Very disappointing experience, after all the hype this turned out to be an inauthentic, tasteless hipster joint instead of a proper Vietnamese restaurant. We tried several menu items, but aside from the banh mi (which was good) the rest was just a comedy of errors. Shitty satay (bad sauce and presented in a bowl, for maximum discomfort when eating), lifeless pho (avoid the pink cabbage) and gross fish cakes made for an expensive and unsatisfactory meal. The ambiance is sort of nice for five minutes, but the tables are small and make for uncomfortable seating, the toilet is more like a diorama of a toilet than an actual toilet and the whole place is hot and unpleasant. In other words: either get your Banh Mi to go, or just avoid this place altogether.

I’ve now been to Hanoi Bike Shop three times and each return was worse than the last. On this occasion the food was fine, the drinks were alright, and the service shocking! The dishes come as and when they are ready, ok, but an hour for what is effectively noodle soup to be served is just ridiculous! By the time my meal arrived everyone else in our party had finished. It also took the server twenty minutes from being seated to offer us a drink. Embarrassingly poor service. I could have forgiven this (maybe) if the food had been good but it wasn’t, it was fine and fine isn’t what you want when eating out. In short, there is a Tesco around the corner selling pho kits. You’ll get your dinner quicker and it will be just as good.

Visited for lunch, during a trip to Glasgow last week. WOW! Absolutely delicious from start to finish, the “best tofu in Glasgow” certainly lived up to its name, in fact best tofu I’ve had. Beef pho was full of flavour, and the chicken satay was Devine. Great location and vibe, with Fantastic service from Jareen!! Thank you for a wonderful visit!! Highly recommend!! (I will be dreaming of the tofu for a long time!)

Disappointing experience. Very lengthy wait between arriving and finally ordering a drink. It was explained that the food would arrive as and when it was ready- this concept only really works with sharing plates, not when you are encouraged to order a starter and a main. For us, it meant again a very lengthy wait between dishes. Half the party had finished their main before others had received their first dish. If it had been explained that they were short staffed, we would have understood. However there was little in the way of an apology or any explanation. We only were afforded the opportunity order a drink once, meaning a long time waiting for dishes with nothing to drink. We won’t be back.

I've been here twice but now wouldn't go again. The first time was good (though it was after a couple of drinks) but the most recent time was really disappointing. We both had the vegan pho, but the tofu tasted stale and was cold in the middle. The coating wasn't crisp and felt almost bready. It seemed like it had been sitting around for a while before being put in the soup. I raised this with the server - which I never do, but the tofu really was so bad - and they said it wasn't crisp because it was in the broth. I've eaten and cooked a lot of tofu in my time and wasn't convinced. This did not taste like tofu that has recently been crisp but had soaked up broth, not least because it had a stale texture on arrival. We were also waiting around for a while after coming in through the door, which was confusing and almost made us go elsewhere, which we probably should have done.

Came here for dinner with my lovely family and some friends. Great dining experience, not only is the food good but the restaurant has a beautiful rustic atmosphere to it. Price wise the Hanoi bike shop isn’t cheap but considering what is served its more than worth it. If they charged less they’d be at a loss as far as i can tell they use top class ingredients only. Obviously having gone in a large group i spent more than i normally would, but even said that its still very fair. Anyway would highly recommend. Its fantastic!

Would not recommend and will not return. Unbelievably overpriced and portions are very small. They also operate a "your food will arrive when it's ready", which resulted in eating every dish one after the other - nothing arrived at the same time. We also had a voucher to use, however due to an ongoing promotion, the staff could not add our voucher in conjunction with this. Even though the table booking asks for the voucher code online, we were not informed about this at any point until we asked for the bill. Poorly handled by staff who couldn't have cared less about the situation.

Our first time trying Vietnamese food with their 50% pho & pot & grill meals. Really yummy food & great value at 50% off! The steak bavette was a little underwhelming, needed a bit of rice or something for the price. The beef pho (I got extra noodles & an egg) & the ginger caramel chicken were really good! Loved the food, not much atmosphere inside which is why I rated it quite low on atmosphere. However, a good spot for a cold day!

"You won’t find tofu like ours anywhere else in Scotland " Partner booked it for our anniversary, we got there and got told they don't have tofu today 😂 The disappointment when you're vegetarian and got hyped up for that "best tofu" in Scotland. After driving ages from the other side of Glasgow and wasting petrol. Doesn't take much to either post it on Instagram story or email customers so they don't waste their money on fuel. Especially that a lot of people would be coming for that tofu. Definitely put us off trying this place. Anniversary date ruined 😂 The smell in there was very off putting as well. It was awful. But the boy that talked to us was very lovely and I completely understand that it's not his fault that the place that prides itself in their tofu, doesn't have any. Definitely 5 stars to the boy. He was trying his best to come up with recommendations of where we could go instead.

Located in the hipster enclave. Had a light lunch of their fishcakes. Was pleasantly surprised at how meaty and springy the fishcakes were (other establishments add too much flour and fillers to cut costs and they end up hard and rubbery). The fishcakes were panfried and crispy on the outside. Friendly service. Industrial/rustic/Viet decor. An enjoyable meal.

Had been about ten years since visiting Hanoi Bike Shop. It’s in a great location down a little lane and has a cute interior, good music and service was not bad at all. The food was that kind of British-Vietnamese fusion and was just OK. The prices are absolutely extortionate however. Steer clear of the fish cakes in the street food menu as £13 for 3 measley potato smiley sized salty fish cakes is a complete and utter rip off - that’s what you would expect to pay in Chelsea or Knightbridge, not Glasgow. Mains from the 'grill' menu hover around the £18-20 mark and are relatively filling but again the overpowering flavour is of salt and not much else and don’t feel there is value for money here. I haven’t tried the pho but have heard it’s good… maybe that’s where I went wrong.

Bathroom upstairs was disgusting and hadn’t been cleaned all day which was confirmed by cleaning form that didn’t have a single entry at 9pm ( as well as what appeared to be pee and what was definitely toilet paper all over the floor). We had the caramel chicken which came lukewarm, coating soggy yet extremely dry chicken thigh. Someone else in our party had the steak which was okay. Drinks so sweet we couldn’t drink them. No longer a favourite. I absolutely loved the Pho here and whenever I came back to Glasgow it’s was the only place I wanted to eat at. Whatever corners the new owners are cutting it’s definitely shows in the quality of the food. Never had a pho that bland in my life it was very disappointing and if things don’t go back to how they used to be then I don’t see this place sticking around too much longer. Don’t get me wrong I love this place and we did try some other items but I loved the old place this is little more than a Nock off of the original since it got bought over. I can see I’m not the only person who feels this way. I would say to the new owners please take on board what you once loyal customers are saying and give us the old Hanoi Bike shop back. This is my second visit to Hanoi and we were a bit disappointed by the service last night. My first experience visiting Hanoi with my wife was great and we loved the food and had good service. I raved about it and returned last night with my mother and two brothers. We waited ages for a drink. The food arrived and the waitress spilled the sauce over the table and wiped it up with a napkin. The food was delicious but the most disappointing part of last night was the staff were obviously harassed. They rushed from table to table and the stress ruined the ambiance. This is no criticism of the staff but they were unable to contain the pressure of how busy it was, and this spilled over to the atmosphere. Hanoi is a really great restaurant that is at risk of losing custom as the staff are literally run off their feet. It was unpleasant to watch and ruined a lovely return experience. Our food came to £119 for 4 so an extra member of staff may have just changed the atmosphere last night.

We were told the food would come out as it was ready which was no problem at all. However, after ordering the food it took about 30 mins for my partners food to come out. We waited over an hour for my food before having to leave without it arriving as we had an event to go to. The staff were friendly but not very helpful and kept saying the food was "just coming", we had to wait quite a while for everything. Stepping into the Hanoi Bicycle Club, one is immediately taken aback by the unexpected yet somehow captivating marriage of quirky, eclectic decor that straddles the line between nostalgic Indochine and hipster-chic. But alas, the alluring aesthetics could not absolve what transpired to be a remarkably disappointing culinary episode. The principal offender in this grim pageant of misdirected gastronomy was the Bun Cha. Traditionally, a divine communion of succulent grilled pork, comforting vermicelli noodles, and vibrant, aromatic mint herbs - it arrived on my table as a dish that could only be generously described as "de-constructed". Normally, this approach piques curiosity, signaling an imaginative chef’s interpretation. Here, it seemed more like a cover for a lack of familiarity with the dish’s cultural essence. Its resemblance to the authentic Bun Cha was so vague, it seemed as if it had been prepared by someone who had heard of the dish in passing but had never tasted it. Our foray into the realm of the restaurant's offerings continued, each dish a further departure from the vibrant, aromatic symphony that characterises Vietnamese cuisine. The Nems, those emblematic Vietnamese spring rolls, were as bland as a British winter morning. This was not merely riffing on a cuisine, it was more akin to a discordant jam session, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing. The rubric of disappointment extended to the service as well - it was as underwhelming as the culinary offerings. Amidst the jumble of culinary misfires, we found ourselves waving a white flag, surrendering to the onslaught of culinary mediocrity, leaving over half of our order untouched, with no desire to register our discontent. Style over substance, as the saying goes, and that is what the Hanoi Bicycle Club seems to have subscribed to, with its trendy facade and unfulfilled promise of Vietnamese delight. However, dining out isn't an empty art exhibition; it's an intimate conversation between the diner and the chef, mediated by the dish. And this particular conversation was akin to a tiresome monologue that left us yearning for the bell of relief. My verdict, then, is one of missed opportunity. The Hanoi Bicycle Club has the ambience, the aura, the potential, but it falls dramatically short in delivering what truly matters - authentic, satisfying Vietnamese cuisine. We eat with our palates, not our eyes, and on this front, the restaurant has some significant homework to do.

But then we waited 50 MINUTES to get our Pho?! "Needed to heat the broth" when I asked. Weren't told this when we arrived. Then when it did arrive it was horrible. Sorry, but honestly the worst Pho we've ever had. My wife didn't eat more than thr first bite of her Tofu Pho as the Tufu was "disgusting" and my seafood Pho was cold and just tasteless. Our 2 friends Tofu Phos were the same but as we'd waited so long they powered through it. When we told the waitress this there was unemotional and no sympathy "sorry about that". We were here years ago and it was great... Not anymore folks! Will not be back.

We normally absolutely love this place, but this time the service was poor and slow. We did the banquet between 4 people and we’re slowly brought out one dish at a time. I understand cooking times are different, but it was one dish then a 10 min wait for the next dish. We were asked if we didn’t mind tofu - which we didn’t - expected maybe one of two tofu dishes. We were not expected 70% of the dishes to be tofu, and not anything to write home about. Most of the tofu then went to waste because it was far too much. There was also another rowdy group in the upstairs area that were screaming and shouting, so we asked if we could be moved downstairs and after the server checking was told no due to being fully booked however, the whole 2 hours we were there, nobody was sat at these tables whenever we went outside. The last server we had was great and explained dishes throughly - which slightly improved the situation. As I say, normally love coming here but this visit has made me not want to rush back.

Travelled over three hours to try as I'd heard really good things, was told that they'd "run out of food" which isn't really acceptable for a restaurant? like if you run out of a specific item or dish that's fine but how can you advertise yourself as a restaurant and yet not be able to sell food. Mass ontological confusion.

The staff were great and the mocktail I had was really nice but the food was really disappointing. I had chicken pho. It was so bland that I left half of it, and it's a tough job to make me leave food! It seemed to just be plain boiled chicken thighs chucked in a watery, practically flavourless stock with some veg. No crispy shallots as advertised but unfortunately I doubt that would have helped. Maybe if some condiments were served with it I might have adjusted it to be edible but it didn't come with anything. The waiter came and took the order again for the other two people and by then our food was cold. Then there was nothing for another half hour until a manager came. I recently had the pleasure of dining at a Vietnamese restaurant, and I must say that the experience was exceptional. The beef pho soup was absolutely delicious. The broth was rich and flavorful, and the tender slices of beef were cooked to perfection. It truly captured the authentic taste of Vietnam. The sweet and sour crispy pork. The pork was crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside, perfectly balanced with a tangy and sweet sauce. The flavors danced on my palate, leaving me craving for more. It was a culinary masterpiece that showcased the chef's skill. The traditional Vietnamese coffee was a delightful blend of bold, robust coffee and sweet condensed milk. The smoothness and richness of the coffee paired wonderfully with the sweet notes of the milk. It was a delightful way to end the meal. I would also like to extend my appreciation to the waitress, Breagha, for her attentive and caring service. She went above and beyond to ensure that my dining experience was exceptional. Her knowledge of the menu and her warm demeanor added to the overall enjoyment. Visited tonight and, while pleased with the food, was very disappointed by the service. It was a busy night - the place was full - and you had two young servers (presumably teenagers/early 20s) trying to run the whole place themselves. They were, understandably, stressed out and unable to keep up with the sheer volume of customers. Our food and drinks were late, mistakes were made, cutlery was forgotten and our table wasn't cleared afterwards. The staff looked exhausted and like they didn't want to be there. It's not fair to have your staff working in these conditions. Reflects badly on the company and makes me think you're willing to push these young people to breaking point to minimise spending on wages and make more profit. I just felt bad for the staff! It wasn't really a pleasant dining experience for this reason. If I'm spending money on a meal I don't think it's unreasonable to hope for a decent service...

We went on a lunch with friends at the Hanoi Bike Shop today. As many other reviews mentioned, there is a strong fish sauce smell in the store which can put you off however you kind of get used to it. We ordered some prawn crackers at the start which was quite good but had some unfried bits. I had beef pho and oh my was it delightful. I have had a slight cold lately so it was just what i needed. I ordered level 3 spice and it was just enough to go with the delicious taste of the broth.

Used to be a massive fan of Hanoi bike club, but since it has been bought over it’s went down hill. Wouldn’t recommend anymore unfortunately :( Sad to see another restaurant succumb to a corporate giant

Just awesome. Go for the "baby" pho and banh Mi combo. Although it is quite a large baby. This place is beautiful too.

We literally stumbled upon this place and went for it. So glad we did. I forgot to take a picture of the food and just ate it all! I had the pho with the homemade tofu and purple egg, my friend the caramelized chicken. It was absolutely gorgeous 🥰 and the feel of the place is amazing.

Someone reviewed this restaurant and suggested it had a funny smell. That smell is vietnamese fish sauce. That smell is so very deeply reassuring, and its presence warns you upon entry that they take this kind of cooking seriously. And my, don't they. Deep, rich, delicious bowls of Phō here. Drink it. Hell, bathe in it. Luxuriate in it. Enjoy it. Generous vegetarian and vegan options that know what they're about. Flavours that take no prisoners, though gentler on the chili heat than their menu would have you believe. Crack on.

Excellent pho and curry. Nice decor and atmosphere. Nice service, although food is served when it comes out of the kitchen, so some of us were done by the time our friends got their food. Very casual place. No place to hang coats that we...

Not quite as authentic as I would have liked but still tasty. Would have been nice to have the usual herbs on the side I did appreciate the option to have extra noodles.

Great service, but the flavors aren’t really there and there is an odd smell to the restaurant as mentioned by some of the other reviews

Ate here last week having heard good things. Just OK. Given the level and quality of places to eat in Glasgow I wouldn't rush back. Food portions were a bit much. Fish oil smell downstairs is not great. Staff were OK.

Called in advance we would be 10mins late, As we were seated we were told we only had 45mins left for our table? Our food was extremely late and when being served we were told we only had 15mins left to eat?.. We felt extremely rushed and poorly treated.

Not how we remembered. I’m sure the vietnamese coffee used to be served with the coffee in a filter that sat above the glass, and slowly dripped down into the condensed milk… now you get presented with a glass with the coffee and milk in… the flavour was ok, but not anything special. My husband enjoyed his chicken and coconut rice - so i’m giving this place 3 stars - but I wouldn’t bother going if you’re a fan of Pho. The noodles were extremely over cooked and broke up into small pieces. It was an effort to pick out the bits of noodles, so I decided to just drink the broth… but that didn’t taste great so I ended up eating the bits of beef and leaving it at that. I wish we’d not bothered eating here. I’m sure Glasgow has much better food to offer.

Amazing food! I absolutely loved it. Will definitely be back. Staff were helpful, nice and I would highly recommend. Thank you! Beef Pho and the shaking tofu are the main courses we had (pictured)

Cute restaurant, super small and located in an alleyway. We had the seafood and tofu pho, and a Vietnamese coffee. If you don’t call the noodle dishes pho, then they were tasty. The bok choy in the noodles was left raw and the coffee was pretty weak. Overall not authentic, so adjust your expectations. Also, the table and chairs are not comfortable - the chairs are way too tall for the table so you’re basically hunched over the table the whole time. The restaurant seemed understaffed, no one brought over waters (just the cups) and we had go ask for some.
