The Golden Fox in East Dorset

I have to say I was expecting great things, given all the good reviews, sadly it was not the case. Sunday lunch was well cooked, but nothing special, apart from the seafood Platter which was outstanding. Fairly mediocre roast beef lunch, small portions of veg and beef which was thinly cut from a small joint. Sweets were fine. £3.50 for a lime and soda was outrageous and they initially wanted to charge extra for more veg, given the fact they had provided so little originally, but agreed to remove from bill. Service was very attentive but lacked finesse. Felt it was overpriced for what we got. Will not be returning sorry.

This was a birthday occasion and this was a wonderful evening. From the moment we arrived we were made to feel special. The food was outstanding and service excellent. I have hesitation in recommending this restaurant.

Greeted as soon as we walked in the door by Kaspars the owner. This pub has exceptional service, food and decor. We were served by Jed who was very polite and knowledgable and very attentive. We ordered the chicken in a stilton and bacon cream sauce with chips and salad and lamb shank on bed of mash potatoes with vegetables. Both meals were absolutely delicious and we savoured every mouthful. We then ordered sticky Toffee pudding with cream and icecream and chocolate pudding with chocolate icecream. The desserts were very beautifully plated. The evening was very memorable and I would say it was one of the best pub meals that I have every had. Can't wait to return. Kaspars and his staff really are fantastic.

What can we say…. Amazing service, spotlessly clean, fantastic food,difficult to find any fault. The food was absolutely lovely… only went for one course and did the works stuffed. Com Cannot wait to go again, you do t find many hostilarys which such amazing, prompt and informative staff,

We phoned up just 15 minutes before to book a table for two for afternoon lunch and they were very good to accommodate us as a last minute booking because when we arrived they had three very large bookings, one being a birthday celebration. Despite this, service was very quick, we both had the roast beef and there was plenty of it with lovely fresh vegetables, a really nice meal. We’ve been here a few times and the staff are lovely and very attentive, they really look after you and make sure you’re happy with everything. Thank you for a lovely lunch.

We had Sunday lunch. The menu was great, difficult to choose. The food was excellent and the service friendly and efficient. Definitely worth a visit.

No vegan option available!!, and the 2 vegetarian options have been on the menu for years. I asked if they could do roasted vegetables and chips from other meals which they did, and the food I had was tasty enough, but there was no offer for the chef to prepare me something. When I checked Trip advisor it said vegan and vegetarian choice available, this is definitely not the case. The owner told me they are not that kind of establishment. For fish and meat eaters the menu is fine, but hasn't changed in years.

Been coming here now for several months and this place is consistently outstanding. Sunday lunch last week with friends and I was awkward asking for the lamb shank but with all the trimmings of the beef. No problem at all I was even asked if I wanted the beef gravy or the red wine jus. The service in this place is second to none, nothing is too much trouble, friendly without being over bearing. We all had soup to start (to die for have it every time) and a main and a pudding (OMG sticky toffee pudding like I have never had before) with drinks, both men had 2 pints each and came to £152. Such great value, lovely home cooked food with a touch of something extra. The owners always accommodating and their young waiting staff are exemplarily and a real credit. We highly recommend to everyone. You cannot go wrong here. Love the place.

Second time here and just wonderful. Prices the same as a good pub, but so much better. Presentation and food outstanding, taste and quality so good. They cook the food themselves, and probably the best we have had, except from two michelin star place we have been to.

We visited the Golden Fox for dinner on the recommendation of our Airbnb host and on the basis of Trip Advisor Reviews. A great welcome from a knowledgeable and charming host who understands the business, well trained staff, a good menu selection and excellent food courtesy of a "proper" chef! 5 Stars all the way ..... so we returned 2 nights' later and it was brilliant again!

We had a most enjoyable experience. Food was great. Staff were exceptional. Drinks were served quickly. Water was poured for us as soon as we wanted it. Staff couldn't do more. Plenty of choice and specials were good too. Thank you so much.

Family of four (2 adults and 2 little ones) visited for an early dinner on Saturday night. There appeared to be a quite a few regular locals in, which is only a good sign in my opinion. Friendly service and the gentleman behind the bar remembered my name when he said goodbye. Food was very nice, tasty and reasonably priced. They did not have a children’s menu but were very accommodating by offering smaller portions from the main menu. Would definitely visit again if we were in the area

Dinner for 4 absolutely divine as usual pork fillets amazing chicken beautiful flavour lamb shank special menu was very special all beautifully cooked food and portions great value .We were full up but could not resist sticky toffee pudding always great pavlova mouth watering and portions of ice cream just finished nicely.I would recommend to anyone looking for wonderful food and great service with a smile this is the place to visit .Thank you for a lovely evening with our best wishes for the future. Yesterday, two of us went to The Golden Fox for lunch. We always get such a lovely welcome. The menu is varied, not over large, and the specials board adds extra sparkle. The food is excellent. The chef is talented; everything is beautifully cooked and the sauces are delicious. The puddings are yummy; special mention must be made of the sticky toffee pudding; the best that we have ever tasted. However, there is a varied selection and the chocolate mousse from the specials board was light and lovely. The service is very professional and friendly. If you live in the Wimborne/Blandford/Poole area or are just passing through it's well worth a visit.
