Bartender was very unwelcoming and kept staring at us. Was a very uncomfortable experience. Would not come back to this establishment.

Very nice meal with friendly staff. We were served by Alan and it was an ideal place to have a dinner near a Gatwick hotel. We will return.

Fantastic place with a great atmosphere. Very attentive staff. Alan our server was very friendly, welcoming and catered for all of our requests. Food portions were a perfect size, large but not overwhelming. First time visiting and we will definitely be returning.

We had an early flight out of Gatwick and wanted somewhere nice to eat,we where recommended The Half Moon, and was not disappointed, we had the Fish pie, which was delicious and a lovely fish and chips, fabulous hosts, lovely pub.

I'm staying overnight nearby as I have an early flight from Gatwick and the Half Moon pub was recommended to me for dinner. I was not disappointed! I enjoyed a lovely fish pie! Alan was the perfect host. Friendly, informative and chatty. I will definitely be visiting again next time I'm flying out of Gatwick.

Lovely, well cooked, delicious food. Service from Alan was first rate and very welcoming. Roast beef was delicious and the choice of vegetables complimented it well. Massive portion of cheese and biscuits rounded off the experience. I would definitely recommend and if we are in the area we will most certainly visit again.

Although we were told our food order would take 40minutes it only took 20 minutes. It was worth waiting for as the food was plentiful and delicious. The beer battered fish was large and so were the chips- couldn't eat them all. The beef lasagne was hot and tasty, best garlic bread ever with a generous and varied salad. Wonderful food! Our Waitress was friendly, helpful and efficient throughout.

Lovely pub, very pretty setting next to the church, well kept beer. Sunday roast was super - thinly sliced meat cooked as requested - we had rare lamb, medium beef and well done beef and all were satisfied - the roast potatoes were fluffy on the inside and crunchy on the outside and the cauliflower cheese included in the price. Limited choice of puddings - only two were on - but they weee delicious. We were served by Alan who was attentive, helpful and cheerful. We will be back.

We went to the Half Moon to have a ploughman's lunch. For £14.95 I was expecting something more than what we got. The 'half a baguette' was more like a quarter and certainly not enough. The apple slices did not even make up half an apple, and the celery mentioned on the menu was five matchsticks about 2.5 inches long each. I would have been embarrassed sending that out of the kitchen. One photo shows that I had eaten some of the baguette, but the length is how it came. Very disappointed.

This is a very nice pub. The food is nice and its in a very pleasant spot. I won't be going for a while though because there are no Covid safety measures in place. People queuing at the bar, lots of people wandering around without masks (including staff) and no social distancing. Maybe the regulars don't worry about Covid so fair play to them if they're willing to take their chances - its not for me though!

After months of lockdown, finally (some) pubs are open again.I've visited the Half Moon twice and it's been brilliant. The garden has been extensively refurbished with extra seating, marquees and a new stage which doubles up as a shelter. The service was awesome and everyone was really welcoming. Good parking etcNice exterior, which I utilised.Chuckled to myself, a tad, recalling a ‘friend’, who’d I’d collected, last time, telling me that ‘his father had buried himself’ - leading to much confusion, in my mind, in terms of ‘visualising this’ (his father had ‘pre-paid’ for his own funeral).Today, no such confusion. Ordered a Cola, and some mid afternoon nosh (expenses ).The menu is nice and traditional. Whitebait sprang out at me (fortunately, not literally), so I opted for that as a starter.Went it came it was perfect and delicious.I fancied something traditional, again, for main - so jacket potato with prawns, it was.As it arrived, I was rudely called by a work colleague/irritant and told him that Carly Simon had, surely, written a song about him - he had misunderstood, and I had to correct him - ‘You’re so Vain.’As for the main course - it was great - straightforward and simple. We have eaten here many times and it has always been very good. We understood the menu was limited during the pandemic and indeed it was not really up to the usual standard. The really worrying thing for our party was how crowded it was inside. We expected them to have removed tables to space everyone out but this did not appear to have been done. There were a large number of people in a small space. They also had music playing which meant both the person taking the order and we had to shout to make ourselves heard. Again not really following COVID-secure best practice. Will not be returning until the pandemic is over I'm afraid.

Food before was great, food now is also great. Service reflects the relaxed nature of the village. Chilled, friendly, and without any pretence. The bbq tonight was an inspired idea. Seriously yummy hot dogs! Hope the new chef stays.

My husband and I dropped in Sunday lunchtime with no booking after a long walk with our dogs. The staff were very welcoming and friendly. They showed us and our two dogs to a table and took our order. They also brought out water and biscuits for our dogs.We both ordered the roast beef, mine was medium and my husbands well done. The food arrived fairly quickly considering how busy they were, the vegetables were crisp and the beef melted in the mouth. The gravy actually had flavour and the Yorkshires were huge and cooked to perfection. I heard the the couple on the table next to us take their plates in and asked to see the chef, they said that this was the best roast they've had all year and that they would be backI'm not sure whether I should leave such an honest review as this really is a little gem in the countryside but the food, staff and ambiance truly are a rare find.

We had a lovely first meal out since lockdown and I am so glad we went to The Half Moon. We vistied on Sunday for a roast dinner and live music. I was so impressed with the staff, food and music. I felt very safe and happy, the food was cooked to perfection. I had the roast lamb and it was cooked to how I liked it, came with a lovely cauliflower cheese and lots of veg. Well done on the reopening since lockdown and cannot wait for more good food and music.

We had a roast dinner today. Obviously you must have a new chef. As it was disgusting, compared to previous visits. Yorkshire puddings look as they came out of Lidl. And roast potatoes were terrible. Bring back the old chef.

The publican was standoffish time say the least. No social distancing - felt very unsafe. Was not worth the journey or the effort.

Visted Saturday lunch time with friends as it was recommended.. 2 of us had lasagne which was absolutely lovely and probably the best ive had. My friend and I went for Sunday lunch at The Half Moon, fully intending to opt for roasts, however as the weather was hot, we both decided on a salad instead. They were absolutely delicious and very filling. The service was great, the barman was friendly and helpful; the waiter was polite - all in all an excellent experience in a lovely setting and I look forward to going back to try the roast some other time when the weather is not 30+!

Ordered a delivery of beer battered haddock and triple cooked chips for this evenings meal as Ive been locked indoors for 4 weeks. It was delivered with on time, with a smile and great care was taken in presentation and it was piping hot with a huge pot of mushy peas, it was soooo good, what a great idea, this is going to be a regular for us. Thank you guys, terrific idea and fabulous food.

We had a take away roast dinner plus dessert. The mushroom wellington was delicious! Can see the chef has taken good care when cooking as everything was perfect. My dessert of banoffee pie was one of the best I’ve tasted in a long time. Looking forward to the time when I can visit the pub and have a meal there. Hopefully they will carry on doing some take aways in the meantime as I sure would like to try more dishes!

Just eaten a truly tasty meal from The Half Moon in Charlwood delicious pork belly bites which were melt in your mouth along with a roast pork complete with crackling and a tasty roast lamb dinner both of which came with Yorkshire puddings and the best gravy ever !!!! Amazing puds choc brownie and gin and elderflower cheesecake feeling thoroughly spoilt ! This was a collection meal due to recent events and Would definitely recommend

Sunday lunch at the Half Moon really does live up to all the great things I had heard about it. The portions are very generous and it all tasted delicious. (Absolutely loved the sticky pork belly bites starter, which disappeared in record time). The staff provided service with a smile, despite the very difficult circumstances we currently find ourselves in. I’m definitely planning a return trip to try some of the other items on the menu!

Good food, well priced wine by the glass, friendly service. Within a short driving distance from our hotel in nearby Crawley.

My husband and I were staying in a hotel up the road, and we found this lovely little pub by chance. The food in there is amazing, from the starters to the main, everything we ate was amazing! The girl who served us was very friendly and bubbly, and made us feel very welcome. If your in the area and looking for food, we would highly recommend eating here!!!!

We went to this restaurant as it was near to where we were staying overnight before flying to Brbados. The disappointment was the food. First, several of the items on the menu were not available and the spare ribs I had were probably the worst I have had. The presentation was awful with two racks of poor quality meat spread over fries which themselves were immersed in a watery sauce. I made my point to the waiter (who was embarrassed but not his fault) but the meal was inedible.

Fantastic lunch in this delightful 300 year old pub. Staff were so pleasant, service was efficient yet unintrusive. Excellent value for money. Highly recommend!

Been to the half moon before with parents, decided to have a whole family get together post Christmas as I couldn't have Christmas this past year, so we said Sunday roast lets try the half moon as have had good experiences in the past.

We popped in here for dinner before collecting our daughter from Gatwick. Our meal was lovely and the service friendly and efficient without being rushed. A nice gin selection to, if that’s your thing.

Visited on the off chance after taking a wrong turn! Made to feel welcome on arrival, both ordered the roast beef which was really good quality and massive portions! Good selection of tasty veg, only let down by roast potatoes which had a different taste but would not put us off coming again. Staff friendly and welcoming, thank you.

We'd booked an early Saturday dinner before staying overnight at Russ Hill Hotel (q.v.) for a cock-crow Sunday flight to Crete, only to cancel when our house-sitter's arrival was delayed by a sick car. Nonetheless, we looked in on reaching Charlwood later in the evening to see if we could still get a meal, and were made very welcome, especially by our waitress who could not have been kinder when I explained what had happened. Once ordered, our meals didn't take long to be served and were both tasty & filling, accompanied by a pint of well-kept guest ale for me and a glass (or two) of wine from a good wine list for my wife. At last we felt that our holiday was under way!

Just off the main route through Charlwood. Searched this out for its Cask Marque and not disappointed, enjoyed a fine beautifully clear pint of Tribute ale. Superb pub atmosphere with a restaurant area off to the side. Ordered the pork ribs. Good portion served with a spicy barbecue sauce to die for. I ordered the Half Moon crush for dessert and it arrived very quickly and the presentation was amazing, I asked the sous chef to come down to thank her, very polite and appreciated our praise.

Enjoyed a fantastic dinner at The Half Moon. We had rib-eye steak and liver and bacon. Both dishes were absolutely perfect. The liver was so tender, like eating moose. (Not the animal!)
