The Fox Covert in Stockton-on-Tees

It’s and old school place with great food done well. I always go there when in the area. Thanks abbey for the great service and I recommend anyone going to have the mince and dumplings - it’s epic

We came here for Sunday lunch on the recommendation of a friend. It was everything she had promised it would be. The service was excellent, friendly and attentive without being overly attentive. The food was lovely and came quite quickly after we ordered it. The prices were reasonable and the overall bill came as a pleasant surprise. We had two courses each and wine and it didn't break the bank. The food was hot and well cooked and there was plenty of it. We all managed to clear our plates though. Would definitely go back again if we were in the area.

Looked at the reviews before coming and wasn’t sure what to expect but pleasantly surprised at how lovely the food was for the price! Had a chicken parmo and corned beef pie and both were amazing with generous portion sizes! The chips looked to be twice cooked and so good! We will be back

Haven't been for ages but as good as ever. Went on a lunchtime glad we were there early as most of the tables had been taken. Food was lovely, didn't have to wait too long either. The gentleman that served our drinks and food was very friendly and accommodating. Will defo be back.

We had a great experience here. The pub was beautifully decorated for Christmas and was cosy and inviting. There were very few tables left but we managed to get one of the doggy tables near the bar which was perfect for our little dog! The staff were very busy but pleasant and helpful. We chose turkey from the Christmas menu which was lovely and piping hot. Quality food and reasonably priced. Thank you - it was a nice start to our weekend break.

A large group of 17 attended The Fox on a Monday night. We normally get together 2 or 3 times a year to meet up and chat over old times. The team at the pub are amazing, our food orders are booked in advanced and there are never any issues. The staff and service are always excellent,especially for such a big party. The food on this occasion was excellent, everyone commenting on how much they enjoyed it so a big thank you to the Chef and all of the team at The Fox Covert, looking forward to our next visit.

Staff rude, you would not think that without customers the place would close. The saving of the Fox Covert is the amazing food which is always fresh, very tasty and good value for money with good portion size.

I have reviewed fox covert many times always given great reviews but today 2 meals with beef was disappointing meat tough you pay good money for bedf and ‘sorry I will tell chef doesn’t cut it’ especially when we heard 2 other customers saying same thing. Cannot fault service or anything else but very disappointed

Popular food pub between Yarm and Ingleby Barwick. Parking. Usual pub food offerings ( parmo, pasta) and interesting firecracker salmon. All adequate, but nothing special.

Booked a table, arrived to meet a girl behind a laptop. Didn’t get up, just pointed and said your table is over there and we weren’t the only ones. No service with a smile from restaurant staff but bar staff were great. Nice range of beers and wines, lovely ambience otherwise I would have rated this 1*. Food was average at best. Maybe our expectations are higher but in today’s world of money being tight and treats being rare I expected more from The Fox Covet.

Absolutely amazing meal for my dads birthday. Not many places which serve a traditional home made mince and dumplings on their menu anymore! All of us thoroughly enjoyed our food. Gorgeous little pub and very friendly staff. Food was quick and service was great. Will definitely be returning.

Excellent meal at The Fox Covert, we had two courses with drinks including steak and the cost was £70 plus tip. Steak was perfect for me and my wife had a starter as a main course with some side dishes as well. Couldn't manage a pudding as the first two courses were very filling. Wish I had taken pictures of the meals and would definitely go back.

Fantastic pub. Brilliant atmosphere. Superb food, tasty,well cooked and hot. Friendly staff nothing too much trouble and always smiling, courteous and friendly . Good selection of beers. Worth booking a table, although they do their best to accommodate you.

Not all disability is visible. I have difficulty standing for long persuading. Josh was so understanding and organised chairs for me and my husband so we could see the singer who was fabulous. He really went the extra mile. The food was great but the portions are huge. Thank you josh for all your care and understanding.

Booked for the restaurant 20th for our anniversary, when we arrived we were told that there was a function in the restaurant, and we couldn't sit in there, no one bothered to phone me. For their short term gain the long term custom of myself and my family has been lost. Thanks again Fox Covert for nothing. This is the second time they have done this to me.

We had a table booked waited to be seated no one came so went to the bar, we were then seated and waited for a menu no one brought we found one on another table a second later we where asked if we would like to order said no as we had just found a menu. When the food came the veg and chips I would say were warmed up and not at all fresh. We gave this a second chance but won’t be going back.

Good quality, quickly served traditional pub food. It was busy that night amidst lockdown nonetheless service was great. I had mincemeat with mash and vegetables. My husband had fish an chips. Both were delicious. Only one criticism is the gravy on my mincemeat was a bit tastier than I would have liked it. I offset it with the vegetables which were quite bland.

Had a lovely evening in the Fox covert, service and food was excellent. The COVID-19 precautions taken by the venue and staff made us feel safe and relaxed. Between us we had three dishes, the mince and dumplings, large lasagne, and a corned beef pie. All three were of the highest standard and we thoroughly enjoyed it. The staff were really good throughout and the table were separated well so no close contact with others. Will return as soon as it is possible

After travelling back from a visit to Chester Zoo on Friday we called into the Fox covert to see if they could fit four of us in, they said they could but for a limited time as they were nearly fully booked. We were glad that they did, the service was excellent and the food was even better. We would highly recommend a visit to this little gem of a pub.

Was greeted at the door and seated. Signs everywhere explaining the rules regarding masks and table service only. Even a sign saying to stay away from the bar. The QR code we were given didn't work. The staff member seemed upset at this as if somehow we were to blame and then without a word threw a book down on the table with a pen an walked away. Good job I've been in a few times so knew to fill it in. Waited a while for drinks (Two Pints). There was only four other people in the pub. Two lads sat outside who had to come in to the bar to get someone to take their order despite it being table service only. They'd also been sat there a while. Whilst having a drink one man walked in, no mask. Was asked to take a seat, at no point was he asked to put one on. About ten minutes later another man walked in with no mask. Didn't wait to be seated. Proceeded to walk to the bar and then get served at the bar as he joked with the barman about not wearing a mask and ironically give reasons for why the virus spreads. When questioning the barman about why that was okay he said he delivers the coffee??? This clearly makes him COVID safe obviously. At no point were either asked to scan the barcode, fill in the book or wear a mask when moving around.Over all really disappointing. For a place I have visited regularly with friends an family and one that apparently prides itself on its COVID standards it was an absolute joke. Won't be rushing to return.I'm not virus crazy or particularly worried, but rules are there to avoid it spreading and further lockdowns.

Checked in after using hand sanitiser and were taken to a table in the restaurant. Asked to leave a contact name and number. All the tables have been changed so that they are socially distanced.I ordered my usual small chicken Parmo. The parmo and salad were very good, but they have either changed supplier or the cooking oil as the chips were not as nice as usual. The chips used to be lovely, crisp and brown, a bit disappointing.

We were at Fox covert yesterday evening the meal was excellent would recommend it highly ,staff were friendly every thing in place for social distancing we are diffidently going again give this restaurant 10/10

Visited as part of the "Eat Out To Help. out" scheme. All the staff were very friendly and took the time to make conversations with us. The food was faultless, lovely home cooked food, good portion size and nicely presented with a great choice.. Atmosphere is lovely, lots of olde world charm with beamed ceilings.It was our first time here but we will definitely be back.

Went on 25 August with friends whom we had recommended, service appalling had to repeatedly ask for cutlery, condiments and dessert menu (twice) and then had to approach servers as we were left without contact until I had to again approach staff for service. We have been on several occasions and had many Sunday lunches without complaint however will no longer recommend after this experience. Food was particularly land and one main course was forgotten by staff.

Managed to get a table without reservation although they were busy due to eat out to help out. We visited the fox Fox Covert with our grandchildren for lunch. The restaurant is well laid out and nicely decorated and immaculately clean with all of the Covid 19 precautions in place. The staff were all friendly and polite and we were served promptly. The menu was varied and when our food arrived it was piping hot and delicious. I tried the Parmo which was the tastiest I’ve had, the chunky chips were moresome and salad dressed nicely. We could hardly face a desert but the rubarb and apple crumble was irresistible and didn’t disappoint. All 4 of us thoroughly enjoyed our meals and we will definitely be having a return visit.

We are a family of 6 and paid a visit it was very busy which is usually a good sign.Service was polite and friendly, and we didn't have to wait too long considering how busy it was. The food was good, we had 4 adult meals and 2 children's meals all were enjoyed.

Unbelievable poor staffing levels resulting in 2 hour wait for some food arriving... many people leaving after an hour of no service! Poor staff doing their best, having to take grief for poor management rostering.

I have just had one of the worst experiences of eating out. I rang to make a booking for Sunday lunch was assured that if I took a table at 4pm we could be served Sunday lunch. Staff assured me on the telephone we serve till 5 and it will still be available Had I known this was not the case I would of gone somewhere where it was It was not they had sold out at 3 15 pm so we had to choose from the menu The food took over an hour to arrive I asked staff after 45mins was told all cooked from fresh and would be another 15mins.When it finally arrived so did the wasps and the flies Even the cleaner doing the tables said she wouldn’t have it and was going to tell the manager we were batting them away from the food desserts made matters worst .The pub was full very warm and windows open All in All 52 pounds paying for food we didn’t really want and waiting forever to fight the flies for it. I will Never go back there ever

Just had the my birthday meal in the Fox with my family. The food was fantastic. My wife had the chicken curry, my son had the fish and chips and I had the Parmo. Would recommend the food.
