What has happened to this lovely local? Used to be buzzing and vibrant. A real community pub. Now no atmosphere, very quiet and the beer range has gone massively downhill. What a sad situation. All the locals seem to be at 3C

Having an off day? So a little disappointing to be honest, I love this pub normally, great beer, great food and i can only think this was an off day because of the gigs going on at Alexandra palace. I ordered a burger, now I am fond of burgers and try burger restaurants and burgers at most places I visit. £17.50 for a burger is very top end (bar a couple of places), for this, you get proper patties from a butcher or home made, with extras to jazz it up to make it feel worth the money. I understand the food industry and know that the ratio of 4:1 for price sold to ingredient costs. I am sorry but the burger sold below is embarrassing, that is literally a £1 sainsburys burger and those are not triple cooked chips, they are literally mcaains chips fried, meaning the cost of that would be £2 MAX. If you charged £10 i would expect that, but to charge £17.50 its daylight robbery and embarassing Now I can only assume this was an off day and normally the burger is better and maybe you ran out of the quality ingredients because of how busy it's been this week? Anyway, I am sure to be back as this place is usually on point!

A traditional British pub with original features and a large garden area. The garden area at the back had covered areas. The staff were all very friendly And we thoroughly enjoyed our visit. We had 2 starters and some cheesy chips that were tasty. The one factor that made the visit memorable was the decor of the pub it’s original old features all kept spotlessly clean. We will go again and I recommend that if you are anywhere near this area try to fit in a visit, even if it’s just to see a traditional English pub.

Food is very poor & overpriced. Cheeseburger reminded me of the McDonald's value one that you add to your main order as an extra for£1.19. Not worth the £17+ we paid. The mushy peas with the fish was a teaspoon full. Very disappointing experience.

I’ve been looking forward to seeing inside the pub for years , managed to go last week . Wow what a shock , a once beautiful interior slowly decaying through neglect . I had imagined shining leather , gleaming well maintained brass and beautiful highly polished etched glass .None of this was evident we had the misfortune of sitting at a table near the toilets , which I used , filthy and the smell ??? The whole pub was dirty rotten .As custodians of a historic building and interior like that , you should be ashamed

Twice I have made a reservation online to eat at this pub and twice on arrival have been told that the kitchen is closed. The first time, I booked lunch on a Sunday at 2pm with some friends, there’s no one welcoming you and telling you where to sit, or to tell you to order at the bar. When we went up to order we were told that kitchen wasn’t taking anymore orders. Baffling. The second time we made a reservation for a meal on New Years Day. We arrived, found our table, ordered a drink and when we had looked at the menu and went to order we were told that the kitchen had closed 5 mins ago. I was furious as we had booked it to see friends who had made an effort to come. Why accept the reservation knowing that we wouldn’t be able to eat. We had a drink and sat there watching loads of delicious looking meals parade past us whilst we tucked into a plastic pot of nuts. It needs to be managed properly, the current service isn’t good enough. I won’t be booking again.

Went for a few drinks with friends on a Saturday night and the whole front bar was over run with very noisy toddlers. Climbing on chairs, tables, bar stools and lying screaming on the floor. The bar staff did nothing about it and the parents were too busy drinking to notice or care. Such a pretty pub but totally ruined - better places close by.

2 stars, one for the lovely staff, one for the awesome ceiling. We reserved a table and sat for over 30 minutes until we had to realise for ourselves you had to order from the bar. Fair enough, would have been nice to be advised though. Ordered an espresso martini. Was the worst I’ve ever had, the barmaid seemed embarrassed to say it was premixed. Nevertheless we ordered food. 40 minutes later 4 plates of awesome portion sizes came out. Like, massive. And looked ace too. Yet extraordinarily it was both burnt AND cold. Given we’d been there for so long and we were so hungry we smashed it. But, if I go out I want something of quality. I’m a crap cook but could do better. Also no horseradish. Also, the chap dropped all the cutlery in one of the plates. Sad times. Don’t get me wrong, it was a fun experience, but only because everything got worse and worse. It’s probably an amazing boozer to have beers in, but for food? I’m sorry but no. Couldn’t bear to stay for pudding. X

It all started so well, upon entry to the pub for our pre-booked Xmas day lunch, the first impression of the interior and staff was favourable. It was nicely decorated for the Xmas vibe and the staff were friendly and stayed like that throughout our visit. However...the issue we had was primarily with the food. Reading the Xmas day menu when booked in advance several weeks before Xmas you could have been forgiven for thinking you would be served Gastropub food...it really sounded wonderful on paper but most definitely did not follow through on execution. The starter was chicken liver pate with brioche...wherever I have been before the Brioche slice is usually toasted...this just gave u 2 soft bread slices which was a bit underwhelming. The Main for me was Beef Wellington and I can honestly say this was NOT how it should be. Never have I had a Wellington cut in half before serving it, nor getting the meat overdone plus the pastry totally undercooked...sorry guys but that should not have been served in that way. The dessert was meant to be poached berries with yuzu gel and hazelnut crumb..well the way that was served looked like someone had slopped some berries in a small lidded plate, with hazelnut crumb nowhere to be seen but meringue pieces appearing as seeming substitute. The eyes partake in the food served and this was not a pleasant plate I am sorry to say. I know Covid and Brexit place all sorts of restrictions and hardships on the hospitality industry, pubs being of course part of this, hence us not wincing when we were charged the full whack of £160 for really poorly executed food PLUS 12.5% service charge. However no canapees despite showing on the menu but only when we enquired about that halfway through the Mains (as had forgotten until then that we should have received them) were we told they were not fortcoming and instead we could have another free glass of Prossecco. Same happened with coffee and tea and choc truffle..again that showed on the menu but nada...and 'free' tea/coffee would be available..well that was part of the menu anyway and would have been paid for, so offering this for free was a moot point. Normally I would have given 2 points, the reason it made it to 3 points is the relaxed vibe in the place and the friendly staff...the saving grace for this place. The food seemed to have been prepared by someone who either did not care or did not know about food. The ingredients themselves were not of bad quality but they were not treated with love nor passion, allowing for the producing of a lovely Xmas day meal. It was lacklustre at best, especially compared to the beautifully worded menu. There is loads of room for improvement on the food execution front and if you nail that it would be a true local gem.

The food here was definitely decent, the prices were reasonable and the garden is lovely! My only issue was that from the moment we arrived, the staff were very keen to make us aware that we only had 2 hours. I appreciate that they had a tight turnover but they reminded us every 15 minutes and when I tried to order a drink half an hour before the end of our time, I was told I could have one but only if I could definitely drink it in that time. They then reminded us about 3 times in the last 10 minutes that we soon had to leave. It made the experience feel quite rushed and stressful and did detract from an otherwise very pleasant experience!

Advised through the medium of social media that the brewing magic of Huddersfield's Magic Rock was having a tap takeover down in the Smoke gave me no excuse but to finally visit a pub that had been on my radar for a while. Very close to Hornsey station, or if coming on the Underground, take the Piccadilly line to Turnpike Lane and then a fifteen minute walk or a five minute 144 bus ride with a stop just after the pub.An extensive, huge, great II listed late Victorian building awaits you which has been renovated to a high standard but which retains lots of the historical features. A large main room has different partitioned areas and there's a further adjoining large room that has a fantastic real fire that's worth going to just for that.I strapped myself into the Magic Rock range by ordering two separate third pint flights of three which came with a great food offer, consisting of the flight and one of the excellent bar snacks for £8.00. The calamari I had were good and came with a great dip and I then finished with some great nachos with my second flight, by which time I was definitely airborne, thankfully without having to remove my belt or remove my shoes. Or arrive at the pub 'at least' two hours before my first pint. The pub was busy on this Thursday night and there were some people really into their beers and there for the Magic Rock takeover which was nice to see. It's a lovely pub with great food and worth you visiting. If you're there on a cold day when the fire's roaring, then you'll love it even more as there's something about pubs with real fires and it was great just watching the logs burn down in the flames and then throwing another log on.The staff were very helpful and it gave the impression of a slick operation. The longer I was there, the less I wanted to go but tempus fugit and it was sadly time to go. And there was a band playing who were good.Full marks also to Fuller's for operating the pub in the first place (well off their usual west London manor, centring on Chiswick) and then having the foresight to get involved with off-kilter events like inviting the outrageously brilliant Magic Rock for a tap takeover on a Thursday night. I'll look at a pint of Pride differently from now on. What a great place. Ale be back.

We have visited this venue on numerous occasions both before and after it had been renovated. The renovation is a massive improvement to the old venue, which now has decent toilets and a nice menu for food. We've only had a couple of dishes so far and overall the quality has been good but the quality of the sweet potato fries has varied a little bit from crispy to soggy, and the wine list could be expanded a little but these are a minor gripe really. There is a DJ at weekends who plays a good range of old school 80s / 90s music which was right up our street. We've been here just for drinks as well as food. The Sunday roast looks pretty decent and it gets very busy on at the weekends so it pays to arrive early. They now also have a partially covered terrace out the back. The venue is quickly attracting a local artistic crowd (A huge improvement from before) They have a smoking terrace/garden out the back which is being used as a performance space on the 26th of July for Comedy of Errors at 730pm, while another friend of ours attended an excellent Script Writing workshop in the space upstairs the other day. An all round outstanding venue with good and helpful staff. 'If you build it, they will come...' Very true indeed. I shall be booking my birthday party here this year.

I saw that they were having a refit and it seemed to go on for ages and ages so was curious as much as anything to see what they'd done to the place. What they've done is incredible, just fantastic. They seem to have renovated an old Victorian building back to its former splendour with great high ceilings, massive wooden bar and lovely furniture dotted throughout - it's all lovely (I love a "proper" good pub). We started off there with a family Sunday lunch which was tremendous and we've been back a few times for Sunday lunch since - absolutely top notch grub, large portions, tastes fantastic. I'm particularly impressed with their selection of beers. I'm an ex bar/pub owner and have a high bar (boom boom) and they have a world class selection across a huge range. Loads of local brews too so I'm a happy camper. The staff are all lovely, bright, cheerful and knowledgeable (it's refreshing to go somewhere that the staff seem to enjoy working at). We've just had a little baby too so experiencing the delights of trying to manoeuvre a buggy around but the Northern is a big old place with loads of space and the staff have always been super happy to help. They have an incredible beer garden out the back with a fire pit and plenty of tables. They also have these cool covered booths along the back wall too, we were lucky to cop a table as it's a suntrap.I love this pub, it's beautifully done out, friendly, welcoming, comfortable and quirky cool and I heartily recommend it!

Relaxed atmosphere although very busy. Went with friends including a 2 month old baby. Substantial portions with enormous Yorkshire Puddings and a very nice vegetarian option. It was also the first time any of us had been asked if there were any food allergies before ordering - one of us had a nut allergy so full marks for this. The refurbishment is brilliant - all the Victorian feel is still there. Very impressed with the Ladies too!

Went for Sunday roast, very nice refurbished pub. However the food was a bit haphazard, portion sizes for the same thing varied widely, and nothing was exactly as described on the menu. E.g. Two pork roasts, one half the size of the other, only one had crackling, and neither had the promised apple sauce. And in such a large pub why oh why put the toilets 2 floors up! Don't know if it was a regular occurrence but when we went a lot of seats were taken up by small children and we found it quite off putting

This wonderful old Victoria pub has recently undergone a major makeover. Already a beautiful building with original features, the pub has recently had a very tastefully done much needed face-lift. Being locals, my partner decided to celebrate her birthday here and we reserved an area. We had around 20 fiends join us, and all had a great time - with many impressed with the renovation work and character of the pub. A massive thank you must be said to the staff who were brilliant all night long and were kind enough to take the time to advise us on the many drinks available. Jess, the manager took the time to introduce herself to us at the beginning of the night and checked in on us to make sure all was well - even though we were pretty loud enjoying ourselves- and George and Patrick behind the bar were very professional in putting up with us! The pub also has a lovely outside area and a great selection of ales and beers. A few of us ate, and the food was also of a better standard than expected. Would definitely recommend, and we will be back soon.

This pub is a nice cozy local that is perfect for a weekday drink. Friendly staff and decent drink selection. A tad bit dark and dingy but not in a bad way for a classic pub. Haven't tried the food but might be ok. Bathrooms could be cleaner. Great quiz night on wednesdays

Good range of beer, nice atmosphere although sometimes fairly quiet even on the weekend. This is nice as it's not rammed but hope it's not a worrying sign for them! The kitchen was back open when I last went, we had an ok Sunday roast a few months ago - nothing to write home about but maybe it has got better since! But it's a great place for a drink

This pub is a community pub requested by a spectrum of people from Hornsey. The pub building itself is listed and has some lovely design features. They do an excellent Sunday Roast. Has a very good room which is good for hiring out for events and a beer garden.

I have really tried with this pub. It's not been easy. Chatty seats. Smelly toilets. Distracted cliquey staff. But up until now the beer has made it worthwhile. A great selection and usually OK but not tonight. Same staff and seats and loos but this time with cloudy, sour beer and even soggy crisps. I know ale goes off. But it's usually signalled by a cloudiness and a smell. Both were the case tonight but the barmaid still served it between bouts on her iPad..... and I've sent it back. With the soggy crisps. Dammit. I wanted this place to work.

Don't bother visiting this pub if you like real ale - there isn't any. I've been in for the last three Fridays and only lager available. Sadly this pub has gone downhill massively in the last year or so.

We were looking for a place to eat before heading to a gig at Ali Pali and saw the exterior of this pub. It has the most amazing "glass" both outside and in. Inside there is some amazing engraved glass and wood panels. The outside windows have huge panes of semi-circular glass which define the view from the street. There was even great pints of american IPA and Czech lager.

Pubs such as this are a rare treat in London these days - the warmth and friendliness of the staff and regulars, great beer, and even a Jazz Night on Thursday! The band featuring Mornington Lockett sax and Dick Pearce tpt were simply superb this Thursday night, with the youthful John Critchinson on piano, Mick Sexton bass and Dave Barry drums providing excellent support.Incidentally, the Chilean pinot noir was also just great, we downed two bottles during the show! This venue is a real treat and to be savoured, there are so few left in London!

I live just off Hornsey High Street and, despite this being slightly more expensive than what I'm used to (having lived in Newcastle) this pub is brilliant. The prices are pretty standard for London, so don't expect miracles. But you can expect atmosphere, welcome and quality. It is rare that the staff of a pub are so friendly, fun and welcoming. The people who work here seem to always engage you in genuine (seeming) conversation, They are either lovely or the best actors I have met.If you want a night of drinking ale sourced from various small, medium and large breweries across the country, sampling a variety of scotch or even just going with lager from either the river Amstel or the city of Asahi, come here. Alongside quality ales and lagers, there is always live music and, often, a dog who wanders around who is also great. This is a lovely, lovely pub and I would recommend it for an evening of catching up, conversation and/or music.

Beer was great, its a Taylor Walker pub I believe, and with proper comfort food - I had Battered Haddock & Chips, my friend Bangers & Mash - both well done. This was my first visit to this Hornsey institution, and I was pleasantly surprised by the size and old-world faded grandeur of the pub, a very comfortable local. And as an added Thurs night treat, the jazz group playing was the George Crowley Quintet, really excellent modern jazz. Such a pleasure to hear superb musicians playing not only classics by Dewey Redman and Thelonius Monk, but their own amazingly good compositions.I will return.
