The Greyhound in Test Valley

A good overall meal. We were sat by the door in the sun. It was hot, asked to move and the answer was no. The starters were good the chicken parfait needs more seasoning. The roast lamb was cut a bit too thin for my liking and the carrots needed topping, they were also gritty. Overall for the money, good. The service was brisk, although a bit sarcastic.

Very nice pub wirh great atmosphere, delicious food and super friendly staff! The town and landscape are worth the visit.

We had the most wonderful 50th Birthday celebration lunch that made the birthday girl's day! The table and restaurant looked very pretty when we arrived, with beautiful spring flowers on the tables; we were quickly served Champagne and drinks and given time to settle before menus were offered. We were never rushed, but at the same time attentive waiting staff made sure we had what we needed. Lunch was absolutely delicious and we ate across the main a la carte menu and 2/3 course menu- everything was beautifully presented and really exceptionally good. I would like to say a huge thank you for making us feel so at home- it felt such a special occasion and you all looked after us so beautifully.

Delightful birthday dinner at The Greyhound on the Test. Shared the Chateaubriand steak, served with all the trimmings, with my wife and was a highlight—succulent and perfectly cooked. Paired with a nice glass of wine, it made for a satisfying and enjoyable dining experience.

Delightful staff, delicious Food, with atmospheric decor. We had the Sunday lunch and the portions were generous and the meat was very lean.

A lovely pub/restaurant decorated to a high standard. It is clear they are aiming for up market clientele which is fine but it would perhaps deter local people. Polite as they are, the Landlord & Landlady just don't seem particularly comfortable as front of house owners. No small talk at all. It all felt a bit uncomfortable (you could almost hear a pin drop) as wannabe drinkers were told they couldn't sit at tables as they will be laid ready for diners who were on their way. One couple were asked to sit right in the corner near the loos. I would have gone elsewhere! The food is good quality although the Roast dinners we had were not hot enough. Also, a fairly small glass of average Malbec for £8.50 is just too much. 5 would make a bottle £42.50. Tut tut.

I live very locally to this pub and speaking to any friends from out of the area they are always keen to mention the good reputation of this pub. However, having lunch there I would beg to differ, there are many other places in Stockbridge which I would prefer to visit. My lunch was ok, not particularly overpriced for this area but a very average meal. My white wine was just slightly cooler than room temperature, but certainly not chilled. The food and whole experience was underwhelming. I ate the next day at the Boot in Houghton and the food and service there far outshone the Greyhound. Sad to say, but if you are in the Stockbridge area, don't rely on the hype, try another venue.

The booking was easy, the parking was easy and the restaurant is a warm, welcoming and friendly place to walk into. It is beautifully decorated and very comfortable which I think is almost as important as the food. The staff were attentive, prompt and very friendly. Our food choice was split between the Al la Carte and set menu. All the food was first class, well presented and hot. Of note was smoked mash potato, I would make a special visit just for that! Also of note was the marinated Trout. If I had any criticism, it would be that the menu choice was quite small but I can understand the necessity for this in a place that produces such good food.

Had a delicious dinner here last night. The pub itself is really cute – all low ceilings, wooden beams, low lighting and lovely artwork on the walls. We shared two starters (the pig cheek fritters and the mackerel with wasabi, both were amazing). The mains – steak and fries and the cods loin with mussel chowder – were also great. The staff were sweet enough to bring us a plate of petit fours on the house as we'd booked for our anniversary which was a really nice touch. Perfect elevated gastropub food.

Great place to stay a night. The room was spacious if a little pricey and let down by a dodgy shower. Bed was comfy though and good facilities (Nespresso machine etc) Despite being on the front street there was no noise to be heard. The food is the highlight though so do take advantage. Dinner (food and wine) was really good and the breakfast was exceptional - best I've had in a while.

Superb food and service. They were also very accommodating of our 2 dogs which was lovely. Looking forward to visiting again next time we visit the area.

Definitely the best cooked breakfast in Stockbridge. The details are right too eg a hot plate! Cooked breakfast and Hoxton's sourdough toast. Spot on.

Lovely old pub by the Test in Stockbridge. Fantastic roast lunch - not cheap but one of the best around. Staff are always super friendly and helpful. In the summer they do burgers and pizzas etc in the garden in different days.

Went there for lunch today as we had a voucher as a gift. The 3 of us ate off the 3 course lunch menu and the main menu. We mixed up the dishes and staff were very accommodating in us doing so. The pub is picturesque and the village was so pretty and decorated for Christmas. Great cosy atmosphere inside, with low ceilings, beams and traditional finishes. Food was excellent and varied for all tastes. Much attention to detail and everything felt ‘just right’ (eg. Even the milk served with coffee was hot and served in a dainty bottle - didn’t have to ask for hot milk). Staff were very friendly and attentive and made our visit feel special. A charming place to go for a special treat.

This is the first truly gastro pub I've visited in some time. Many places claim the accolade, but here truly deserves it. The duck was beautiful, and the bitter chocolate dessert was delicious. I will be searching for reasons to go back soon. Highly recommended.

First visit to The Greyhound and we made an excellent choice! The whole team were welcoming, helpful and went out of their way to ensure our special celebration went smoothly. Another great lunch… Tuesday lunchtime was very busy, such a great atmosphere. Staff are exceptionally attentive, without being over bearing… they are all stars. I had salmon for starter, then pork chop, both delicious. I finished with a salted caramel crème brûlée and my friend had a frangipane tart… yummy. A cheeky bottle of Macon made the lunch even more delightful. I cannot recommend this lovely place enough… so much so, I’m back in two weeks.

I am a discerning restaurant diner and The Greyhound on the Test was a poor and expensive experience. Though the ambiance was good, the service and food were poor. It is baffling why Michelin would consider it worthy of a recommendation, it seems no way good enough. Our waiter was sweet but inexperienced and did not know his way around the menu or the wine list at all. His wine knowledge was nil and could take our order only by number. The 400% mark up on the wine we ordered hurt a lot. The fish was badly overcooked, and served with the same gloopy sauce/glaze as the meat dish. The desserts were disappointing, they tasted and looked as though they’d been bought in from a catering supplier. A cheeky and hefty service charge of 12.5% was added to the bill. It ought to be discretionary. We came away angry and disappointed.

Sunday lunch exceeded expectations which were already high. Everything was excellent; service, ambience and the food particularly so. All in all a high bar has been set and we will be returning!

We had a lovely evening meal as we are vegetarian we find most places we eat out in dissapoint the greyhound did not....we will definitely keep an eye on the menu and return when it changes as my only tiny criticism would be there was not a many vegetarian options... ..so we wont be back as frequently as we would have .....the staff that looked after us were fabulous so overall a very nice evening out....

Very friendly, welcoming and attentive service once we arrived, although I did get a call beforehand telling us we were late and had booked for 8pm, even though my booking was clearly for 8.15pm. It was our friend's Birthday and they very thoughtfully did a birthday pudding plate for her however we were disappointed by the puddings generally. The petit fours weren't creative or homemade, and the chocolate orange yule log was definitely out of a packet. I was also served nuts despite having a nut allergy and so I couldn't eat most of my pudding.

We cannot recommend The Greyhound on the Test and Wilds Events enough. The team hosted an intimate wedding for us and the entire experience was faultless. From the moment we met Claire, she made us feel special, put us at ease, understood our vision for the day and made the entire planning experience a joy. At no point was there any of the stress you might expect with organising a wedding. On the day, every detail was perfect. Claire, Bex and the entire team at The Greyhound and Wilds Events were so attentive throughout the day of our wedding and the morning after. They made all our guests feel welcome, like no request was an issue. The Garden Inn provided beautiful flowers, transforming the already beautiful pub for our ceremony, and the Greyhound and Wilds team did an incredible job seamlessly resetting the restaurant between our ceremony and breakfast, whilst our guests enjoyed drinks and "the best canapes they'd ever eaten" in the bar. All food provided by Phil and the kitchen team was exceptional. Our guests were all wowed by the wedding breakfast, which was local, seasonal and brought out in a sharing style which got everyone stuck in. Rooms at The Greyhound are beautiful and comfortable, it was such a treat being able to get ready and stay at the pub that also hosted our ceremony and reception. We were so grateful to be able to remove all travel from our day. The riverside also provided the most beautiful backdrop for our photos. We can't thank The Greyhound and Wilds Events enough for delivering our dream wedding of an intimate and elevated afternoon in the pub with our nearest and dearest.

We ate at The Greyhound on a chilly Saturday night, and ordered off the set menu. Unusual for a set menu to be all day every day, but the options were great and it's much more reasonably priced than the main menu. The chicken parmigiana with pesto spaghetti was the standout dish. Everything was quite fancy and a bit of a fine dining experience, which isn't quite my cup of tea. I enjoyed it but I probably wouldn't go back and I wouldn't necessarily recommend it.

What an experience. The Greyhound is beautiful itself. We stayed for a surprise birthday party. The rooms are fantastic, with a lovely vibe to them. The food is faultless, along with the staff - they are just brilliant.
