Nice local pub friendly staff warm welcome decent food.

We just popped in for a drink this time. The building is lovely but the pub doesn't quite capture the village pub atmosphere I was hoping for.

Everything was average. Had the Sunday roast, which came with veg and roast potatoes. The chicken was pre-wrapped in bacon and clearly not made fresh (still fully pre-cooked) as it was cold/Luke warm after I'd cut into it. They took it away and apologised, but about 4mins later came back with the same plate (same chicken cut in the same place). I expect the whole plate had been microwaved which ruined the potatoes and Yorkshire a bit but at least it was hot. I didn't want to complain again, not having to wait for the same quality of food so I said all was fine. And the service was as expected, polite and apologetic. However, there was no offer to take it off the bill or offer a free drink or anything.

We went to eat fish and chips with the children. The staff was really friendly and the food was excellent. The atmosphere is wonderful. In the picture, the children's portion is divided, the adult's portion is a double size. I recommend!

Good, service and staff were outstanding when we visited on New Year’s Day. Very attentive to us and the kids- couldn’t have had a better experience. The lamb shank was absolutely perfect. Brilliant pub!

The food was good but the service could have been better. We felt neglected because all the attention was on the big party in the next room. Plates were cleared from the table as people finished, and not waiting for everyone to finish as they should. We were not given the dessert menu until we asked, then we had to call the waiter to take the order. We waited a long time for the desserts and that was only after we chased for them. The attitude was not acceptable when we commented about the wait. If they expected a big party, they should employ extra staff. It is not fair to let other customers wait to be served in between breaks from the big party!! As I was not happy I will think twice now about recommending to my friends.

Beautiful location, great food, friendly service. Jackie was really great to chat to, and couldn't do enough to help us enjoy our visit.

We went to the Green Dragon on a weds night as it was our annual mums meet up And they did an amazing offer, a bottle of wine and a sharing board for £15!! It’s such good value for money, and we ordered other food too which was outstanding! It’s such a lovely ambience with a cosy fire and warm friendly staff! They go above and beyond to look after you in there. This pub is amazing in all seasons, I spent so much of the summer here with my children and lovely cosy drinks/ and Sunday roasts in autumn!! Definitely one of my favourite places to meet friends and family!

I only popped in alone for a pint...Gr8 olde busy pub with Bar Stools good mix of drinkers and diners...gr8 Pub.

Rude staff and very poor customer service. Booked a table outside which they forgot to reserve and didn’t apologise just offered a table inside in 40 degrees weather. Inside was empty!!!

We had my mothers wake here , I highly rate the food , service , atmosphere. Nothing was too much trouble. Would recommend for any occasion.

Lovely place for an evening drink, just by the riverside. Nice food although a couple of options off the menu when I ate here. Free car park opposite - parking can be limited by the pub. Wear sensible footwear if walking any of the trails.

Lovely riverside pub that serves good affordable food; we popped into the Green Dragon for lunch - l first went there in the early 1960s with my parents and older sister; although l have driven past many times l suggested to my wife that we ‘revisit’ one of my happy childhood memories - although l don’t remember tables and benches to the front of the pub, not much has changed, thank god ! - l think it’s privately owned so no corporate stamp which makes a change: the food was good as was the service; there’s parking across the road if it’s busy, which l think would be the case at weekends: anyway, give it a try, you won’t be disappointed;

Popped in early one morning ,because they used to do morning coffee. Not so sure they were open,but they served us coffee and never said "we not open " .We will be going back ,as was told food is lovely..Thankyou kind people in pub .

We came for lunch on Saturday, one of our party was elderly with dementia, and subsequently needed a bit of a quieter area than we were sat in. The Staff could not have been more helpful, they were incredibly accommodating even when they had a pre booked function to deal with. The kitchen staff who we interacted with were equally as friendly and professional as the front of house team. The food we ordered was freshly made and delicious! You should put up your food prices! What you offer is worth more than you currently charge!

Lovely old pub but 7 of us ordered Sunday lunch and one sausage and mash. Food came out spread over 15 mins but no sausage & mash. We had all finished before it arrived. We kept asking for gravy as food very dry, we were nearly finished before 2 tiny jugs were brought out. We asked for apple sauce and apple juice was brought out which we laughed about but then when the bill came we were charged £4.90 for 2 apple juices and had to quibble about it on the bill. I complained because the chocolate ice cream sundae contained no chocolate ice cream, just vanilla ice cream with chocolate sauce which is not ideal if you don’t like vanilla ice cream. I mentioned it when paying the bill but the young girl couldn’t understand the dilemma with the apple juice so didn’t quite get the chocolate ice cream complaint. Shame very nice old pub but very slow service, would only recommend going for a drink

This is a very nice looking pub overlooking a charming river... Which makes it extra unfortunate that its staff are so unnecessarily rude and don’t take any basic food safety precautions whatsoever. I bought an avocado salad with shrimp and, after 40 minutes waiting for a single salad, I asked for my money back so I could go back to my job. One of their staff members asked me to wait while she went to the kitchen. After 5 minutes she brought me a poorly presented salad - clearly forgotten in the kitchen - inside a takeaway box. I objected to taking the takeaway salad and again requested a refund. I stated that I didn't pay for takeaway, but to eat in the pub; and reminded them about said salad having shrimp and the dangers of food poisoning. After being humiliated for reasonably requesting a refund, she and the kitchen chef (which from what I gathered was the manager in charge), forced me to take the neglected shrimp salad. I left completely mortified by the way I had been treated. The staff do not have the slightest care for their patrons safety and health and above all - no manners!

Can't say about the food, the kitchen had closed early, staff shortages. The food that I did see being eaten looked nice.

I'm not sure how this pub got 4.5 (at time of writing June 2023). The food was average, the staff were mixed, one polite, the other rude and abrupt. It's not awful but not somewhere I would return.

Nice local pub, cold drinks and lovely staff. We wanted to have a meal, but on Sunday afternoon around 5pm they didn't serve food anymore due to shortage of staff... Maybe next time

Nice food but very small portions! £13+ for scampi & chips and a tiny bit of salad after which I was still hungry. Very disappointing as I took my daughter there for a birthday treat. Won’t be visiting again.

Sunny day, weekday lunch, village pub near home, great food. A Google search for these requirements took us to the Green Dragon. Lovely spot and friendly welcome gave us a great first impression and a good choice of food & drink added to our customer satisfaction. All 4 of us had different meals, we all loved our choices, special shout out for my prawn cocktail which was way above standard both in size & taste! The giant menus were a bit weird, rather than individual ones, as they kept falling over. Apart from that, no complaints at all with a special shout out for the young barmaid who was very friendly & went above & beyond normal customer care - a future in hospitality definitely awaits her!

excellent sunday lunch. roast lamb cooked cooked to perfection and enjoyed by all of us.. starters and desserts great also especially bread pudding and apple crumble.

We had a wonderful Mothers day afternoon lunch . Food was delicious, amazing .plenty of food on the plate . Lovely selection of vegetables. Deserts were amazing. Again plenty of it. The service was brilliant. Often coming over to check if we were ok and did we need anything.

We ate here with friends on a Saturday night food was amazing chef came out introduced herself to us and talked us through the menu .. the restaurant was freezing we ate with our coats on it was so cold .. we were the only ones in there which was a shame fir the chef ... the pub we were told has had a refurb but unfortunately the leather seats by the window were badly torn with a huge hole in ... this didn't make us feel we wanted to stay after our meal x staff were lovely I have to add but we won't return due the the temperature and furniture in the actual bar

Nice little place, our booking was nowhere to be found, but staff were very helpful and was all sorted out. Lovely roast dinner with full selection of vegetables. Normally do the dog sitting swap at Sth Mimms, will go here in future. Could be busy in the summer I guess, due to location

Came with my cycle group Sunday and was pleasantly surprised. As a vegan, it's not always easy to find a meal but the Vegan Nut Rost Dinner was fabulous. Friendly staff and a lovely atmosphere.

Called in on a Monday evening (20:10) as I was staying in the area and didn't want to eat the preheated food on offer. Walked in, and the place was empty. The bartender asked how he could help. I asked about food. "Sorry, the kitchen is closed on a Monday night" OK! Walked outside. The A board told a different story. I walked further on and had a lovely Indian meal.

Absolutely delicious vegetarian roast. The staff are lovely, the pub is cosy, we loved our time there. Hundred percent returning.

I would highly recommend steak night at the green dragon . Staff were attentive and friendly we ardered 2 sirloin steaks meals and a bottie of wine . The food was amazing steaks were cooked perfectly and all for under £25 each !!! Great food , great staff and great pub . 100% will be back

First visit to The Green Dragon. Came for light lunch & a pint whilst visiting the nearby De Havilland Museum. I knew from research beforehand that car parking is limited so I considered myself lucky to get into a nice space right outside the pub. This was mid week - might be more problematic at weekends. Outdoor seating to the front , 2 bars inside , 1 large bar on entry & another bar to the side. Obviously an old pub with it's wealth of beams. Very welcoming barman who pointed out a table for us , poured us 2 excellent pints of Proper Job & brought them over along with a king sized menu board. Very good choice of food for all tastes , including vegan , vegetarian & gluten free. There is also a specials board & a smaller menu. My friend had a carrot soup with warmed bread & I had falafels with a pepper humus & pitta bread , both of which we enjoyed. My only slight criticism is that the food took a good 30 minutes to arrive on a not very busy day & that our particular meals were not particularly intricate. However , the staff were very friendly & pleasant & we enjoyed our visit. Clean , well appointed toilets.

Just recently had a Christmas lunch for 25 members of Laser MC club here. Steve and his team did a great job catering for us all. I had the mushrooms to start folliowed by the salmon and both were very tasty. My partner and I had previously dropped in one evening a month ago for an evening meal and that was also very good. The pub looked lovely with all the Christmas decorations in place.

Great food, friendly staff and a lovely atmosphere.. tucked away in a quiet area with a nice walking place complete with river.. Reasonable prices and a great sunday roast carvery too. I've loved every visit to the place!

Went for evening meal. Restaurant empty , head banging music ! Hard to eat with that in your ears! Food not great. Waitresses inappropriately dressed , cut down jeans & tops ! This used to be my local pub for years really busy great food and friendly place now it seems to be a sad shadow of itself ! Spent £60 for all the above , place needs sorting out .

Back to my roots. Forgotten what a fantastic pub this is. Nothings changed since I was brought up in Colney. Great staff. Great boozer. I will try to get back as soon as possible. I will have a meal on my next visit as I saw people eating and it looked wonderful. Met an old family friend also .

Nice pub. Decent food. Limited menu options today and only one ale on tap. Nice local pub.

My wife and I stopped for lunch. Very attractive and peaceful location. Would be great for families with children who could play on the grass opposite the pub. We both had ham, eggs and chips. The ham really was hand carved, lovely and thick and "reat good 'am", the chips were cooked perfectly, crisp on the outside, soft inside, the eggs were perfect too. The landlady and her assistant smiled and were attentive. All in all a super experience and we shall return as soon as convenient.

How pleasant to sit outdoors to enjoy your drink. If you think this do not go to The Green Dragon. Not only do they play dreadful music, they have the worst speakers.

We popped in here on the way home from "Aylett" nursery and had very nice drinks and meals. Lovely place to go on a sunny day as the river and trees give it a very relaxing atmosphere. Just two things to be wary of trying to get in to the grounds if approaching on the left as it is a very sharp turning in to the narrow approach , if you are crossing the road it's ok. Also there aren't very many parking places . But really worth the visit .

Stopped by for food yesterday evening and came back for lunch today as food was great. All home cooked. Amazing choice. Kids food was also very good (actual fish in fish fingers and chicken breast in goujons etc) Great value for money. Only few minutes from Holiday Inn Express to head to Harry Potter World.

Came by for a drink and a bite enroute on a bike ride. Lovely situation by the green and the river for the children to play ball games while the adults sat and chatted. Friendly bar staff and a good cheesy macaroni cheese with bacon. They also did a good cuppa which sadly not many places can do these days. Will be back for sure!!

First time there, went for a function lively outside area and nice big pub, dient eat here but the food going out to customers looked really nice and the food at function was lovely.

Normally a summer pub for me by the river but what a lovely warm atmosphere in the winter! All decked out in festive attire. Great pub, great food.
