarding providence of the menu. He also was very helpful in giving information regarding the local area, his service was excellent. The food was excellent value for money and we will happily recommend your pub to our friends and family.

Went to the Hare last Friday night and the service was appalling. We arrive there quite late and it was definitely a last minute thing... However, it was quite apparent that both the manager (didnt get his name) and one of the staff (Avi?) were intoxicated and just couldnt care less about us, the customer. We waited 30 mins beore we got a menu and another 30min before we gave up I have never been so shocked in a restaurant before... Wont be back

Four came on Friday the 14/4 it was a birthday celebration, 2 off us arrived after myself and my partner who is in a wheelchair after a few minutes we were seated and ask if we would like a drink, the rest of the party...

We decided to try the Hare as we’d passed it a few times without stopping. On this occasion we decided to stop, in hope food was being served - it was 4:30pm and we hadn’t eaten at all! We were given a table straight away...

Friendly service but the meat was very chewy and caused my friend to choke! ...overdone!
