The Grange Pub in Cardiff

Actually, we came here SEVERAL times during our visit to Cardiff - we liked it so much1 But..listen...get the fish and chips here. I know you're supposed to get them at a dive, or a chippery, or whatever...but THESE fish and chips are to die for. Not greasy, super flaky, with FRESH mushy peas! NOM NOM NOM!!

Very very expensive place, I paid £7 for one lager…

Great local pub with a wide selection of ales, plus Haze on tap which is a plus for me! Fried chicken is delicious.

Went in for a couple of pints before heading to the Principality for the rugby. Ended up staying until the last second after finding a stellar IPA, watching the earlier game on the big screen, and ordering a plate of fried chicken after seeing how good it looked on the next table. Booking essential on busier days.

Lovely cosy pub with great food, often events like international sports matches being shown, pub quizzes etc etc good for kids too with high chairs, kids menu and a selection of toys, as well as a bit of outside space

Good place to grap a pint before Wales games about 20 min walk to to Cardiff city ground.

Lovely 'local' with friendly staff and good selection of beers and ales. Good selection of food on the menu at reasonable prices. Proper bar and tidy lounge. I recommend the Dirty Fries.

Always great beer and a good atmosphere

A real gem of a place. Eight of us "Old blokes" turned up today at random. Great range of beers, lovely atmosphere, and the food was the icing on the cake. Just superb good service. Hope to be back soon

A dog-friendly bar with a variety of food and drink options. They have many options in terms of lager/beer/pale ale (They also serve many Welsh Lagers and Pale Ales here). The popular dish, Grange Fried Chicken (GFC), is a hearty portion of amazingly seasoned chicken and chips, house-slaw, corn, and gravy. Another favourite of mine is the loaded fries. However, since the topping changes every week, sometimes the dish can be underwhelming. The Grange holds its weekly quiz night on Wednesdays! The Quiz night has a very good atmosphere and the best teams win prizes.

An all-around great pub. Very busy for mid-week with amazing staff behind the bar. They've a decent selection of draught beers and a reasonably sized menu, although I didn't try the food. Its a little out of the way of the city centre but worth the trip

A great pub! Go here every Wednesday for the pub quiz, thought we would try the roast on a Sunday, was very nice! Make sure to book, it can sell out quite quick!

You need to preorder the Sunday roast via Facebook the day before to avoid disappointment. It wasn't busy at all but we didn't preorder as they just have a Facebook page, didn't know you have to message then there to book your Sunday roast.. burguers where fine, but so sad to visit cardiff and try far away rather than in town to help local businesses and don't get what you want to eat cause of lack of info.

We ate here twice during our stay in Cardiff, first day and last dinner. It was the local pub down the street from our Airbnb. Just walked in on first afternoon and bartender was super friendly and the food was great. Fried chicken sandwich and burgers. Seriously might be best chicken sandwich of my life. Not a busy restaurant downtown. This place full of locals and in a middle class area. Beer was great and bartender gave excellent advice regarding places to visit. Highly recommend.

Good selection of drinks, including a few different ciders. Relaxed and welcoming atmosphere. I had fish and chips (really well done) but my husband's loaded fries were disappointing- however, the fries/chips themselves were excellent and the toppings change, so it may be better other days. We would definitely go back.

I had an incredibly good time at The Grange!!! Starting with drink, there is a wide selection of beers and spirits that are sure to sate anyone's tastes. The pub has a grand atmosphere; between the music, the (entirely positive) smell of old wood, and the meticulous decorum it maintains itself as a really approachable and genuine. I've had the loaded fries with cauliflower cheese and bacon, as well as an incredible sweet mayonnaise (I think it was mixed with cranberry???) That really blew my mind. Generous portions, I skipped breakfast and was still fully satisfied after. The staff were friendly, a special shout-out out to "Bunny" James who was very knowledgeable about the beers on tap, as well as genuinely warm and helpful in every matter. Highly recommended for anyone, from solo travellers to families.

Definitely the best pub in Grangetown, less than ten minutes walk from the back of Cardiff Central Station. Decent choice of beers, a really good beer garden, the pub is also dog friendly. The food is fantastic, really really enjoyed the fried chicken burger, as well as the wings.

The Grange is a fab pub and one of our favourites on the west side of the river. There are always at least 3 Real Ales, usually great changing guests. The staff are really friendly and the pints are good quality and a good price for so close to Cardiff city centre

I ate in the Grange yesterday with a vegetarian friend. Excellent menu choice for both of us. Our meals were well prepared and presented. I like that they’ve not made it in to a yuppi pub but I am getting concerned about the proliferation of craft ales, they’re not to my taste but that is a personal thing. Did I mention the staff? They couldn’t be better, I was even offered tasters of beers so I could make my choice. I will be visiting again soon. —————————— Tues 4th April 2023 - One year on and it was even better than last time. The menu is improved if that’s possible. Plenty of veggie choice if that’s your thing. Still a smidge disappointed there’s no bitter available but the food makes up for that. Highly recommended (again) try it, you won’t be disappointed. Well done all at the grange👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

Great place for a pre match pint

Bar staff very friendly, premises clean and tidy.

The Guinness here is so so good, the best pint I've had outside of Ireland, it still tastes amazing in the traditional pre-football match plastic glasses! Also amazing pub food and a great atmosphere before Wales games.

Traditional real ale pub run by and for the local community but a great welcome for everyone. Good food to go with the excellent choice of beers. Whenever I'm in Cardiff this is my first choice of watering hole.

Just got back from having lunch here. The food was fantastic and more than I could finish. I had the Pork Belly. It was cooked perfectly and was accumpanied by cabbage, cauliflower, roast potatoes, carrots, parsnip, yorkshire pud and gravy. Well recommended by me. Its a feast for stomach and eyes 💯

Gone downhill since it opened. Gents toilets were stinking so badly the amonia vapours brought tears to your eyes. Not what you expect for a pub that charges £7 to £9 for a glass of wine.

One of my things about living in Grangetown - nice pub, people are friendly, dog friendly (which is as a dog fan is a massive perk), vegan food feels like it's not an afterthought and is nice! Good beer selection and whilst I've not taken part yet I've heard the pub quiz and I've worked out the answers myself and it's a good time

I'd wanted to come here for years whilst living in Cardiff but unfortunately never had the chance.. I finally took my partner here for a Sunday roast, and the Grange did not disappoint! The staff were friendly, the food was delicious, and the atmosphere was lovely and vibrant... Definitely recommend!!!

Walked in at 8.55pm. Last orders for food was 9pm. Staff got to me at 9.01pm and refused me food. 1 minute passed 9pm if the 2 staff were not chatting it would have been OK. I think the kick in the teeth is the "9.01pm sorry with a grin" that made my blood boil. I eat there not massively, twice a month with my partner bit that's me done.

This place could be better, I visited on a football home game but unfortunately every table in the two rooms of the pub was reserved I can only guess for a quiz???? Leaving myself and quite a few other families having to stand and get in other patrons way, not ideal with young children.

Lovely pub inside. Doesn't look like a chain pub. Has lots of character inside. Nice to see dogs allowed inside. Food was really good. Few bad things; Doesn't specify on menu if the Grange fried chicken is on or off the bone. (I should have asked too) They didn't serve any deserts when we went on a friday night. Would definitely go back and recommend to others too.

Having moved to Grangetown a few years ago, The Grange has become our much loved local. Dai and the team do a brilliant job. Love the place!

Auf unsere Rundreise in Wales waren wir 2 Nächte in Cardiff. Der Pub war unweit unserer Unterkunft. Von außen unscheinbar aber grosser Pub drinnen mit Biergarten. Personal sehr freundlich und nett. Leider haben wir dort nicht gegessen. Sah aber alles gut aus auf den Tellern der Leute. Tolle Musik dort und viele Einheimische Wir empfehlen den Pub weiter.

We started to visit this pub recently because we live in Grangetown, and we love it. The staff, the food, the environment, everything is great. Definitely we recommend it and we will come back soon.

Little choice in Grangetown since closure of other pubs. No deals and high prices considering this is a local pub. A local pub charging town prices. Could vastly improve things by introducing reasonably priced Sunday lunches and deals.

We’ve eaten Sunday lunch all over the City and this is definitely right up there!! At £12.95 we consider it excellent value and everything on the plate is just perfect. Marry that with the warm welcome and great service it really is a foodie destination you should be heading too We’ll definitely be returning very soon xx

Popped in this pub post visiting the Tramshed. There was a lovely cask stout on. Service was friendly. Also was a quiz night. I think the ambience could be improved with some uplighting as it was a bit too bright ( for me). Would return though.

Pub has gone down hill because of the attitude of some of the staff. This has made me visit less frequently. This has also been noted by a number of my friends. Staff act like you're an inconvenience, especially at the end of the night when they want to close. J've had staff threaten to take my drink off me and when questioned tell me that they can close when they want. Hardly a welcoming environment. They are lucky there aren't many other options in the area as I wouldn't choose to visit a pub with such unfriendly staff. J've never experienced this anywhere else.

Second (and third) visits to The Grange whilst in Cardiff for the rugby. First visit 3 years ago and enjoyed it - hence the 2nd and 3rd visits last Saturday. Plenty of room, served quickly and efficiently by pleasant staff, clean toilets - all round excellent pub. Will definitely be my pub for rugby on future visits - I live in London

Great local pub, probably the nicest in Grangetown seems more modern and 'trendy' than the others. The food is great, I'm still yet to try a roast on a Sun day (it's on my list!) but the burgers are delicious and I had a very nice curry a few times as well. Not overly keen on the beer selection but not a major problem . The pub is dog friendly and has a nice large outdoors area too, perfect for hot summer days. Definitely recommend.
