The Game Cock Inn in Hyndburn

Called in with our dogs for a spot of Tea. The pub was relatively quiet so no queues for food. I opted for Ham Egg and Chips and I have to say some of the best pub chips I have had. Dry, crispy and fluffy light inside. It came with two eggs, done very nicely and slices of Gammon from the carvery. Really enjoyed it. The boss had the chicken burger, and unlike her, she ate the lot, she also loved the chips. All was well cooked and presented. As for the hounds, they got a bowl each of off cuts from the carvery and loved them. The staff were very friendly and polite and a cracking pint of Caffreys . Will definitely be back.

Been before and enjoyed the carvery meal very much. Yesterday oh dear, cold plates, extremely well done roasties, wafer thin carrots, hard! To top it all knives that wouldn't have cut through warm butter let alone roast beef! Very disappointed. You never seem to see the same staff twice and I wonder why?

Called for an early tea and had the carvery, turkey, beef and gammon on. It was excellent value for money and lots of meat on the plate..very tasty and will return.

The carvery was excellent food hot . Lovely friendly atmosphere been here three times now as new to the area and have enjoyed each time . Staff very friendly will definitely be back .

I choose this place for a birthday meal for the family there were six of us in total. Very disappointed with this meal. We selected the carvery for the three choices of meats Ham, Beef & Turkey. Having paid at the bar for the Carvery when queuing for the meal we noticed all the turkey had gone & was told it would be another hour to an hour & half before there would be anymore. A couple of members in my party only wanted the turkey so had to settle for the vegetables. The roast potatoes were hard cauliflower cheese dry & wasn't impressed with the other vegetables on offer. I wont be go to the Game Cock ever again & neither will any members of my family.

First time here, large car park not many patrons, bar service was helpful and quick. The menu isn't huge but I picked the Blackrose burger and my partner had scampi. We received an apology for the delay in delivering the food, although neither of us minded as fresh cooked takes time. When the food arrived, the scampi was tepid. The Blackrose burger was served on a cold bread roll, the bottom of which was hard, almost like freezer burn. The cheese I was assured later was nacho cheese as per the menu (let's call that cold and squeezy). The actual meat was quite tasty although I always prefer my food hot, or at least above room temperature. I was taught that for coleslaw to be really tasty it should have almost equal quantities of carrot, onion and white cabbage and a good mayonnaise. I've tasted better from the saver range to be honest. We did notify staff before we left so as to hopefully enlighten them as to the quality of food. We didn't ask for any refund as I know some people see getting a refund as a game. I'm not playing with the Game Cock again!

Had our annual Christmas bash at the Gamecock last night. The food was excellent, lots of choice of meats, and the veggies were fresh, monster Yorkshire puddings and all piping hot! Staff were welcoming and very helpful service was faultless. The dessert Black Forest Sundae, was simply the icing on the cake for me!

There wasn't a menu it was carvery or nothing they kept coming out from behind the bar spraying air fresheners as there was a drainage smell. Been here lots of times over the last 5 years and cannot believe how down hill it has gone.

Four of us met up here for a family gathering/Christmas meal out. The young man on the front of house had hospitality skills many other eateries sadly lack. The chef on the hotplate was cheerful and we received an excellent portion. There was also a fine array of vegetables with the only minor quibble being the mashed potatoes were cold. All in all an excellent experience and we will most certainly be returning again soon.

firstly i can not fault the staff or indeed the quality of the carvery ,The choice of vegitables roast potatoes onions in gravy very good .My only complaint is the megure portions of meat ,There are three choices of meat gammon beef turkey all very well prepared .I ordered just turkey and beef ,I got a razor sharp slither from both cuts .Obviously i did not expect a huge portion as the carvery has to be economical ,But in the past i have had larger cuts of meat and did feel somewhat let down. The staff very nice people ,But please a decent cut of meat ,i personally would not mind paying a more if the portions increased .

Horrible water mash. Cold vegetables. Tasteless gravy and all the pepperpots were empty. Do not waste your money.

Delicious. Food is always scrumptious and excellent. Great service and welcoming, friendly staff. Amazing vibes and aesthetic. So so cosy and inviting. Best carvery around. A hidden gem!

We had lunch with our daughter and I must say we were very satisfied with it we don't usualy like carvery's as they are normaly not very hot and food seems to have been there a while, but this was excellant the meats very tender just melted in the mouth and the staff very friendly also very reasonable

We visited earlier this week on our way home from Clitheroe. We all opted for a carvery - what a delight it was; Buttery melt in the mouth turkey, roast beef - full of flavour, homemade yorkshire pudding - as fluffy as a pancake, and not to forget stuffing ball - gorgeous. We all went for the cheesy mash, roasted butternut squash, roast potatoes, carrots and, well you get the idea! All were flavourful.

Tracy the assistant manager was amazing. Really helpful, made herself apart of our party but in a welcoming way. 5 stars all the away

We visit here quite often, normally for a couple of drinks or some lunch and it’s always nice so this time we tried the carvery. It was amazing, the meats, turkey, gammon and beef were all cooked to perfection and the selection of fresh (not frozen) vegetables and potatoes was also delicious. We will certainly be back.

had a lovely day visiting our friends for their birthdays . Mark the manager was very welcoming his staff were very friendly and warm, food was excellent place was spotless and very homely and well worth the visit

we went as a last minute family birthday tea, I cannot thank all the staff enough for the effort they put in to making our evening special. we were made to feel very welcome. The carvery was very very good as was the other menu, the onion rings were the best. I will definitely be returning.

Having come for food to the game cock on a regular basis over the years, we thought we would try it out after not visiting for a while since the pub was under new ownership. We booked a table for 6:30pm. Arrived and explained how we had a table booked and was told to sit wherever, no table reserved etc. We ordered drinks and upon arrival hardly any communication from staff, no menus given etc in which we asked ourselves, we was then told there was 1 chef on and they was short staffed and wasn’t doing normal food off the menu at all which only left the choice of a carvery in which we didn’t really want. The lady at the bar was extremely unhelpful and not welcoming at all! There was hardly any tables available due to dirty plates stacked and glasses. and 2 staff on the bar and floor. Had the lady of told us there was no food off the menu we would of reconsidered for a different day. 2nd lady on the bar was absolutely lovely and very helpful but 1st member of staff was rather rude. Chef was really nice and food was excellent although clearly short staffed and lack of communication.

Spot on carvery and the mushroom soup was exceptional, Tracey made us feel welcome and the lovely female chef was brilliabt absolutely recommend

Told you shut at 9pm so bought extra drinks only to be told afterwards you shut at 8pm even though on the website it also says you shut st 9pm . Do you even know what time you shut .ridiculous

This afternoon me and my friends decide to visit this pub whilst we was one our travels, it is very appealing on the eye, but don’t be fooled! When we got in we asked if we could sit outside (because it was such a lovely day), which they let us do but after sitting outside for 35 minutes and not being served, we had to ask for service and when we did we had a very cold and rude response, once our order was taken we was made to pay for the food before we had eaten, which I found very strange as hadn’t even our drinks brought to us, this made us feel very singled out,I’m guessing but our agricultural looks, eventually we when got our order it was very poor, perhaps the worst meal I’ve ever had it was very over priced and very over cooked, I would not recommend going to this so called “country pub” and we will not be visiting again!!!Your William

Lovely meal for me, my husband and two grandchildren. Great value, great service. I had the vegetarian burger & fries, plus onion rings which were delicious. Can't fault it.

Me*my partner called here on the way back from holiday in york. We were so hungry so was looking forward to food.i had chicken gouchons for starter my partner had pate. Both starters were delish could not fault. Then for mains I has made and sausages and veg I have totally forgotten what other half had ha ha ha but anyway the point is that our food was burning hot and delish and very well presented . We couldn't of asked for more if we tried . And the bar tender was brilliant NUFIN too much trouble for him very obliging indeed so much so we left him a tip on the table . We will 100% be returning again soon

Just been here 29th September for lunch and wish I'd have drove past it.chips was reheated dry and cold the steak I thought it was off a rhino it was that tough and luke warm. Lovely deco inside but food wasn't nice .probably only 10 people in so how can you not even get chips right.Won't be going again even if it was free.

Called here for covic offer. I had steak and ale pie, never again. There was more gristle than steak, the chips were extremely sparce - barely half a portion and they were stone cold too. We thought pudding would be better, I opted for sticky toffee pudding with ice cream - just awful, the worst microwaveable pudding I have ever tasted, Mr. Kipling is far better. Please think twice before choosing here for a meal out, if the dreadful food won't put you off, then the screaming kids on the nearby table will, the only good thing here is the waitress, she is so pleasant

We have dined here 4 times in 2 weeks (once for lunch and three evening meals). Each time we were greeted with a warm welcome. The menu choice is great and between the three of us we have just about tried everything on offer and not been disappointed. The food is served hot, is a healthy portion and tastes delicious. They have been very busy, especially with the 'dine out to help out' offer. We can't believe we have had a 3 course meal and 2 soft drinks each for under£30 ( you can't make it at home for that price). Even without the offer the price is still very good for what you get. Special thank you to Susan and Tracey, each visit you have been so welcoming and friendly and made us feel right at home. Thanks also to the kitchen staff who we are sure are under a lot of pressure due to the high demand. We look forward to our next visit.

called in last tuesday for some tea. There was no sign of track and trace and then we waited 57 mins just for a drink .When the food arrived the steak was very tough and chewey. Wont be calling again any time soon .

The food I received was disgusting! My cheese pie was water, I couldn’t even get it on my fork. I tried to eat it and couldn’t do it. I then received a sticky toffee pudding which stated on the menu that it came with ice cream. I received mine with custard. I then complained and my dessert was returned to only come back out with it just being taken off the plate it was previously on (very messily I may add) still with custard on ( which I am allergic too.) My friend received a prawn cocktails for her starter that tasted of nothing we tried to freshen up the taste by adding salt and lemon juice and it was just bland. We also received a chocolate brownie. I have seen bigger flys in my life time than that brownie. Overall NOT impressed and will not be going back.

First pub meal since the start of lockdown - lovely sunny day and thoroughly enjoyed our salads and chips - a lovely treat after such a long time - food and service was great and all COVID standards were met - thank you for a memorable return to a bit of normality

Hadn’t been for a few years, had a couple of bad visits when it changed hands.Seen some good reviews and thought we’d try again.What a difference! Nice, bright, fresh decor. Spotlessly clean and well organised.The staff were all great, friendly but professional. Although there was no Carvery at the time the menu was plenty big enough. Plenty of choice and good offers. Really good sized portions of, obviously, freshly prepared food and delicious sweet menu.Well done all, definitely coming back

The carvery was good with lovely meat. However, the sticky toffee pudding turned out to be a syrup sponge. They are totally different, but I was told what I ate was officially sticky toffee pudding. Check out the real thing at Cartmel and you'll see the difference. Refurbishment has brought in 1990s 'Central Perk'-style sofas along with tables so low you can't eat at them and no space to get legs under them. A helpful member of staff agreed to us having our meal in the 'Functions Room' which had comfortable and conventional furniture.

Our walking group visited the Game Cock after an outing at nearby Spring Wood Picnic Area. By arrangement we asked for the function room to be available. In setting up our visit I had dealings with Megan ( a manager?) who understood the need for flexibility as timings are not always easy to stick to with a walk. When we arrived she quickly organised the bar so that drinks and carvery orders were taken by one staff member while drinks were dispensed by herself. This helped process 26 hungry walkers very quickly. Once again (our 3rd visit) we enjoyed friendly and efficient service.

Another great visit to the breakfast buffet excellent as usual toast fantastic quality, staff very friendly, lovely clean establishment. Only quibble is the mugs for the tea, s where well cracked and needed replacing still just a little thing. Keep up the great work we will return.

I wished we had gone elsewhere and won't be going back. We ordered 3 carverys they had no meat at all. Saying it had been dropped on the floor by accident. Then we went for hunters chicken had no chicken, diet coke had run out. It was a absolute joke. Best part of £40 very dissatisfied. If you want a good meal go elsewhere.

Just been with the Missus wish I had gone elsewhere!..ordered turkey which was dry and got 2 slices and a bit of scrag end which when I commented to the guy serving he said “well their bigger plates than normal !!”..The veg was stone cold and way past it’s best then to top of it off the gravy (if u can call it that) was like puddle water!..Utter waste of £20!

Not enough staff , very slow service and the food from the carvery was Luke warm .the staff were very nice and friendly but there just wasn't enough of them. We queued at the bar for ages . When we ordered our food the starters took ages and then we had a long wait for the one meal not a carvery . The food on the carvery was plentiful and the serving spoons were red hot I thought the food would be too , it was barely warm and cold by the time we finished eating . I was so disappointed . I have put it was poor value for money because the choice was limited for me as a veggie . I basically had veg from the carvery .Not a brilliant choice of veggie meals for a healthy eater . Cold food as well not good , if it had been warm I might have felt differently about the whole experience .

Arrived at a fairly quiet time, easy to find a table. Not so easy to place an order.Having one colleague behind the bar in a restaurant in rather careless.Eventually got served. Even my kids asked where I had been to order.Was recommended to come here but simply wouldn’t bother again.Far better, far quicker, far more cost effective.

Me and my mum came here after an hospital appointment The meat was cold veg was like rubber and the roast potatoes was just like 30 sec in oven no colour to them the gravy was like water The lightning was poor in the pub couldn’t see much Only did one size of pop £20 wasted that day

This place just gets better and betterwe called here for buffet breakfast we have always come for years and now took over, the food quality and choice is even better than our last visit with mushrooms blackpudding and nice bread and grilled tomatoes added since last visit. I have only recently started coming back here since its been taken over and what a great change it has been the service is fantastic,, the Carvery outstanding so good I've been twice this week, I will definatly recommend people dinning here we dined this evening (Sunday 17th) and I would just like to thank the gentleman serving behind the bar I feel bad as didn't get his name to name him on here but each time I've been here he has certainly gone above and beyond for us and his manners and customer service is outstanding we will be returning as we told him this may be a weekly stop for tea from now on.

Ive eaten here a few times with my family and always enjoy a lovely meal. We usually have the carvery. The only disappointment is there used to be stuffing and mushy peas on offer and occasionally, new potatoes.

Very good food. Great value for money. Two visits made and both times have been very good. Lovely staff but I think there needs to be more bar staff as this pub is very popular and perhaps a separate till for paying for drinks is required to food. We had to wait a long time to be able to get our drinks once our food was ordered.

This place as been revamped and it needed it,, but they always run out or don't have certain meats it badly organized, Yes we all have teething problems but they should be sorted out within a week or so not still having same problems months later

Came in for an all-you-can-eat breakfast, Lovely atmosphere and decor. Staff are friendly. A £5 all you can eat breakfast, good value.

Just popped in for a coffee, the whole place was very impressive, the staff were more than accommodating , on are way out we passed through the beer garden. The rural view of the countryside is to die for thanks

We have been to the Gamecock as a family for both the carvery and breakfast. On this occasion it was for breakfast. We arrived about 9.30, it wasn’t that busy. When I ordered the breakfasts I was informed the sausages would be 5mins. So we had some toast and waited, which I have to say is the best part of the breakfast. Waited 10mins still no sausages, waited over 20 mins and finally the sausages came out at which point there are now no bacon, scrambled eggs and fried eggs., when the bacon did come out it was barely cooked and extremely fatty. The sausages were heavily seasoned and that’s all you could taste. A couple of people got up and left because they couldn’t wait any longer. This place has had a lot of money spent on it, which it desperately needed, it’s a shame the service doesn’t match. Won’t be going again.

£17.20 for 2 carries and 2 teas , the food was cold by the time the chef had dished the meat and Yorkshire pudding on the plate there was not much room for anymore. The potatoes were tough to cut a bit like frozen the meat , peas was cold I left most of mine.

Nice upgrade, must say. Been coming here for years. Always known what to expect and were never over ambitious. We were keen, therefore, to see what's on offer these days. Our companions booked a table-dog friendly a plus, fair play. My fish was okay but the rest on the plate was cold and so was the food on my companions plates. One of our company ordered fish pie which arrived after the company had completed their meals. All of the vegetables on the carvery appeared to be tinned or frozen but all cold. The server was skilled at slicing meat super thin.The selection on the servery also seemed to have depleted. We're visitors to the area and have always visited the gamecock at least thrice per visit. Once was sufficient this visit. The staff were pleasant enough but considering the place was almost empty there seemed to be no-one in charge.

It has been a couple of years since we had been to the Gamecock. We had read that it had been modernised and was under new management. We hadn't booked but this wasn't a problem when greeted by a very friendly young man behind the bar.

We have started a trend of meeting up with our friends for breakfast at least once a month for breakfast and a good natter on a Sunday morning. We heard about the Game Cock and decided to give it a try. Amazing...the breakfast is very reasonably priced, plenty of choice on the self service counter, always fresh, choice of brews and toast too. The staff are very helpful, friendly and courteous.

Years ago this was one of the best pubs in LANCASHIRE then it started doing carvers at a low price it went down hill fast ,now it has been started up underneath still the same asked the landlord if it would keep open after 9pm was told it would two weeks later shut at 8.30not good on a warm summer evening needs to do proper meals and much better service.

I came in and commented on the state of the furniture, carpets to the brewery and same old answer, we've never had complaints, well you have had one from me, today I sit in a revamped pub and what a difference, everything looks Clean, bright and a pleasure to visit, the staff as always are friendly, and always there to help, I will come to eat here now as I feel the Brewery has at last, opened their eyes and seen a revamp was necessary. Not been since refurbished so decided to try for lunch. First impressions are that the exterior looks clean and fresh with new windows. On entering it looks much more spacious with less tables and also looked clean and bright. My wife ordered scampi and chips and I chose the carvery. I picked the beef and was served two large slices which covered half of the plate. The vegetables were hot, fresh and tasty with a good choice including roast and mashed potatoes, carrots, broccoli, peas, sweetcorn and onions. My wife received a good portion of scampi along with chips and peas which arrived shortly after I sat down with the carvery! Both meals were tasty, fresh and enjoyable. We both had a J2O and the bill came to just over £19. The staff were all polite and friendly and we left feeling happy and satisfied. Considering the last time we were here this place is unrecognisable from what we experienced on our last visit. Let’s hope that they maintain current standards and put the Gamecock back to the level where it used to be!

Went with a friend for lunch late July 2019 and pleasantly surprised by the new decoration and refurbishment. although the price was slightly more than we used to pay the food was good and the place looked much improved. Excellent service; no waiting around at all. Disappointed though that yet again the ice cream machine wasn't working.

Called in at lunch but didn’t want a lot to eat, so we only had a starter each and shared at some chips.

We went for lunch, The young staff were lovely but they were serving very poor quality food, not sure where the £200,000 + has been spent but certainly not on the food preparation. It was not good. chips were very cheap scrappy ones, orders were wrong and food preparation not up to much, when there was green on my plate and no food I ordered was green ? we did complain, but all we got was a sorry !!!! not somewhere I will visit again..

It's been re done recently but that's about it... Last three times we went it's bee a waste of money once they said it was an electrical fault why they had no food left chef told us some idiot didn't order enough food. Second time all the card readers went down told everyone no more food being served. Last time waited 30 minutes for them to restock the over cooked vedge just gave up walked out... Piss poor looks cleaner that's about it go hyndburn Bridge it's much nicer
