The Fox and Hounds in Chichester

We have eaten here many times and had wonderful food but on Mother’s Day we were really disappointed. Firstly we were a table of 8 squashed in between the toilets in the bar when we expected to be in the restaurant so that was disappointing to begin with. Then when our food arrived it was ok but the roast potatoes were terrible, they were badly over cooked so no fluffy potato inside. Also not sure why stuffing is served with roast beef. I’ve had much better roast dinners here previously so I’m not sure what went wrong. I would also suggest that they tell you when you book that you’re not going to be in the restaurant so you can make a choice whether to book or not. It’s just not pleasant trying to have a family meal in between the ladies and the gents plus not enough room for all the plates on the table when there are 8 of you. Sorry but will think twice before going back for a Sunday lunch.

All I will say is that I hope this pub gets new management in the not too distant future. It is a shame because decor is lovely.

Early New Year's Eve dinner. Exellent food, but perhaps not the best day to make a first visit as the pub was predictably busy with NYE revellers! Recommended as a proper pub with a good menu at a reasonable price. Plenty of dog-friendly seating, with a separate 'restaurant' area.

We were staying at the nearby Ashling Park Estate for a family birthday and thought a pub meal one night would be fun. We decided on the Fox and Hounds who were so helpful in allocating us a round table for 8 (I love round tables!) and were also friendly and efficient on the phone - thank you Alice! On arrival, the pub was really busy and had a proper front bar where people were enjoying just a beer, or two. The table was perfect. Service was prompt and we all enjoyed our meals - selection of pies, sausage and mash, burgers, fish and chips. And a real treat for M and me - calves liver with bacon, bubble and squeak and gravy, cooked to perfection. Puddings were equally enjoyable. A great start to the weekend. Thank you, Fox and Hounds.

Unfortunately it was an underwhelming dining experience. We were glamping nearby and thought it would be nice to have dinner here. While the service was friendly our server didn't write our order down and so our childrens starters were missed off the order. When I politely reminded them, they did resolve this and bring it something for the kids, but by then my wife and I had finished our starters and what they brought out was wrong. We didn't complain because no one wanted to come back and see how we were getting on. Finally our mains arrived and the fish and chips that several of us ordered fell well short of the mark. When ordering we asked and were told that the fish was Haddock (as it is not stated on the menu). I really don't believe this as the fish lacked any flavour whatsoever. I am certain it was a cheaper fish like pollock or whiting. It was also incredibly greasy and gave me terrible indigestion for the remainder of the evening. In my opinion, writing the order down, asking people what they think of the meal and using decent ingredients are the foundation of running a good restaurant? I doesn't matter how good it looks if you miss things off the order or the food tastes of nothing... I won't be dining here again.

Great pub with good beer and friendly helpful staff but the menu is dull and needs originality. My partner had a very good veg burger but wonders why this is every pubs’ solution to vegetarian food. My meat pie, mashed potatoes and veg all tasted pre packed

What a fabulous time everyone had at our pre-wedding dinner for 20 in the function room at the Fox & Hounds! The room was so beautifully decorated - it had real 'wow factor' as people entered. The food was also really delicious and service was attentive and friendly. Please pass on our compliments to the chef and other staff. Thank you so much.

Stopped in for a lunchtime drink and was surprised at the Gluten Free options on the menu. A great selection of starters, mains and sweets to choose from. Opted for the GF fish and chips with mushy peas. Absolutely the best I’ve had in 20 years of being Coeliac. Would highly recommend
