Excellent menu freshly home cooked food friendly and helpful staff

We came as a party of x4 this afternoon. Upon walking into the pub , well this had changed tremendously since we had been just prior to covid... nowhere to have a drink as all the tables were seated for diner's. To go in just for a pint... well a no go.And a Sunday roast was what we came for and to be told that at 1.15 pm they had run out of roasts was just awfull. No apologies, just a reply of"mad isn't it that we have run out, in the 20 odd years I've been here ,never happened before!!" The lady was not even wanting to hear what we had to say , just wanted us to pay and go. It just went over her head,soo blasé! One if our party has a walking aid and was getting knocked into left right and center,so not a disable friendly place. Shall not be returning

We had a table booked for 4 people on Sunday at 2.15 pm. We checked in at around 1.45 pm. Bought drinks at bar, awaiting our table. No where to sit, so as I use walking aids we sat outside for 15 mins as I was getting pushed & shoved in bar. When we went back inside & asked if our table was ready we were told it was given to someone else (who'd booked for 2.30pm) as they couldn't find us! It was only 2.05 pm at this point. We were told no Sunday roasts left! They'd actually ran out at 1.15pm (they start food at 12!). A nice Sunday roast is what we came out for to celebrate our birthdays. The only food available was that on the specials boards. But we were told they had plenty of roast potatoes which we could have with anything 🤣. Our food was nice, but not at all what we'd come out for. To be honest, for what was on the specials boards & the prices charged, I would have gone some place else (One of the deserts & meals had both gone off the board by the time we'd left). So, we just had one drink each & main meal & left. Upon leaving I asked why at the least there was not a sign on the chalk board outside stating "no Sunday roasts left" - I was told "I have no time to do that!" I also queried the fact that our table had initially been given to others that had booked for 2.30?! Nothing of what I'd said was taken in - it all just went right over the ladies head - she was not bothered or interested in listening. Apparently they'd never ran out of roasts like that before! Needless to say - four very disappointed customers whom will not be returning after that experience. Also, it is not a disabled friendly pub.

Lovely Sunday roast. Roast lamb and 5 veg, lots of gravy. Good portion and nice and hot. The crumble I had to send back as it was not cooked but a replacement was soon brought back and was hot and delicious.

Excellent ..Good food nice ambiance good service well worth a visit

Outstanding British Pub atmosphere and staff making it as pleasant as they can. Food choices are very wide with specials too. All very big which is not to everyone's liking. They welcomed starter and pudding served as main and pudding without fuss. Busy and popular so best to book ahead IMO. If I were to change anything it would be more padding on the chairs... Well done to team and will go again.

It is exactly what a pub should be , lovely landlady, good food , friendly happy service and a great " Pub" atmosphere. Oh yes and the prices are fair . Simples !

Lived locally for 7yrs and never visited The Fox until tonight, and now I’m kicking myself for not going sooner! Food was delicious, reasonably priced and good portion sizes, and the staff were incredibly welcoming too! Thank you for the service and we’ll be back again very soon!

Very qood, quick service. Food good, everyone enjoyed their meals. Perhaps another vegetarian/vegan option would be useful as a choice of 2 (lasagne and halloumi) limits choice.

Great, tasty food and gut-busting portions at a pocket pleasing price. Walking distance from our campsite. Would've got 5* but they'd run out of skinny fries...

Proper pub food. Friendly staff. We had chicken and beef burgers, salmon, ham egg and chips and fish cakes. Would definitely recommend a visit.

Excellent sunday roast. We will come back to the pub.

I have eaten here a few times over the year, and everything I have had ( and seen on other tables ) is good, that's why I go there. BUT, do not have the S&K pud, it to me is a rip off, this last one had 1 small piece of kidney, a piece of grissle, an extra long piece of meat ( 2" ) held together by sinue and 2 small bits of meat. They do not have to make them like this for the price they charge. Even if they say it was a one off, I shall not take the risk again.

Went on chance for a snack lunch. Good car park and free Wi-fi. You find a table, order your food at one bar and then go to another for your drinks giving your table number. You pay when you have finished. Large menu with large range of choices. Pub very busy with mostly older groups. Food took a while but our ploughman’s and ham sandwich were very good.

We had a table for 12 people. The staff were excellent, Good food. Highly recommended.

The Fox in Small Dole. What an absolute great inn. Owner (Lynn) and staff very warm and welcoming. Visit three times in all and received same very high level of friendliness and service. Also enjoyed breakfast on Saturday morning. Thanks again.

Only had 10 mins before they would would stop serving.I had a turkey roast dinner and l must say it was the best roast dinner l have had out in a long time .Everything was fresh and hot, could not fault it and the staff are lovely.

This is a lovely little pub. The staff are polite, efficient and friendly. We've eaten here a few times, and the quality and presentation is always consistently good. The price is average and so is the portion size. I would recommend the pub as a place to eat.

Well,the prices were reasonable,but staff very slow. 15 mins seated,and no drinks order?? The food arrived pretty promptly but was frankly tasteless. Very mass produced and bland. My steak was not tender,and tasteless There were 5 of us in this family party, no one said they had enjoyed their food....

Sadly not as good as it used to be. Staff are lovely but the food didn't match the service.

Visited for the first time a couple of weeks after after being unwell over xmas it was so lovely to get out and enjoy a good meal! The pub looks quite modern outside but inside it has a really classic pub feel to it filled with locals on a Friday evening which was great to see! We each had the TFI burgers and they were fab! HUGE mind! I couldnt finish mine but still had room for chocolate cake desert! Both courses were great, affordable compared to some pubs in Horsham at the moment and Lynn the manager/assuming owner, was a pure delight, helpful, welcoming and informative! Looking forward to our return and working out way through the very classic, very British but fresh and home cooked menu! p.s - chips were the best chunky chips ive had in years!

I went to The Fox with my family for Sunday lunch and I was pleasantly surprised, the vegetables were lovely, freshly cooked, the nut roast was nice . Other people in our party had the pork, turkey and a burger, all very nice as well according to them. The staff here are very friendly and attentive. I will definitely go back again .

Great place, Excellent Food in everyway & Staff really nice, helpful & friendly looking forward to the next visit.

Friendly with good parking situated in the middle of the village. Road can be busy which makes the beer garden a bit noisy however inside is snug and comfortable. Enjoys a great reputation with the locals (always a good sign) with friendly staff and good food.

We live close-ish to the Fox and so have been there for an evening meal quite a few times over the years. The welcome is always happy and warm. The food is very tasty, freshly cooked, served in good time, and well presented. If you wonder whether to go there or to another pub for food in the area, I recommend the Fox because there, you cannot be disappointed.

Nice welcome super Harvey's bitter and decent Sunday lunch. The staff very friendly even though they were busy. Appeared to welcome lots of regulars so you know it must be a good place. One issue, had to wait a while for mustard apple sauce and horseradish. Perhaps have that on the tables 🤔 Thank you x

This was our first trip to the fox and we certainly will be visiting more frequently as we often stay at the near by campsite. Really welcoming and friendly staff and orders are taken at your table. The food was delicious,I ordered the roast and by far the best I’ve had,my husband had the lasagne which was equally as tasty. I had trifle as a dessert and it was presented so lovely I didn’t want to spoil it by eating it but glad I did as was full of fruit and custard. Will be booking a table again soon.

Great little pub in a nice village, plenty of walks in the woods and countryside near by, great landlady and staff, very friendly locals, great choice of food and drinks, with prices compatible to other places around if not better

We had our meals from the special menu and we were not disappointed in any way. Full marks to everyone for the wonderful service and cooking 😊

What a lovely pub/restaurant! Staff and landlady very welcoming. Super bar and outside seating area for a cheeky beer or wine (great selection available) and relaxed and secluded seating areas for a meal. This visit (not our first) was for a party of 5 adults. Food and service - 11 out of 10! Cannot thank you guys enough for a lovely fathers day early evening meal. Best place in small dole. Please visit and enjoy a super lunch or evening meal.

Sunday roast, awash with gravey. Beer ,a pint of Ghost ship, really that barrel should have been dead and buried a long time ago!

Lovely pub, home cooked food, friendly staff. We had roast beef which was tender and tasty and the banoffee pie was delicious.

Owner asked if it was my "traveller van" parked in "her car park" and what I was doing there. I only came for a drink after work. Very unfriendly with some rather obnoxious opinions. Won't be going back.

Lovely village pub, Friendly staff. Good service. Excellent food, Sunday roasts and sausage and mash in a yorkshire pudding were all delicious. We were able to take our time over lunch and not rushed at all. Definiately be back another day.

Visited the Fox again last night and it was every bit as good as our last visit. Lovely welcome, attentive, quick & personal service and really lovely food all round. Prawn Cocktails, Whitebait, Sussex Smokey and TFI burgers all very highly recommended. Really good wine selection and I would say with all the above really excellent value for money. Thank you Fox Team for a lovely evening out.

The man had sausage and mash, should have been in a giant Yorkshire which he didn't want so they kindly adapted the order and added fresh veg instead. I had tuna jacket potato with loads of homemade coleslaw and salad. Good size portions. Spying at other tables ... the dessert cheese 🧀 plate next time for me 😋

Nice little pub with parking. Haven't gone for years but fancied something between Xmas and New year. The menu had a good choice with several specials on the board. The two waitress' were very busy but did a good job looking after the tables. Food was cooked well and tasty and lots of it. Will definitely go back again.

Amazing wholesome proper home cooked food. I had the steak and kidney pudding, with mash and seasonal veg, treacle sponge and custard. Portion sizes are generous and the pricing is fair. A real friendly old style pub, I would definitely recommend a visit here. Booking is probably advisable as fairly busy, even on a lunch service.

Well kept pub with large car park. A few tables outside on the forecourt and inside a bar area plus restaurant with food being served in both as the food is the main draw here. Good menu of pub classics with a number of specials tending towards the "good old fashioned" and the clientele was predominantly more mature when we visited for lunch. Two of our group had the bacon roly-poly which they much enjoyed, apparently this features just once per month. Portions are hearty but some dishes such as ham egg and chips have small appetite options. Desserts include crumbles and treacle sponge continuing the theme. Well run pub with service most proficient indeed from pleasant staff. Good range of drinks, two real ales, Harveys and Adnams on our visit. Excellent value overall..
