The Grumpy Mole - Brockham in Mole Valley

We have just come back from lunch for 6 at the Grumpy Mole Brockham - from start to finish the meal was perfect. Staff were attentive and knowledgeable- we had a gluten and dairy intolerant guest and all needs were met without any issues and was seemless. The fish pie was homemade and delicious and pancake desert even better. I would highly recommend for any occasion 😍

We went to The Grumpy Mole on Brockham Green for lunch on March 4th to celebrate a couple of birthday’s from our swimming group. We all thoroughly enjoyed our food, which was delicious, and the staff were very friendly and looked after us very well. Would definitely go back again.

When we arrived we had to wait 10 minutes at the bar before anyone came to asked if we had a reservation which we had, we were shown to our table which was very small, we order our drinks when they came we were asked if we were ready to order our food which we were then only to be told that the steak's we chose were off the menu, this was not mention when the menu were given to us, we asked for a little more time to order then reordered, when the food came the waiter said that the plate was very Hot when serving the Beef Stroganoff, it was so hot you could not touched the plate after 15 minutes so obviously been heated in the Microwave, the staff were very moody and unfriendly they did not even ask if everything was ok with the meal or if we wanted more drinks. Very poor service overall.

We used to dine quite a lot at the grumpy mole prior to Covid, we came back just after and just was not as good, moving on thought we would give it another go and it’s back on top again .. very friendly greeting and very quick to take our drinks order we then ordered I had the scallop and prawn in puff pastry which was amazing my partner had potato skins we then both had steaks cooked exactly how we asked for followed by squidgy meringue all of which was superb we will definitely become regulars again. One small gripe maybe dim the lights a little as it was quite bright in there. Summing up fantastic meal great service a big thank you to the chefs and kitchen team and all the staff… looking forward to the next visit Rick and Dawn

Spent valentines here and have to say the food was excellent, The fish I had was cooked to perfection and my partners lamb was fantastic! No service charge on the bill which is great as I like leaving a cash tip which the staff throughly deserved. Def recommend!

Have not been to the pub for a while even though we live in Brockham. Visited on a Saturday with my family for Lunch. We had starters and mains and was impressed with the quality of the food. Equally I was impressed with the service , all the staff were incredibly attentive and very friendly and even though they were busy serving some big groups at lunch they accommodated our needs brilliantly. We will be coming back more often.

Starters were good maincourse very disappointing , vegetables cold , cabbage and carrots hardly inspiring,main course stodge ,needs a serious rethink

Enjoyed a very nice mid week lunch. The restaurant was busy which gave a good ambience. My vegetarian guest thoroughly enjoyed the non meat stroganoff and I enjoyed a meaty burger. Would definitely return.

We usually visit the Mole 4-5 times a year and went for Sunday lunch today. The food is always excellent but today the roast beef was sublime! One of our favourite pubs in Surrey!

A fabulous meal. With wonderful service. We were 19 with a baby and a toddler. Harry and his team were excellent. I couldn’t recommend the Grumpy Mole enough. Five star

We booked a table for 11 and had the most amazing meal from The Festive Menu. We didn’t have to prebook our choices, which was a bonus. The food was plentiful and extremely tasty. I can’t recommend the restaurant highly enough, it was superb!

Despite being extremely busy the staff did a great job of looking after us and the kitchen was on top form (no small feat since there several large parties in for lunch, including one of about 25 people!). We enjoyed starters of soup followed by liver & bacon, Seabass and pies of the day - all delicious. The NZ Sauvignon was perhaps a shade pricey at £32 but very nice and the draught ale was also good and very fair value at less than £5 a pint. A very well run restaurant with great staff and a kitchen that performs well under pressure: got to be worth a visit

The most disappointing Christmas festive lunch! I have been coming here for over 20/25 years. The service has always been faultless, and the food mostly perfection. Not today. The first course was fabulous .. calamari and prawn cocktail. The main roast turkey dinner was tasteless! The roast potatoes were awful ... it tasted as if they had been warmed up ... they were NOT crisp and fluffy inside but very dry ... the Yorkshire puddings were overcooked and slightly burnt .... BUT the vegetables were great. The turkey was ok AND It was extremely busy and difficult to get the waiting staff's attention. No check back was done to see if we were happy with our food. Extremely disappointed ... haven't been for some time ... sadly with so much competition around, it's such a shame their turkey dinner was below their usual standard.

This was the second time we went as a Family [9 covers] in December '22 and previously Dec '21 ...which was absolutely Brilliant. So in Dec '22 the greeting was good ...glass of Champagne etc, the starters were good apart from the Pate with a mile of Lard on top in a tapered small dish with a bit of pate on the bottom, really off putting in fact my Brother in law left it and he knows good food, usually dines out in great restaurants every 2 weeks minimum. Besides sorbets which were nice in between dishes ...... good again, Then the Main Course ....it all looked awful as the chef or one of the kitchen staff draped the roast potatoes with Turkey and so the lovely crisp potatoes were soggy, just plonked on the plate !! What a shame and quite honestly P Poor. The sweets were good ....coffee etc was all fine. The serving staff were A1, In fact Brilliant, really great service as the year before...... But really let down by the Chef or the kitchen staff. They phoned me up this year for a Dec '23 booking and I explained the problem we had and they said you should have said something at the time, Really with all the Family there, Christmas Day .... I explained of a Family illness but they were NOT interested at all, which really surprised me, they just want the money, no compassion and no real explanation. I might add the bill was a shade under £1200 and a £120 tip, the serving staff were Brilliant as I said before.....what a shame. ...... we weren't worried about the cost, we just want the goods and they were not forthcoming.

Having eaten here in the past we were surprised to find that the food was disappointing this time. In particular deserts. The "apple strudel" was served up minus the apple and full of dried apricots instead. This was replaced by a stodgy cold pancake full of chemical tasting ice cream with the appearance of a large unappetising blob (both inedible). The waiter was charming and excellent - such a shame the standard of food has declined since our last visit.

Our first visit here, late Sunday afternoon. Almost faultless, the group were all really happy with both starters and mains, we were all to full for puds. Excellent cookery of the moules, liver and beef bourgigion all of which can go rubbery in the wrong hands. Polite staff, attentive service without being overbearing. Reasonable prices given the quality of the ingredients and generously proportioned main dishes. Thoroughly recommended.

We booked a table for 6 for my sister's birthday. We were given a round table, which we had not requested, but we were very happy to have. The food was very good and the service impeccable. We had been recommended by a friend and would have no hesitation in recommending this delightful restaurant.

For just over £20 each, this was a very poor afternoon cream tea. It included 10 assorted finger sandwiches, 6 petitfors, 1 medium sized muffin halved, 1 strawberry halved, four fruit scones with 2 each pots of cream and jam, pot of tea for 1 and 1 orange juice. The scones were dry. Not value for money.

I have just come back to my favourite restaurant in Surrey and I must tell you it was even better than the last time. Delicious food, fantastic service and great atmosphere!

i went on a Saturday evening with friends and the vibe was very relaxed but not too loud. STAFF: The only bad thing is that the a particular member of staff who seemed to be in charge appeared to be quite rude and stand-off ish. She looked like she was walking around quite angrily and she was quite unfriendly with the manner in which she spoke, gave them menus and took the orders. She had blonde hair with glasses, i believe that she may have been the manager / supervisor on saturday but i didn’t manage to get her name. Other than the encounter with this particular lady, all the other staff were really nice and friendly. They didn’t rush us to finish / pay / clear the table. FOOD: The starters were quite nice although the scallops and prawn in pastry starter was underwhelming and the scallops were overdone and chewy. The chicken was a bit dry and could’ve been better if we had more sauce to accompany the dish. MAINS - Rib eye steak - this was supposed to be rare but came out overdone and chewy. They forgot to give a steak knife too. - Fish and chips was good, could’ve been better if they put the mushy peas in a separate ramekin to prevent the fish going soggy DESSERT: - I would recommend the sticky toffee date and stem ginger pudding - apple streusel came lukewarm as if it had been left for a while and the pastry wasn’t cooked properly at the bottom. Appeared to be soggy Altogether, if they made certain changes to the way they’re currently running then this would definitely be a place i would recommend. The atmosphere was nice but it was a shame about the one particular member of staff and the above.

Totally disgusted by the service received. Waited over an hour between starter being cleared and main course arriving. The place was not busy, people walking in after us, got served before we did. The 'manager" was only interested in finding out who cleared the table so that the server could be spoken to. Ultimately, the 'manager' is responsible for her staff. No apology, bad show - regular customers.... erm not any more!!

Have been to the grumpy mole in staffhurst wood ,so had high expectations for brockham.sat in the back garden and waited 45mins after ordering for a burger ,panini,sandwich and ploughman's .the panini had 1 bacon rasher cut in small pieces and sparsely spread between 2 halves of bread and the ploughmans had 3 pieces of small cheese( the rind end of brie,that we sent back) with no chutney .I have never given a negative review before,but felt it necessary as it was very poor and underwhelming

This Grumpy Mole is pleasantly situated, overlooking the Village Green in Brockham, and we visited for a midweek lunch. Plenty of room in the car park, although the narrow access can get rather crowded. As always, the menu is extensive, with an additional snack menu, including sandwiches and paninis, available at lunchtime. I chose scampi, which came with fries and peas; my husband chose haddock and chips with mushy peas. These arrived hot and well cooked. In our experience the food in all Grumpy Moles is always excellent. For pudding I had the squishy meringue, with clotted cream and berries, absolutely delicious! My husband had a lovely apple strudel and custard. Staff pleasant and efficient. We were seated in a room off the bar with several other diners, but the carpets, tablecloths and soft furnishings absorb any background noise, and thankfully, no background music. If you want cheap fast food, then this is not the place for you. If you want excellent food served in restful surroundings, then you will not do better. We will return!

Gorgeous Sunday roast.... Nut roast for myself with a Yorkshire, roasties, carrots, cabbage and cauliflower cheese (sadly this was cold but still tasty). Love the location. Nice atmosphere. Nice staff .

Despite informing the restaurant of my food allergies and requesting a menu so that the chef could say 'no not suitable or ' yes I can do that' . I had a dreadful experience.The Cayjan Chicken was served as 3 slices of plain chicken. I sent it back and it rearrived with a few leave and slices of gerkins on. By this time I ßhared my husband's potato skins. When my main arrived it was a fried sea bass with a few tiny prawns scattered on top. The sauce was neat lemon juice with oil floating on top. I sent this back and the dish was returned with what I think was mango sauce in the little jug. I pointed out that on the menu it says served with a white wine cream and dill sauce none of which I am allergic to. The waitresses were very upset despite our constant reassurance that it was not their fault. I had no meal,We have previously dined there before and the food was excellent. It was actually my 80th birthday. Based on my last experience. I would absolutely not recommend anyone dining there.

Don't miss out on a visit to the Grumpy Mole in Brockham!!!!!!!!We visited this establishment for the first time today having previously booked online. The bar and restaurant looked cosy and inviting and was only just bettered by the warm friendly welcome from the staff. These first impressions created high expectations. Could the rest of our visit live up to this early promise? The answer is undoubtedly yes!! The food was exceptional as was the service. The young staff blended friendliness with professionalism which made our visit delightful. From our experience The Grumpy Mole, Brockham deserves to be fully booked. Good luck to them and THANK YOU.

We returned with friends for sunday lunch yestertday and were blown away by how good it was and such a joy to have lunch there, personally would give it '6 Stars across the board'. The sunday roasts and the like were gloriously huge, plenty of meats, yorkshire pudding , roast potatoes, cauliflower and vegetables. The food was scrumpcious and washed down with an wonderful malbec/ merlot which was abs. delicious. The manageress was wonderfully attentive and took planty of time to fully explain the menu / availability for our celiac friend. Our new waitress was simply amazing and couldn't do enough for us and the other customers. On the service front we couldn't have wished for more, a 'Beacon of excellence' in the restaurant world. Can't wait to go back when we are back that way..

What a delightful pub! We received a warm welcome from the staff who were all wearing masks & directed us to use one of their many hand sanitising stations. The service was faultless; the staff were very friendly and accommodating. The food was scrumptious, although maybe slightly over priced? There was however, plenty of options on the menu to suit all. We can highly recommend and will certainly be returning soon!

Good food and excellent service. 4 of us enjoyed a lovely birthday lunch on Sunday. Unfortunately (and a warning to others to be careful!) the table was accidently booked at Grumpy Mole (also Inn on the Green) in Tadworth. Manageress was exceptionally helpful and managed to sort out a table for us. Member if staff phoned Tadworth to make sure the other 2 in our party weren't there (although it was always anticipated we would go to this one in Betchworth). Food was excellent and service from all the staff was exceptional.Very enjoyable lunch!

Expensive for the quality. “Fresh scallops and prawns in puff pastry” for £10.95 contained only a few tiny shrimps with the scallops and the pastry was soggy. The mains (£15.95 and £17.95) were nothing special and could easily have been cooked just as well at home. I appreciate that restaurants have had a difficult time and need to recoup money lost, but they should ensure that the quality of food reflects the price, which wasn’t quite met in this case. Surroundings and service were pleasant.

This is a very nice little pub which carries a good selection of beers and does good quality food. Friendly staff and pleasant surroundings.

So glad we found this place! After one of our meals out earlier in the week, it was such a pleasant change to experience a lovely relaxed atmosphere in a lovely place in a lovely village, overlooking a tranquil village green! Good and extensive menu, plenty of choices and not all pretentious, as in some places. The wife had a very nice teryaki salmon and I had the sea bass with prawns, followed up with a shared sticky date and stem ginger pudding - all yum! Having found this place, we're just sad that we don't live locally as we'd be in here all the time!

We have been frequenting your restaurant from inception up until the start of COVID and we have always had an exceptional service and food, our last was November 2019.We were really looking forward to our visit on Monday to reorder the Fillet Steak that we had on our previous visit, only to be extremely disappointed. The meal was completely under par with the size of the steak, it was dry and the chips appeared to be from a packet, presentation was also lacking the quality that we had grown to expect.We were informed all the previous staff had found alternative work through COVID, including the chef however, unfortunately his standard is no where near the standard of the previous chef. I hope this feedback is of use to you and the problem can be rectified as we would like to feel that we could come back in the future and not have to delete it from our list of places to go.

Booked a table last minute to celebrate my husband's birthday.The staff were very friendly and the restaurant was nice.The food we had was very nice and I would recommend the rump of lamb.It was good value for money and would definitely go back again
