Have been before about twice in the last year I am now so disappointed. It was very quiet but I still had to clear crockery away in the bar area on the table we wanted to be seated at, this had been left by a previous customer, it was obvious the table needed clearing. Did not like the fact that there was no tab facility & both drinks & food had to be pre-paid in our case separately as we did not want to rush our menu choice. Therefore, taking the enjoyment out of table service. Covid is not an excuse for this as other pubs serve at the table.Buttermilk Chicken Burger with a spiced mayonnaise outlined on the menu had the tiniest amount on it when raising the issue it was met with some bemusement by the member of staff. it was literally not existent. The Burger was over-done, the breadcrumb coating was definitely over-cooked & had become hard, the chicken inside was very try, bordering on tough. Buttermilk Chicken should be very soft & breadcrumb coating of a golden colour. I had the same at another restaurant last week & it was perfect in every way. The table had 2 salt and no pepper so the table had not been set up properly in the first place. When the plates were eventually collected there was no question of whether we had enjoyed our meal, instead there was an overall lack of interest, not any enthusiasm in serving the customer(s). The serving of drinks was good though. If I was asked why I had not raised the issue with the chicken whilst I was there, having raised the mayonnaise issue I felt that I would have received the same uninterested response.

Disappointed to say the least. The first item ordered they did not have, and when the food ordered was delivered to the table of 12, one of the items order was not delivered to the table. After waiting ages for the missing item, a Margherita for my Granddaughter, we had to return to the bar who argued that that the Pizza was not ordered, which we proved to be incorrect. No apology was immediately forthcoming until we asked for an apology, and a member of the staff could only be described as offhand, and unhelpful. The Pizza eventually arrived after all of us had finished eating our meal, and the Manager asked what we wanted to do about it, and our reply was to at least provide a refund for the long awaited Pizza, which was given, and the Manager eventually apologised.

Timing is everything. Sunday mornings, even as the winter closes in, are busy in this delightful corner of the Home Counties. Dog walkers, park runners, adventurous tourists, and lots of locals. This place isn’t a well hidden secret, so don’t come late if you want a decent table and prompt service.Yes, I’m a little smug because we got it spot on last Sunday. I couldn’t resist a full English in this most English of locations - not very far from the back door to Windsor Castle and the front door of Frogmore House. Two perfectly cooked pork sausages, a couple rashers of bacon, a lovely big portobello mushroom, 2 fried eggs cooked perfectly, a pot of baked beans and a lovely doorstop piece of toast. My date had the scrambled eggs with smoked salmon, and that looked like a generous serving too. Coffee was good, tea less so, but all in all, a perfect place for a quintessentially English breakfast

Nice enough meal and ambience but no one speaks english. This is meant to be an english pub.Hard to understand as it appears that the majority of staff working here are not englishThe downsides are that we were charged £18 on our bill for service charge automatically with no discussion which i find extortianate

I took my son and his friend there for a late meal. They were one hour from closing time. The food was dreadful. I would not serve it to my cat. The staff were uninterested in giving any sort of decent service. The location and building itself are charming and I know it is popular with the locals. I suspect that if you limit yourself to a beer there, you will be fine. For food, you will be infinitely better off buying a Charlie Binghams frozen meal at Waitrose.

I really like going to the F&H and I always take visiting friends/family there. The food is great, the pizzas are ridiculously good, I wish they did deliveries although if they did I would be eating them all the time so maybe its a good thing they don't. The staff are always really friendly and the atmosphere is really nice. The outdoor seating area is great and there's places for horses to munch on hay and have a drink so in the nice weather it can be really lovely. I think it's very reasonably priced, especially as it's so close to London. As a local, I know some really nice pubs in the area but ranking-wise, this one is in my top 3.

Had a really nice lunch here. The Pizza was as good as any good Italian restaurant and the Caesar Salad was the best I have had in any restaurant. The chips were to die for. Worthy of note was our server Jake. A young man who went out of his way to deliver the highest possible service. We watched him getting cushions for some customers, asking everyone if their meal was to their satisfaction and washing his hands between cleaning tables. We will certainly be returning here with more of our friends to enjoy this venue’s hospitality.

We wanted a place to eat close to Great Windsor Park and came across this fabulous place on line. We hadn't booked as we had seen on their website it was a "first come first served" basis for outdoor eating. We were met by their really fabulously friendly staff, showed to a table in the shade (it was an incredibly hot day), we had arrived early to ensure we had a table and the kitchen was at the time not open for lunch, no problem, drinks ordered and we sat relaxing. Menu is varied and will accommodate every palate and dietary requirement. There is also a specials menu. Food was lovely, ordered, arrived in time and tasted great. The Fox and Hound is impeccably clean, toilets clean and tidy. The staff are amazing, a great team and an amazing asset to the place.Thank you for a great relaxing and tasty lunch

One of the best roast meals I've had in pub. Spacious and pleasant inside, good service. Only downside at present is parking as the car park is closed and the council have double-yellowed the lines for miles around. There is parking outside the pub on the road but it's limited at busy times.

Booked here (I think essential in these times) for a late lunch following a walk in the Great Park. Well placed table with plenty of separation with other diners. Very good menu and an impressive array of specials. Good wine list with something for all tastes and budgets. Service prompt and friendly with being overbearing. All of the party (4 of us) were pleased with our menu choices - very filling mains - resisted desserts! Can see how car parking could be a challenge; perhaps we were lucky,

Tucked away up from Egham / Englefield Green on the edge of Windsor Park we are really looking forward to when The Fox can fully reopen without any Covid restrictions as we want to become regulars. Service is friendly, food is great value for money and the take away Pizzas are much better than any of the chain operators in the area. Visited with partner for the first time for a sit down meal as now allowed to dine in. The service provided was terrible; as well as the actual quality of the food being poor. Further more any specific food requests were not met and i was made to feel as if i was being ‘awkward’. Considering the price of food and service at this establishment i expect my requests to be met! Asked for my steak to be very well done as pregnant and obviously cannot eat raw meat; it came out medium not well done at all! Asked whether the mayonnaise was homemade or not (as again cannot eat raw egg due to being pregnant) was told i would be informed and was simply not provided with an answer at all. We are willing to pay such high prices if the food and service provided matches the extortionate prices but unfortunately neither the service or food met the cost. I will never be visiting this establishment again.

This used to be a great pub, with a great chef and a top manager. Just find it unwelcoming now, dirty tables, indifferent staff. It’s in a great position and has a nice garden out the front, which they have improved over the years. It is very popular in the summer and still attracts well heeled locals, but it sorely needs to buck up customer service; everyone should be welcome, not just the owner’s pals. Won’t be rushing back.

Had a table for two booked here for dinner (which was extremely easy to email and arrange). Spacious restaurant with obvious accommodations for Covid-19 restrictions; complimentary hand sanitiser, explanatory signs clearly displayed, and all staff wore face coverings. Started with the ciabatta and olives while we decided on our mains, delicious bread I must say! Unfortunately the pork belly had sold out, but we were only too happy with the braised lamb shank in lieu. Compliments to the chefs. They clearly know what they’re doing. Front of house team were all friendly and efficient, I was more than happy to pay the 12.5% service automatically added to the bill. They do state clearly that this is NOT compulsory, and would obligingly remove if requested. That said, personally I think it’s the least we can all do to show our support to an under-appreciated industry, particularly during this unprecedented pandemic!Whilst being a little more expensive than your average country pub restaurant, the prices are more than reasonable for the quality of food (and sizeable portions). Will definitely be returning for another pleasurable evening. My thanks to both kitchen and FOH teams!

I used to visit the Fox & Hounds regularly, however after an extremely poor experience this weekend, I will not be visiting again in future. My parter ordered a burger which came out completely red inside with juices running from it. We never normally send food back, but on this occasion we asked the waiter if the chef could cook it for a bit longer so it wasn't red. It came back a second time and was still pink and they refused to do any more about it. Even high quality burgers should not be served like this due to the bacteria inside the mince meat! Not only was i disappointed by the service, the customer service we received was shocking. Do not visit this pub.

I phoned this restaurant to see what the rules were around stopping to have a drink given Covid 19. We were told to just come as outdoor seating was first come first served. When we arrived we went in the flow system and a woman yelled at us ‘you ok you ok’ we stopped and said yes thanks then nothing. Another staff member said ‘hey guys we will clear this table for you’ she started clearing it then stopped. Another group arrived behind us and the first woman who had yelled went to serve them saying she would clear this table for them and that we had said we were fine even though we were clearly waiting for a table. No apology, no checking in just ignoring. It was incredibly rude. There was an old man who just stood around outside watching all this - maybe the owner he just watched all of this and let it happen even though this staff member was so rude. In the end one of the younger members of staff finished clearing and disinfecting the table and was really nice. This could be a nice place but the rudeness of this lady was awful and we would not go back.

The number of tables have been reduced (compared to pre-Covid-19) and there was a waiting list. We were asked to provide our names and phone number for track & trace.Drinks and food are to be ordered inside, where masks are recommended, and there is a one-way walking system to order at the bar. We were called shortly thereafter from the waiting list and shown to our table. All tables outside are quite far from each other and being at a distance from anyone felt secure in these odd times. After s great lunch experience for 2 early in September I felt confident in booking a table for 4 a couple of weeks later. On arrival we were told wait there I'll be right with you, after which we were left standing until another staff member assisted us. The table was nice. Ordered main meals only which after 30 minutes wait we were told 3 were ready but the pizza order had been taken by another waitress. We were over halfway through our meals when the pizza arrived. The fried chicken was very overcooked/burnt and the pizzas - 2 ordered - had black burnt crusts. Then 2 of our party ordered desserts. Sticky toffee pudding which came in a lovely cast iron pot but was stone cold. The apple crumble was a disaster, huge chunks of hard apple, sour and the crumble was raw. Considering the cost, £64 with no alcohol ordered, it was not what one would expect from a good eaterie. Won't be returning.

6 of us visited for lunch on Sunday. It was busy but not heaving. The inside of the pub is nicely decorated and seemed clean and tidy. It was a warm day so we were lucky enough to get a table outside which was lovely. That was where the loveliness ended unfortunately. The service was incredibly slow and, while we don't want to be rushed, it was just too slow. We waited 45 mins for our starter. We ordered drinks that didn't arrive and had to be reordered, and when we asked for condiments the waitress went away to get them and never came back. Starters were perfect. Chicken wings, honey mustard cocktail sausages and Edamame beans. No complaints there. Main course was really disappointing. The Fox Fried chicken looked delicious but was absolutely dripping in grease. No one wants dry chicken but there was a pool of fat on the plate and it was running from the chicken. The burger was a perfect choice. The Sunday roast was underwhelming. It wasn't hot and the potatoes we like tiny, hard, dry, bullets. The beef was very tasty but not enough to compensate for the rest of the meal. My son and daughter in law have visited many times and said they have never known it to be so bad. I would try again as the pizza looked and smelled amazing, however, first impressions were a real let down.

This seems a most convenient place to pick up a drink and a bite for a picnic in Windsor Great Park and not only during the first week after lockdown. The bar service was friendly and efficient, everything looked clean and well-looked after and the latte was as good as any from a traditionally cafe. The clincher was the rather yummy sourdough loaf that looked so enticing on the bar that we just had to buy it. I love the fact that you could tie up your horse in front and pop in for a quick pint. I assume it will be massively crowded on “normal” weekends. My friend and I went on the first Saturday after it was officially allowed to meet up with another person and it was getting pretty busy at around 1pm when we left. There are parking spaces in front and along the road but those were all full too. And don’t try to drive back on Bishopsgate Road! It’s narrow and will be full with cars driving TO the park gate. Take Crimp Hill instead.

What a dramatic fall from grace! The Fox and Hounds has gone from gastro to gastric in the blink of an eye, under new, clearly disastrous management/ownership. As our local haunt, we have made 3 recent visits - and each time it gets worse. My pizza was cremated, the vegetables swim in oil, the 'Brazilian' steak was like shoe leather and the prices are the same as when this was the only credible gastro pub in the area. I can only hope that the Coronavirus crisis prompts a complete rethink. The charismatic waiting staff are clearly embarrassed by the unappetising gruel they are forced to deliver to their customers. We haven’t been here for a while but decided to take the kids for a late Sunday lunch. As always love the atmosphere and busy. We ordered starters and mains. The kids had the spicy calamari which was nice. My wife and I had the pea and mint soup which was bland and not the cosy bowl of soup we were hoping on. We then ordered a pizza from the kids menu for my daughter and the sausage and mash for my son. Daughters pizza huge and really good. Son was not too impressed with sausage and mash as it came out cold. My wife ordered the roast chicken and I the roast lamb. When the food arrived we were asked for any sauces which we said ketchup for the kids and mint sauce for the lamb. After waiting 6-7 minutes I asked again for the sauces as the food started to cool down, as the plates were cold. My lamb was very fatty and had to search for the gravy and potatoes and my wife’s chicken was raw with blood running out of it. We politely pointed this out and the manager acted well and took the plate and offered another plate of food. By then myself and the children had finished our food so my wife didn’t want to start eating on her own. The manager took care of the chicken off the bill. Once we asked for the bill it took 12 minutes for someone to come and take payment. We were also charged 12% for service and it is not a cheap place to eat.. I felt the service was poor and not attentive at all. Food sent out raw is unacceptable and deserves a zero rating for and the other food was just ok at best. Really disappointed and won’t be going back.

Not as good as it should be, fantastic location but menu lacking in originality and the main room was too brightly lit. Shame cos I remember it fondly from years ago.

We have booked the dining room in the Fox and Hounds for the past few years it has always been an enjoyable evening with welcoming staff and good food. This year, unfortunately the experience was nowhere near the same. When we arrived and were having a drink a rather blunt speaking waiter came over making some weird jokes and comments about us being a few minutes late. When he took us to the table we were not informed of any specials and just gave us the menus stating the kitchen is closing at 20:30.

We have visited the Fox and Hounds twice and both times have left disappointed and without the hot drink we wanted. The first time was about 3 years ago when the pub shut at 5pm for 'staff training' and we just wanted a cup of tea. But the reason for writing this negative review comes from the Friday after Christmas when we (my family of 6) arrived after a walk in Windsor Great Park, at around 1.15, hoping for a coffee or hot chocolate and were told "no hot drinks of any kind" because 'the machine is broken'. Apparently they didn't even have a kettle.

A lovely pub on the edge of the great park. We have visited a few times in December, for breakfast, and fiund the food to be very tasty. They have a good selection of options for breakfast, whether it be full English, croissants or simply coffee/tea they seem to hit the mark. Vegetarian options are available too

Been here with the same group for many years now after xmas and loved it but this was a different place and must have changed hands. They wanted to restrict table times to 1.5 hours and the service was amateurish and the food mediocre. The final straw was when the emergency exit was opened next to us without consultation and we had a 90 year old with us. Never again.

Met some friends here as it is a lovely and convenient dog friendly location. It was a struggle to get seated in the bar as was very busy (Sunday) but managed eventually. It was slightly less busy by around 1.15.

I have booked the dining room in the Fox and Hounds for the past five years for our works Christmas meal. In previous years it has always been an enjoyable evening with welcoming staff and good food. This year, unfortunately the experience was nowhere near the same. The food was mediocre and the staff were not attentive. After paying the bill we decided to go to the bar for another drink to be told the bar was closed, considering it was only 10:15, I find this very strange. A place that used to be good has gone very down hill and sadly we will not be returning.

It’s a pity they’ve messed about with what was always the best breakfast around, taken away beans or any option of beans, and what tomatoes that are still served with it are not enough to balance out something that is now too dry

Food is generally good and it is certainly an highmarket pub. The location is suberb, just on the sides of Windsor Great Park and an optimal starting point for a nice walk after lunch or for a beer afterwards. This time around we had a working lunch and food was generally good. Service is fun if you are on the same cords of the waiter who likes to makes jokes and be friendly. So do not expect a detached type of service.

I went for a long walk with my wife through Windsor Great Park last Sunday before lunch finishing up at Bishops Gate Road where the Fox & Hounds is We hadn't planned on going for a drink, but went in there for a couple of drinks etc The pub section was very busy, but we were able to find comfortable arm chairs & a table for two. This was a lovely way to end the morning, enjoying the rest & drinks before continuing our walk. I would definitely recommend this place for food or just a social drink. .

Having eaten at the F & H quite frequently over the years, it's always been a decent dining experience. So I had no hesitation in recommending it for a gathering of old friends. All started well - we had a drink at the bar before heading to the dining room. We were duly settled and provided with menus. The affable waiter also ran through the specials so we duly ordered our starters and mains. It soon became apparent that not everything was available, so we altered our choices accordingly. He headed off to the kitchen, only to return a few minutes later to inform that most of the main dishes that we had ordered were now not available. It seemed that there had been a run on the monkfish, but he offered salmon instead. He also said it could be offered with a choice of different potatoes. OK, these things can happen. We chose a bottle of wine to accompany the mains. Five minutes later, another waiter rocks up to inform us that the wine we've selected is also not available... We joked that nothing appeared to be in stock... He didn't appear amused. Fortunately, our second choice was delivered.

We’ve eaten here a lot over the years and my how it’s gone downhill! Me and my husband both had the fillet steak and they both had to go back as they were overcooked which then meant we ate our meal when the rest of the table had finished theirs! No presentation at all it was a lump of meat with half a mushroom and a mound of oven chips! I’m sorry but for £29 I at least expect proper chips! This place used to be fab but it’s not anymore! On a plus tho the staff are great and the service was very good!

We went to the Fox & Hounds restaurant with our youngest son & grandson for lunch last Saturday 12th Oct. The food & service was superb. The restaurant is very comfortable with tables not being too close together., with three separate sections including a conservatory plus a really nice bar area. They have a car park , but it was full, so we had to use the lay by outside, which had plenty of spaces. Will definitely return, but probably for dinner next time. .

We normally sit in the bar area for snacks and drinks but this is the first time we sat in the restaurant area. Our waiter Scot was very efficient, professional and friendly without being intrusive. Starters were plentiful and extremely good. The only criticism we would have is the vegetables were very sparse on the Sunday Lunch. It would have been nice to have a separate dish of steamed vegetables like other pubs/restaurants.

I went for a dinner with my partner, Very poor service, from the wine till the dessert waiter who never did this job ( but he has no fault, I think the fault was of the management, they didn’t train the staff) , ordered a £60 cote de boeuf to share with my partner, the waiter didn’t asked how I would like cooked, full of fat , chewy, the sauce cold, the dessert was a orange panna cotta but very far to , a bill of £160 , with a bottle of Montepulciano, I will never back again.

We stopped for a leisurely lunch while taking a long walk around Windsor Great Park and the surrounding area. The pub has bar and restaurant areas inside, but on a sunny July day it was a pleasure to sit in the garden area in front. It is very relaxing (although the furniture could be a bit more up to date and comfortable), and they even cater for horses!

We ate here with a family for a lunch on Sunday. As you can imagine, pub was very busy , staff were helpful and polite, but the food was pretty average at best. I had beer battered fish and chips. Without question the worst I have ever had. Another in our group had the same and left most on the plate. the fish was rubbery with more batter than actual fish. we spent £400 on the meal and drinks and to be honest, an absolute waste of money.. 2 in our group had the roast and said it was good. the bill was presented and we were rushed to settle it and leave without being able to speak to the manager.

The Armstrong Gunlocation-icon49 Victoria StreetBritish

The good news- the Gun has made tremendous efforts to meet Covid requirements and keep everyone safe. The bad news- it’s really difficult to order a beer. The pub is insisting you use a new App system, which means typing your life history just to order a beer. One slight mistake, and your order doesn’t go thru. Several friends haven’t been able to get the app to work. There can be several staff at the bar, but they won’t take a simple order. As things stand at the moment- avoid the place. Much better service at the Happy Man.
