The Garden Room in Rochford

We went for breakfast and really enjoyed both the food and the stunning views across the fields to the Dengie. Staff were prompt and friendly and were easily able to adapt the vegetarian breakfast to make it vegan. The veggie/vegan sausages are lovely as are the huge hash brown ‘fingers’. We also had mushrooms, beans and toast, which were all tasty, good quality and piping hot. The waitress went and checked all items in the cooked breakfast when we said we were vegan and ensured that nothing was cooked in butter. They also provided vegan spread for the toast without us asking. All in all it was a refreshing change to places which don’t really understand the concept and you have to think through every ingredient and all the preparation for them and finally cross your fingers and hope it will be okay. We also noticed they had vegan chocolate cake at the counter, as well as coconut, soy and either almond or oat milk (can’t remember which) for drinks (though there is a 50p surcharge for these). The only ‘even better if’ would be marking items on the menu as vegan adaptable for ease of reading knowing at a glance what will be suitable.

As good as always. Very good food, friendly/helpful staff - what more can you say. Wide choice of cakes, sandwiches, hot lunches etc. (During lockdown they have upgraded/extended the restaurant area, giving a nice extra seating area)

We used to go to the Garden Room before lockdown on our Wednesday afternoon walks. We’ve missed our visits and their superb cakes. We visited today for the first time since lockdown. It was better than ever. Wonderful service, delicious cakes, perfect tea, it didn’t disappoint. The café is always buzzing and there’s usually a queue to get in. That is testament to the quality of the food and service, both of which are unfailingly superb. The seating areas have been extended and the whole area has been revamped and redecorated. It’s all beautifully conducive to a good sit down and a chat over a delicious breakfast, lunch or afternoon tea. Great stuff, We’re so glad you’re open again!

I have eaten breakfast and lunch here on several occasions and never been disappointed. The food is fresh and hot and has a wide choice of fixed menu choices, both snack-type food and full meals plus daily specials, today's was beef strogonoff. it is family and dog friendly. The staff and welcoming and the service good. There will almost always be a queue as it is such a popular place to eat in the village. after eating, you can stroll through the gardening and home areas - I defy anyone to come out without buying a little something!

Came here for breakfast as it is always my first choice for a breakfast, I always have the garden special it is the only place to do that breakfast and is so good! Staff are always so lovely and it will continue to be a top Choice to go too.

The Riverside Nursery/Garden View restaurant is one of our regular places for lunch, snacks and even plants !It's always full, because in our experience, it's always very good.Nice food, well prepared, reasonable prices.Very helpful, friendly staff.Good menu choices, with " specials" that vary from day to day.

We are regular visitors and love the breakfasts but they keep opening earlier than stated so even though we turn up 15 minutes early to sit inside, all the tables are taken!!! Please keep to your opening times and stop letting people in early. What is the point in having an opening time of you don’t keep to it!!

Really lovely place, good food & service my only complaint! Soon after we sat down & couple of ladies sat next to us with a dog as big as a Shetland pony! & the smell of the dog was really off putting when Our food arrived! I am not against animals at all I have a dog myself but would never take it to a place where people are eating! In such a small area!

I have visited a couple of times now. This time I took my mum who is disabled. I knew it would be busy on a Saturday, the staff were very attentive and made sure that we got seated very quickly. The room was buzzing and looking around there was all types, family get togethers, browsers from the nursery, friends and couples. The menu is very good, giving you many choices and deals, we ordered the soup which was to die for, very tasty and it came with half a baguette. Mum had the prawn jacket potato which came pilled with prawns and side salad along with homemade coleslaw. Mum loved it. I must say the staff are fantastic, they are quick to take order but happy to chat and make sure everything is ok, always with a smiling face. I would recommend this place even though you don't want to shop in the nursery (although it would be hard not to)Great food - Great service - Great place.

The cafe is a good place to go if you are already there but I wouldn't go there just for the dining experience. Having said that our meal was excellent and the service was good. Some times there can be a bit of a queue to get into the cafe but we were seated straight away and all in all it was a nice diversion. The staff seem very young ( or maybe I'm very old ) so expect casual dining rather than the Ritz but if you are in the garden centre I would say, pop in. PS. Riverside ... where ???

I’m a regular at the garden room, food is always superb and excellent service even when really busy . Only one thing I would say it’s really cold on the lawn area in the winter .The fans blow out cold air . I recommend sitting inside

Best to get there early or late really as it does get too busy and queue wait is long. Good prices for amazing food. Would be great if they could acquire a licence as would love a beer with the great good. All in all, you cannot go wrong here. Very friendly staff, lunch for three came to £30.

It sounded a bit strange to me when I was told to go to a garden centre for breakfast but that is where The Garden Room is & I’ve got to say what a lovely breakfast it was in a lovely setting with polite staff.It did get busy & I’m told it gets very busy sometimes but it’s a nice place to go.

We were looking for somewhere to grab a quick bite to eat following a funeral. We’d been into to Garden centre but never eaten here. What a mistake- great selection of food on offer from snack to main meals also reasonably priced. We both really enjoyed our food - my toastie was great and the jacket potato served to my OH got a big thumbs up ( huge amount of prawns and the potato had not been nuked!!)

We moved away from Essex 2 years ago up north, we always use to go to the garden room to meet family so as we were visting last weekend we thought this a good choice to meet family for lunch. Food and service even better than I remember it, we all loved our mains and all had cake for desert. We didn't have one complaint except we didn't have room for more.

I love egg and chips and they serve the best I have ever had. Everything else on the menu is equally good. It is always busy and you will probably have to wait for a table, but it is definitely worth the wait. The staff are very friendly and helpful. Have visited many times. Highly recommended.

All the staff were efficient, engaging and cheerful. A lovely place to spend a lunchtime. There was quite a queue, due to it’s popularity.

Visited with a friend on Sunday. We always enjoy coming here. The plants are always displayed beautifully and prices are reasonable. The restaurant is very good but arrive early as it is popular! We enjoyed coffee and cake..the staff are always friendly here but would just like to mention our lovely smiley waitress Daisy on this occasion. Wonderful service!

Been here a few times now and the food has always been great. Only downside is this place is so popular if you don’t there there early you will have a long wait. If you do wait it will be worth the effort as the food is delicious and plentiful. Did I mention get there early? only negative for me apart from the service time is get a licence it would have been nice to have a glass of wine with my food. I know you have no control over this but if you did you’d get 5 stars. Maybe 4 1/2 because you are just too busy.

I took my parents here for lunch last weekend. Really friendly cheerful staff and quick service. All the food we had was enjoyable, nothing fancy but good quality ingredients. They had a huge array of cakes which looked very good but we were to full to try them!

Great garden centrr, fabulous cafe to have great food, reasonably priced. Plenty of parking on newly refurbished car park, staff in gardrn cebtre snd cafe extremely efficient and friendly.

Met our daughters for a quick lunch, sat out side nice sunny day, dinks served quickly, order taken, lot of people in so thought it may be a long wait, but no our order arrived quite quickly, first class food, all empty plates had an ice cream dish to finish off, well done to all.

Arrived approx 11.45am and managed to get the last table in the restaurant, it then took another 40 minutes and two reminders to the waitress that we were still waiting to give our orders in, eventually we found the food to be ok, it's not the cheapest place but it is a nice setting and the whole time we were there the queue was massive so it is obviously very popular, I would probably go back to look around the garden centre and maybe grab a coffee and cake as the cakes sounded and looked amazing.

They cater for all diets, including dairy free and gluten free. Delicious coffee. I had a coconut latte that was magnificent. Highly recommend this place. Staff are very friendly and efficient.

I Love this place, mainly because of the people that work there. They are really genuine & do anything for you. Just speak to them & you build relationships really quickly with them. I'm in long term treatment & I get out so rarely, it's important that I go where I feel valued & have some fun... & I can say i certainly do.

We visited at lunchtime and although the cafe wasn't too busy and they had plently of staff (mainly teenage girls) we were ignored.

The breakfasts at The Garden Room are absolutely delicious, great bacon and sausages but the hash browns are to die for, lovely service.

Okay so came early in morning at 10.30am seems a very busy place very peaceful and friendly staff

Food was good but expensive for what it was. Waited a long while to be seated although there were a number of free tables. Service and value for money not as good as some of the other nurseries in the area.

Called in here for a lunchtime snack on the Tuesday after Easter. The good part first. The food was fine. Both of us ordered The seafood platter containing a piece of cod, squid and a prawn all in batter. Really tasty. Our meal was accompanied by their raspberry fizz drink which we both What let the place down was the service. By the time we had arrived the place was nearly empty but we had to wait for a waitress to appear to show us to a table which eventually happened. The next couple had an even lengthy wait whilst the two waitresses had a chat. When paying my attention was taken by the wide range of cakes for sale at the counter. To summarise good food but poor service. Additionally the Riverside Nursery is well worth a visit.

My wife and I visited here for our wedding anniversary lunch waited a while to be seated as very busy

I took a friend there with dementia. We waited for 45 mins very busy. But my goodness it was worth the wait. I have hunters chicken excellent. My friend had jacket potato. The service was excellent. Was a little cold in there. But I Will definitely come back next week. The staff did there best to keep up with the demand of people waiting. Very busy day for them. What a hidden gem. Xx

I visited this tea room with family members for a mid morning drink and snack. We sat at a table at the indoor venue where 2 robins were flying about. There was bird poo on the table which had not been cleaned off. We ordered 3 hot drinks and 3 pieces of cake. When the order arrived we were given dirty cutlery (which was changed when it was pointed out), one of the drinks was wrong and had to be changed and we were given dessert spoons with which to eat slices of cake rather than forks. When my husband poured tea from the teapot into the cup the pot was obviously the cheapest type and did not pour into the cup but all over his trousers instead. When we came to pay the bill, the dim member of staff could not work out the change to be given and needed help to work out the change from £20 for an £18 bill!!! Overall poor service and food. Given that they advertise themselves as selling "fabulous cakes" I think they should read the dictionary definition of "fabulous" and revise their board advertising. A poor and disappointing experience which we will not be having again.

We have been to the 'The Garden Room Café' many times over the years, and have not had any reason to complain, we have always found the service and food 100%, and enjoyed our visit either as a couple, family or with friends who have also commented on the food and service.

We have been happy customers of the garden room since it opened and every visit has been a pleasure.

What a lovely cafe very clean nice size ,buggy and wheel chair friendly. great food and friendly helpful staff and good service . I had the smoked salmon bagel it comes with a good size portion of salad and coleslaw very tasty . Then I had the cheese cake it was lovely . First visit but will be returning . Really enjoyed the meal .Good decor .

Just been to this restaurant only to find kitchen closed for refurb until March 17! Offered toast or tea cakes and cakes only. Shame been here many times and enjoyed it.

I've been here a few times for breakfast, and the food and service are always good. It's a nice atmosphere and a very comfortable spot, looking out over the fields towards the river. This was my first visit as a Coeliac, and it was the best gluten free Full English breakfast I've had, probably down to the quality of the ingredients. I'll certainly be back.

What a lovely little find this place is. Came with a friend for lunch. We had to queue but it was worth the wait.

A very busy but pleasant cafe/ restaurant.lots of seating,various styles.Due to popular demand it has been extended but still under cover. The outside area is beautiful, staff are very friendly,food is good reasonably priced.

Been a few times before and each time it's the same. Wait in queues for 15 minutes to be seated, even though there are plenty of open tables, then finally given menus, shown to a table and then you're forgotten about. 20 minutes waiting and other tables orders being taken who were seated after you. Not until you beg for service is your order taken, and then they act surprised that you've been waiting. Further 10 minutes just for drinks to be served. Then another 20 minutes for food, its disgraceful, no care to customers given. The food, when it eventually arrives, is pretty good quality, however its just not worth the dreadful service you're given. It's really not hard to figure out that people with menus have yet to have the order taken.

We frequently visit The Garden Room for beautiful breakfasts, lovely lunches and delicious cakes. Friendly staff and tasty food make this a great place to visit any time of the day.

Went for lunch as we were passing and needed something to eat, we were shown to our table as soon as we arrived, and order for drinks was taken quickly followed by our main meal, this arrived as we would expect from any restaurant, the food was excellent.

The choice is very good especially as you can build your breakfast from a list of items so you can make it just right amount for you so there is no waste. The staff are very pleasant and service is efficient. The reason it only gets 4 stars is that it is very noisy which spoils it a little

I’ve visited here a few times now and it’s one of my favourite places for lunch.

I would estimate that we have visited this restaurant 10 times in the last year and it keeps getting better. Leaves a lot of bespoke restaurants standing in terms of food and service.

We have been going to this gem since it opened and have never been disappointed. Last Sunday we had a roast dinner. We arrived at 230pm and sat straight down. The lovely waitress came to us with the menus straight away and we were served in the time you would expect a roast to arrive in. Lovely coffees were delivered to us too. I have to say this was the best roast dinner we have had out for a long time, and we do eat out at lovely places quite often. It was fresh, the veggies were cooked perfectly, in fact it was faultless.

Nice enough place but gets so very busy - for some reason it attracts quite a following. On our last visit - as another reviewer has said, it was very busy - it usually is. We were asked to share a table - after we had sat down. Probably a bit mean, but we said no as we just wanted a quiet lunch for the 2 of us. We had sandwiches - nice enough. However it was busy and noisy so I'd say ambience was a bit lacking. Mystified as to its popularity as so many people locally say it's quite disorganised there, busy and noisy. We tend to visit another cafe down the road - quieter, just as nice. I'm not saying where!! :-) Pleasant room but just too noisy.

Not been since the spring, so after wandering round the garden centre we decided upon lunch

I arrived here on my own. Asked for a table asked to sit outside as it was such a lovely day. Was escorted to a table alone. The waitress put a menu in front of me and then put one in front of the empty seat opposite me!! Very strange. I had to say 3 times I was alone. Quite upsetting for someone who’s fiancé has recently passed away!!

We visited Riverside Nursery and Garden Centre and decided to have lunch there too. There was a queue, but we didn't have to wait long for our table. Good, comprehensive menu for lunches and my grilled skate was delicious as was my husband's steak. We were quite full, but managed to have a dessert too which was also delicious. Because they were so very busy, we'd had to wait a while for our meals so the waitress gave us both a free drink before we came home, a really nice touch and we shall certainly go back again. The whole experience was really lovely.

It was a little while since we had visited 'The Garden Room' for lunch, and we felt that it was another great lunch, as the food and service was the same/better as we had received on previous visits, well done to all the staff for the great to see you all again, once again thank you.

We had lunch with a friend to celebrate her birthday. The food is excellent, wide range of items with a well prepared mix of sandwiches, wraps, jacket potatoes etc, plus special dishes that change frequently. Friendly helpful staff make the day.

This was our first visit and we didn't know it was table service which was a nice surprise. The cafe was very busy but we were attended to almost as soon as we entered the cafe and were given a nice table for 2 which was cleaned immediately. There is a good breakfast menu, I chose the smoked salmon with scrambled egg on a muffin and it was beautifully presented and very tasty. My husband had the scone, which came with very generous portions of butter, cream and jam (a nice choice of jams too!) The only slight gripe I had was that it was very noisy at certain moments but when we visit again we would sit in the indoor conservatory area which seemed much quieter. Excellent value and the staff couldn't have been nicer.

I use this café at least once a month to catch up with friends. It is always busy and you may have to queue for a short time. My friend is in a wheelchair and the staff are always happy to find a suitable spot for her. You can eat inside, in a covered outer area or outside on a patio, depending on the weather. The food has always been delicious. My friend recommends the lasagne. If you have room, try the amazing range of home made cakes. They are yummy. If you can't manage a cake whilst you are there, the staff will box some up for you to take away. Keep up the good work.

Popped in for breakfast with my hubby and 6 month old. Ladies well are friendly and welcoming offering a high chair and seating us at a table that had room for our pushchair. Lovely clean bright restaurant. Food and drink order taken quickly and we had a full English each and a lot of tea for two. The food came out super quick and was delicious and well cooked. Food prices were reasonable. There were some delicious looking cakes and cheesecakes on the counter but we were too full up. Had a browse round the garden centre afterwards. Would defo visit again for breakfast

Great food, although small menu. You have to get in early as it gets very busy. Half of the restaurant ( all undercover) welcomes dogs. The nursery is also a great place to shop

My family and I have recently come across the Garden tea room and we absolutely love it! We have visited a few times now and every time, it is as amazing as the last!

I come here quite often as it’s a great place to catch up with friends for lunch or just a cuppa and a cake. I took another friends there yesterday for lunch and had one of the specials which was delicious. She was so impressed she is going to take her husband there for breakfast on Saturday. It’s great for a bit of retail therapy in the garden centre too!

I come to riverside garden center quite often and always have to stop in the garden room for something yummy to eat! Today I had a jacket potato with tuna mayo and cheese, you get a generous helping of salad and coleslaw to go with it and the portion sizes of their meals are really good. There is a wide selection of amazing cakes and cheesecakes to choose from and the menu varies depending on the time of day (breakfast, lunch, dinner) I would recommend this place to anyone within the area if you want lovely food and a drink. It can get very busy at times but it’s worth the wait as they have 3 separate seating areas

Located in the Riverside nursery and garden centre this busy cafe serves great food in air conditioned surroundings. Or you can opt for the garden with views across to the river. Staff are friendly, helpful and efficient. There was a slight problem when only two of our four meals arrived, because of another customer! as soon as this was noticed it was put right straight away.

Been here a few times and on every occasion food and service has been excellent. I think this is a hidden little gem.

I went for lunch here on Friday with a friend who introduced me to the place, then took my partner for breakfast on Sunday. The location is lovely, overlooking fields and we could see boats in the distance. The outdoor area showcases some of the plants they sell there. The interior is tasteful and even the side part has its attraction-a resident robin bobs in to see what's going on. We didn't have to wait for any significant amount of time to be seated, have our order taken and be served our food and drinks. The staff were friendly. The garden centre has a lot to offer-I bought a plant and some quirky coasters. I'm already looking forward to going back again soon! For some reason I'm unable to rate service, food and value-I would have given them all 5 stars!

Waited a full year to go and have breakfast on the patio at this lovely garden centre, and it was really nice . We had the ‘full English ‘ with toast and coffee. Great quality ,great service great price and a lovely atmosphere. Will certainly not wait a year before going again. Thankyou Riverside

A friend took me to the riverside nursery for lunch.

Have been to this garden centre many times and also visited the cafe for breakfast but this is the the first time I have been for breakfast since being diagnosed with a gluten intolerance I was pleasantly surprised that I could have a full English breakfast gluten free the waitress was very knowledgeable about what I could have and I enjoyed everything about my visit will definitely return well done

This places will always draw me in for a coffee and some cake....

My nan recommended the garden room so we came for lunch after a walk around the garden centre. The staff were so friendly and helpful as my seven month old was with us. There’s plenty of choice on the menu, with an additional selection of specials. We all went for sandwiches, which were huge and packed with filling - and served with salad and coleslaw. We sat inside as the weather was bad - but it was light, spacious and so clean! Would return if in the area... the cakes looked amazing!

This place us very popular so it's a good idea to get there early. The service is very good as is the food. Dogs are welcome which is great. The menu is varied and the cakes look vert tempting.

Having strolled round the nursery, my partner and I dropped into The Garden Room for a snack and were both highly impressed with our fare.

Went and had lunch with my wife, we were both looking forward to our meal, and as always we were not disappointed, the food very tasty and the service was first class as always.

I have visited the garden room in riverside garden centre numerous times and never been disappointed. The breakfasts are very tasty. Good quality food - no cheap sausages or tasteless bacon like so many other places. Make sure you check the specials board as well as the meals I've had have been super tasty!

I visited the restaurant yesterday in my electric scooter and with my assistance dog. Staff helped me in, moved chairs to help me access a suitable place to sit and, best of all, they had a fantastic selection of cakes. Last time I had a very large slice of St clements orange gateaux and yesterday I chose apricot and almond but it was a difficult choice as I wanted to try them all!!

I went with a friend for a quick lunch. We sat in the 'outside' garden bit which was lovely and warm. We ordered coffees/ juices, a jacket potato and toasted sandwich. Both came with a generous amount of salad and coleslaw. We didn't have time to look at the desserts but will definitely go back to try them.

This restaurant was busy but the waitress quickly found us an empty table. Menu is varied and suits all tastes, specials are available on a daily basis. The Home made cakes are lovely! Food served in good time and well presented, staff really helpful. Prices are competitive - loved our visit and will return

When ever we can we drop in and have lunch at the Garden Room Café with our daughters, as you can always count on a good lunch and service, and after that a look around the Christmas display.

Popped into the nursery with my husband for a wander round and to see what new items they had in the gift area and decided to have lunch there.It was really busy but the service was good and the food, when it arrived,was freshly made and there was plenty of it.We had sandwiches which were actually so filling that neither of us could finish all that was on our plates. I would definitely recommend it to anyone even if you don't want to buy from their excellent range of high quality plants and gifts its still worth going there for a coffee or for lunch.

Arrived early on a Sunday about 9.45 and there were six tables taken already. We had been recommended this place so decided to give it a try.This restaurant is very cute & modern at the back of the Garden Center, prices were good, service was also ok. Average wait time for the food, though a small mistake was made, after breakfast my Hubbie & I went to the cakes on display to see which one we could manage to fit in, when we arrived back at our table the waitress was clearing our plates away.Bit annoyed as we had not yet finished our tea, wanted to have some with cake, she did apologise and brought new cups out.We had a full breakfast, scrambled egg on toast pot of tea for two and I had a Malteser cheesecake, which was average very very rich and dense, Hubbie had Cherry & Sultana cake which he liked.The price was good £22.25 and we would go again, thought the selection of cakes maybe could’ve been a bit better, there was a few choices just nothing that I really fancied like a chocolate cake or carrot cake.The place did fill up very quickly, lots of families, glad we arrived early and by 10.30 the restaurant was full inside, nice seating outside overlooking the field so would be fab in the Summer.

We've been visiting this restaurant a few times. The staff are very polite and helpful. The service is smooth and ... I can't say it's fast but we didn't mind waiting. If you like tea, order tea for two for 1 person. I finished my tea (for 1) by the time the food was served. The full English breakfast was very yummy, good quality ingredients. I can definitely recommend them!

This bustling tucked away restaurant (attached to a Garden Centre) is an absolute must visit. We had full English breakfast and a sausage sandwich. It was eey busy at 11 am but we were quite kly seated and our order taken. Serve is superb and the food excellent. It's far too easy to make a mediocre full English; what they serve is perfection. From the beans in a nice thick mouthfeel sauce to the bacon (smoked) and sausages both perfectly cooked. A "wet" yolk in a non crispy fried white egg is complimented by a lovely large single mushroom and an unusal shaped hash brown. Easily 12/10.

Lunch and a stroll round with my cousins, they were most impressed with it all. Just one observation from me,As I am gluten intolerant would liked to have had bread instead of a gf bap, which I am not keen on, wish I hadBeen told that is what I would have been served. We went outside for our cakes, gf range most impressive, cousins again were pleased we had chosen to take them there as they were up from Sussex for a few days.Well done all again on a busy day x

Although we were a little bit later than normal arriving for our lunch with our daughter,we did find it very busy, no problem we were seated with no wait at all. We were left with our menu and the young lady took our drinks order, our drinks arrived with out delay and our main cause was taken.We observed that due to the amount of customers no one was left waiting ,the girls were working there buts off.Our order arrived after a short time and went down very well, this was followed up with there homemade cheesecake, well worth a try.Thanks girls for looking after us, another great lunch, see you all on our next visit.

What a delightful place to visit! The staff are lovely, and such a nice atmosphere in the garden centre. And the Garden Room is a real treat - noisy in the main room it's true, and yes we had to queue for quite a while for a table but that just goes to show how popular it is. The food was good, views wonderful and all in all highly recommend. One or two of the waitresses though could learn a little more about customer service hence the 4 stars, the dis-interest when waiting outside as first time visitors trying to find out if we found our own table, or if we needed to wait inside or outside nearly made us leave and go elsewhere - however glad we didn't as everyone else was very helpful
