Fabulous place ,third time we've been here .Today we came for a special birthday lunch .There was 22 of us and we were looked after very well ,the food was excellent. Compliments to the chef and the girls who looked after us. Highly recommended.

Warm welcome, friendly and attentive staff. Allowed our party time to catch up as we had not met for ages. Not at all pushy. Food was a delight and the menu well balanced way above the norm. The atmosphere was welcoming, friendly and comfortable. Would highly recommend this venue.

We stopped here on our way to Oxford for lunch. The welcome was friendly and welcoming, and the pub itself is historic and tastefully decorated. The waitress was engaging and attentive and knew the menu. The starter of artichoke and feta salad was substantial and delicious, not overly dressed, which is how it should be. Very good quality ingredients as well. The cod with clams main was well executed and represented good value for money. The brie and peppers sandwich was nice but too much bread, lots of peppers but could have done with more cheese. The espresso was authentic and served in the correct cup. Overall very good food and service at a fair price. We will return.

A 98th birthday lunch for my mother and 27 relatives. Tom and his staff very helpful and gave us run of the large dining area. They made the whole event run smoothly without problems. Everybody enjoyed their food and the atmosphere. We've eaten here on several occasions in the past and will certainly be doing so again

Very happy with our experience today. Slightly chaotic to start with (a testament to how good and popular the place is) but Tom and hos gang did a great job getting us settled and we all had an excellent meal, very good service. Special thanks to the Chef for going " off-piste " to provide burgers for two of our group!

We went for a family lunch and I can’t fault it at all. Food was amazing and the service was even better. They also gave us free ice cream for my nans birthday!

Always a great comprehensive menu of choices to choose from with a good ambience. The food is made onsite and really is excellent here, no matter what is selected, as was the service from Emily. Looking forward to coming back again soon.

Very good lunch on Sunday, great food, amazing value (certainly something to note, as this is becoming rare!). Service/kitchen is struggling a bit, so expect some extended wait time on occasion, but the staff is very pleasant and the atmosphere charming, so it didn’t bother us much. We will return again, their menu was really interesting, we have a lot more to try!

First time visiting for a few years and we really enjoyed the experience. The menu was varied and the food was very tasty. Friendly service.

Marlow Thames Rotary club had been looking for many months for a restaurant or public house that could accommodate our members for our regular weekly meetings. We stumbled across this pub by accident, but oh boy what a find. Not only do they have an area of their pub where we are able to hold meetings of up to 40 members in private, they give us an excellent two course meal, with waitress service for a very reasonable price. The whole experience of a beautiful pub and well trained staff make it very easy for me to highly recommends the Grouse & Ale in Lane End.

Very nice pub, with good food, but be aware you need to expect to wait for your meal.

Went in for the first time with a mate for a drink at the start of January 2024 and I was taken back by how beautiful the interior was. A proper English pub.

We booked dinner for a family reunion we always enjoy the weekend after New Year. Again, the Grouse & Ale did not disappoint! Tom was our host and he was brilliant! Lighthearted banter with the group, precise review of each order, drinks served promptly. The food was divine and the wine choices were superb. The bar staff were friendly and efficient. My elderly father-in-law wanted the day fish and chips, which is normally too large for him, so he was offered a smaller portion which was perfect for him. Once again, we had a wonderful evening at the Grouse & Ale, and will be back soon. THANK YOU for a truly enjoyable evening.

The service was wonderful. The whole staff especially the manager Tom was so attentive and accommodating. The food was excellent! I had slow braised pork, and it was cooked perfectly. Dessert was also delicious and the cappuccino is one of the best I’ve had lately. Overall, this was an incredible dining experience. Highly recommended. Would definitely visit again.

This was our second meal in a few weeks here, and both times all four of us were delighted with the delicious food. One of friends said it was the best restaurant meal he had ever had. The venue itself is lovely, as are the staff. Thank you for a great evening out...again!

We needed a venue for a lunchtime family gathering that was going to be an equidistant drive from Norwich, Bath, and Eastbourne! On a practical note it was perfect, an adjacent good-sized car park, wheelchair access and easy access disabled toilet. But the excellent welcome, food and service was an added bonus - even worth travelling 3 hours for! No hesitation in recommending the Grouse and Ale very highly.

We like The Grouse and Ale. It is, simply, the best. With all this excellence, it would be easy to rest on laurels, but the service never waivers. For casual drinks and dining or a special occasion; the place to be.

Great lunch. Menu large enough for good choice, but small enough to mantain great quality. Cod dish was generous and tasty. Venison Paperdelle was good too, with quality pasta. And the restaurant-killer dish, Risotto, was good and creamy and not dried out or overcooked. Creme Caramel was very good, as was the Custard Tart. Definintely worth a journey to Lane End if you are not local.

Attended with my wife and daughter. I explained up front that my daughter had autism and the manager (owner)? And staff tried absolutely every way possible to make sure she was as comfortable and well looked after as possible. Fabulous effort.

Brilliant, attentive staff, lovely food and a very relaxed and friendly atmosphere. We had a 3 year old and my grandmother with us and both were accommodated for so it was perfect. Superb family meal when we came for Sunday lunch here just before Christmas. The atmosphere was very festive and the dining area where we sat was beautifully decorated in traditional Christmas red and green. The staff were friendly and attentive and the food was amazing! Definitely the best Sunday roast I have had for ages beautifully served and piping hot, and generous servings.

Just had the best Sunday roast I have had for ages. Really exquisite food at the Grouse & Ale this evening. Excellent service as always.

I booked my retirement party with Sue and she went out of her way to make the evening great and run smoothly. We had such a fun evening. It was especially helped by having Alex serving us along with others. Alex is ‘fabulous darling’ and makes me laugh every time I go, he really made my evening the best and has every time he’s been there!

The Grouse and Ale has certainly stepped up a notch or two, the food is absolutely delicious, beautiful presentation and top service. Highly recommend this gastro pub/restaurant

We had not been here since it had a refurbishment. We came to meet with some friends who we hadn’t seen for some years. We were shown to a nice table in the restaurant and menus were bought. For me I was not impressed with the choices on offer, there was a “special’s” menu which was no better. When the waiter Alex, came to take our order, although friendly, he was very pushy, trying to persuade us all to go for the specials and encouraging us to go large on the drinks and order bottles of wine instead of glasses. This continued throughout our meal. 3 of us ordered the fish & chips, 4 ordered the steak pie and 1 ordered the muscles. We all agreed that the food we had was very good, I would have liked more choices of good British dishes without the addition of other flavours like fennel or hazelnuts. I’m not sure if I would eat here again, I may go in for a drink.

Beast fish and chips I’ve had for ages. Delicious crispy batter, fresh cod perfectly fried and chips to die for. The ice cream dessert was great, especially the strawberry ice cream, not coloured pink and subtly flavoured. Yum!

We were travelling to the Cotswolds and wanted to break the journey up so decided to stop for lunch and after looking on Google decided on Grouse & Ale. We called and they were really helpful and fitted us in, with our dog, at the last minute. This level of friendliness & helpfulness seems to be the norm here as it was the same throughout our whole meal. Grouse & Ale is a traditional pub and it is decorated in such a way, it's really comfortable and nice, and although traditional the furniture is not at all worn. The whole pub looks nice. When our food arrived it was so nice, it was cooked very well and tasted so nice, we were not going to have dessert but the mains were so nice we could not resist having a dessert. Very reasonably priced too. We really liked it at Grouse & Ale and would highly recommend it.

All the staff were helpful and polite without being overbearing. The food was delicious. I had the hake as a main course - generous helping of really well-cooked fish. If I was being really picky I’d want a bit more celeriac in the potato and celeriac but sauce was great. My friend had lemon and thyme schnitzel which was huge and he said it was excellent. We both had the sticky toffee pudding which was light, sweet and moist - perfect! We only had soft drinks but £70 including tip was excellent value. I’d definitely go back.
