The Happy Chef in Dover

We've been coming here for years. All the food is very well presented & good quality too. Breakfast is absolutely wonderful, really well cooked to exactly what we request. Rest of the food is great too but breakfast is our thing! The smoothies are the best I've had locally. Staff are all really friendly, it's very clean with a surprisingly interesting view considering the road it's on. There are outside tables so you can sit in the sun.

Lovely clean cafe . Not a greasy spoon , pretty simple menu but always tastes great . Poached eggs are cooked perfectly . The staff are super friendly and always polite and smiley . Would recommend .

Great ingredients, well cooked, nice environment and good customer service. Best breakfast in the area imo. (I had small breakfast with beans + 2 hash browns and fried bread, 1x Americano 1x sparkling water) really enjoyable and will be returning with family members..

Bevor wir zu unserer Fähre aufbrachen, konnten wir mal wieder im Happy Chef frühstücken- es lohnt sich. Ein original englisches Frühstück- auch für Veggies gibt es hier ganz frisch zubereitet. Kaffee und Zee sind heiß und frisch, die Bedienung sehr freundlich. Meist findet man in direkter Nähe einen Parkplatz. Der perfekte Ort um einen Englandurlaub zu starten oder enden zu lassen…

Mixed thoughts about this cafe. Food was great and worth five stars. A star down as a couple of issues: Slip up with no bacon when bacon was ordered (soon rectified). It took a little longer than it really should have done to plate up considering that it wasn't busy. However, the quality of the food when it did arrive made up for everything. The golden eggs, butchers sausages etc that you wouldn't find in your standard greasy spoon. I would definitely like to come back (and most likely will) but not if I was in any sort of rush afterwards.

It was our first visit to The Happy Chef and we thoroughly enjoyed our breakfasts and coffee's. Very tasty food, nice and hot too. Have to say, it's the best breakfast we've had anywhere for a long time and definitely the best in Dover. The service was excellent and the staff very friendly. Hope to visit again soon.

We visited this cafe for a quick lunch after a ferry crossing from France, and were very glad that we did. Service was warm and friendly; food was tasty and good value for money.

Always heard good things about this place, never been. Won a voucher for breakfast for two in a raffle, so we went along. Not disappointed. Very friendly welcome, good food, clean, happy atmosphere. Clearly some regulars in there too, which is always a good sign. Happy to recommend!

Amazing food and great welcome here. Food is so tasty and the chef has real ability in creating exciting appetising breakfasts and brunches. Chips (fries) to die for here and omelettes par excellence! Meat products such as sausages, burgers, ham etc are top quality. The most beautifully presented and super fresh salads. Drinks variety good Ruth home made smoothies on offer. Coffee experts can rely on well roasted coffee beans and authentic full flavoured espressos. It really is a treat to come here time after time. Great management and servers.

Went here based on the reviews and were not disappointed. As well as the standard breakfast, we ordered a small and a vegetarian. All delicious! As well as great food the service was fabulous. There were a few things that weren’t our preference on our respective breakfasts, and alternatives were immediately offered, without prompting. So many places these days don’t allow you to deviate from the menu so this was a delightful change. The cafe itself was clean,bright and a lovely place to eat. We ordered the smoothies which were a nice touch and they were great. The only thing I would change, and this is my complete personal preference, is that the veggie sausages were quorn based and I prefer a vegetable based sausage. Having said that, it was definitely one of the nicer quorn available. Other than that, the veggie breakfast was excellent, well thought out and not a poor relation to the standard breakfast, which it so often is. Thank you!

If you like a lovely, freshly cooked breakfast this is the cafe to be in! The drinks were hot (some places serve so called hot drinks & seem warm when they arrive). The breakfast my hubby had ordered looked (& tasted very nice), I had sausage on a barm & it was delicious. The food wasn’t cooked in fats/steeped in any oils, it was grilled because I asked how it had been cooked as I left. Cannot fault this place, the staff were polite & the place was spotless. 10/10

I'll keep it simple.... 1 egg, 1 bacon, 1 sausage, 1 hash brown, 1 slice of toast, a few mushrooms & beans & a can of drink £9.70. Small portion size with no tea or coffee so although fresh, definitely not worth the price tag.

A friend and I hopped off the train looking for something quick, yummy, and easy. This was the perfect spot! Authentic english breakfast and delicious milkshakes made our morning. Highly recommend!

A brilliant wee cafe hidden at the front of Dover. Staff were extremely friendly, approachable and helpful throughout. I went with my family and my parents before a day on the seafront we had the English breakfast and it was extremely enjoyable the food was all cooked to a high standard and tasted amazing. The beans on toast for my 3 year old son were equally good and he seemed to thoroughly enjoy them. I would definitely return next time I’m in Dover.

On the way back to Deal, stopped here..2 teas and shared chips. Cafe really clean, service great, lovely chips ( a must in a cafe)..then looked at menu..am definitely going back..as well as traditional cafe meals I spotted one with salmon, spinach and avocado..wow !

We have driven past this place many times but didn't realise it had been updated. Its a good sized cafe with some free parking in the road otside. Simply but nicely furnished. Toilets were clean. Kitchen is open, so they aren't hiding anything. 5 star...

My favourite place to go for a delicious full cooked breakfast. Always tasty, brilliant service from the staff and happy to accommodate changes to the breakfasts. You won't find a tastier, well priced breakfast.

During a stay in Dover we had breakfast here after finding it on TripAdvisor. The place is very clean and the staff friendly. The food exceeded our expectations and is reasonably priced.

Returning from Calais the Happy Chef hit the spot again. Not wanting to eat on the ferry we dropped into this oasis on Dover's front. 3 Full English breakfasts tea and toast, not a drop of grease in sight! All for £25. Set us up for our drive back to Scotland. Well worth the visit. We'll be back soon☺

First time coming here for breakfast very nice food and clean restaurant with polite staff. Only gripe maybe a bit over priced on the farmhouse. Staff polite. But overall I would recommend.

After a delayed ferry crossing and a very rough sea we needed food and quick. We almost defaulted to Wetherspoons but fancied good food so took TripAdvisors advice and tried Happy Chef. So glad we did. The breakfast was lovely and the girls were really efficient and friendly. Thanks. X

Went for a late breakfast wow just wow food service all of it perfect. I had the salmon on toast with egg and spinach delicious may have been better on a muffin just an idea. Breakfast coffees all first class.

This was the perfect spot for breakfast. Right across from the marina and down the hill from Dover Castle. The restaurant is clean and the staff were friendly. The food was great with lots of options. Definitely recommend this place.

Lovely atmosphere , lovely food. Deffo going again . There was a group of French cyclists in there and they ordered 12 full English breakfasts and 12 coffees. It was dealt with very quickly and efficiently which was impressive. We booked so as not to be disappointed. My son loved his fully loaded bap. Next time we are in Dover we will go back again. We ate here last year and was back in Dover again this year. So we called into the The Happy Chef for breakfast. The staff were very polite and the cafe was clean as previous visit. Food was all cooked as we requested. There is parking outside.

Friendly staff, place nice and clean. I had a full english breakfast which I only just managed to finish, allthough some tea was still in the pot after 2 cups. My son had a baked spud with tuna which again he only just finished. The food was freshly cooked and the prices very reasonable. I would recommend.

Visited early morning after getting off the ferry. My husband had the full English and l had the little English. Both were lovely, staff were very friendly.

Popped in for a quick lunch before heading to the Dover Castle. Food was tasty. Bother he burger and chicken burger were cooked well and yummy. Fries were piping hot. The one downfall was the milkshake. More like just plain milk flavoured with strawberry syrup.

Fantastic breakfast yesterday, especially after a walk over Dover cliffs to North Foreland Lighthouse and back. In fact, it was that good that we came back this morning as well. Staff were great and very helpful. Highly recommend this cafe if your in the area.

This place is such good value! Clean, light and bright, spacious, and excellent service. And a very good very reasonably priced breakfast! Next time we're in Dover we'll be trying it for lunch!

We stopped by here to eat breakfast and were pleasantly surprised. The food is super fresh, yummy and fresh. Salmon with cream cheese baguette was huge and ultra delicious and only 3 pounds. Tuna ciabatta was very fresh and nice tasting. Great cappuccino as well. The cafe front faces the marina and adds to the nice atmosphere. Overall, this was a superb experience.

The Happy Chef is a very nice little cafe. The food is well cooked and nothing is too much trouble. If you're stuck in the queue outside waiting for the ferry, stop off and get something to eat you won't be disappointed.

Food was pretty good, but not liking mushrooms they wouldn’t change them for hash browns, when asked we don’t change items you either have to pay extra or just not have them but still pay full price, well that certainly put a damper on proceedings. I’ve never ever in my life been to a cafe and I’ve been to hundreds that have refused to change an item. Crazy. Other than that the food was ok, toast was forgotten about though and finally turned up once we had finished eating.

Visited on route to France, having read great reviews. We were not disappointed. Across 4 people, we had a full range of breakfast offerings from small breakfast, full English, Farmhouse and breakfast in a bap. All food freshly cooked to order, good quality and a perfect start to a long day travelling across France. Children left with fruit smoothies whuch were also excellent. Well worth stopping, and only a short hop to the ferry port.

Was very nice but they will not let you change an item on set menus. Not good when you dont like mushrooms or black pudding. If you want to change you have to pay for the change. Well that's technically theft. Didn't bring toast out either. Very poor visit. Won't return in a hurry.

Found this as breakfast alternative to expensive hotel. It is a little gem. Very attentive waitress. Excellent menu choice and good price. Food was served quickly. The food is top quality, little touches such as cut chives on fried egg certainly give it a professional look.

Great standard cafe fare of the English variety with various manifestations of the good old English breakfasts. Not a greasy spoon though and not just English breakfast e.g: jacket potatoes. Something for all the family in a clean environment at reasonable prices.

A really enjoyable visit. A good sized menu with lighter and vegetarian options. I had the full English. The food looked really appetising on the plate, crispy bacon, golden egg yolks and thick cut toast. I think the standard of the produce was higher than other local breakfast places. The taste seemed to confirm this, especially with the black pudding.

For a cafe, the food quality is extremely good and serving staff welcoming and helpful. English breakfast was perfectly cooked and better quality than most cafes I have had breakfast in. The menu is varied...excellent omelettes are available after 1100. Home made fruit smoothies are very popular. This has to be one of the best breakfast venues in East Kent

Been in this cafe loads of times , always been really nice. This time I wasn’t that hungry and only wanted a child’s meal. They said I could only have it if I ordered double the amount. So just ha d a hot chocolate, which was really nice. Wife had a jacket potato that was dry and uninspiring. Won’t bother coming back any more. Tip for cafe. Listen to what your customers want and try and accommodate them.

Visited here with my partner to start out trip in Dover and enjoyed a great omelette and Americano. Surprised when we received our food to see that it cell with a delicious side salad and chips. Even the toast was great. Very light and clean atmosphere too. Highly recommend you start your day here!
