The Ginger Pig in Brighton and Hove

En plus, en cas de doute, le patron n'hésite pas à vous faire goûter une bière pour orienter votre choix. Un petit cocktail nous a été offert au cours de notre halte pour nous le faire apprécier tout simplement, cela le plus gratuitement du monde. Bel endroit professionnel à recommander sans aucun doute.

We had a great little family lunch here. The staff couldn't do enough to accommodate us and our 14 month old daughter, and the food was delicious and beautifully presented. We had a great time!

Horribly expensive, cheapest wine £29 (over £32 with service) for an inexpensive wine that costs around £8 in a supermarket! The Ginger group was a favourite group of restaurants we used to enjoy before Covid, first time back since, but the prices for both food and wine mean that we won't be going back. Whilst our waitress "Aga" was pleasant enough, being Polish I suspect that they are on minimum wage, possibly!

This is not a cheap place to eat out and there is always that sense of trepidation before going somewhere new that you might be shelling out on a real pig in a poke. You want to have a memorable celebration with the family and know from experience that this could go one of two ways…. The Ginger Pig in Hove is worth every penny that you spend on a meal there. Try as I might I cannot fault it. The food was excellent. Beautifully cooked and served, the menu had something to suit everyone and we all felt we had eaten like princes. But, in particular, the service was impeccable. Nothing was missed, forgotten or wrong. Our main server was absolutely on the ball throughout the evening, as were all the staff we encountered. I think the icing on the cake (literally) was when she brought out a birthday plate and candle at the end of the meal having by chance twigged it was someone’s birthday. So very special and so very welcome. Thank you.

Stayed in the 2 bed mews house which was fantastic! Great to relax in and have extra space when staying for more than a night or so. Totally geared up for self catering and ideal for a family or 2 couples. Outdoor seating area which opens from the living area. 2 well equipped bathrooms, 2 great bedrooms and air conditioning in them. Nice to just go next door for drinks and food and the staff are really helpful and lovely. Stayed here many times but the Mews House can’t be beaten and will be back.

Joint birthday meal and thought Ginger Pig given the reviews. Decided on a Sunday roast. Service was attentive and lots of table water regularly topped up. Starters were tremendous as were the drinks. Main course for the vegetarians appeared to hit the spot. However, the two pork belly roasts defied what was advertised. A few thin slices of dry, tasteless pork that was NOT pork belly. Felt absolutely cheated but was advised by the party to keep my peace. The roast potatoes were merely reheated (I will give you a run for your money with mine) so, overall not what some of us expected. There are better (and cheaper options) for a Sunday roast.

When we arrived (slightly early), we asked if we could have a drink in the bar before going to our table. Yes they said. This I feel is normal to do? To then be told by the barmen that you can not stand in the bar as they don't have a licence and will need to go to the table as they are full. My question to them would be perhaps get a license so hour restaurant guests can start the eveninv with a drink? We were then escorted to our table to which I raised the point that it's poor not being able to have a pre dinner drink.... the gentleman escorting shrugged it off. No explanation, he didn't care nor did he have time too as he didn't even ask what drinks we would like once at the table. We ordered our food, whilst the pigs head starter and steak were lovely. The chips looked like they were straight out of the freezer bag. The bill came and it was wrong, plus a 12.5% service charge added. The bill being wrong l I felt was due to lack of staff running around. Overall really poor experience for what you pay. Certainly wouldn't go back.

During a short stay in one of the Ginger Pig's lovely, quirky rooms (reviewed separately) my wife and I ended up having more meals on consecutive days in the same restaurant than we have ever done. The superb quality of the first night's dinner persuaded us to book lunch to treat a friend the following day. On the next day, our last, we could not think of anywhere better for dinner. Everything we ordered was delicious with special mention to the cannon of lamb, which all three of us tried on different occasions. Plus three excellent breakfasts - 6 meals in 3 days, a record! The staff are very pleasant and efficient, and particularly helpful with our friend who needs a wheelchair. We just loved the Ginger Pig, and intend to stay there again when we are next in Brighton/Hove.

We held our anniversary lunch for 20 people in the private dining room, which is a great space with a lovely outside patio. Alex and her staff were extremely helpful in planning the occasion. The service was first class, but unobtrusive; the waitress should be commended. The food was excellent. We would highly recommend this for a similar occasion. Excellent value for money.
