First time of visiting The Goat Inn last night and it certainly won't be long before I visit again. I went there with a friend as part of my birthday celebrations and had such a wonderful time. Tom the Manager was ideal for the job, really welcoming, obliging and super nice. It was just how I like a pub, traditional cosy and with elegant little touches such as the rustic beams to add to the atmosphere. My friend and I really enjoyed our drinks which were of fine quality and would have ordered food had any been available at that time. In a kind gesture Tom brought out some sandwiches for us which was extremely appreciated as I had not eaten and the drinks had started to make me feel hungry. There was also a group of musicians who were very talented entertaining everyone the entire evening and this was the complete icing on the cake. All in all it was a smashing place to visit if you enjoy traditional pubs and would highly recommend. The locals were the most welcoming lot I have ever experienced when being a stranger in town and my intention is to return to see them all soon and to try the menu next time.

We had a cracking lunch. My beef lasagne was great as was my friend's veg lasagne. The boys' roasts were very good. The portion sizes were good and the was cauliflower cheese to go with the meal. The manager, Tom, is so helpful and welcoming. We love this pub!

Not sure that a slightly warmed up dish of beef stew (said steak & kidney) with a ridiculously fragile separate loose puffed pastry 'hat' would be acceptable under the trade description act as 'Home Made Steak and Kidney Pie'. The puffed pastry was inedible and blew away in the wind. NOT VERY IMPRESSED.

This is a proper traditional pub with beams and an open gas fire. Despite the fire the section of pub we sat in was seriously cold, which might explain why most people were sitting in the top section but there was no spare tables. We called in for a light lunch so I picked a sausage baguette, which consisted of a naked sausage what was crying out for some fried onions. The plate also contained a few salad items. I know times are tough for pubs but a handful of chips would have been nice, which is what I normally get when ordering the same lunch at other local pubs.

I STRONGLY RECOMMEND TO AVOID THIS PLACE! I ordered the salad and received ham, eggs and chips! It wasn’t even busy just another two ladies were having their lunch. When my salad finally arrived it was absolutely awful. No dressing, no seasoning. It looked like they just opened a package of prawns from the local supermarket and dumped them on top of 3 salad leaves with few veggies and microwaved potatoes on the side! Put a complain about it but instead of apologies they accused me for ordering the wrong meal although, the girl who took the order and served food, admitted she messed up the order before she even placed the food on the table! So the girl admitted to us she messed it up but the owner accused me for ordering the wrong meal! Absolutely rude and disgusting customer service and food isn’t much better!

Have honestly got to say that this was the best fish and chips I have ever had!! Batter was so crispy, chips were lovely and the selection of sauces given to us was brilliant!! I know The Goat normally did fish and chips on a Thursday to eat in but I have never ordered it. Tonight was just me and my other half but will definitely be getting it for me and the kids next week. £8.95 each for all we got was amazing. I couldn’t eat it all!!

First visit; lunchtime with a coleague. Quite a comfortable feeling pub although we sat in an area tha when the door opened a cold blast whistled by, but it was a cold and windy day. We both had ham, egg and chips. the quantity and quality and price were all good. The only draw back was that there was an inordinaely long wait between ordering and the food and it arriving arriving. Perhaps the hens were not laying quickly wnough!

I popped in to have lunch the other week and was pleasently surprised. It was lunch time and wanted just a light snack... i was overwelmed by the large portions (especially the bowl of chips) but too good to leave. so left the pub very full and very satisfied. the sandwich was awsome!!

We stopped off at this pub by accident on 23rd December 2018 looking for a Sunday lunch. When we got there we were told that most of the dinners were booked but a couple of lamb roasts were free. My partner chose the roast and I went for something else on the menu. The food and service was lovely. However eating our dinner next to a group of people standing in the bar effing and jeffing and farting does not for a relaxing Sunday roast make. It’s a shame because it could have been so nice.

This is a cosy, welcoming pub with a tasty pub menu. Go on Thursday for their fish and chips. There might be some left on Friday if you are lucky! The fish is so fresh and perfectly cooked. Codicote is only a short drive from Shaw's Corner (National Trust) so you could combine a visit with lunch here.

I was with a party of church bell ringers who had pre-booked lunch at The Goat and we were all impressed with the building, the facilities, The staff and the food! First impression from outside was of an excellently maintained characterful building with attractive decor and clean, tidy street side seating area. I was impressed seeing the undercover smokers are when I entered the car par, then i discovered the rear outdoor seating and play area at the back of the car park : A good range of seating options. On entering the inn I was greeted by the friendly landlady behind the bar which had a good range of beers, lagers, wines , spirits and soft drinks. I spotted table in the raised are which had been set for dining and guessed that his was where my part would be seated. The Landlady confirmed this to me. When the party arrived all the pre-ordered food was brought out to the correct person. Service was efficient, friendly and cheerful. I was particularly impressed with my "Local ham , egg and chips" which was more appropriate to call Gammon, Eggs and Chips. Some members of my party told me they would have had this if they had realized that the ham was in fact grilled Gammon; they had expected ham to be cold! Portions were substantial , as much as most people could manage, and the food was well cooked and tasty .

The trend at most pubs I seem to visit these days seems to be to give their vegetables a fancy descriptive name about where they came from and how they were cooked and then slap a fiver on the price of the meal for the privilege. Well The Goat calls a pea a pea and a carrot a carrot.

Tiene una buena selección de cervezas y un simpático encargado. Recomiendo encarecidamente volveré.

Small but welcoming this is clearly a place loved by locals who seem to flock to it. Should not put you off though and a burning fire (it's gas but looks really good) was just the ticket on a wet winter day. Ordinary in the context of British pubs today on the food front - but ordinary has risen from awful a few years ago to actually quite acceptable today.

On the face of it a typical village pub in a beautiful old half timbered building. It has all the usual things you would expect to find - good pub grub and a good selection of beers and drinks. But it is much more than that. Brenda and Graham who have been running the pub for many years have made it a true community centre and reach out to support every aspect of village life. The annual village day, the new sports and community centre, village organisations and the local community choir are all supported by the Goat and most recently the annual music festival "Goatfest" has once again raised thousands of pounds for the local hospice and provided the village with an event to get behind and experience being part of a village community. If you've heard of goatfest you'll know what I mean. If you haven't put next August Bank holiday weekend in your diary. You won't regret it!!

Visited The Goat Inn 3 days in a row. The first on a Thursday night when the open mic night was in full swing. The beer was AMAZING, the staff were fantastic, welcoming and friendly and the live music was top class. The next day we ended up going back around midday before being dragged out of the place by our girlfriends/wives/partners. The food smelled amazing but the pork scratchings were so good that we were so full of pig snacks and beer that we didn't need any. Shame really. The next morning, morning of the wedding, the very kind staff allowed us in as they were setting up so we could have a few more bravery beers before the real drama began. Thank you so much guys you were ALL fantastic. WILL be back
