Excellent experience, staff were so welcoming and attentive. After going about our day we spent the rest of the evening in the restaurant/bar area it was such a great atmosphere the staff and other customers/locals were all so friendly. our hotel room was spotless and had everything we needed. I was surprised how spacious our room was too which is always a bonus. Highly recommend! Can’t wait to come back.

We were going to be in the Hanmer area on Friday afternoon, but not sure of the time, so I sent an email asking if food was served all day. Yes, was the prompt response. So arriving about 3.45 entered the bar area. There was only one table occupied, a lady with young daughter. There were menus on the bar so we had a good look. And looked, and eventually as no staff made any appearance, left. Hospitality is suffering, so we were so glad to see the reopening of the Hanmer Arms. Shame we weren't able to sample any of the food or drinks...

We went for the Sunday carvery, the food was good, the staff poor, we had eaten our meal and the young girl came and asked if we had finished, we said yes she took the plates but did not offer us the dessert menu or even asked us if we wanted anything else. We sat there for a while, no one came back, so we got up paid for our meal and left.

Rowdy run down pub , resembling that of a back street city centre pub . A far cry from what the Hanmer Arms used to be like 20 or so years ago , when it attracted a better class of clientele. Took 25 mins to serve a mug of Coffee and a pot of tea Appalling customer service. Needs a lick of paint, tlc and a proper, thorough refurbishment . Saw 2 blokes fighting and shouting abuse at each other on top of the pool table . Not the place to go to for a quite , cost drink or meal . No class or quality on display , apart from the Bayliss and Harding soap dispenser in the Gents toilet. It's sad when comparing the present version of the Hanmer Arms with the popular version of not that long ago. The Harmer Arms needed proper investment and refurbishment , not a temporary fix that is the case with the current clueless incumbents.

Very disappointed. Lack of lighting in car park meant it was tricky to find our way in. The dining area was chilly. There was a log burner but unfortunately not lit so not a very cosy atmosphere on a November night. I had booked a table for 5 on the strength of a midweek deal advertised on FB (free starter or dessert with any main). However the serving staff knew nothing about it. Eventually agreed to honour the deal when we queried it. Menu was very limited, chips and peas with most main dishes. Unfortunately there was no roast ham for those of us that wanted it, so had to choose something else. No peas available either so everything came with salad. Food was well cooked and tasty but 3 of us were unable to have the dish we wanted from the menu. Inevitably when the bill came we’d been charged for the starters and desserts! Had to query it again, due to lack of handover between serving staff. The staff were charming in very difficult circumstances, and did their best to put things right, but no one seemed to be in charge.

We stayed here last year for work a few times, brilliant place for us, nice and relaxed, instantly felt at home. As soon as we could, we returned for another stay leaving the chain hotels behind. They’ve been busy during lockdown because the whole pub has had a refresh, but in keeping with the feel of a comfortable local. The food is always good, Daniel is keen to please and the specials change regularly, which is great when working away for week after week. Even happy to sort a takeaway breakfast if we started really early or lunch if we were travelling back home. The place was great for us before, but Gemma and Daniel have really made a huge difference to the place already! Great work! Can’t wait to return.

Called in on way home, last minute decision & staff quickly found us a table for 3.The Chef on the Carvery was the most patient chef I've met in ages! As I couldn't decide which meat I wanted he had no problem in carving myself a selection of each of the fine meats on offer. I had beef, lamb, baked gammon, turkey & pork which were all cooked to perfection! The generous selection of veg dishes were full, fresh, & tasty. My large but very light Yorkshire pudding managed to balance on top of my stacked plate, allowing me to fill it with a puddle of scrummy gravy. Next time I go I'm going to have the smaller main course plate & then perhaps I'll have room for my own Sticky Toffee pudding instead of just sneaking a tiny taster from family! Excellent quality meal & good value for money @ £13.95 Carvery & £5.50 pud

Visited after not being for a very long time. I ordered the venison which came with mash and veg, the venison was over cooked and hence very dry, the mash that accompanied the dish wasn’t the best either, being very dry... I did advise the waitress who apologised. My husband had the fried chicken with hand cut chips. The chips were unfortunately very overcooked and had either been re heated or just cooked for far too long. (Funnily enough I did overhear another table complaining to the waitress about their meal also). Won’t be visiting again. The staff very lovely and attentive.

Travelled an hour for a local car club meet at this pub last week with my two young daughters, 4 and 2. We had our own area upstairs and were checked on regularly. My children were given pens and coloring books on arrival so they were entertained. The carvery itself was extremely good, one of the best I've had in a long while. The selection of 5 meats were excellent, I had the turkey and beef and there was plenty to go around. The chef carving the meat gave me some history on where the meat had come from and I was happy to hear that it was all locally sourced and very fresh. My kids loved it too.I had a word with the manageress and she saw that I only young children so only charged my for one child's carvery, brilliant value!10/10 would go again.

We visited this restaurant on an extremely quiet Sunday afternoon. There was little to none of a welcome, we found our way to the bar where the staff struggled to even acknowledge us. A staff member sat us down eventually and took our drinks order without explaining the protocall of the food or offering menus. The carvery was extremely dry and unsatisfactory, on return to the table our drinks were brought over and spilt over one of our party who graciously helped the waitress to clean it up. Understandably this is an accident but there was no compensation or acknowledgment of an entire drink actually spilt on her and her food. In an attempt to enjoy the meal we then found hairs in the food and an end bill of £75 with nothing taken off. To say we are dissatisfied is an understatement.

Reception and greeting was good and food in the restaurant and at breakfast was excellent. Unfortunately the pump for the showers in a couple of our rooms had broken down meaning baths, so acceptable but not ideal. The rooms need some attention to upgrade & beware noisy guests, thin walls. We stayed at The Hanmer Arms as it was the perfect location to enable us to attend a family wedding at near by Willington Lodge. We had three rooms, a family room, a disabled room and a double room. All three rooms were lovely and clean with fresh milk, tea and coffee and water in the fridge. We had a light lunch before the wedding and that was delicious. The staff were wonder and so helpful. After the wedding we had a fabulous breakfast and again, nothing was too much trouble. We had two children in our party, aged 6 and 3 and they were more than pleased with the small toy/book area to keep them occupied. This place has got to be one of the best pub restaurants in the area. It never fails to deliver top quality food at reasonable prices, served by friendly, knowledgeable and helpful staff. This time, dad and sis had the carvery and I, having specific meat requirements, opted for the fish salad. Unfortunately for me, the fish of the day was mackerel but fortunately for me, the off-duty chef who happened to be in the restaurant at the time was more than willing to get me a nice meal, and he arranged for me salmon as a replacement. It was a lovely meal, as usual. We've been about six times within the past few months, and always come away satisfied. Our waitress this time, Kate, despite having worked the busy Sunday shift was full of life and a delight who would pop up at our table, often to my dad's surprise, and make sure we were all alright. She recommended me the raspberry crumble for afters, which was delicious. I've previously opted for the toffee pudding, so was looking to change things up a bit. The crumble is a very close second to the toffee pudding! Looking forward to my next visit :) in summary, great food, reasonable prices, lovely staff!

We found ourselves in Hanmer as reluctant travellers who failed to book accommodation. But sometimes flying by the seat of your pants has its payoffs. We stayed two nights in the fantastic Hanmer Arms. The service was exceptional, especially that of Gemma, whose energy and commitment to the clientele was amongst the best I’ve seen anywhere. On our last morning we were served by Fiona whose experience made her an exemplary host. If that wasn’t enough the food was outstanding. We had two breakfasts and two dinners at the Hanmer and these were amongst the highest quality meals we have had at any establishment in the UK. While the rooms are not of the highest standard and lack a few amenities, they are in the process of development. Writing such a glowing review creates a dilemma; do I really want to reveal this wonderful place (the tow itself is quiet and the church and mere make a great activity).

What a lovely little village and a gorgeous place to stay. Very relaxing great little pub and hotel. We arrived on a Sunday afternoon and they had the carvery on from 2-8pm so we had a late lunch early dinner! Delicious by the way. The food is cooked beautifully. Had a savoury omelette for breakfast which was also delightful. Couldn't eat it all so packed up for lunch. All up a great place to stay. Close to Whitchurch too.

Came in on a Wednesday evening, the food and the customer service was absolutely fantastic. We had the salmon roulade and the duck salad to start which were absolutely amazing, being a chef I can’t complain the flavours were so well put together and they were truly incredible. For mains I had the sea bream special with my other half having the assiete of fish. These were truly stunning, never tasted flavours like this in anywhere we have visited before. 10/10. For dessert we had the amaretto and pistachio parfait and the sticky Toffee pudding which were both amazing. And even better we managed to have a conversation with the head chef Tom who

Dad and I came in for a late dinner, both pretty starving, on a Sunday evening. There were plenty of options for both of our tastes and requirements on the regular menu, and the specials board also boasted a lot of variety. The presentation of the food was only superceded by the taste. For the main, I had the salmon and udon noodles, which was exotically and ingeniously presented on a banana leaf. Dad had the lamb shank shepherd pie and both our plates were left clear. For dessert, the sticky toffee pudding was a winner and definitely hit the spot! As well as the tasty and eye-pleasing meals, our waitress (Holly) was brilliant. We rate her 10/10! She was friendly and really helpful when we asked her about items on the menu. I often find it hard to make decisions, but she was very patient and described the meals and helped us to have a really enjoyable evening. I hope (and I'm sure) we'll be back again soon!

Husband and I stayed here whilst visiting family in Threapwood, it was a lucky find. Quirky but completely fabulous. Friendly staff, lovey pub and clean accommodation. Clean white cotton sheets and towels, a bath and lots of hot water. Breakfast was better than the Savoy in London.

So many people had recommended the Hanmer Arms to us but we hadn't had chance to get there until last weekend. We'd booked ahead for Sunday lunch as there were 6 of us and it's good job we did! It was heaving but the staff were calm and friendly and we were soon settled to enjoy a truly fantastic roast dinner. We shared a few nibbly bits to start - the rarebit and the whitebait and calamari, both were very tasty. The carvery however was out of this world - a huge amount of choice and everything was simply gorgeous. Fantastic roast potatoes and parsnips, mouth watering rare beef, juicy gammon and tender pork with the crispiest crackling and every sort of veg you could wish for, as well as an array of sauces. The yorkshire puds were as big as a plate and so light and fluffy we asked for the recipe! It was all just wonderful and we were stuffed to the brim. However we did manage to share a couple of puds - the Strawberries and Cream ice cream was beautiful and the treacle tart surprisingly light. The staff were all friendly, helpful and obviously took huge pride in their restaurant. We will definitely be back!

Visited the Hammer previously for the Sunday carveries, which were fabulous. Thought we would try normal menu, and we weren't dissappointed. Lots of choice on the Specials Board and also the main menu. My wife had Lamb Shank Cottage Pie and I had Steak and Hooky Pie. Both meals were generous portions and both tasted amazing and well presented. Very attentive front of house staff. A very pleasant all round experience. Thank you all.
