I did not know quite what to expect from a Michelin 2 * pub. I played it safe and chose the Michelin specialities. I was not disappointed . The glazed omelette with smoked haddock and Parmesan was exceptional. The 30 day old steak was perhaps the best I had tasted anywhere in the world. We didn’t have the reasonably priced set menu at £39 but it looked good value. If you don’t have that expect to spend quite a lot. The ambience was simple but of good quality. The service was excellent. If I was more local this would definitely be a regular haunt.

The last time we ate out before lockdown was here...in anticipation you might say. What a disaster. NEVER,EVER eat in a restaurant where the chef spends his time on TV telling others what to do. You would get more ‘honest’ food in McDonalds and pocket £300 change. Everything about it was poor.

we came for a weekday dinner and firstly we were greeted to a full car park, so we had to park somewhere else and walk all the way to the restaurant.as we entered we had to wait about 20 minutes before we could be brought to our table to sit down and it was already about 7:30 by the time we sat down. All the dishes were quite pretentious and we believed very overpriced for what we got and for the quality it wasA little word of warning for all of you but the dishes here have a tendency to be quite salty so much so that we told the waiter to tell the chef to not put too much salt on and yet it was still very salty. The highlight of the meal was the pudding which indeed was very delicious. I will say the service was a bit slow but overall the staff are still really friendly and helpful and all acted in a very professional manner.

What a fantastic idea to provide this amazing service when we can’t visit fantastic places to eat. Everything from the packaging of the food had obviously been well thought out. Most of the pots we have been able to clean and reuse which is always a bonus. The booklet accompanying the food was so well thought out and easy to follow resulting in a brilliant experience. The canapés along with everything else totally delicious. Little belly pork skewers like a roast on a stick. The bread was so yummy, like eating a delicious crumpet and the butter just finished it off. Beautiful salmon starter with the most fantastic herb oil. We opted for the beef Wellington main which was melt in your mouth. We don’t eat meat that often so this was a real treat for us and the portion was huge. The most mouthwatering pastry and again the purée and jus were fantastic. Sticky toffee pudding dessert out of this world. So much attention put into every dish. And the final passion fruit fudge. OMG what a finish (and I normally hate fudge) it was so delicious. Excellent in all respects and if the food is this good that they send out really looking forward to our visit to stay and eat in August which we have just booked. Thank you to the whole team who produced this amazing box. Great value for money.

We ordered Tom Kerridge home cook box for Valentines and we were not disappointed. Every single dish was superb and came with easy to follow instructions. Not quite the same as eating out but we could still enjoy the fabulous flavours at home and this gives us hope for when we can all go out again to enjoy. Great canapes to start, then Gravadlax Salmon, Truffle Chicken and to finish with Sticky Toffee Pudding and Passion Fruit Fudge wonderful!

Dined at Hand and Flowers Restaurant to celebrate a 30th Anniversary. It was a restaurant I had been particularly looking forward to as I am fan of Tom Kerridge’s style of cooking and liked the idea of Fine Dining in the more casual bar setting. We did go during COVID restrictions so had pre drinks in the tented area, which totally did the trick although slightly chilly. The sommelier was helpful with wine advice and allowed me to sample orange wine before I ordered it and very nice it was too.I have a slight dietary requirement and I did correspond with the restaurant beforehand, they were very helpful. I had a slightly amended menu which took into account most of what I had advised but still kept it in line with the regular menu. This is thoughtful to make the diner feel like they are still ‘normal’ and not just offer a standard ‘safe’ option.Everything we had was lovely and anything we had to ask was answered with obvious knowledge and enthusiasm. The whole meal was thoroughly enjoyed. I can possibly relate to other comments about prices compared to quantity of food but in all honesty, we were full and totally satisfied by the end of the meal. The additional offerings of bread and tasters between courses must be deceiving. So overall no complaints. Would love to go again and even better if we could without any restrictions to see it as its ‘even better, best’

Like everyone visiting this renowned restaurant, we were looking forward to something really special at the Hand and Flowers. It was a surprise for my 40th birthday – to eat and stay overnight - but it sadly fell short of our expectations at every level. The evening began on a sour note when we were 5mins late to arrive for our booking and were subsequently told that because of our delay we’d not be able to eat our dessert at our table. Pretty sure we could have been given the benefit of the doubt but we thought that perhaps during COVID every seat was booked for second service (it wasn’t, and there was no second service after ours). Either way, we could have done without being told off as our first interaction.Anyway, I was fully prepared to overlook this with the excitement what was to come, but the overall atmosphere was uncomfortable to say the least. There were other diners there, but maybe they had all been given the same welcome as we had because it was really quiet. The waiting staff were solemn and and drained of all charm and the general atmosphere eerily dead. However, our amuse bouche came and was great and full of flavour so we were excited about what was to come… Unfortunately, that was as good as it got.- The duck parfait starter, although technically very good, lacked flavour and was poorly matched with the chutney.- The fish main was served with soft not crispy skin and poor flavour combos.- The chips are really floury, chewy and served with way too much salt.- The waiting staff presented the food without any explanation or theatre. Instead they were meekly apologetic, shirking all questions and disappearing as quickly as possible.- Maybe we should have left by dessert, as pressed to do so by the maitre d’ as it certainly wasn’t worth staying for. Having pre-arranged a birthday surprise desert, we were again told nothing of what it was on being served it… (it was a thin chewy cracker with cake frosting). Terrible.I am not a fussy person normally but this was an unbelievable disappointment in every way especially as I’d heard such good things and had wanted to go for so long. But the whole experience was just really sad. Nothing close to the 2* experience we were paid for and were really hoping for.We were also staying in one of the rooms next to the restaurant which was nice and we had a decent night’s sleep. The bed was fine, the hot tub fun… but you can hear everything going on in the room above which at times wasn’t pleasant.I’d have loved to come away from the experience more positive but sadly it turned out to be the opposite. Distinctly un-worth it. The only 2 stars this is restaurant deserves is from the reviews.

We did the meal and 2 night stay at the cottages deal. And maybe that’s why our meal here was underwhelming - because it was part of a deal. I had built the visit up in my mind for the very fact it was a 2 star establishment. Allow me to break it down. All the staff were very friendly and attentive from arrival to departure. We stayed 2 nights in the cottages just down the road. If you stay there you can make use of a driver to pick you up and drop you off at the pub, which I thought was a great touch. The cottage we stayed in was very nice too. Night of the dinner at the H&F, we were shown to our table and we were right next to the entrance of the kitchen - which was great because we could hear everything going on and Tom barking out the orders! You could hear his voice and accent and little catchphrases clearly. That added to experience for sure...only it wasn’t quite what it seemed. I’ll come back to that in a bit.We ordered our food, ordered the wine and were served our starters. For 2 stars I was expecting the stuff in between - you know a complimentary drink here, a little amuse bouche there but we didn’t get any of that. Again maybe this was because we did the meal with accommodation “deal”.If I wasn’t told the pub had 2 stars, I would have said the food was very good pub/gastro-pub food. I ordered the fish pie followed by the lamb bun - nice comfort food but the only thing it comes with is a sauce to pour on. Anything additional had to be ordered. I was expecting a little vegetable something to go with it which I don’t think is too much to ask.As I mentioned previously, we could hear Tom barking out the orders, and I would have bet all my money and my house that the guy in the kitchen was Tom. Except it wasn’t Tom, it was a guy called Jamie May. The waiter said he had “picked up Tom’s personality over the years and now sounds exactly like him”. We were a little deflated and it certainly took the shine off the evening. (Why try to sound like your boss? Don’t you have your own personality?)After the meal you are given a basket of cookies and flasks of malted milk which is a nice touch but personally I would have preferred that expense and effort to have gone towards my main meal.So to sum up, I would recommend the Hand and Flowers, just try not to build it up too much in your head just because it is labelled 2 stars. I’ve eaten at a fair share of 2 stars but walked away feeling I’ve got a 5 star (I know 5 Michelin stars don’t exist) treatment.

Visited the hand and flowers for my boyfriends birthday and stayed in the Charolais room and it was magical from start to finish. We had lunch in the restaurant which was so lovely. My partner did the set lunch menu, he said the soup was the best he’d ever eaten and the main was gorgeous. I had the duck breast as a main which was so tasty with a little duck pastry thing next to it. Lovely atmosphere and wonderful friendly service, was sadly too full for desert but they looked fantastic. The room we stayed in had a hot tub in its own private garden area which was so lovely, reception brought us an ice bucket and two champagne flutes to celebrate the birthday with. The bed is so comfy, like sleeping on a cloud. There’s lots of little lovely treats which were really welcome, little cakes in the room and before you go to bed they drop a hamper with warm milk and cookies. We were also given mince pies and water for the journey home.My only criticism was that the staff came in to clean the empty room above us in the morning whilst we were still relaxing in bed which was pretty noisy with them stomping around, but it wouldn’t put me off staying again. Would 100% recommend this to anyone, it was so romantic and the attention to detail was second to none.

We've been visiting the H&F for our anniversary for about 5 years now, so we are no strangers to the menu, the ambience, service etc. Neither are we naive about how much it costs to eat in a 2 star restaurant. But this was extreme. The food is still good, and the service was excellent, but at £500 for 2 (yes, we had champagne & wine & other drinks but still...) it has gone beyond an acceptable price for a special treat. We had the same 3 course & multiple drinks we always have, but in previous years it has come in at £300. I understand that Covid measures mean fewer covers but to combine pushing the price of steak up to £67 AND switch to a cheaper chewy sirloin vs fillet or rib eye is too much. Sadly we won't be back, there are now so many gastro pubs doing excellent food that doesn't add up to the cost of a weekend away. If eating at the H&F because of its name is your thing, then go right ahead, but save up! If not try the Coach (assuming that hasn't adopted the same price up, quality down approach.) It's worth saying we didn't complain, the staff were excellent, we had a lovely day out and enjoyed ourselves thoroughly. It was the bill that gave us pause for thought, and left us feeling that it's just not good value for money any more.

Our 3rd attempt to dine at the H&F due to Covid. We’d waited since February and it’s somewhere my wife has always wanted to eat. Apart from her meal everything was really good! Starters, puds and my main just great but her Sunday roast beef was tough and tasteless. Quite unbelievable that you could get the star ingredient of a roast so wrong. We did point it out to the staff and they offered us a partial refund. The drinks menus and cocktails are extensive and we had a few of those. The wine list is also good. Prices are not for the faint hearted however it’s always about value for us and in terms fine gastro pub dining, unfortunately just shy of the mark.

Warmly welcomed by a friendly and knowledgeable staff, and safely seated with covid regulations in mind, we were presented with exquisite starters which just melted in the mouth-- I chose the delightful Braised Mushrooms and my wife opted for the Glazed Omelette of Smoked Haddock. For our main course I had lovely tender slow cooked Duck which was sumptuous and my wife selected the Fish Du Jour which in this case was a very large fillet of Monkfish beautifully presented .The flavorsome vegetables were truly a work of art and well selected to accompany the main course. We really enjoyed our meal and it was a wonderful day out we won't forget.

I brought my fiancé here for his birthday as it was a restaurant that was on his bucket list.In all honesty, we were underwhelmed by the restaurant.I should first add that the room was exceptional and more than lived up to expectations, the hot tub was amazing and the added extras were lovely (the lardy cakes were genuinely the best I’ve ever tasted). As for the meal - my starter was genuinely one of the best things I’ve ever tasted, but both my main course and that of my other half were distinctly average. My biggest disappointment was the ‘boil-in-the-bag’ duck. It was left with a gelatinous texture and truly disappointing. The ‘hand and flowers chips’ were reminiscent of the bargain French Fries crisps available in all good newsagents. Absolutely crushing disappointment for my other half who had been dreaming of tasting these delights for some time.Overall, was an ok meal, but really not comparable to some of the equivalent rated restaurants where we have eaten and more what I would expect from a local gastro pub trying to be trendy.

We have dined at the Hand & Flowers many times over the years (and after landing from a transatlantic flight, stayed in their (extremely noisy) hotel rooms!). So we are generally familiar with the operation and menu.A few weeks ago when searching local high end restaurants three of us could visit to celebrate our daughter's new position as In-house Counsel, I was astonished to see a an available slot on a Saturday lunchtime at the Hand and Flowers - and grabbed it!Not to be forgotten that H&F is a pub so not every creature comfort is available, however providing you don't get beyond your own expectations, it is a really pleasant, informal space which, on this occasion, was also well set-up to meet social distancing/Covid protocols. We were served an odd pre-starter (amuse bouche if you insist) with some sort of cheesy crumble which was so extremely salty that I was finished after the tiniest taster. Not a good start. Of the other two, one had a small taste, the other ate his - but didn't reach for the rest (he is salt fiend incarnate). My own star of the show (now at £25!) - boring and predictable as it is, I always start with the Glazed Omelette (improved Arnold Bennet even though he's not acknowledged: it was sublime as ever - but also as ever it is rather salty because of the smoked haddock which means I can only ever eat half. There is usually someone there to gobble up the other half!I think what must be a nod to the clamour for Fast Food - and new to us - turned out to be a hyped up version of KFC Fried Chicken (at a staggering £50+!). I do know restaurants need to hike prices in these Covid-rampant days in order to stay in business....but...an uneatable, salty rendition that was truly gag inducing? I would suggest the chick was over-brined with over-salted breading, to the point where the pepper could not compete.Even the signature chips had to be hand-wiped with napkins to make them edible!Normally I would have complained, politely, of course, but as it was a celebration for our daughter who had generally enjoyed her choices to greater/lesser degree, I decided not to.But you know, the telling response in these situations is that if a server comes to clear plates and finds one almost untouched - in most Michelin Star restaurant we have frequented (many) we are always asked if there was anything wrong? Not in this case - the server just silently removed it, and, as asked, brought the reckoning. And what a reckoning it was - lunchtime meal for three people, £500 (£200 on wine). The Covid-predicament sympathy understanding only goes so far: this was a salty reckoning too much. It will be a long time before we book at the H&F again.

With starters and desserts at £21.50 each and Sunday roast beef at a staggering £56 each, the one sensible price was a pint of beer at £5.50.The only positive worth mentioning was the cauliflower cheese at £13.50 (for sharing) which was most enjoyable. The beef/yorkshire pudding and brisket (waste of time) and a large carrot certainly didn't look worth the money and wasn't improved by the tasteless horseradish sauce.Overall the seating was uncomfortable, lighting very dim and ordinary service.Having experienced a definite decline in food quality and exorbitant pricing I have cancelled my Christmas booking.May I suggest that Mr Kerridge spends less time on tv and more time in his restaurant.

The expectation of visiting a 2 Michelin star restaurant are always going to be high especially with the prices charged (starters priced at £22.50+, Mains on average £50+).I’m therefore disappointed to say that the H&F really didn’t deliver on the level expected. Positives: The drinks were reasonably priced (£16.50 for cocktails) and the wine was good. Service was okay if not a little overbearing at times and then rushed at the end of the night. The duck and Hake were both cooked perfectly.Negatives: The food overall was too rich and stodgy. The prices are 20% higher than what I think is reasonable for the quality. This could well be a COVID related reality that costs have to covered but to justify this the food has got to be exceptional and it wasn’t. I’d be amazed If the H&F kept it’s 2 Michelin stars. When you compare this to other 2 star Michelin restaurants I don’t think the food, service or price stand up.I left feeling extremely bloated in the stomach and light in the wallet. Overall, I wouldn’t recommend and would need to read a lot of positives reviews in the future to justify coming back again.

The food portions didn't look large to my greedy eyes, but everything was rich and satisfying with a great depth of flavour and I didn't go hungry. I'm not a bad cook myself and I always judge the quality of a restaurant on whether I would be able to replicate the dish at home. I would definitely struggle here! The only slight criticism I have is that everything was very genuinely seasoned, to my taste, but that's common nowadays.

Lovely ambience and good service - although one of the staff might be described as a ‘proper little Madam’ as the old tale goes...The good things:Parfait starter (superb). My steak was good and the dessert was also good. The less good things:Background music - bit too loud, turned down on request. The lighting - like the general feel but a bit too dark. The bad things:Fish pie starter (taken as a main) Not enough fish to cover a small water biscuit, a chewy, tasteless casing. My wife ate less than half and told the manager that she didn’t like it. I tasted it and agreed.Really bad:Price - The H&F have got this badly wrong and will pay for it in time... £67.50 for a steak. Well, it needs to be amazing for that price - it wasn’t, it was merely good and no better than other good local venues. I shared a Cotes de Boeuf two nights later at a pub in Gloucestershire which was considerably better and cost... less than half the H&F price! There are no circumstances under which we would go to H&F again under the current pricing policy. Finally, when my wife expressed surprise at the fish pie remaining on the bill (it was subsequently removed), the attitude of the member of senior staff (whilst not rude) was, I thought, a little churlish and left us with a disappointed feeling about the whole evening.Yep, as per the heading - good, in many ways but, overall, a let down.

We could tell there were problems, so we skipped the starter, thank goodness we did, as we still had to wait over 2 hours for our mains. My husband enjoyed his duck, I went for the lamb which was over cooked, tough and one component was still cold from being refrigerated. The table next to us who were seated 30 minutes before us were only being served their mains as we were leaving. Plus I thought the food was seriously over priced and no proper seating, our bench was very uncomfortable. Also other diners were ignoring Covid measures, not wearing masks when moving about or following the one way system.

Having seen mixed reviews, we were slightly concerned that our long-awaited visit to celebrate a birthday would be a disappointment. Fortunately, we needn't have worried. With the covid restricitons, they have had to change from 2 sittings to 1, and have therefore put some tables in the bar area. They have also put a nicely decorated marquee outside for pre and post dinner drinks. As a consequence, the staff are rushing from the restaurant to the marquee and back to ensure that everyone is looked after, but despite this extra hassle, they were so welcoming and cheerful. The food was fantastic, bursting with flavour and perfectly presented, and we had no issue with the portion size either. The lamb bun was stuffed full with meat, and the duck was tender, pink, with crispy skin. The sweet and sour onion tart with almond crumble that came with the duck was amazing. As we were staying overnight, they provided us with a hamper with malted milk and bisuits to take back to our room. Breakfast the next morning was plentiful, and they also provided water and snacks on our departure. Those little extras show more thought than many places we've been to. Yes, it is expensive, but the prices are clearly shown on their website, so I don't understand why people are so surprised when they get there. Overall, a lovely evening, and would happily return.

Tom Kerridge is a most amazing man. A two michelin starred chef who makes his money now telling people how to lose weightBut the restaurant business still motors on and his Hand and Flowers still packs them in. We ordered the no choice 3 course set lunch at £40 including tipI dont think the slimming chef himself would have touched it. We had classic pub food ; curry soup, steak pie and floating islands .Of course it was poshed up.You dont get two michelin stars for nothing. So the menu described it as; spiced carrot and chickpea soup with Pakora and lime pickle followed by Steak and Onion pie with charred gem lettuce, parsley emulsion and rebellion beer gravy. All topped off by praline floating island with salted caramel custard and lovage ice creamAll beautifully cooked and presented. Not quite stodgy old pub grub but not too far removed. Overall pretty heavy and badly balancedThe restaurant is housed in an old listed building and as such is unfortunately pretty covid friendly. Low ceilings and few windows make it quite hot and humid when it gets full .Not much chance of creating friendly air currents to break down the virus droplets. The staff do their best. But the chairs are not comfortable, the lavatories are pokey with paper towels and you had hardly finished one course before the next was on the table.I guess in these difficult days they need to sell their tables at least twice every lunchtime Maybe the chef was just having a bad day todayMaybe I was

Visited for lunch with my wife and two young children. Food was outstanding and the service was top rate too (and perfectly child friendly); I don't really understand the negative reviews. Also thought they couldn't really have done much more to be COVID-safe; all the measures I'd want and expect were in place.Yes it's expensive and I personally couldn't afford to go every week, but that's not a surprise, the menu is on the website.

We were due to be in London for my husband's birthday but due to the change in rules, I managed to get a last minute booking for 6 people at the hand and flowers. All in all it was brilliant - the drinks were delicious (cocktails especially), the starters were amazing and the mains were great. My only slight complaint is that the duck was a bit cold, but in hindsight I know I could have sent this back and all would have been resolved. I have been twice before and it has always been a really great experience.

What has happened? My wife and I have been to the H&F on several occasions over the past few years. A very recent visit was awful experience. Starters: Glazed omelettes of smoked haddock and parmesan, were very average, not particularly hot, unable to taste the parmesan. That was our 'go to' starter. Nothing like previous visits.Main courses: my wife had duck which came at best described as tepid. The skin wasn't crispy. The meal was sent back to re-heat and came back marginally warmer, "chef says that the duck is cooked in a water bath at 65deg". My very expensive sirloin steak, although flavoursome, had sinew running through the meat meaning that about a third of the meat was inedible. I couldn't even cut into the remaining pieces of the steak. Needless to say the waitress was concerned that I had left so much of the meat - I explained why. The maitre d' was apologetic and explained that she would ensure our feedback would be passed on.We were not charged for our main courses and didn't stay for desserts. We were so looking forward to a very enjoyable meal and evening out, but instead we left feeling very disappointed. Such a shame.Overall we feel that the food standards have dropped considerably. Definitely not value for money and certainly not worthy of a Michelin two star rating. There will have to be some drastic changes before we return.Something has gone seriously wrong and maybe Tom Kerridge ought to be concerned!

We visited The Hand &Flowers restaurant on the 28 of September to celebrate my birthday. Unfortunately ,we didn't have a good experience with The Hand &Flowers meals. The starters were excellent. The main meals were very salty. I couldn’t taste my steak because I had a bitter taste of salt in my mouth. My husband noticed as well that the main meals were very well seasoned. I love to eat the salty food, but it was to much . I can’t say anything about the dessert, because I couldn’t taste anything except the salt after my main meal.We had a phone call from The Hand & Flowers management with appologies and promise to improve .We read some recent coments on the tripadvisor and unfortunately The H&F team didnt take on board anything... We have been in Michelin Stars restaurants and we know what to expect. I'm repeating myself, that we are so disappointed.  The price what you charged for the main meals weren't worth the money. I don't think The Hand & Flowers will have a future.

Still nice atmosphere but prices have gone up a lot since COVID. I understand businesses have to make ends meet to deal with restrictions but the sirloin and chips is now £67.50. Add £30 for a scallop starter and another £20 odd for puds and you’re down £250 for a meal for two without drinks. For this money the food has to be amazing. It was good but beef quite fatty (we nearly sent ours back and table next to us did) . Some of the nice touches which we loved about the H&F have gone (eg the whitebait) . Service was great as always but it feels like they may have pushed the pricing too high personally . Understand the need to charge a bit more but I think the overall price for a 3 course meal has probably now got c. £15 - 20 too much for the quality on offer ... Genuinely meant as constructive feedback as we love this restaurant and intend to return but Tom think you need to have a look at the value on offer here...

Service by the front of house team was great. My wife and I were delighted to get, what must have been, a cancellation and get a table whilst having a short stay in Marlow. The starters were not eventful. Nice enough but not great.Main courses were poor. My wife had a fish dish and had her tongue pierced by a fish bone in the first mouthful. She didn't want to continue with the fish. In fact she tried the accompaniments and didn't think much of these either. So the plate went back un eaten.I had, essentially, chicken and chips. Aside from the accompaniment, it was very average. The chips were not even chips. More like croquet potatoes, and not in a nice way. I finished the plate but it was a dull slog.We ended our meal there, very dis-appointed.For two starters, one main course and a bottle of wine, we paid over £175. My wife's main was not charged and we had an additional £50 off. Still over £175.If one is expecting to pay over £300 for a meal for two people it has to be good, and every time. This was not. Not close.I hoped to leave feeling I had spent 2 hours with the dining gods, but got Bernard Manning.

I had yet another great meal at The Hand and Flowers recently and everything was perfect again.I’m not exactly sure what people are expecting that keep leaving these negative reviews. Wake up and get realistic, miracles aren’t going to happen, it’s just very good food, not magic. My expectations are met every time at The Hand and Flowers, maybe some people’s are just unrealistic. I’m also tired of reading people complaining about the price. If you can’t afford it, don’t go, it’s as simple as that. You can see the prices on the website can’t you? I have a hard time comprehending these people who somehow seem to have this utter shock at the bill arriving. Maybe you should calculate what it’s going to cost you before arriving, if you don’t agree with the prices, don’t go, instead of leaving idiotic and pessimistic reviews for a perfectly good restaurant that Tom Kerridge and his great team have made possible.

With many thanks to a wonderful Sunday Lunch, I write this to say how wonderful our visit was. On arrival we were greeted with a friendly lady who showed us to our table. We arrived just after 12 for our 12.15 reservation, and we saw many more tables arriving to all tables taken once we had been there an hour or so! Tables were set with branded hand sanitizer, which smelled amazing, menus were sealed with wax in envelopes, and we were treated to a birthday card from the team. All the staff are very smiley and approachable. Our waiter was perhaps less trained and knowledgeable than others we spoke with or overheard, but if she was new, then she ought to be shadowing other experienced staff until fully trained on menu items and whats on the plate in such a high end establishment. Unfortunately there were a few spillages of water when pouring, and when wine was opened with cork, wine actually went on her apron and on the floor as it popped. With everything else though, this did not ruin our lunch at all. I loved the authenticity of the pub, low ceilings, uneven floor, gorgeous furniture and decor. We saw a member of staff dedicated to sanitizing doors and touch points on the hour which was nice to see. The food itself needs no mention, other than it was all absolutely stunning. Stunning pickled butter with their bread, beautiful starters, and THAT BEEF! Also, hands down, the best roast potatoes we have ever had. We couldnt pass up on dessert whilst here even though we were stuffed! Our wine was beautiful too, lots of different interesting choices on the list. We cant wait for our next visit to Marlow, well done to you and your team Tom!

What an amazing early birthday surprise!!! We stayed the night in the Angus room, which was beautifully decorated and came with a hot tub. The room was comfortable and conveniently situated next to the restaurant. We were made extremely welcome by the front of house team and I was presented with a lovely birthday card. The restaurant / pub is stylishly decorated and felt warm and intimate. We began with the most delightful batter scrap snacks. For starters Emma chose the beetroot dish and I had the fish pie. The main course was delicious - we both had the duck, which was cooked to perfection. It came with the most amazing nut crumble and Tom’s signature chips. For pudding we both had the choux pastry, which was my least favourite dish. I didn’t enjoy the texture and found it messy to eat, but that’s a personal taste issue and not a reflection on the restaurant. Overall, the food was amazing - thoroughly enjoyable. I usually have a massive appetite, but even I struggled to eat all the food. The portion size was very generous. As we made our way out of the restaurant, our waiter handed us a beautiful hamper with a personalised note inside. The hamper had a flask of hot malted milk and the most delicious biscuits to help us go to sleep. The following morning we had the full English breakfast and I can say without any hesitation, it was the most amazing fry up I had ever eaten. The breakfast was elevated to something really special. The sausage and black pudding were packed with flavour. As we packed our car to travel on to our next destination we saw Tom Kerridge and thanked him for such a wonderful experience. He even took the time to have a socially distanced photo with us. What an awesome guy. Emma and I would just like to take this opportunity to thank Tom and his team for an awesome time. I can’t recommend this place enough!!!

I don’t normally bother writing reviews but feel strongly that I should warn people to avoid wasting their time and money at this restaurant. Not only was the food poor for a 2 star restaurant the service was inattentive and sloppy. The actual place felt a bit dirty my wife Having limited opportunity to eat out this year due to COVID we were very disappointed to have chosen to go here. Another issue is the price, we went here in 2016 and have a copy of the menu. The exact same items are on the 2020 menu just now double the price they were. I think that all focus on quality and service has gone and this is just a cash cow ripping off people who don’t know better on the back of Tom Kerridge’s name. Michelin need to reassess this place as it makes a mockery of their rating system. The Hand and Flowers is so far away from the other 2 star places I’ve been such as the Ledbury, Sat Bains, Marcus (before it lost a star).I won’t be going back for another meal

This was a special meal to celebrate my husband's birthday, which proved to be anything but. While some of the food was okay, some was virtually inedible. We started with the haddock omelette, good but way over priced. My fish pie starter was encased in a hard pastry and once the sauce was poured over it it was totally overpowered by fishy orange flavour, a quite unpleasant eating experience. The vegetarian onion tarte tatin was so sweet it was akin to eating a jam tart. The sauces with it did nothing to enhance anything, it was still like eating a jam tart. The carrot side (and it was just one carrot) was awful, tasting more like a poached pear and with the same texture, so sweet it should have been a pudding. My husband had the monkfish which was okay, nothing more, and at £56 was just short of daylight robbery. We also had the baked pumpkin with gorgonzola, which was inedible, again too sweet. I managed to finish my tarte tatin, at these prices you would, wouldn't you? But nothing on earth could make me eat the pumpkin so it went back hardly touched. For pudding we had the banana and chocolate souffle, which was fine, but the banana bread toast would have served better as a drinks' coaster. For these eye-watering prices we expected more than the occasional okay. Just to top it all the lighting was so dim we had to read the menu with our phone lights and almost needed a head torch to see our food. No we won't be going back, in fact I'm still in a state of shock that a restaurant with this reputation serves food that is for the most part average, with some of it very poor indeed. By contrast I had pumpkin and sage tortellini with roasted vegetable sauce for lunch at the Two Brewers, also in Marlow. It was delicious and cost £6.50...the same price as my single carrot here.

Wow! What can I say! Experience of a lifetime. Had the Hand & Coach package which meant we ate at the Coach for dinner on the Sunday night and had breakfast/lunch at the Hand and Flowers. We stayed in The Orin room which is in one of the cottages around 5 minutes from the Flowers-we we were chauffeured there from the Flowers after check-in in the Arabian style marquee-a very pleasant experience. The Orin is up a flight of stairs and has a four poster bed and large roll-top bath with separate shower-a nice touch is the fudge and biscuits-all very well presented and the milk in an ice bucket. The meal at the Coach was confusing to us and I have to be honest and say we did not enjoy this bit but it was all about the Flowers. The breakfast was very well presented and we could order from the cold and hot choices. We had the biggest croissant I have ever seen! We were given a small box of cake and bottles of water to keep us going until lunch-what great touches-we also received a signed note from Tom and the menus were given to us in a sealed envelope-all part of the experience. The soup starter was amazing as was the chicken and desert-the best food we have ever tasted. A big thank-you to Declan who is the most enthusiastic person we have ever met-all of the staff went above and beyond-thank-you. We will remember this for a long time-Thank-you Tom!

What an incredible experience. Every aspect of this meal including the ‘Branson pickle’ infused butter was outstanding. We went to the restaurant having read a number of ‘less than complimentary’ reviews and with some trepidation, however, we need not have worried in the least. On arrival we were ushered into an Arabian style tent erected in the car park as a holding area for Covid 19 where we were offered a drink given a wax-sealed personalised menu and explained the Covid procedure. We were then invited to the table where all of the staff were attentive and helpful. We chose the set menu and the house (Uruguayan) red wine and were not disappointed. Every course was exceptional and extremely tasty.(Not quite sure about the commercial strategy as the cost differential between the set menu and the a la carte menu seemed to be considerable)Would definitely recommend it and our only complaint was that Tom was not there to applaud in person.A wonderful experience that we will not forget in a hurry.

My husband and I visited on 17th September for dinner. We’d had the most amazing meal there with friends several years ago.Having booked online, and confirmed the booking, the email states not to arrive early, or late. We arrived in good time and were shown directly to our table. It appeared guests were in the marquee having drinks, and we’d have been happy to have a drink there 1st. The Covid measures were explained in detail. We ordered drinks, and a bottle of wine. Our food order was taken and breads and amouse bouche were brought to the table. All were delicious.Having eaten the bread, I left the table to go to the ladies. Our starters passed by me as I left. I’d hoped maybe they’d ask if we were ready for the starters. The beetroot and cheese tart, and my husband’s haddock omelette were divine. We both ordered the £67.50 sirloin of beef for main. What a disappointment. For £67.50 each, we were expecting the best steaks we’d ever had. We were told Chef recommends Med rare. Exactly how we’d want it. The steak came out very charred on the outside, and medium at best on the inside. It wasn’t very warm, and the 1st slice was so dry I had to wash it down with sips of water. I spoke to the maitre d/manager and said that it was rather dry. She told us she’d return it to the kitchen to see if there was anything wrong with it. She returned and told us if we’d like 2 more steaks we’d have to wait about 20 mins. We waited. The 2nd steaks were a bit better but still very disappointing. The chips and Cavalo Nero were too salty. We love seasoning, but this was too much. We felt really deflated and declined dessert. We ordered coffee and left. The 2 cocktails had been removed from bill, which was a nice gesture. However, I’d preferred to have paid £135 for 2 of the best tasting steaks ever, instead of not paying for the signature cocktail Pirates of the Caribbean. For me, that and the starter were the only highlights. Will not be returning again sadly.

Only small gripe was the water pressure - shower could have been stronger and the copper bath took an age to fill up (first world problem I know). The staff at the restaurant all seem very relaxed and happy which gave the even a nice feel. That said, some of there knowledge of the food and wine was limited (not sure if they have a sommelier but fit so we didn't get too meet them) which was a little disappointing. The food was in the main very good - the highlights were the tart starter and the Choux dessert. The chicken was disappointing but the cabbage with it was excellent. It felt like a box ticked but I'm not sure we'd whiz back when there are so many other options.

Having waited months to stay and eat at The Hand and Flowers, this was an experience we were all looking forward to. We checked into Flower Cottage - Angus and Dexter Rooms - very nice but then they should be for £295/£195 respectively per night. Our meal was booked for 7pm and I had the vegetarian menu. Wild Mushrooms on Truffle Toasted Brioche with Date Brown Sauce for a starter - quite tasty but I found the date brown sauce incredibly sweet. The other members of the party had the Pork & Mushroom Terrine and the Pickled Beetroot and Cheddar Tart - both went down very well. For main I had the Roasted Onion Tart Tatin with Sweet Onion Confit. Again, I found this course overly sweet and not particularly enjoyable. I was glad I’d ordered some chips to counteract the sweetness. They, and the bread that was served prior to the starters, were the best part of the meal in my opinion. The other mains sampled were the Sirloin Steak and the Fish Du Jour. Both were enjoyed but were by no means outstanding or deserving of the prices charged - £67.50 for the steak and £50 for the fish. The comments were, had it been in your average pub down the road for £25, then it would have been acceptable. I didn’t have a dessert (couldn’t stomach any more sweetness) but the Choux a La Creme and the Chocolate and Ale cake went down a treat with the others. The staff were pleasant enough but there were a couple who were a bit clueless. We did have a lovely wine - £38 a bottle. Checked it out on Google later that evening and found we could buy it online for under £10 so a huge mark-up! We were all a little disappointed at the end of the evening and went back to our rooms feeling a little let down. However, it was breakfast that finished us off! I asked for brown toast and a mixed fruit bowl, thinking it would be like a fresh fruit salad. I asked the waitress what fruit it contained and she told me it was apple, pear and strawberries. The others opted for a cooked breakfast. My fruit bowl came out first. No apple, pear or strawberries. Instead, I had an unpeeled kiwi, a whole plum, some raspberries and a few grapes, complete with stalks, all obviously unwashed, and just dumped on top of each other in a small bowl! When the cooked breakfasts were brought out, I sent the fruit bowl back and asked for half a grapefruit instead. The toast for the table (1 slice each) was brought out several minutes before the cooked breakfasts and my ‘separate’ order of brown toast was included in that. I therefore requested another slice. The cooked breakfasts were tasty but the bacon was overdone and had to be picked up by hand to eat certain bits as it was too hard to spear with a fork. I honestly don’t know how this pub retains its Michelin stars; it’s pleasant enough but nothing special. The only benefit we gained was that the visit introduced us to Marlow - what a beautiful place. We’ll definitely return but we won’t be staying or eating at The Hand and Flowers.

We went there for our 10 year anniversary and stayed overnight in one of their flats (Barbary). We went for Dinner, Breakfast and Lunch ;-))) On arrival we were put in a tent/lounge outside of the pub with a very sophisticated interior. We had a drink. The staff was super nice from the beginning. Extremely helpful and friendly. Dinner: Started with a complimentary selection of bread and butter. Very nice. As a starter we had Haddock Omelette and the Terrine as a starter. Haddock was great. Terrine was good. We both chose the Duck as a main course and had beens and fries on the side. The sides were brilliant. The Duck was brilliantly cooked and the sauce was amazing. However, we had better Ducks in the past I must admit. Dessert was good as well. Breakfast: We chose the poached Haddock with Egg and the Kippers plus a bit of fruit. All of it was perfect. Very nice. Lunch: It has to be the Sunday Roast for me. We also had Pork Belly. Both an absolute Winner. All in all a very nice experience in a very nice Pub/Restaurant. Is it 2 Michelin Stars worth? I don't know and I don't care to be honest. What I liked the most that it is not the Fine Dining Feeling were everything is close to being sterile. It is a very familiar and humble ambience. And that is how it should be in my opinion. (Great way to keep earlier arrivals socially distanced while they got there first drink and viewed the menu). After having time to view wine list and drinks menu and asked if we had any questions regarding this. We ordered our drinks. G&T for me and Vodka cranberry for Lisa. We looked through the food menu. Got a little excited at this point. When our table was ready we where asked if we where ready to go through into the restaurant? We sat down on a nice table with plenty of room around us and ordered our food. A few nibble compliments of the veg arrived. Whitebait with a gorgeous Mary-rose sauce and some different breads and butters, all of which where full of flavour. Lisa ordered the duck liver parfait with orange chutney. she loved it, so smooth and full of flavour again with some goegours toasted Brioche. I had the best starter I’ve had for a longtime, The Courgette, pea & Chany de Chèvre tart, with lamb and chorizo mint. So tasty. Mains we both had the Dovecote Beef with Hand of flowers chips. Absolutely gorgeous. (Although the triple cooked Chips I had a few years ago here I felt where better) Dessert we again went for the same, Lisa and I both choosing the Choux a la Creme, with English Raspberry and Vanilla meringue. Lisa has eaten at a few Michelin star restaurants and not always enjoyed the food and struggled with the menus. Hand of Flowers delivered on every course and we both left very happy. A little pricey I must say but in the end we both had an amazing meal and I’m happy to give this place 10/10.

Stayed at Hand & Flowers Marlow in the Limousin room, next door to the restaurant. The room was beautifully decorated and very luxurious. Our table was booked for 9pm. At 8.30 we made our way to the marquee outside for drinks which had a lovely romantic ambience. We were shown to our table promptly and enjoyed a superb meal, certainly the best we've had in the UK.The team were extremely attentive and the gentleman who served us was so charming and funny. He really made our evening. A restful night followed by a delicious cooked breakfast. All in all a faultless experience.Thank you Tom, Beth and the A Team.

Lunch there today and left feeling bemused . The venue was nice, the service charming, the food tasty and well presented but the average of £25-30 for a starter, £50 plus for the mains and 3.5x wine markups just started to grate. In central london you pay those prices but the blow is softened by great amuse bouche, extra courses, petite fours.and the attention of a sommelier, non of that here The ingredients are decent did not include anything special such as lobster, truffle or caviar which may justify the prices.. Our waitress was charming but let herself down by trying to unscrew the cork on our wine, i watched in horror waiting for it to break.. Our food was elevated gastropub, tasty and well presented but the menu was not balanced and felt overly stodgy. Out of a handful of starers and mains my partner and I ended up with pastry on all our dishes having avoided the steak and chips and fish and chip. I ordered the lamb bun which apart from a little sauce came with nothing (we almost laughed at the £52 toffee apple). No veg, no garnish. It needed sides to make a whole course and surely a 2 star Michelin restaurant should be presenting us with a well rounded plate rather than leaving it to the punter to chose the veg. Sorry Tom but I felt like you are taking the piss. You lack the accessibility and affordability of the one star places in West London whilst also lacking the magic and theatre of the 3 star places but still want to charge high prices. Emperors new clothes?

We were really looking forward to see what The Hand and Flowers had to offer and unfortunately it was very disappointing. There were some good points such as the wine and cocktail selection which you cannot fault and the delicious breads they served us whilst we waited for the starters were fantastic. The starters were hit and miss, the pork and mushroom terrine did not have a particularly good flavour nor was the pickled bits that went along with it anything to write home about. The tart was quite pleasant and did have a nice flavour. The mains were a total disaster, steak was served just medium/well rather than medium rare and when it was pointed out that the meet wasn’t particularly pink, the waiter offered to take it back and have it cooked more. The chicken tempura with the cabbage was mediocre and the cabbage had a very unpleasant taste, almost like eating soap. The chips are a saving grace and were very good, as were the sauces that came with all of the food. The cost is what you would expect of somewhere like this but the food just isn’t good enough.

Pleasant ambience, staff pleasant but not over helpful and food average but grossly overpriced. With starters ranging from £22.00 to £27.50, main courses of £67.50 for sirloin steak (excluding veg) to £44.50 for fish and chips drove us to the set lunch. Although priced at £37.50 bill came to just under £80 per head when drinks, coffee and additional veg are added. Service charge was includedA very long drive for a disappointing and expensive meal

Like many others reviewing their experience of this restaurant on TA, we had booked a table some time ago and were very much looking forward to our visit yesterday. We were therefore really underwhelmed by how we were treated on arrival, having merely been ushered into the marquee erected on the car park next to the busy main road (presumably to assist with the social distancing?). We ordered drinks which arrived promptly but after that, nothing happened. We were booked in for 2.15pm but by 2.30pm we were still sat in the marquee with no further drinks, no menus and no-one taking the trouble to explain what was happening until we were told our table was ready and we were led across the car park.Once in the restaurant, things did improve and we were shown to a nice table by the window. The breads were very tasty and although I would agree that the whitebait had a strong "fishy" taste, I must admit that i really enjoyed it. Starters arrived promptly and again were very good, especially the duck liver parfait. When the mains arrived, I have to say that my duck breast was disappointing for its £47.50 price tag - it tasted wonderful but the portion size was not. By contrast, the deep fried Brill was substantial and cooked to perfection. We only ordered the one dessert - the creme brûlée - which was nice enough but nowhere near exceptional enough to warrant the £21.50 it cost.Reading this, you may think that our visit to the Hand & Flowers wasn't enjoyable but on the whole it was. The staff were friendly and knowledgeable and the food was presented beautifully, with enough wonderful flavours to make the experience a memorable one as a special treat. However, I would agree with other reviewers that the food (and the drinks) are hugely over-priced for a venue of this kind. I get the premium of it being associated with Tom Kerridge - this was one of the reasons we booked a table in the first place - but I'm afraid the £230 bill for the privilege is unlikely to seeing us repeating the experience any time soon.

Having booked this months ago we are so disappointed with the experience. This is not a 2 Michelin Star dining experience, it barely gets 2 stars on Trip Advisor. The food was very average, far too much salt on most of it, in no way did any of the dishes provide a wow factor we were expecting. Presentation was very poor and taste average. The Lamb bun at £52 is a complete joke!Deserts were equally disappointing. And to end the night, after paying nearly £900 there were no staff in the restaurant when we left to even thank us for our custom, totally unacceptable in a restaurant of this level.Tom Kerridge you really need to sort your restaurant out quickly or half your prices, and judging by the recent reviews you should be doing something for the customers you're currently disappointing in a big way. Your prices are so out of line with the experience. This by far the worst Michelin starred experience I have ever had.

Due to our overseas for our 25th Wedding Anniversary being cancelled, we decided to do a UK road trip with a night staying at the Roxbury room in Apple House with dinner and breakfast at the Hand & Flowers. Upon arrival we were warmly welcomed into the marquee for a quick cocktail whilst we checked in to our room before being chauffeured to Apple House. We were picked up on time for pre-dinner drinks and enjoyed a great bottle of English fizz before being shown to our table. Jamie was very helpful and knowledgeable about the wines! We had warned them in advance that my wife was coeliac and were Bothe very pleased to see she had her own GF menu in a wax sealed envelope. Bread was delivered to the table and my wife still can't stop talking about how excellent her GF bread was. Service was superb, food was delicious and all staff congratulated us on our 25th Anniversary which was a nice touch, along with the personalised card on the table. I had ordered a celebration cake which was GF and absolutely amazing.Post dinner drinks were back in the marquee before being driven back to our accommodation. A very special night for us both.

Generally good quality food. Fish from the fish and chips probably the best I've ever had - though you'd hope so for around 45 quid! The chips were disappointing. Other main was 'nice' but lacking something. Had two starters and two mains - all much too large - we left feeling over-full. If we ever went back, we'd probably only have one course. But for the price... I think I'll be trying somewhere else first.

We booked a lunch at H&F after wanting to go here for ages. The relaxed atmosphere was nice and the place isn’t pretentious at all. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. On arrival we were a little early so were shown to a marquee so we could have a pre lunch drink. Shortly after we were given menus and shown to our table. It was really spacious and they had all the COVID measures in place. Now to the food. Complimentary whitebait was tasty and crispy (quite fishy so probably not to everybody’s taste). The bread and butter was delicious- probably my favourite part of the meal. We had 3 courses each, starters of roasted scallop and the pea, courgette and goat cheese tart, mains of tempura fried chicken with cabbage, sides of the bobby beans and H&F chips, followed by desserts of chocolate and banana soufflé and raspberry choux bun. We thought the food was very tasty, but definitely not worth the hefty price tag. My starter of roasted scallop (yes, scallop as it was ONE scallop) was £30. Our chicken mains were £53. Sides were £6-7 each. Desserts were £21 each. I’m not sure how they can justify charging these prices at a gastropub, and the food definitely wasn’t 2*. Our bill came to nearly £300 including service, for 2 starters, 2 mains, 2 desserts, 2 beers, 2 non-alcoholic cocktails and a coffee. I’m not saying that we didn’t enjoy the food, because we did. It’s just that you expect exceptional food for this price. Perhaps they’ve hiked up their prices post-lockdown? Luckily we had £200 vouchers gifted to us, otherwise we would have felt ripped off. There are many other decent Michelin gastropubs like the Harwood Arms in Fulham, serving the same quality food but for less than half the price. Save your money and go elsewhere. Sadly, I don’t think we will be returning.

We are big fans of Tom Kerridge and always wanted to go to the H&F. We have waited for our visit for a year now, as our original date in March was cancelled. But sadly it did dissapoint, in more ways than one.Positives (unfortunately not alot to do with the food). On arrival we were pleased with the Covid measures put in place and were impressed by the menu in the sealed envelope along with our own bottle of hand sanitiser. All staff were in visors.Complimentary bread roll and homemade butter was beautiful. Our lamb main was perfectly cooked but for the size of it, ridiculously overpriced. Male manager on last night was very polite. Negatives-complementary whitebait was beyond fishy and salty, we couldn't eat it.-When I asked the waitress what a 'lamb bun' was, as per the menu, she couldn't have looked more down her nose at me. -same waitress as above seemed very perplexed as we only ordered a main course, but at £52 per head for our main, not including x2 sides we felt this was suffice. - Our choice of drinks also appeared to gave reason for a not very impressed look. -The chips tasted like I was eating a bag of salt. At that, they were more croquettes than chips. We came here to have a very special meal, somewhere which we know is a one off experience. But honestly felt so out of place. Your waiters and waitresses need to appreciate that not everyone will be having a 3 course meal plus wine. At £140 for x2 main courses, sides and a drink, we felt completely underwhelmed by the experience and the attitudes of some of the staff. A real disappointment. This really did taint our experience of a restaurant which we were so looking forward to coming to.

I'm really sorry to have to write a mediocre review but want to make others aware of our experience so they can decide for themselves whether to visit. We were really looking forward to our dining experience given the 2* Michelin rating and the 'fame' of the pub. Unfortunately, it did not live up to our expectations especially when compared to other similarly rated establishments that we have visited in the past. The Covid 19 measures were reassuring with a one way system, widely spaced tables and hand sanitisers provided. We were provided with rather lovely printed menus in thick envelopes sealed with a wax seal. This was, however, the only special touch to the whole evening. Our meals were very 'nice' but not exceptional in taste or presentation and definitely not worth the price. The dessert was the greatest let down - a tiny cube of chocolate cake/mousse with no embellishment. I am aware that this is a pub and the experience is supposed to be unpretentious but there has to be something special to justify the prices and there simply wasn't in our case. The staff were helpful and polite but, again, didn't make our experience memorable in any way and we did feel that some of the meal timings were not properly worked out. We wouldn't visit again unless something changes here as there are so many other places to go to which should give a better dining experience for similar prices.

Why have I put average ? The service as one would expect was excellent and the staffs knowledge of drinks/ food very good . Mr Kerridge obviously keeps a happy crew that are enthused. So why ? For a 2 * I thought the food was ‘nice’ no more , premium dining comes at a cost and expect that but expect better than ‘nice’ . Parfait was ok and the 1 scallop starter good , the steak did not live up to its price tag and the duck nice. So for it’s position in the market/expectation etc average.

We thought that we wouldn’t make it because of lockdown but thank goodness we were able to go yesterday. From when we arrived yesterday morning to when we left this morning we were made to feel very special. The room was beautiful with many lovely thoughtful touches and the food amazing. I had the scallop and my partner the smoked haddock and Parmesan starters followed by the chicken with the hispi cabbage. My partner couldn’t manage a sweet but I enjoyed the chocolate and ale cake especially with the little tankard of beer to offset the sweetness of the desert. We thoroughly enjoyed the complimentary whitebait that we had at the beginning of the meal. We are both massive fans of Tom Kerridge and weren’t disappointed. We will definitely be going back.

Enjoyed a visit to The Coach for an early dinner. Tables were situated fairly far apart so we didn't feel too close to other diners and there was plenty of hand sanitiser available. We were sat at the bar looking into the kitchen, the seats were comfortable for bar seats. The dishes are small so the waiter recommended getting 2-3 per person. We had the mussels which were really, really good, the burger and the pork which were also very good. The waiter was very friendly and welcoming and gave additional recommendations for drink choices. One slight dampener on the experience was the turn around time on our seats and we did feel slightly rushed at the end but we were warned about this at time of booking and as the restaurant looks to be running at reduced capacity so that they can keep diners further apart due to covid, we can understand that they need to operate like this to be able to maintain a profit in these times. Thought worth mentioning however incase anyone is looking for a leisurely dining experience into the evening.

Was so looking forward to experiencing the restaurant and travelled to Marlow solely for this. People were lovely but the food was at best average. I so wanted to like it but just couldn't. Soup to start was ok. Chicken for main was bland, no seasoning and tasteless, sauces were confusing, potatoes over salted and the cheese on the courgettes oily. Vegy option was also poor, again tasteless and not very inventive. Not sure where 2 stars came from, but definitely not from our meal. Sorry Tom, really wanted to enjoy but didn't.

I am a big fan of Tom Kerridge so I was really looking forward to dining at the Hands and Flowers. The venue is a lovely modernised pub and pre menu drinks were served in a marque that was set up in the car park as part of the measures they put in place for Covid. I have to say it was a nicely done albeit a bit cold in the evening. Unlike some other reviews, I found the service was good, reasonably professional but not quite the standard I have experienced in some of the other Michelin star restaurants I have been too. I suspect the casual nature of the setting and vibe of the restaurant may have something to do with that. In terms of the food, the quality is definitely there. In particular I thought the sirloin steak was great but over priced at £69 plus 12.5% service charge. Overall although the food was good however it did not feel to me that the overall experience was worth the amount they charged which is why I have marked them down. I think some people will like the casual nature of this restaurant, and I would not wish to put anyone off going. I think you have to try it and decide on whether it’s to your liking or not. Personally, I probably will not be coming back - but I am still a fan of Tom!

We managed to get a last minute booking for a late table. Our only previous visit was in the H&F’S infancy and pre hype. I can’t agree with the guy in the loo who unaware of my presence, in full rant to himself said “what a con , worst meal I have ever had ! However .....The website said arrive on time as we can’t serve drinks in the bar . Fine and understood but when we arrived there is an outside marquee with tables and is clearly set up for pre dinner drinks . It had no heating so due to the lateness of the hour it was cold and uninviting. Because we arrived as instructed we were behind a number of other diners who clearly knew the score and is it was seating by order of arrival it was 20 minutes plus after our advertised time before we sat down. The mains were great and I thought the Lamb Bun was stunning. The side of bobby beans was interesting but a bit too al dente in our view The deserts were disappointing with the soufflé cloying and the very rich ale cake I felt needed a sharper cleaner accompaniment than the small amount of incredibly sweet ice cream on offer I agree with a recent review of the wine list as being very expensive and the house red we had was ok no better Service was very good and we enjoyed the experience but the overall feeling was of a hugely overpriced meal for what we were served. Final comment and a word of warning. They don’t take Amex despite accepting my Amex card on the website as part of the booking process !!!

Glad we've done it for the experience but wouldn't bother again! For a 2 Michelin Star experience it was quite underwhelming. We were lead to our table in the bar which in itself was disappointing. I had slow cooked duck which was slightly rubbery. My partner had brill and chips which to be fair was very good, but I guess it should be for £45? My dessert was the tiniest piece of chocolate and ale Cake and my partner chose banana and chocolate souffle with stiff, inedible banana bread at £21.50 each - definitely very poor value for money! Overall far too expensive for pub food.

Wow..... but there is a negativeI had been looking forward to this for a long time, birthday present from the wife. The food, whilst expensive, is out of this world. Start off in the marquee (only cos its covid time !), and enjoy a cocktail. Then get shown to your seat and order and before your main youre given a pre starter of whitebait with a dip and some bread and two different butters.I was recommended the signature starter of omelette to start and WOW ! that was out of this world delicious. Wife had chicken liver parfait and that too was fantastic. I had the fish to start and wife had duck, and each came with a number of little additions on the plate that added to the eating experience. After the pre starter, starter and main we were unfortunately both too full to try an afters, had we thought about it we would have shared the omelette as that was big, and then had a dessert too.The only small negative in my view was the chips.... I felt like we had to try the famous H&F triple cooked chips and I was expecting great things but to be honest..........they were not as crispy as they looked, and were rather salty.... so in my view I wouldnt recommend them, I'd go for another side dishAll in all its a great experience and I would recommend for sure !

If they removed the two-star Michelin rating and rebranded it as a Gastro Pub, this review, and the whole experience, would have been so different. But they haven't and it isn't.We are supporters of the move to make Michelin-starred dining more accessible and much more focused on the food, wine and service quality instead of masses of pre- and post-courses and pre-prepared Tasting menus. However, don't confuse this with someone in the vanguard of that movement - it's a nice pub.The lighting, cutlery and furniture are from a pub. The wine list has a limited selection you'd expect in a pub. You have to pass plates to the server (nothing to do with Covid BTW - the table set up means one couple in a fourtop has to pass all their food and drinks to the server. The food is Gastro Pub. Our game pie starter was lovely, especially the sauce. The duck was a very nice piece of meat. But it's what a decent gastro pub is serving now. The crust on the pie was way to thick for this level of dining and putting a soft quail egg in the middle is more of a gimmick now that a specialist skill.Service was inattentive and lacked any interest in the food or wine. No idea what Michelin are doing here, but my wife said she preferred the actual one-starred pub just down the road because at least you know what you are getting, the seats are much more comfortable and the food is a little inventive and fun.

This was my first visit to the H&F post lockdown. As a Marlow businessman and local I have been frequenting the H&F for years and enjoyed seeing it rise up from being a decent Gastro pub to the 2 Michelin star gaff it is today.Along with The Coach, Tom Kerridge has put Marlow on the gastronomic map and we all thank him for that.I had the good fortune to dine at The Coach and the H&F on consecutive days last weekend - first world problems I know. The Coach remains on excellent form and three of us had a fine lunch consisting of four starters (it’s modern tapas remember), three mains, two desserts, a bog standard bottle of white Burgundy (£48) and some coffees. Highlights were the mushroom risotto and the rotisserie of the day, a posh ham egg and chips. The bill? £250, service included. Not bad.So, to the H&F for lunch with my wife and eldest daughter who had not been before. We were seated in the old bar area. It looks like the main restaurant is either closed or is doing very few covers. The service, as ever, was attentive and courteous. Our drinks arrived - a negroni and G&T - along with the usual H&F pre-meal snacks of whitebait and fresh bread. So far so good. For starters we had the smoked haddock omelette and two scallop dishes. The omelette was tasty, if a little salty and the scallops were fine. I say scallops, it’s one scallop per portion at £30!For mains there is a more restricted menu than usual, fair enough. We all plumped for sirloin steak and chips. The steak was ok, a bit dry and more medium than medium rare. The chips were fine, but not as good those at The Coach. We ordered a side of bobby greens with crispy ham hock. Not sure that’s a winning combination.Overall the mains were ok. If I had been served them at one of our excellent local Gastro pubs in Cookham (The Whiteoak or Bel & Dragon) they would have been perfectly acceptable. However, the H&F are charging £67.50 per steak with sides an extra £6.50.In the Bel&Dragon I could order a chateaubriand for the same money for three people. For dessert we shared a milk toffee tart which was quite cloying and at £22.50 poor value for money. In total, for three starters and mains, one dessert, two drinks and a very average bottle of cab Sauvignon (my mistake), two coffees and a mint tea, the bill came to £493! Twice the price of The Coach for less food and pretty much the same drinks.I have seen Tom Kerridge comment on many occasions that it is super expensive to run a 2 star restaurant and that it does not make any money. Really? At these prices? If that’s the case my advice would be forget the stars and go back to being the best Gastro pub in the area, because the food you are currently serving is at that level. My final point on the menu would be that the wine list is poorly put together and again offers poor value. The Bel&Dragon in Cookham (with Joel Cadbury’s wine still in the cellar) offers a Chasse Spleen 2010 for £70. It’s house white Burgundy is an Olivier Leflaive blend which is a baby Puilgny Montrachet for £39.To get the equivalent bottle in the H&F (or Coach) costs 3 to 4 times more. Why?The H&F will continue on it’s merry way, fully booked for two sittings every lunch and dinner for many years I am sure. It has built a stellar reputation and that will sustain it in the short to medium term. However, on this recent experience it is trading on former glories and over-charging for average food. It needs to improve in the kitchen or charge less.Come on Tom, sort it out...
