The Golden Mountain Chinese Restaurant in South Lakeland

Disappointed. Lacked flavour and peppers a bit soggy. Had sesame prawn toast, egg fried rice and king prawn with cashew nuts.

A fantastic little gem of a place, the host Ken was very friendly and attentive, booked at short notice and was well looked after. The food here was superb and the portions were very generous would definitely recommend.

Me and my partner ordered a meal from here this evening which we picked up, when we arrived the restaurant was absolutely packed , very busy . Well I’m not surprised because our takeaway was divine!! Everything was red hot , tasty and delicious! We will definitely have this again when we are in Windermere! The special chow mein, beef in black bean and salt and pepper king prawns were the best we have ever had!

Had a wonderful meal this evening,with excellent Vegan dishes,the salt and pepper tofu starter was amazing.Our waitress Zuzka was extremely efficient and very reassuring with regard to the Vegan dishes .The only downside was the restaurant was rather cold -will come next in summer or get a takeaway.

What a fabulous little restaurant. Friendly staff, great service and wonderful food. If ever we are back in Windermere, we will certainly pop in again.

Our second visit and still a s hood as it was years ago. It’s in great location but is small/few tables. Plenty menu choice and food was lovely. Excellent value for money. Staff are friendly and attentive. You take your own alcohol (no corkage charges either) although they sell soft drinks. Fab little place we will be back. Also near to fab little quirky bar The Crafty baa for pint befor, after or both.

Ordered a takeaway ‘Crispy Duck’ with Bean Sprouts & Soy Sauce. The so called ‘Crispy Duck’ was inedible due to it being completely dry and appeared like a leftover bit of meat that had been left around for days. I decided to bin it. Incidentally I have used its sister restaurant (Trungs) in Bolton le Sands and have always had beautifully cooked food. The staff in the Golden Mountain are friendly & efficient, the menu is fairly priced.

Lovely attentive staff and a pleasant relaxing atmosphere. Didn't reserve the table but were still sitted as soon as one became available which didn't take long. The food arrived sooner than expected, piping-hot, freshly cooked and ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS! Have never had chinese so pungent and tasty: chicken with ginger & spring onion was so gingery, it was incredible. Salt & pepper ribs had an immensely crispy and crunchy coating on them and were smothered in heaps of toasted crushed garlic - divine! Singapore vermicelli chow mein brilliant! The best discovery was the 'salt & pepper chips' - something no meal can do without! All finger-licking good!

Every time we visit Windermere, we visit this Chinese to sit in… and it never disappoints… and this time is no exception. Delicious food, loads of choice, a nice setting, friendly staff… and you can take your own alcohol without any corkage fee. Highly recommended, you might want to book in advance as the restaurant was full on a Tuesday night.

Couldn’t recommend this restaurant enough. We went as a family staying in bowness. The service was fantastic & the food was some of the best food we’ve tried in a while. Everything was so fresh. The prawn toast was the best we’ve ever tasted. It was such amazing value for money. Will definitely be returning next time we stay here!

Popped in for a take away order, told it would be 30 mins on a busy Saturday night so popped back and it was ready on time. Food was tasty, hot, not covered in salt and good quality. Some great Chinese food, highly recommended.

Great restaurant with fabulous food and very friendly service. I've (reluctantly) docked it 1 star because the dining area is so small that the noise of the kitchen is always present - it can't be described as intimate or relaxing. This is a minor quibble - the food is so good that it seizes your attention.

Staying in Windermere for the week and decided to get a takeaway from here one evening. The food was ready for the exact time they said on the phone. The food was super delicious and all of the family enjoyed it.

Very friendly staff but very drab surroundings. My husband ordered beef in a black bean sauce which was very nice I ordered sweet and sour chicken which was overcooked; the chicken was stringy and the batter was hard. Tasted a lot better from our local takeaway.I

Possibly best Chinese restaurant ever! Great food. Proper staff with good sense of humour. Tiny restaurant which packs a big punch.

Some of the best Chinese food I've had in England. It's a small restaurant and very popular, so best to book ahead.

Ordered a takeout from Golden Mountain for a family of four this evening, and everyone was very satisfied!The food was delicious, well cooked (particularly impressed by the selection and quantity of vegetables), prepared quickly and was great value. Would highly recommend, and we'll definitely be back next time we're in Windermere!

Used come here all the time when the old owners had it as was best chinese ever had, tired them once when new owners took over, was OK but no way as good as old owners. But today decided give them another try as was in area. Never again. Menu didn't have as many choices and my favourite, beef and mushrooms was no longer on the menu, so decided go with Beef Chow Mein. Was looking forward to it as was remembering how tasty the noodles used to be. But what arrived was biggest disappointed ever, don't know how they manage it but was the most bland, tasteless meal I've ever had. The meat was cheap and fatty. Wasn't even any soy sauce on table to be able drown it in that to give it some flavour. Notice even table next to us left most their food as well. My mum had chicken and Pineapple, and all she could taste was the Pineapple.Not only that, but had just a coke to drink which was flat, so that wasn't enjoyable to drink. Had 2 waitresses on plus someone taking orders by phone. No one asked if everything was alright, one waitresses didn't even talk and looked like she prefer to be somewhere else. At one point, one waitress and person taken phone orders had little arguement which wasn't professional. Will not be returning.

Veggie chow mein and spring rolls were amazing! Boyfriend eats meat, but we both had the same thing and both loved it. He said it was one of the best Chinese takeaways he’s had.

Entered without a booking but were still seated. Quite simply this was 0ossibly the best UK chinese meal I have ever eaten.

Visited here when on holiday in Lake district and was stopping in windermere. Lovely tasty food the barbecue spare ribs were so tasty coudnt fault any food we had . Its only a small sit down are and takeaway is avaliable. My advice if your in the are and you want a tasty chineese book a table.

Fab chinese! We had a takeaway from here whilst staying at limefitt park. We had visited a few years before and dined in the restaurant, and it was just as good as I remember albeit as takeaway! Quick service and truly yummy

On the first night of a trip away it was quite hard to find somewhere to eat, given it was a Sunday. These guys were more than happy though to accommodate our needs and have some food ready for us to pick up once we'd explored the town a little. We're so glad we came about this gem though as there was absolutely no grease in the end product and the taste was insane! Planning on picking up some food for the drive home in a couple days as we're absolutely blown away. Would come back 10/10 times!

Decided to try this place on a weekend visit to the lakes and so glad we did. The food is excellent and the staff were lovely. If you’re in the area and looking for a Chinese either to sit in or for a takeaway, give this one a go.

By far the very best Chinese I’ve ever eaten. I would definitely return here in the future. If we were staying longer I would definitely have returned again during this holiday. It was exceptionally busy but the owner was so professional in ensuring the courses were brought out in a timely manner and piping hot. Beautiful flavours polite service and excellent value for money. Would highly recommend this restaurant but you will definitely need to call and book and it’s extremely popular.

we had a meal here a couple of years ago , so we decided to give this place a go again , and glad we did , we had duck pancakes and a couple of main meals , a chicken curry and chicken in peking sauce with rice and a plain chow mein , it was so good . service fine and will gladly return

We were seated quickly and the waiter was a lovely man. He was on his own so he was busy but we never had to wait long for food or drinks. All food was hot and tasty highly recommended this place!

When here recently with friends All food was so good went in early no one in within 10 minutes the place was full all seating taken and people queuing for their takeaways so popular must mean something. We absolutely loved all the food we choose the char sue was yummy. Will go again when in area

Tried to have a meal here the other night, when we went in there were two couples eating at tables and a couple waiting for take away food, we waited a couple of minutes and eventually someone came out with a phone attached to his ear taking orders, to cut a long story short two couples came in to pick up food, three more phone orders were taken and the people who were already sat down were still waiting for drinks then we walked out.... needs more staff or just have a takeaway instead of a restaurant.

My wife and I dined here and had a great meal.The salt and pepper squid was particularly lovely and flavoursome as was the aromatic crispy duck.My king prawns with ginger and spring onions were deveined rounded ones - delicious and not the sometimes 'slimy' type you get in other restaurants.The front of house/serving chap was first class, efficient and had a good sense of humour to match ours. He and another chap from the kitchen ran the show and delivered all the food piping hot to all the customers. The restaurant was full at 8pm.Overall a great experience - we chose well in picking this Chinese restaurant.

Just come back from our stay in Windermere and ate here on the Sunday night.The food was delicious and really well presented, I just wish I took some pictures as it really looked and tasted delicious.The menu has a lot to choose from, and they even made something to order that wasn’t necessarily on the menu… The guy was funny too, had a bit of a laugh with him… Delicious meal, will visit again

Freshly cooked food with efficient service. Very reasonable prices. Busy even on a wet Sunday evening but we were quickly seated. Vegetables and tofu in a satay sauce and king prawns with ginger and spring onions with egg fried rice. Good sized portions and large menu.

We visited as a family with two children under 6, restaurant is small and I'd advise booking to avoid disappointment.Manger / Owner was very friendly and made us all feel welcome throughout. Food was very good and reasonably priced, service was good and toilets were clean. Mixed starter was awesome and I'd highly recommend it! Thanks for a nice evening meal.

This takeaway, which also does sit-in, was at top of our road and it was so good that we had a takeaway couple of times during our week’s holiday. We had the set menu for 2 which was absolutely delicious, highly recommend.

Ordered a takeaway for 5 people. We ordered our food and it was ready for us when we returned. The gentleman who served us was very friendly and efficient as the restaurant looked busy, he answered our queries and offered to make changes for us. Our food was hot and delicious especially the special fried rice which was really fresh and tasty. Thoroughly enjoyed meal.

We were really pleased with our takeaway from the Golden Mountain. Staff were friendly and said it would be ready in 30min and they were spot on. We had plenty of food and the duck in particular was fantastic!

Visited this restaurant when we stayed in Windermere and wanted a meal without chips! So glad we went there. The food was delicious and reasonably priced. We had duck pancakes, sweet & sour chicken, crispy chilli beef, vermicelli (their version of Singapore noodles) and egg fried rice. All we’re extremely tasty, best egg tried rice and S&S chicken I’ve had in a while. We will return next time we’re in the area. Thank you to all the staff.

We arrived here late and with no booking. They managed to give us a really nice table. The service, food and price was all really great. We are definitely eating at least one meal here, the next time we visit.

We called in late evening not having booked. Everywhere else full (Sunday night) to a warm welcome. Table found. Best Chinese meal we have had in a long time. Well worth a visit.

I have been well over charged by the manager two times now. First time I let it pass, this time no. Especially when the order was completely wrong and the salt and pepper prawns were just battered prawn no taste to it at all. I’m local and won’t be ordering from here again. Magic wok all the way. Disgusting behaviour.

No booking or queuing. Walk in and seated straight away. Fastest service I’ve ever known. Lovely and cool on a baking hot evening. Staff very pleasant. Food and drinks all ok. Prices good. Not the best I’ve had but certainly not the worst. Did the job. Would go back and would recommend if you want hassle free in very busy Bowness where service can understandably be a bit hectic due to volume of people and staff shortage because of COVID.

Really nice food here,especially the King prawn curry,chilli beef and the salt and pepper chips,rice was tasty to,this place is a hidden gem but very popular and now we know why,good food,great service and perfect location,reccommended if you are in Windermere.

Absolutely horrific ! We ordered from here to take away and the gentleman behind the counter was drinking and totally got our order wrong both in quantity and in quality ! When my husband asked him where our prawn crackers were he handed them over after saying ‘we normally charge £3 for these ‘ which is fair enough unless you have already paid ! We ordered beef satay and crispy roast duck .. the beef was in a sweet and sour sauce and the duck was dull and cooked to within a inch of dust , the whole experience has been disgusting! We love the lakes and come here a lot and after the last 18 months we just wanted to relax .. really really upset by the whole service

Couldn’t fault it, turned up last minute and had our meal within the half hour, best Chinese I’ve ever had and couldn’t fault the staff, went above and beyond in the name of service, customer comes first and they know it

Back here after being away for 8 years. We were told by locals that the restaurant had recently changed management but it didnt put us off. It's a cheap and cheerful place and the food tastes great. The set menu didnt give as much choice this time round. It would have been nice to have been able to choose the main courses. We ended up ordering from the menu and it was still great value for money. We would come back

Visited here today. Food was lovely, quick service. Gentleman server/owner was very pleasant. However, female waitress has no customer service skills nor any interest in customers! Absolutely No communication with customers. Keyed in my bill on swipe machine without showing me my actual tab , outrageous behaviour. Will not be back , which is a shame as I have been a customer since 2010!! New owner needs to sort this. Previous owner had such lovely attentive staff not what I experienced today! Couldn’t be bothered attitude and certainly didn’t want to be there comes to mind!

We ate here this evening and were impressed with the food. I ordered a chicken chow mein and sweet and sour sauce. We found that the gentleman who greeted us was pleasant, however, the female waitress did not say much. Overall, booking was easy, service was average and the food was good. I would eat here again.

Been here many times over the years and the food is always good. This time the meal was spoiled by the two servers that honestly did not want to be there. We saw the same attitude with other tables as well. My advice would be to just get a take away from them.

Came 12 months ago and loved it. So returned.Had the hot and soups for starters that we're delicious. Then a veg and a mixed curry, both were delicious. Got the salt and pepper chips and chow mein (noodles) side. Loved the chips.Overall cracking. Bit short staffed but the owner and his assistant did great. Definitely Come back .

Well we decided on a Chinese and we were in bowness but none of them jumped out at me, decided on reading reviews on this gem just up the road, had a takeout and gentleman who took our order was lovely and very helpful, ready for us as stated and food was absolutely delicious, will only be using here when in the Lakes again, regards Darren&nikki

Booked late afternoon for 7pm. They managed to fit us in . Meal was excellent and plentiful. Service great. Shame the Ladies loo was out of commission so not ideal them using the Gents, to be fair, we were warned when booking. Shame two bookings of 2 and 4 , failed to turn up - bad on you public. Would certainly visit again if up here from Sussex.

Love this Chinese! Always the nicest food to a high quality, great service too, staff are so friendly and accommodating to any needs. I would recommend the crispy duck, it’s delicious.

Staff are hopeless, went to collect a takeaway and paid. Sat waiting patiently for 10 minutes and no food arrives then the manager comes over and lone behold my takeaway had been behind the bar all along. Second time that a similar incident like this has occured, food is usually very nice but won't be returning. The managers excuse of the waitress is new doesn't wash as it was the same waitress as last time (1 year ago!).

Friendly staff. They were very busy and stayed cheerful and helpful. If we had been staying in Windermere we would have come back again. The food was really yummy.

I’ve been coming to this restaurant/takeaway since I moved to the lakes about 4 years ago. By far my favourite out of all of them! Never once has it been a bad experience or food. Would definitely recommend.

Tried phoning between 17:00-17:20, the line was busy which is understandable but when it did eventually ring no one answered, absolutely shocking! Ended up going elsewhere, no wonder people prefer the magic wok.. shame they’re closed!

Good food but the service and staff are woeful... ordered food at 5.00pm for 6.30pm pick up. Waited 30 mins! Was told food gets cooked when client comes to pay! Manager preferred to cancel but we waited whilst he ran around and abused his badly trained staff. Hygiene not high on the list of priorities. Bizarrely the food was quite good but not worth the wait... Best to not eat Chinese food on a Tuesday in Windermere. Better alternative down the road.... sadly it’s not open on a Tuesday!

Wow, wow and wow! This restaurant is exquisite, we had a take away and there food was out of this world, we started with crispy duck and pancakes and the duck was so flavourful, we then had chicken curry and my goodness it was exceptional. Coming from York is a long way to go fr a takeaway, but I'm already dreaming of when I can possibly return to windermere just so I can have this delicious food again.We visited on the 14th December 2020 and the man that served us was so lovely, give him a pay rise!

I live in Bowness and have always got my Chinese there. During shutdown tried the Golden Mountain and will never go to Bowness ones again! We had crispy duck pancakes, special fried rice, lemon chicken and beef in black bean. All absolutely delicious. Maybe slightly more expensive than some others there around, but definitely worth the extra! Very quick service, and all freshly cooked.

Really nice. Working away and decided to grab a take out as the restaurant is closed due to covid. The food was so fresh and tasty. Best food I've had in a long time. On collection I also noticed how lovely the restaurant itself was. Would love to pay them a visit if they are open.

Seen bad reviews and put them down to bad days, grumpy folk, rivals or folk with bad taste buds. Good service. Delivered food within 10 minutes of ordering just like Chinese food should take. Two main meals were large and me and wife shared a rice and treated selves to yummy salt n pepper chips which came with finely sliced onions, peppers mixed in. Group of 4 near us which included a chap on holiday from Asia took home doggie bag so guess he thought food was good.Also if u want a great breakfast go to Woodlands Guest House in Windermere. As much orange juice tea coffee milk and toast u want to go with your cereal and full English 2 bacon, sausage beans fried or scrambled egg hash brown mushrooms blackpudding also pancakes topped with fruit and sweet sauces cream is on the menu

We made a booking at golden Mountain, arrived at allotted time, and were shown to our table, don't know about any track and trace, as wasn't asked for any info. Chose the set meal b. At £17pp the spice soup was absolutely delicious, followed by duck wraps, also delicious. The mains were peppered beef great taste, and chicken szewan which wasn't as spicy heat wise, but a little bland. No prawn crackers, but arrived at the end of the meal. The staff are friendly and polite, good service, good food.

This is the second bad experience we have had with this Chinese, each time we ordered for a special occasion and there has been multiple issues. We are local but we won't be ordering from here again, the last time we ordered there was so many mistakes we were provided with a 50% discount of our next order. (We normally order from the Magic Wok but they were closed )Each time there has been items missing from the order, meaning we had to go back to the Chinese to collect the missing items or give back the wrong items we had been given. Whilst trying to keep the rest of the food warm so we could sit down together and have our celebratory dinner. The previous owners of this restaurant did amazing food but its now very poor. Bland and not fresh... The satay was like watered down curry sauce, with no spice or chillies (it was classed as spicy on the menu. The chow Mein was like dishwater with noodles in with no taste at all. The curry paste that you can buy and add water from the super market is so much tastier than the one from here. Out of 6 of us we didn't have any good comments on this takeaway, so will be avoiding in the future.

My husband and I dined at Golden Mountain during our stay in Windermere. Having read reviews beforehand we called up to book which we are glad we did as some walk ins whilst we were there had to be turned away as the restaurant was full. We decided to choose one of the banquets which was absolutely delicious - some of the best Chinese food we have had for some time. The restaurant also kindly accommodated my request to swap the chicken sweetcorn soup to hot and sour - both of which were lovely. The drinks were also very reasonably priced. Service also went above and beyond - it started raining whilst we were at the restaurant and having not bought an umbrella with me they kindly dug out an old one a customer had left and let me take it which was really thoughtful. Will definitely be returning next time we are in the area.

Comida deliciosa y el personal es extremadamente amable y tiene un gran sentido del humor.Tuvimos una comida para llevar desde aquí la primera noche de las vacaciones y sentimos que el espaciado de las mesas en el restaurante y las precauciones de covid que habían tomado fueron excelentes. Desafortunadamente, no pudimos hacer una visita de regreso para comer, pero definitivamente los recomendaríamos a otros.

Esta es la segunda vez que hemos estado aquí cuando visitamos los lagos, ya que lo disfrutamos la primera vez en la calle, así que sabíamos que la comida era buena. Si fuera posible, la comida es mejor que la primera vez. Servicio rápido y educado por parte de los camareros. Las bebidas llegaron rápidamente y no esperamos mucho por la comida. La comida estaba tan fresca y caliente. Entre nosotros comimos rollitos de primavera y costillas de sal y pimienta para empezar. Luego comí pato en salsa plomada con arroz frito y mi otra mitad comí el pato chow mein. También compartimos unos chips de sal y pimienta. Todo estaba delicioso y el condimento de sal y pimienta era fuerte, que es como nos gusta. Definitivamente regresaría aquí al menos una vez durante cada visita futura a los lagos y se lo recomendaría a cualquiera. El hecho de que el restaurante estuviera lleno para todas las sesiones y el teléfono para llevar estaba lleno de pedidos lo dice todo en mi opinión. También es excelente para adherirse a las pautas de Covid.

We were turned away from three restaurants in Windermere due to them all being fully booked! We ended up here. What a nice surprise. Fabulous food, and great service.

The place is not much to look at but oh my god the food and service are fantastic. I would highly recommend eating here. The girl who works here is amazing and added to our experience and her singing is something to hear.

We booked To eat here when we passed in the afternoon and despite two separate people telling us “it’s not good” after booking we still went, expecting the worse! However, we were pleasantly surprised. We ordered the banquet for 2 and it was all really nice, the staff were maybe a little inexperienced but learning and really polite and helpful. I don’t think we have anything to complain about and would go again.

We arrived not long after they opened, without having booked, and were lucky to get the last table. The staff were clearly super busy (we heard numerous people being turned away as they had so many bookings) but our order was taken quickly and the food arrived promptly. The staff were all very pleasant and friendly.Both of us very much enjoyed our meal.Would definitely go back, but would advise booking as they are obviously very popular (and rightly so!).

I had a takeaway from the Golden Mountain whilst staying in a nearby holiday cottage in Windermere. We were a large group of 12. Ordering over the telephone was easy and collection was within one hour. The food was hot, plentiful and tasty. All my party really enjoyed the takeaway. Price were reasonable. I opted for the Lemon Chicken which was delicious. Recommended.

We called in for a takeaway on sunday night we ordered special chow mein and salt and pepper spare ribs the restaurant was empty so were served quickly and when we opened the chow mein was very nice but when i bit into the spare ribs they were raw in the middle still cold and bloody in middle we were returning home the next day so couldnt complain so beware and check your food is cooked if you eat here.

Me and my girlfriend enjoy going for a chinese when we are at home so will usually visit one while we're away, however this was not great at all.Upon walking into the restaurant we were welcomed warmly and the restaurant itself is quite the average standard of both decor and atmosphere for a chinese restaurant. The service throughout was good but hectic, almost as though there wasn't enough staff on. Onto the food, we selected the set menu A i think and changed a few bits around. The starters we had;chicken satay, prawn crackers and duck, were alright. Onto the mains which were not great at all. The crispy shredded beef had the texture of pastry and was not nice at all. The beef in black bean was bland, chewy and unenjoyable and lastly the chow mein was also quite tasteless and greasy. If it was for the courteous waiters working i would of rated this restaurant below average. The food i tasted that evening wouldn't have surpassed a single star.

Visited this restaurant on 5th January after previous attempts to visit failed due to the time of the year we visited as the previous owners had there annually holidays, after various recommendations from different people I was pleased we managed to get a table on the evening of my birthday, upon arrival me and my wife were in shock as we were the only people in restaurant and to be honest with you the setting didn’t take our breath away and we were in 2 minds to walk back out, however we were escorted to a seat of our choice (there was plenty to choose from)!! We ordered a bottle of Shiraz and a banquet for 2, we were soon given prawn crackers and dip by a helpful lady waiter , after that we had a selection of dishes such as won tons seaweed chicken etc etc , following that we had crispy duck in pancakes, we were highly satisfied with the amount and quality of all the food , the remaining dishes we had to get boxed up as we could not manage anymore at the time and bearing in mind we can both pouch!!!the remainder of the fish we took back we had a bit of each layer and it was fab, pork , steak, 2 rice with prawns, I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS RESTAURANT,but don’t be put off by first impressions judge it for the quality and quantity of food 10/10

Had the nicest Chinese meal here during our stay. Food arrived quickly, the staff were very very friendly and overall the meal was just delicious and well priced. We had the battered tofu in sweet and sour sauce with all the trimmings and loved every second.

The food was phenomenal and one of the few places that will serve after 9pm and make you feel welcome. We will be coming here again. The mixed starter was as great. The main was great and the service was amazing.

My son turned 16 and it was his choice on dinner options and he chose Chinese takeaway. My husband and I didn’t have high expectations but reviews looked ok so we chose a couple of sweet and sour options, a beef dish and a special chow mein. All four dishes were of a very poor standard. The chow mein was so packed full of low quality meat that we were digging around for a noodle or two. My son could only stomach a few of the prawns in his sweet and sour dish as they were poor in texture and tasteless. I won’t go on.. you get the picture. We won’t be returning :-(

looking around for a nice sit down chineses meal , we actually thought this was not open the lighting outside was so poor, we still walked to check it out , glad we did it was open , great food , duck pancakes were delicous , then had 2 mains with 2 side orders , food was good and plentiful . would def go here when in windermere again

We were told that the takeaways in Windermere were not that great until a barman said this one had new owners so thought we would give it a try, a good job we did as the ribs were amazing, the Cantonese spring roll so tasty and the mixed curry was yummy. To top it all very reasonable prices.
