Moved out of Thurgoland about 40 years ago. On a rare visit back this weekend my wife and I popped in for a couple of beers prior to a walk. Received a warm welcome and enjoyed a nice chat with new landlady, Aya, who had only taken charge of the pub recently. Wish you every success Aya for your future in a lovely village.

Friendly lady behind the bar. Food plentiful but very average. Couple of nice beers. Chilled atmosphere for a mid day lunch.

Booked for eat out to help. First time, sadly will be the last, one meal was served on a bread/chopping board!!! Lots of deep cuts on the wood, not acceptable, asked for a plate, but have to say the gammon meal, was very good. The mushroom risotto was not, tasteless and gloopy. Pleased it was half priced.Thought the menu was very limited. Not for us who generally enjoy pub grub.

Food was disappointing. Ordered the steak medium rare, came well done about 1.5hrs after we ordered it. (it didn't get eaten) . Told the staff at the bar when we went up to pay, no offer of any money off and half hearted apology

Highly recommend, lovely little family run pub made you feel very welcome. Food was very nice home cooked and fresh. Brilliant range of gins I had apple and rhubarb and my partner had cask ale. Pub was cleaned on a regular basis due to Covid, tables and bar were sanitised after each customer. Will definitely be going back beautiful pub.

Use to go with the previous owners. Went back and saw new owners. Sunday lunch - Stuffing were hard, supermarket Yorkshire puddings, poor appeal. Won’t be going again. The new owners seem very rude too. Use to be a lovely Sunday lunch too. New owners ruined the pub.

Came for a quick bite to eat,selection of alcohol was good. Food was average. My burger came out undercooked and being 7 months pregnant I had to send it back but they took it off the bill. A member of the family had the mushroom risotto, was a sticky mess. Tasted horrible. They were very apologetic with the burger but the food was average. We won't be going back.

Atmosphere not like it used to be but i hope this will improve. Food limited. Everything with chips. Food mediocre but acceptable. The ratatouille however was inedible and very acidic. Beer was nice and quite a good choice of drinks. Friendly place.

Walked in the staff was mingling about ordered my meal and drinks you would have thought it was unerversity challenge when the meal came out one at a time in five minutes intervals every thing was cold undercooked I wasn’t satisfied and asked for my money back she only gave me my money back the food was really bad couldn’t believe how bad it was I didn’t even get an apology and they are saying they are taking orders for Christmas they mus be having a laugh 😂 I would never go back there again I don’t know if it has been taken over but very very bad

Casual lunch outing today and decided to try The Green Dragon . First thing I noticed when we walked in was how spotless clean the pub is . The gent behind the bar was friendly and helpful as was the lady responsible for the cooking ( landlord and landlady) . The menu was traditional and the starter of Yorkshire Pudding was chosen ... proper home made with lovely thick tasty gravy .. I could have eaten it again . The main meal I opted for Sauted Liver and onions and given the choice of chips, new potatoes or mash ... my friend chose the Chicken and mushroom pie ... the meals arrived piping hot and plentiful the liver was so tender it melted I couldn’t fault anything on my plate and friend pit was packed with chicken and it shouted homemade... we will definitely be returning... very impressed.

Just had Sunday lunch at The Green Dragon it was fantastic ! Everything was lovely especially the yorkshire puddings . We will be back soon .

We called in here as our intended destination was full. Very pleased The Green Dragon could fit us in! A traditional pub offering Sunday roasts. The roast pork was a success. As a vegetarian I was hoping that the vegetarian option of mushroom stroganoff would be served with all the trimmings of a roast, but it was served with rice. It was very tasty & I'd definitely go back, but would like to see a veggie roast dinner as an option.

We thoroughly enjoyed a beautifully cooked Sunday roast for three adults and two young children. Service was friendly and quick. Inexpensive.

Stopped in here on the hunt for a bit of pub grub.. we were instead surprised with some of the most home cosy made food we have had in a long... long time. Food was superb and surprised us. Lovely Land lady and lovely service. Will 100% be returning on our next visit. MIXED GRILL IS RECOMMENDED. You will be pleasingly surprised. Thanks Green Dragon!

The Green Dragon is a frendly pub it has open mike on Thusday nights and karioky Saturday nights the staff are friendley and you can feel comfertuble with friends and the drinks are good and it is a clean place .And they serve food what more could you wish for June Jackson xxx

I ordered a lasagne it was burnt black and crispy and there was no meat in it. I said I couldn't eat it the chef said she had made it and it was OK I asked for a refund but the chef and the waiter went into the kitchen so I walked out £9.25 worse off amd still hungry

Disappointing - had 8oz sirloin steak which was very thin when arrived -

Called in on chance and were disappointed with the lunch. Whilst the service was ok the food was in the main well below par. 3 portions of spaghetti 2 with chicken were served in a very watery tasteless sauce. The third was served with salmon in a chilli and something else sauce.It appeared that the pub was for the locals who seemed happy to chat and take ages over the ordering process which left us waiting for too longs much so we decided not to order sweets. The coffee was poor and so the overall experience was poor. Plenty of competition in the area so the pub needs to up its game.

The meat was like rubber and will not be gooding again

Great food, lovely surroundings, excellent service. We visited by chance on a Friday and were served by Karen. She's a lovely host and nothing was too much trouble. Will definitely be returning.

Called in after Christmas shopping , Sunday 3.45 pm .Still serving Sunday lunch .Warm welcome, great service .Cosy , traditional pub .Very , very , good lunch ..fresh veg , home made Yorkshires and proper mash -served hot !.....good bar ; and the decorations look lovely ...feels like Christmas 🌠

Driving home from a long, hard day at work I had decided I was not in the mood to cook and couldn't face another take away so decided to stop at the next pub for a pint whilst I decided which restaurant to go to. The Green Dragon was the first pub, so I parked in the car park and went into the pub. I was met by a friendly bar tender who served my drink but took an interest in me!! She asked if I had had a long day, I flippantly replied "Yes, but no one cares" and she just smiled, said "We do, sit down, relax and I will bring your pint over" At this point I must point out I am in my fifties, my muscular chest has migrated somewhat south, although I do have all my own hair and teeth. Within a minute my pint was delivered. I thanked her and sat quietly wondering which cuisine I should eat. Looking at the others in the pub I noticed some very generous portions being brought out, each plate looking very tempting and smelling lovely. Long story short, I stayed for a very, very good meal, nothing like I was thinking of, it was a great proper chips, real pie and fresh vegetale meal. Far from the Indian/chinese I was thinking of but, OMG, was it good... I only travel that way about 4 times a year but I now look forward to the journey home, a great meal and a pint (never more, do not drink and drive...) instead of just wanting to get home and forget the day. Thanks to all the staff who are always friendly even though I am a stranger to them. There is cetainly a warm welcome every time I go, no matter who is behind the bar, If you want a relaxed, friendly but not intrusive staff, well kept ales and great VFM wholesome food I thoroughly recommend anywhere but here as I want to keep this diamond to myself!!!!

Great food and beer. I've enjoyed visiting on Tuesdays when it's pie and a pint for £10. The pies are superb and lovingly made by Narindra the chef.

Great traditional pub serving hearty portions. Each night has a theme which includes a pint in the price. Steak and ale pie I can recommend. Pleasant bar staff and a really nice pint. Well worth going and I imagine other nights are similarly as good with decent portions. Puddings traditional and again a generous helping. Tasted great but just couldn’t eat it all twice the size of other similar places I have been to.

Nice old fashioned pub that serves good food at a reasonable price. Portions are generous. Service good and not too long a wait for food. Beer also happens to be good so we’ll worth going. Have offers on virtually every night of the week we went on pie night and weren’t disappointed. Rice pudding is excellent.

We have been going to the green Dragon on and off for years. It's been up it's been down. But at the moment it's defiantly up. The couple who have taken it over are really trying to make it better. Lots more new different beers on and food is good proper pub food. Really good well done thanks. Just needs a little bit more atmosphere.

My first ever visit to this place and I would recommend it to everyone. The staff are friendly and the food is excellent.

Been twice now for Sunday Lunch. Proper home cooked food. If you fancy a lovely, filling Sunday dinner then come here (you won't leave with an empty stomach!). My only minor gripe (and it's probably just me) is paying 75p for stuffing considering you only get a small amount of it. I would suggest including stuffing as standard when having the Turkey or Pork lunches, rather than charge extra. However, I would still highly recommend the Green Dragon and will definitely have to come back in the week to try something off the Main Menu. Puddings are nom nom too :)

Great 3 course Sunday lunch for only £15.95. The portions were just right and the staff were very friendly. I would advise booking as it gets busy and is not a massive place. Small car park to the rear. Also clean and cosy

Haven't been in the Dragon as much as I would have liked to in recent times but always find it a welcoming, friendly place. Went in for pie and a pint night a few weeks ago and was excellent. The pies are great, the chips are some of the nicest I've had.

This is the local pub that keeps on giving! Always creates a table and the food is excellent. I feel the service is perfect every time I visit and the food is too notch x

In the middle relates to its location between Huddersfield and Sheffield not to anything else. We had a family catch up and chose this pub. We made a good choice, we all had different main courses and all enjoyed everything, plus good beer and very convivial owners who made us all plus dog feel very welcome.

As a family we like to eat out at different places, however, we have now eaten here three times in a week. The food is amazing, the pub is dog friendly, the service is first class and all the food is homemade. Would defo recommend and we will be back. Staff also aware of gluten free needs. Mark & Jayne are doing an amazing job. Thanks Jayne and Mark for making our holiday really special xx

Great open mic night on a Thursday

We called at the Green Dragon for our lunch. Cannot fault it - The chips were the best we've had for some time. Good choice on the menu. Would certainly recommend.

Stumbled across this gem by accident on a Tuesday night. There is a very cosy and welcoming atmosphere and we were welcomed by a very friendly dog. The food was amazing and I would certainly recommend it to everyone. Looking to try their steak night next.

Popped in on passing for a mid afternoon lunch amazing pie (steak and ale) chips and peas asked for extra gravy. great pint staff really helpful and chatty nothing to much trouble all freshly made food tasting gorgeous. Can’t wait to go back and try the other things the barmaid got to offer.

Good food & Real ale .A warm welcome

Had a pate starter and a cheese and bacon burger between two people. Pate was lovely plenty of it and tasty homemade caramelised onion chutney. Burger was good too will be back to sample other things on a large menu, thanks for halfing everything too.

Called in for tea one Thursday evening ,, pub was quiet as it was early evening, a friendly welcome from the Landlord, hubby enjoyed a good pint of Tetleys .

Food was good - best chips I've had for ages - gammon tender, freshly cooked & plenty of it. Pub was clean & the owners friendly .

Came to this traditional village pub as it was close to where we were staying and several people had recommended. We arrived and were greeted by very friendly staff who were keen to serve us (great pint of Timothy Taylor's Landlord). The place had several tables with folk busy eating. We asked for their Fish n Fizz Friday special only to learn that we were more than half an hour too late for food. But when the chef saw our disappointment they fired up the kitchems again specially. And the fish and chips were perfect, washed down by the prosecco. Lovely!

This pub is better than it is given credit for, past manager's have ruined it's appeal it's a not so hidden jem

New owners food and staff excellent will go back

Really nice place to eat. This is the first time we have eaten there, but the second time we have visited. We have been made welcome on both occasions. Would highly recommend the food, so much so that one of our party who is known to describe food as mediocre said how much they'd enjoyed the food and the pub. A success me thinks!

Went with my family tonight for our second visit. This is the first time we have eaten. Food really good and good value too. Will visit again as been made welcome on both our visits even though we're not local!

A quiet Tuesday evening. Pie and a pint night but we had the Lasagna and the club sandwich with chips. The sandwich was large and tastey. Didn't really need chips with it. My daughter had the Lasagna which came with garlic bread and salad. The portion seemed small but my daughter said it was enough. Would deffinately go again.

We were less than impressed when we called at the Green Dragon one lunchtime this week to be told that the landlord wasn't around and no food would be available until he got back, but I'm very glad that we waited for 15 minutes or so.

It was very emotional come back to this lovely place after a long time. It use to be my friend's husband favorite pub. We were not dissappointed. The meal was fantastic, the land lord very friendly, nice atmosphere. We really enjoy it. We came from Manchester and it was worthy. We definetively will come back again. Thank you so much for keeping and improving this place.

A lovely village pub. Had a delicious house curry from the varied menu at a reasonable price. Various ales on the bar too. Lady behind the bar was very friendly and we felt well looked after. Definitely one to return to!
