The Grantley Arms in Waverley

I thought the service was crap... Young & inexperienced I thought that food was bland and boring... got orders wrong as well... not great. Think will go to one of the other great local pubs for a bit...

We visited for Sunday dinner with two elderly relatives. What a lovely evening, the food was delicious and it was a really nice atmosphere. We were looked after by the staff. I had been looking forward to a roast dinner and it didn’t disappoint! Thank you

The Grantley Arms had such a great atmosphere and lovely food. Ned was very attentive. We will of course definitely be back again!

Friends from Wiltshire came up for Sunday lunch. We had two roasts and the fish special. The roasts are always good. The fish was amazing. Service from Freya, Hazel and the boys was the usual very high standard. Thank you.

Normally the Grantley Arms is one of my top 10 places to visit, but not on this occasion, Myself, Mum and Dad decided to go there for lunch. We were shown to the back of the Main Restaurant and seated, Mum and Dad noticed it was rather cold but didn't want to make a fuss. We Don't normally have starters but on this occasion we did just to warm us up, Mum and Dad had the Soup, while I had the Scottish Mussels no complaints there and the service was outstanding. The problem started just before the Main Course a large party entered the back of the room and made so much noise you could hardly hear yourself think and to make matters worse the Main Courses weren't much better either, Mum had Wild Mushroom Cassoulet, while Dad and I had Cyder Battered Haddock and triple Cooked Chips. I asked Mum how was her Wild Mushroom Cassoulet hardly any Mushrooms in it, as for ours Dad seemed to enjoy it, I was less than impressed, it has seemed that the Battered Haddock had been left in the fryer way to long and the so-called Triple Cooked Chips were actually French Fries. With Starters one round of Drinks and Main Courses plus Service Charges it came to just over £100 pounds, since leaving I have had a bad tummy ache. My advice to the restaurant is stick with tradition Beer Battered Haddock is a safer option than Cyder. My Final Thought after this experience is the Grantley Arms is no longer in my Top 10 Places.

Disappointing. Had great expectations but they forgot about our order and were waiting over an hour for our food and when it came the portions were miserly

The roast lunches were served barely warm. The meal was flavourless and all brown and orange in colour. For £22.50 I expected better quality.

I relied on a friend’s recommendation when I booked a lunch buffet for gathering of local friends and family to celebrate the life of my late husband, and was not disappointed. I dealt with Jen initially for the booking and our requirements, and then with Warren on the day. Both bent over backwards to help make the occasion memorable and stress free, aided by their team….compliments all round! The function room was just right and the buffet delicious, with special dietary requirements well catered. And the bill was a pleasant suprise too!! Excellent value for money. I shall certainly call in for a drink when next in the area.

We had a family gathering for 15 in the Old Bakery room just off the restaurant . Both the food and service were excellent. The room had a lovely atmosphere and just what we were looking for. Highly recommend. A big thank you to all the staff involved.

Our first time here (booking was easy online) The exterior is a good example of the old buildings in Wonersh and the interior has been refurbished by Youngs Pub but has kept it's local feel. The vast interior is cleverly split into various "rooms" We were welcomed by Will (given the choice of various tables) who took our drinks order straight away. Now to the food. My wife had the Hake Scampi with delicious hasselback potatoes, and I hade the fish and chips. The batter was extraordinary but the mushy peas were completely naff. All in all, we were pleased with the food and Will was the perfect host. This pub is on our shortlist now.

Our usual table booked and set. We chose from the light lunch menu. The Cumberland sausage sandwiches with a side of yummy chips were delicious and the battered haddock sandwich and chips was the freshest, best fish in the lightest, crispiest batter that I have devoured in a very long time. Thank you to the chef and the polite, friendly and attentive staff. Service was a little slow, particularly as the restaurant was extremely quiet but we weren’t in any rush so it didn’t detract from our enjoyment. 🤗 We shall look forward to visiting for our next lunch booking in March!

Great experience as usual with good food and great staff. However, if I had any requests, it's to stop the habit some pubs like this have, of giving sides of peas or ketchup or other items served in tiny miniscule pots, as if they are on ration.

Delicious dinner! The Grantley always delivers...excellent quality food, with efficient and friendly service. The Specials Board always adds some new interest value, plus there was an additional BBQ option last night...an excellent Rawlings steak burger was sampled with delight! Some great new veggie options on the current menu...wonderful flavours were enjoyed in the pumpkin cassoulet, which was both tasty and generous. We are very fortunate to have this as our local pub!

We were staying in the area and ended up eating at this pub three days in a row! The staff could not have been more accommodating, even on the Saturday night when we turned up as a group of 25 having not booked! We had the most lovely waitress, Freya who was so warm and helpful. Yesterday we came for Sunday lunch which was delicious and another brilliant waiter, Adam who was again so friendly and helpful. The food is absolutely delicious and there is a fantastic choice of wines. Would highly recommend and will definitely be back next time we are in the area.

What a fantastic visit! Thank you so much for providing the perfect venue for our family celebration in the old Bakery. From the warm welcome to the excellent service and delicious lunches…. Friendly staff, good beer, interesting menu, good food, nice inside and out. Early Saturday lunchtime, not too crowded but clearly popular with the locals. We came on spec having walked from Guildford. Usefully, the bus leaves from directly outside.

Over the last year or so the portion sizes have become smaller and smaller to the point where where dining at the Grantley Arms is no longer even reasonable value. I touched on this with the person who brought my dessert to the table and he hit back with an almost rude defence. We doubt we will return to the Grantley Arms which is a pity because since Covid we have been regular diners bringing with us every visit at least two other friends.

My boyfriend and I ate here tonight, he had the burger and I had the skate wing special. I have never had skate wing that well cooked before and with the accompaniments it was just fantastic and amazing value. HUGE thank you to Matthew and also Jen, Stu and Warren. Always an amazing evening with great staff and atmosphere. Will be back very soon!
