The Golden Pheasant in Peterborough

Staff were welcoming and the food was delicious. Ordered fish and chips and was made to perfection. We treated ourselves to a cocktail and it was fabulous. Will definitely be visiting again.

Although the pub was busy the staff were very friendly and attentive. We both had the roast beef, which was cooked well and tender, as was the vegetables, a nice touch was the gravy came in a gravy boat so you could put on as much as you liked. The outside of the pub looked as if there was a lot of character, although the interior did not reflect this. Overall the food was good, the service was good and it was not over priced.

We went for lunch today and wanted to sit outside in the park area as our children were playing they had no problem in bringing the food over to us, very friendly and had a little laugh with one of the ladies. We ordered the vegetarian pizza which was so lovely not greasy or fatty the chips were lovely and crispy. We also ordered the sea bass and WOW it was amazing so so tasty and we ordered chicken nuggets for the kids which were lovely and golden and crispy and chunky well done to the chef. We also let the kids play on the crazy golf and I love how much fun it looks with the cute little animals the kids loved playing it and price was good too. We can't wait to hopefully have our wedding here if we can secure the date. thank you for such a lovely experience today.

The staff were friendly and helpful. The greeting was good. The drinks were nice and presented well . However, the only thing that let them down was the food. We had the pil pil prawn and this was dreadful. It was 4/5 slightly anemic prawns laying in fat with raw chilli and prawn in. The mains were the burger and fish which were ok. Overall a nice place to go , lovely setting , good drinks but the food let them down

A Tuesday lunch. Just 2 of us and we had the steak and the plaice. Absolutely delicious, John was very welcoming and we had a really good funny time. I can't reccomend this place highly enough and will certainly be going back.Beautiful clean building too.

This is a gem of a place, the staff invite you in and make you feel very welcome. They take time to talk with you, deliver excellent table service and the food is delicious. We love the Northern Soul background music and ambiance. Great people, great food and attentive service. No surprise it’s busy and well deserved to be. Try it out, I doubt you’ll be disappointed.

We stopped here for lunch whilst on holiday at nearby Landal Rockingham Forest Park. There was a lovely peaceful outside area and plenty of parking available.We ordered drinks and I asked for an IPA, which they did not have so settled for a nice pint of Doombar. When the drinks arrived the waiter (Owner) also bought out a taster of the nearest they had to an IPA called Atlantic, a nice touch and also a very nice ale! For our mains we ordered fish & chips, and steak & ale pie. Both dishes were very nice, the fish was well cooked with a light crispy batter. The steak & ale pie was excellent and full of tender chunks of steak. For desserts we had strawberry cheesecake and Etton mess. Both dishes were very tasty, the strawberries were excellent. The only slight negative was half way through our meal a food delivery truck arrived and parked in the area opposite where we were sat and left the noisy engine running which spoiled the lovely peaceful ambience. However it was only there for 10 minutes or so and supplies need to be delivered. The service was friendly and efficient throughout even when it became busy very quickly. We had a very enjoyable lunch and it was great to see an independent pub / restaurant so busy.

Have visited before when staying locally & booked an outside table for lunch last weekend. We called ahead to say running a little late as walk took longer than expected. When we arrived we had a table in the shade with water provided for our dogs which was a lovely touch. There are pubs that have adapted in covid times ! All we can say is wow for this one in terms of their outside area - the bar definitely raised! Just beautiful & sensible system in place for ordering / toilet access etc. Everywhere spotless & food was gorgeous with quick service even though it was dead busy. Our waitress was super attentive & gave good drinks recommendations. Will defo be back next time in area was just lovely - well done could see it’s a well run ship!

What a fantastic country pub. The host was professional, friendly and extremely welcoming. The food was fabulous and the service was fantastic. I would recommend this venue to anyone wanting great food and great service. Businesses like this are rare. Long may your success continue. Thank you for a great evening.

Visited as a family of 7 to this sleepy village location. Everyone was catered for which included 2 vegetarians and a vegan. Stunning home made food which was piping hot and presented perfectly. The landlord is amazing with a great personality and warm, friendly manner. Do give this place a try, you won’t regret it !!! Will back very soon !! Thank you .

We popped in for an evening meal on a Thursday, we had the fish and chips and pizza which were both lovely and cooked to perfection. The staff were very attentive and the atmosphere was lively. It is always busy which is a testament to the food and staff - will definitely be back!

We really enjoyed our evening meal at this lovely, welcoming pub/restaurant. The hosts Johnno and Kirstene were very helpful and friendly. Our food was excellent, the steaks were cooked perfectly. We visited on a Wednesday evening and it was pleasantly busy and had a great atmosphere. It was lovely to find a great restaurant on the outskirts of Peterborough and we would recommend it to anyone visiting this area.

First time eating here and the food is to die for!! I had a burger and chips , I've never had food like it before! Me and my family felt really comfortable with the covid measures In place to and the staff were amazing and quick service! Would highly recommend to anyone .

Back again and cannot fault the staff or food here. The landlady does all the cooking from scratch and it’s fab, fresh and tasty, definitely 5 stars. The staff and landlord are very attentive and regularly check if everything is ok or if you’d like more drinks etc. Loads of seating space outside when the weather is good and plenty of parking. Keep up the good work, we’ll be back again very soon!

We went out for our anniversary meal, plus points beautiful location outside due to Covid. As we got there owner said he was closing at 7, we arrived at 6. I had burger, very plain & boring. I had salad with it which was good. Hubby had steak okay. Considering the price I would expect some beautiful relish or onion rings as would my husband. Value for money very poor. It will be a very long time till I go back and spend my hard earned cash of £50 for two main courses a red wine and shandy!! Very disappointing...

Meeting family in the middle of where we all live so didn't know the place. They were very friendly and helpful when I arranged to book. Staff were friendly, helpful and efficient and the food was excellent... they were right - they said their steak and ale pie was the best I'd have and it was! Thank you for making our evening pleasurable.

We went for an evening meal at the Golden Pheasant, (when we were allowed to in December!) and had a absolutely lovely evening. Everything was so safe and the food was absolutely delicious - I had fish, and my husband had the pie - would really recommend both. Also Johno and Kirstene regularly do a Facebook live music night (soul/funk/northern soul etc) which is brilliant - Please do another soon!

Mark and I want to say a massive thank you to all the staff at the golden pheasant. It was a last minute decision to move our venue as sadly our original one had to close. We were recommended the golden pheasant from a friend and we couldn’t have wished for a better place! They went above and beyond to make our day wonderful! The staff were friendly and welcoming, always popping in and seeing if we were okay, and were so quick and efficient if we needed something. Could not fault their service at all. The food, was Devine! The presentation was beautiful and it was all so delicious! Mark and I are so grateful to John, his wife and his crew! Thank you again and we will visit again soon xx

This is our favourite pub and restaurant, and whilst we can't go there in person, Johnno and Kirstene have once again kept us all going with their lockdown vinyl afternoon. We can't recommend this place enough ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Great pub, great food and the staff are very friendly lots of outdoor seating and playground for kids. The quiz nights and vinyl nights playing soul ska and funk are very entertaining.

We love coming for meals with family in “normal” times - last visited in September for my parents wedding anniversary, my nephews love it too as they can go outside & play while we enjoy after dinner drinks . Thank you for cheering us up through lock down with the DJ sets - the one today was fab - can’t wait to actually visit again but until then KTF ( to those that know)

Have been here a number of times and me and the family highly rate the food its lovely. Staff are super friendly and the grounds are well kept and child friendly. Excellent in the summer months. one of our fave places to go.

We booked a table for a late Sunday lunch as we were in the area sightseeing and walking. Staff were perhaps a bit pushed due to how popular the place clearly is, table service puts an extra strain on any busy pub, but this is no complaint, all staff were attentive and friendly and helpful. Selection of ales, open fire. From the Sunday menu my wife had the roast lamb - very nice, well-presented, all trimmings and a large portion - and I tried the burger, again delicious. Dessert-wise the chocolate brownie was lovely. We would definitely book again if in the area and try out further menu options, recommend.

WOW...steak and ale pie was out of this world! Delicious pastry, loaded with amazing slow cooked beef which melted in the mouth. Topped off the evening with a couple of drinks in JK’s soul lounge, perfect end to a perfect night.

It was the first time we (a group of four) had been for a meal here and it wont be the last!The service was excellent from start to finish, the food was of superb quality and the bill was extremely reasonable. Our group opted for pies and fish and the food was hot, well cooked and very tasty. The owner Johno was attentive and friendly and a credit to the place. We will definitely return and will be telling our friends and family to go and try it too :-)

The best restaurant/pub in Peterborough. Always amazing food and quality service. All Covid restrictions adhered too, feels very safe and clean. I would 100% recommend going if you have not been you will not be disappointed.

Nothing was touch trouble, cooked vegetable lasange that was requested by myself. Food all freshly cooked and so very tasty. Made to feel so welcome, service first class in a restaurant that felt very covid safe. This restaurant is in the country with wonderful views and plenty of outdoor seating areas. It a long time since I enjoyed a meal when eating out but boy the golden pheasant delivered. We will be back, thank you.

We booked in advance and received a warm, friendly welcome, and a very professional approach to mitigating the COVID risks. The atmosphere is also friendly & relaxed and, despite a limited Menu during these extraordinary times, there's something for everyone's liking. Between us, we thoroughly enjoyed main-courses only, a delicious Seabass with Samphire, Crushed Potatoes, Prawns and light creamy sauce; and also a [Double] Burger with Chips & a delicious Relish. All their food is prepared fresh and it was absolutely worth the wait. Highly recommend a visit, or two, or more :O)

Went there with my wife, masked up to go into the bar to order, having gone past several groups that clearly weren't observing social distancing, to find a group of blokes close to the bar and very close to each other.Asked the girl behind the bar who wasn't masked (none of the floor staff were) for a dry, rose wine and got some medium sweet drink. She was, though, training so we let it pass.Went back for a second wine for my wife and asked the Manager, again, for a dry rose. What he gave me turned out to be something like sweet fruity pop. Either he has no regard for his customer's wishes or absolutely no clue about wine.Somewhere to avoid if you care about your palate or your life!

visited this pub and was very impressed with the service and how they welcomed us as a family. Kirsten and Stuart were very accomadating to all our needs and are a very out going couple. Great atmosphere and extremely friendly. Great one way system and hand sanitation were on point, made us all feel very safe. We will be visiting this venue very soon.

Not sure what the poor review about covid care and wine is referencing, certainly not this venue. The owners and staff are superb, caring and in tune with society. Everything is well thought out, completely professional and fun - a word some people have forgot. My wife will only drink wine here, because it is the best. The manager knows his wine and has often advised us on wine, also his pint is the freshest and coldest in the area. A trusting experience and good crack, exactly what the world needs right now - plus the outdoor seating area, kids park, football goals, bbq hut and superb and cavernous marquee are all just an added bonus. Well done G. P. team, keeping us safe and smiling.

We went today for afternoon tea for our wedding anniversary. Wow the food and service is outstanding. Everything on the tea is freshly made and all cooked on site ie: cheesestraws sauage roll which where warm and beautifully large cup cakes with cream and not forgetting the scones.Thank you for make our afternoon special

We arranged to meet friends for the first time since lockdown and needed to find somewhere halfway to eat at. It was well worth the 100 mile round trip for each couple to find a warm welcome, good service, excellent food and a safe environment. We all decided to make this our venue of choice when we next meet up.

It was by accident we came across this fabulous establishment. What a wonderful first visit. The food, service, atmosphere and genre of music was fabulous. Thank you for making us feel so welcome. We will be returning many many times in the future.

Had the most incredible meal and evening here. Couldn’t recommend anymore. I had the sea bass that came with prawns, potatoes and samphire - which was honestly INSANE. The prices were really reasonable for the quality of the food. The menu was very varied and had real special touches that nowhere else in the area offers. The service was also brilliant.

I'll keep it short. The service was excellent. The landlord was very helpful and friendly. The place was spotless. The food was superb. I had an amazing steak and ale pie and my boyfriend a veggie burger. Mine was really perfect and his burger was tastier than it looked to be honest. Unfortunately, it was raining while we were there so we couldn't sit outside but there's an incredible garden.

We held a birthday party in the marquee which was lovely. The little ones loved the field and the play equipment, and seeing the horses across the road. We stayed for a meal afterwards and the food was delicious, with a varied menu to suit everyone. We’ll definitely be back!

Visited here last night with the family, 4 of us. First time for myself and the wife, and I can't a bad word, whether, location, helpful staff, choice of beers and the food which was amazing. 3 of us had the seabass fillet and one has the meat pie. Johnny the o was very friendly, helpful and a great host. I can't praise the standard and quality of food enough. We were just passing through, but if I lived near by, this would be my new local. 5 out of 5 from us. Thank you.

Visited with my partner and my parents for dinner at the start of August. The staff are very friendly, the service spot on and the food was lovely. We had a lovely relaxing evening, we'll definitely come back.

We had lovely day/evening in the marquee the hole 29 of us still doing the social distances and enjoying seeing family and friends.the staff were great plus we just booked it until 5pm they didn't rush out so most of us stayed until 8pm having a meal again the food was great and staff still smiling after running about looking after us from 1pm.Would recommend them to everyone and will be back

Went for lunch yesterday with friends who were visiting us, having read a review by a friend. We were not disappointed Johnno is a fabulous host, made very welcome all COVID 19 solo wed but not overpowering! Booked a table after reading all the reviews on trip advisor. Was greeted by Johno who confirmed our booking and gave us the option of where to sit, took our drinks order and bought them out to us. We opted for the Sea Bass & Gammon as before ordering he'd let us know that they were out of burgers unless the butcher turned up soon.Glad I went for the fish, lovely bit of sea bass with some prawns to accompany. Smashed potatoes were great and the sauce with sandfire was lovely and creamy. My partner had the Gammon which was massive, real thick piece of meat about the size of what you'd expect a steak to be. Chips were lovely and they were happy to change the peas for beans.A lovely place which I wish we'd found sooner, we'll be back to try the burgers and steak!

Had a wonderful lunch here with some friends. The food was excellent,, service also excellent, all social distancing and Covid regulations in place without feeling intrusive. The whole experience was very enjoyable and would strongly recommend a visit. You will not be disappointed

My wife and I had a wonderful Sunday lunch sat outside in the mirror garden. The food was excellent, fresh homemade Sunday food, nothing like what you have elsewhere, you can tell its all freshly made, no premade food. We would defiantly repeat out visit without a doubt. We also have to comment on the friendly staff they have, very polite.

Visited for a drink with a friend while out on a hike around the north Peterborough area. We were served by Johnno, who was very friendly and immediately made us feel welcome. The pub has a lovely atmosphere and a nice beer garden. The food being served looked good, so we decided to stay for a late lunch and weren't disappointed. The steak and ale pie recommended by Johnno was absolutely delicious. The meat literally melted in your mouth. Good value for money. I would definitely come back if I was in the area.

Called in on Saturday, whilst cycling, and the staff were getting ready for a Spanish event. They were very friendly, stopped what they were doing and made us a drink. Went back later & there was a great atmosphere, with Spanish music playing and tapas dishes coming from the outside kitchen. This was an outside event and the tables were arranged safely, to socially distance. Safe arrangements were made for using the toilets and queuing at the bar. All in all, friendly staff, great food, and a safe environment. Thank you. I felt like I was on holiday!

We visited the Golden Pheasant on the first day of reopening for breakfast and we were very impressed with the post lockdown set up. One way system is in place, taking you through to the bar, everyone was seated at the appropriate distance and table service was provided along with a screen at the bar for if you need to go to it. The food as always was delicious and very filling!!I also attended a family baby shower yesterday whilst there was a Spanish day going on, it was very busy but all of the guidelines were being adhered to and I felt very at ease and safe and we had a great afternoon. Big thanks to Johno, kirstene and their team for doing a great job!

I had my baby shower at the pub yesterday and it was a fab day! Even under the circumstances I would just like to say thank you to Kirstene, Johno and the team for making myself and my family and friends feel so safe with all the safety guidelines they had in place, not one person had a bad thing to say about the one way system, they all thought it was brilliant! All the staff were friendly and Polite and always smilingEven though they were very busy with having a Spanish tapas day on outside, you wouldn’t have realised because they was all brilliant popping in to check on us and making sure we didn’t need anything else! The buffet which was supplied was delicious and everyone enjoyed it! We will definitely be back!

Called into The Golden Pheasant this afternoon on our bike ride - really comfortable experience. COVID guidelines in place, very relaxing atmosphere, Johno was buzzing with enthusiasm and looked after us extremely well...and it’s only Tuesday, will be back by the end of the week

Our first time to the Golden pheasant, Sunday lunch in the lovely mirrored part of the garden was a fantastic experience. The food was delicious and all home cooked. Look forward to returning and trying the normal menu

Firstly, the waitress who served us was very friendly and polite and explained to us how the service would be slightly different than your usual dining experience pre-pandemic. This did not at all effect the evening overall.Johno, the host was very attentive, chatty and not afraid to crack a few jokes which my partner and I really appreciated.The food itself was great and the amount you get for your money makes it all the more worth it (although we did fill ourselves up a bit!) The steak I had was cooked exactly how I asked and tasted great, the onion rings were also a highlight Oh.. and if you're going for a desert, the apple pie is amazing!

This has been the best visit so far to a pub since the restrictions have been lifted. A very warm welcome and the food outstanding. Highly recommended. Thank you very much

Fantastic to have The Golden Pheasant back open again. Even with their "limited menu" there is still a large choice and our meal was delicious. Welcome back; will be coming again very soon!n.b. the restaurant has organised itself well to conform with the covid-19 regulations and still has a good atmosphere.

Every two weeks on a Friday since the lockdown Johno and Kirstene have entertained us with a soul, motown, 2 tone and northern soul disco. They are great hosts when open and it would appear great hosts when closed too. Looking forward to getting back inside for an Aspalls asap..... keep up the good work folks.

A place we often stop in, for a drink or a meal. Its nice, reasonably priced, easy parking, nice gardens, and food in the bar a bonus. Nice restaurant, a good place for a special meal. Can get very busy at times.

Really glad we found this place. This is now our go to spot whenever we fancy a nice meal out.

We called in on the off chance for Sunday Dinner after a quick trip into Peterborough. We went in and ordered a couple of drinks and they asked if we had a table booked, which we hadn’t. After a quick check with the kitchen, we was seated at a table in the bar area next to the open fire. We both ordered roast dinners, one beef one lamb and was extremely pleased with our choice. Roast potatoes where lovely, homemade Yorkshire’s puddings, cauliflower cheese, lots of veg and extra gravy. Everything was piping hot and fresh. The meal was excellent, service was brilliant and they was really accommodating as we hadn’t booked, we won’t hesitate to return.

We came here for my mums birthday and we left with a belly full of beautiful food and a mind full of stories from the owner. Nothings too much for the staff that run this business to the point of making special accommodations for my ever so picky son. The food was beautiful and was all freshly made. Would recommend to anyone in the search of what an english home style pub should be like and we will definitely be back very soon. 11/10

Food was amazing, we had the Sirloin steak and burger, everything was cooked to perfection and the puddings were just as good. Service is very friendly and you are welcomed as soon as arrive, can't wait to eat there again.

What a disappointment, went to see a ska band, which was really good, but it took 45 minutes queuing to get a drink, and the bbq had nothing left on it by 4pm, has a large grass area, but everything was squashed in the pub car park.

Seven of us started my father's 83rd birthday in style with a beautiful English breakfast. Lovely food, plenty of it, great service and all in a relaxed and friendly environment. Highly recommended.

Myself and my family booked The Golden Pheasant yesterday for Christmas lunch. Excellent owner's and staff team. Wonderful atmosphere, crackling fire, cosy and comfortable....and wonderful food, absolutely first class. We had a brilliant time and we're warmly welcomed. A lovely experience. Thank you!

Just home after having the most delicious Christmas Dinner, the setting, service and food was second to none. Thank you Kirstene, Johno and all the staff for making it a great day.
