Food was delicious, and it is clear that the owner is super passionate about food and ingredients. Good level of service. Atmosphere warm and welcoming. Highly recommended. The only top tip is to double-check your booking. The booking system seems a little temperamental.

Great evening here with great food. Only very slight negative is they forgot to offer a drink before trying to take the food order but that wasn't a problem for me. I would defo recommend.

Poor choice of food, no menus, only displayed specials, not a good choice. Ended up with two bland starters and 2 burgers for £90.00 for 2 people. Not good value at all, not recommended to friends or family.

Fantastic venison and very welcoming landlord

Visited with 20 other work colleagues for dinner and was blown away by the service and food quality along with some great gamey options, e.g. wild pig and venison scotch egg. The host was so friendly and welcoming and catered for some tough dietary requirements without any issues, I think he was making up dishes on the fly! Meals were not only tasty but large in size as well, was disappointed I couldn't fit any pudding in! Thoroughly recommend and will be back next time I'm over.

It was a wonderful visit. We'd heard good things about this local pub, but we just hadn't made the time to go there until today. We shouldn't have waited so long. We were confronted with a wonderful atmosphere, tatty food, and very friendly service. We will definitely be returning.

Food was first class and couldn't be faulted in any way! Probably the best food I've had in a pub, Ever! Some reviewers complain about the price of the food, yes its a bit more expensive than other pubs but you get what you pay for! This is real, home cooked, quality food and worth paying a little more!

We held our work christmas party for 58 people here and it was FANTASTIC!! The staff were amazingly friendly, prompt and efficient. Ambience was lovely and Christmassy. Food was incredible, served quickly and lots of it! Would definitely recommend :)

Recommended by my daughter, met up with an old friend to have some lunch on the 8th Dec 2023. We had not booked a table but their kindly fitted us in. Excellent service and food incredible. Staff were polite and always smiling, I don`t think I can praise this establishment enough. The food was absolutely amazing. I would highly recommend.

This is an absolutely spectacular pub. The food was beyond what I expected and really was amazing. The owner and staff were all lovely and friendly (made us feel at home) and the beer was great. I had a venison scotch egg followed by some more venison (why not?) and both dishes were delicious.

5 stars for the amazing food. We booked this for our 25th anniversary. Due to the lack of acknowledgement and not so attentive service I can only give 3 stars. We ordered a bottle of wine and had to serve ourselves, the table was next to the kitchen door and the main walkway to lots of tables. Menus are difficult to read and although they are read out to you we resorted to the internet to get a better look of the food. I had the venison gnocchi with a white wine sauce which was delicious. My husband had the steak and said it was good. Special occasion for us, but spoilt by the atmosphere.

First time visit and will go back. Food was lovely and extremely filling. Felt very welcomed and as others have said, they are passionate about their food and with good reason. The road in isn't the best so go careful if you have low profile tyres. Not the Gamekeepers fault, usual UK roads!

You always get a good meal here, but on this occasion it was even better than usual.. All the food was lovely and the service was very good . Thai fishcakes and venison were excellent and the sea bass was also lovely.

Lovely old fashioned pub in very tranquil surroundings. The food is incredible, with some amazing choices. I had the fillet of beef for a main course and the taste is to die for. If you have not been here, definitely give it a try, I am sure you will not be disappointed.

This is a hidden gem!! Once found I'm sure you'll return. We regularly use The Gamekeepers for work functions and they never fail to impress or deliver nothing but the best, regarding food and service.

Varied menu cooked by some very good chefs. Service friendly and efficient, could not fault the staff or owner. A good English pub with loads of character. A fair price for the quality of food, cooking and service.

Incredible meal at the Gamekeeper, a 5* welcome and service. The food was delicious, best meal of the year! Had the hot pot then venison for a meal and their famous sticky toffee pudding, which was out of this world! I definitely recommend this place, it’s not cheap but worth it for the quality of the service and the food. Thanks for a great evening

My girlfriend and I came here for a quiet birthday meal. We both love game but more so we love locally sourced food and good people. Right from the start we were greeted by the team and then talked through the menu and how they use every bit of the produce in a variety of ways. The menu itself wasn’t huge but it really didn’t need to be when the food is that great. Thanks for a great visit team!

Fantastic food. They have a specials board and are so passionate about their food. They were so good at catering to allergies, I didn't feel that anything was compromised on. The fillet was perfectly cooked and after we retired to the sofas to enjoy another pint. We will definitely be back.

This was a very disappointing experience. The food was overpriced and only quite good. Too often we were interrupted by staff with no ‘excuse me’, so conversations were halted mid-flow. We were sprinted through the menu which was written on a blackboard and hard to see. The staff were not particularly friendly, many sitting about looking bored. At 9.45 pm we were told they were locking up in ten minutes - we hadn’t even paid our bill at this point - and told drink up. We paid over £60 for two drinks, two main courses and one coffee. Absolutely ridiculous. Never shall we return.

This place not only produces srsly tasty meals, the fabulous family running it know how to adapt things for food allergies and intolerances too. Dairy allergy? egg intolerance? Gluten free? There's always plenty of options that can be adapted, and he'll make sure that it doesn't end up bland. Always welcoming, and with a friendly team.

Only dropped in for a drink after a walk locally. It was a quiet Sunday evening and the landlord was chatting with a group of locals. A warm welcome was extended, dogs were introduced and a pint appeared in double quick time. The sort of pub I like. Hope to be back ere long for lunch or dinner.

So impressed with The Gamekeepers. I met a friend for Sunday lunch, as it was about halfway between us, and I am now very much wishing it was my local. It has the feel of a proper, cosy pub with history, but also has an amazing, gastro menu of fine dining comfort food, beautifully prepared. The staff were warm, attentive and unusually helpful. It's one of those rare gems whose publican is the heart of the establishment and he really cares about his customers' experience. It was suggested to me by neighbouring Four Seasons Hotel and proved more than worthy of their recommendation. Thank you Gamekeepers!

This place is very characteristic and the idea of ​​the menu on the blackboards is nice. Staff and owner more than kind and able to explain and recommend dishes. My beef fillet was very good and the side dish of potato slices exceptional. The only drawback was that the payment link was not active but we agreed on an alternative way to pay. If you are unsure about the dishes, ask for advice!

We were made so welcome on arrival, and the landlord went through the menu with passion and knowledge. We sat outside as it was a beautiful day, so hence the atmosphere score, but it was clear that on a busy evening it would be a great atmosphere inside. Food was excellent, particularly the fig starter! Chosen as a mid point to meet a friend, we were so lucky to come across The Gamekeeper, and will definitely be back!

I had a lovely Birthday meal here. The food was excellent, in fact, its the best restaurant in the area.

Like most things in our modern world, you get what you pay for. And The Gamekeepers is no exception to that rule. Try the venison......it's just amazing.

Extremely nice place. Very pricey, but I must say, they definitely deliver on the quality. £35+ for a good main dish, but it was the best meat I've ever had, and cooked to perfection! If you can afford to go, most definitely do so!

Really excellent food, good choice of dishes on the blackboard nicely explained to us by the owner who was prepared to change/swap ingredients to suit people's preferences if need be. Service all round was friendly and prompt. The owner was really helpful to a couple who came in with small children which was nice to see. We hope to be back soon!

Stumbled across The Gamekeepers Inn on a Sunday evening when looking for a pub to have dinner at 7pm after a long day in the outdoors. The owners Philip and Sandra were warm and welcoming, explained the menu and had food and drink before us within what seemed minutes. We had the baked Tunworth cheese to share which was luxurious, the lasagne and gnocchi for main. The ingredients made these dishes delicious and if you like generous portions then you won't be disappointed, we will make a return visit to try the other delights on the menu.

If you like game then this lovely country pub is a must. Service is friendly and attentive. The menu is fresh on the day and on the boards in the pub and changes all the time plus lots of specials. The team really know their stuff. We had the gamekeeper lasagne which just gorgeous. The Italian game meatballs with pasta as a stater was delicious and the Scotch egg is so tasty, we wanted more. Best sticky toffee ever for desert. We will be back soon.

Lovely pub / restaurant tucked away in the countryside. Would be a great dog walk stop or nice dinner out…the menu is all home cooked and made, wouldn’t hesitate to recommend.

Fantastic food and a must visit in the area. Local produce and game cooked expertly. A setting with local history dating back to the 19th century, staffed by friendly people.

Absolutely fantastic food! Chef knows what medium rare is, cuts of meat are full of flavour and are cooked to perfection. Was almost a shame to eat a work of art! The chef clearly loves his work and it shows in the quality of food that he serves. Would be there every week if I lived nearby! Wonderful service, staff are great, owner is friendly and extremely accommodating when it comes to requests. Amazing history of the pub itself is fascinating to hear.

Just back from Mothers Day meal at The Gamekeepers. I have not been before. I ask myself why not! Honestly the best meal eaten. The owner and his wife plus staff were so lovely, friendly and accommodating, informative on every aspect of the food being served. The chefs proceeded all expectations - well done you. I could not fault anything. We had lovely meals. I couldn’t even speak at points as I just wanted to savour every morsel - hats off! We will definitely be back again. If you haven’t been, why not? Book in. I had Loin of Venison. Big 5 stars given x

Fabulous pub in Basingstoke. I've visited twice - have had both vegan and meat options and it has always been delicious and filling. They don't skimp on flavour or veggies. The staff are really sweet and are happy to cater to your needs. I requested that the skin be removed in the pan fried chicken breast and the chef was more than happy to do so. If you aren't sure about what to choose, they will also recommend. It is a family run pub and the care, love and attention shows. Beautiful interiors giving you a cosy feel and ample parking space as well. I highly recommend this pub for a friendly catch-up or a special meal.

This is the type of pub everyone needs in the winter. The pub has a traditional feel, it was warm and cozy and very comfortable. The food was very good, by having a small menu you can tell they make these dishes well. Party of 4 we all had something different and we all liked the food. It is expensive but everything is now. Great wine list too. The young and lovely Emma served us A* service. All the staff were very pleasant and I will try to visit again.

A really nice pub we will definitely visit again. The only downside is if you're sitting on the sofa's, the staff door that's used almost constantly slams every time. Small issue, but easily solvable!

Love it. Gastropub that's family run in the heart of a country village. Ever changing blackboard menu. Super flexible and helpful with menu. I'm vegan...plenty of choices and love here! But meat eaters will not be disappointed! Ample portions.

Probably the tastiest venison we’ve ever had. Paired with a bottle of their Grand Cru made it more special. The lovely staff couldn’t have been more accommodating. A real gem of a pub and we’ll be back soon.

Nice old pub, decent setting. Fairly limited menu, with interesting options. Service and staff were good but overall the food was pretty average. Had the lasagne and salad main. Flavour was ok, but slightly tepid and the cooking wasn't great. Didn't have the deep rich texture or enough bite ok the pasta. Also no browning or finish to the bechamel or any cheese topping. Fries ok. German pils beer was notice though. Not inexpensive either. Shame as with a bit more polish to the food could be good. Don't think I would eat there again.

Very very good! Loved the food, the unique atmosphere, the iconic owner and the super friendly staff. If you love meat, go for it. The beef filet is a must. Venison is also on the menu. Will come back.

A perfect way to break dry January by going to this fantastic gastro pub in Hampshire. Food was superb and service warm and very welcoming. A really lovely atmosphere was the highlight which was due to the enthusiasm and evident enjoyment of the pub management...

Excellent experience. Phil I'm guessing the owner, came over to explain the menu himself! And then we could edit our own meals so all obviously cooked very fresh. And what a meal it was. Absolutely devine. I'm not a meat eater and this place is heavy on the meat which is fair enough as it is the gamekeepers pub, however they really went the extra mile to make me feel welcomed and feed. Highly highly recommend

Good quality food but pricey for rather small portions.

Just had an amazing meal for my partners birthday treat. The whole meal was gorgeous - fresh menu ideas and cooked superbly. Highly recommend a visit, but you will need to book as the place was rammed and this is the middle of winter!
