What a beautiful pub and rooms. We stayed for the evening and had dinner in the restaurant. The atmosphere and service was excellent and the food, amazing. The room was comfortable and the roll top bath the icing on the cake. The breakfast was superb, plentiful hot and delicious. Great coffee too. Will be back!

We ate at the Fox on the 10/09/21 to celebrate our 42nd wedding anniversary. We ordered the 30 day dry cured Hampshire Cote De Boeuf x2 , which was delicious. However, the miserly portion of one portion of chips and one portion of green salad between 2 that came with meal was embarrassing and took the shine off the meal. Come on chiefs at the Fox salad and chips cost nothing.

What a lovely place to enjoy a meal. Quality service, quality food, quality building and quality location. You knew that as soon as the bread arrived, the rest. Of the food was going to be good. Our steak for two was delicious and tender, the chocolate cake dessert was perfect and the Malbec was a great choice/price. Terrific choice of draft beers also.

Staying in the village we booked The Fox for our first evening meal. The area is stunning and The Fox is architecturally beautiful. The bar area is cosy and the choice of local beers very good. Bar service was friendly and efficient. We were given menus while we waited and were at our table on time. The food was exceptional. I started with the potted shrimp and my wife a crab, prawn and avocado salad and we both had the brill as a mains. All washed down with a wonderful bottle of Albariño. We shared a huge cheeseboard, this was a memory to savour as well as a reminder how great eating out when as good as this is a joy. Great ambiance, quiet unfussy service and good food in one place is a pleasure.

My friend came to visit with her dog a few weeks ago and we decided to walk to The Fox for a spot of lunch with the pooches, after hearing amazing things about the food. We ended up staying for dinner as well - after sampling some of the delicious cocktails - and had the best day! The whole team there were so friendly and attentive and everyone made sure that the dogs felt very welcome with a big water bowl and lots of biscuits. We’d recommend this pub for the food, the drinks, the atmosphere, the decor, the location and most definitely for the cleanliness of the bathrooms which were literally gleaming!

We did visit a few years ago, and really enjoyed it but felt they needed to settle into a bit before returning. We had heard nothing but rave reviews from friends and family so booked a few weeks ago for a Saturday night supper. We had also seen the Chef owner on James Martins Saturday show so thought we might see James as well. The quality of the food was superb, grilled Scottish langoustines were like little lobsters and such a delight, the Cote de boeuf was melt in the mouth and the desserts were just as excellent, especially the trio of chocolate that looked like it could have been on Masterchef. Service was great, super friendly and spot on with lots of great knowledge. Will highly recommend to others. Did not see James but can see why this is his favourite pub for food.

With over a decade as a chef and many more in high end front of house establishments, I am a self confessed fussy snob. Being extremely knowledgeable about food/wine and how service should be its with great pleasure that I leave this review. As the title suggests, from start to finish it was outstanding. Organised staff were clearly trained and knowledgable about the food and service experience. The venue itself is beautifully decorated and very spacious giving every table a feeling of privacy. Tables are available by the bar, restaurant areas, outdoor and what appeared to be a partially covered section. Great choice of drinks with a really great mix of tasteful music at a perfect volume to really compliment the atmosphere. We had a few different servers but Becky (sorry if misspelt) was our main person. It's hard to find people who have a certain personality who genuinely make you feel like they care. The kind of person who will stand with three heavy plates whilst clearing and carry on talking just because they don't want to be rude. Becky was happy, bubbly and simply delightful. The menu is brilliant and we will be back again to try the rest. We had the lobster salad/langoustines. Both were excellent and the sourdough bread I ordered on the side was fantastic My partner had the Brill and i can tell I am going to run out of adjectives. It was just as good as the côte de boeuf which I decided to take on on my own: Faultless. Now I am going to say something I have thought about all the way home and do not say lightly. The fries were the best I have ever had. I live in France for 17 years and have had my share of fries. Wow. Quality of the beef was good and the cooking was excellent. If you fancy white wine I highly recommend the GRAVES, which just complimented a perfect evening. For puds I had the brulée, which the member of staff clearly explained was a large portion and the taste of passionfruit was sour but the ginger ice cream balanced it out well. Spot on. We mentioned the bownie was a little dry and turns out they had forgotten to put the mint cream on top. We know this as we mentioned the dry brownie after eating and they bought us another piece with some creme on it. They really care. I cannot remember the last time I had a better meal when eating out, regardless of the fantastic service, atmosphere, decor and just about everything else. The only small thing that I will say is that we were asked to pay the bill at the bar as the wifi was playing up. This wasn't an issue but when I left a £30 tip for the staff and chefs I didn't receive a thank you from the person behind the bar taking the payment. An oversight I'm sure but certainly needs to be mentioned as it did leave a slightly sour taste after what was a faultless and wonderful dining experience. We will be seeing you soon. Whatever you are doing, it is fantastic and Becky is an asset to your team. Thank you from us both. Oliver Waite and Abbey Trent

Highly recommend a visit to this great pub. Went for the first time last night and it definitely wont be the last. What really stood out, apart from the scrumptious food, was the staff. They were very knowledgeable about the menu and drinks on offer. They went the extra mile to accommodate food allergies without any fuss, offfered to make me any of the cocktails with a non alcoholic alternative (which makes a lovely change to the usual soft drink alternatives). We have been to many establishments who are struggling to find the right team because of the pandemic and have had bad service. The Fox has got it right. Well done!

I stayed at The Fox for a couple of nights, and had lunches and dinners at the restaurant. In all occasions the food was excellent, the ingredients were first class and cooked to perfection. The menu offered a good range of choices, and the desert menus was also very good. The dishes were creative, yet classic, and very well presented. The drinks menu, including very interesting cocktails, was very good. All in all, I found the prices for food and drink very reasonable. I have been to many places in the UK that would charge a lot more for dishes of similar quality. The staff was first class!

Let’s start with the positives. The food was good, very good in fact. Tasty and well presented. The ambience and environs are excellent, modern and chic with a chilled vibe. Why only two stars? Well the service, which started off as excellent soon spiralled down to very poor over the course of lunch. There were only 6 tables with guests and 6 members of staff. This seemed an excellent staff guest ratio, however it was not to be. At the end of our main course we asked for the dessert menu. We waited. And waited. 10 minutes later the dessert menu arrived. We chose desserts and waited for our order to be taken. And waited. And waited. We could see a nearby table getting a dessert menu. We waited. The nearby table ordered their desserts. We waited. Another 10 minutes passed. The nearby table got their desserts, we continued to wait. We then decided not to bother with desserts and after lunch drinks. We asked for the bill. And waited. 10 minutes later the bill arrived. We wanted to pay by card. We waited for the card machine to be brought over. And waited. 10 minutes later the waitress brought it over. She apologised for the wait! We paid and left. Can I just remind you, dear reader, that there were only 6 occupied tables and 6 members of staff? It is shocking that we had to wait 40 minutes to not have the pleasure of ordering desserts and to then to pay the bill. The staff were more focused on setting up tables that remained empty than promptly serving actual guests. The lady, who I assumed was the restaurant manager, seemed unaware that the focus of her job should have been to ensure the waiting staff were promptly helping guests. All she did was stand behind the bar for most of the 2 hours we were there. Not one glance was made by her toward the customers to see if all was well. The result: we spent £30 less than we might have done and the staff got no tip.

We were on a work visit to Southampton from South Derbyshire and decided to have a look at Lymington and overnight at The Fox before heading off to Warwick for another work thing the next day. We are so glad we did as this place is an utter delight. The dining room is very well designed, in fact, all the rooms are beautifully furnished/decorated and the bedroom we were in (Crawley) was spacious with lovely views and a beautiful bathroom. We enjoyed fish and chips, a few drinks and my husband sampled the much mentioned custard tart, which did not disappoint. The breakfast was extraordinary! Delicious and beautifully presented fruit; a cooked plate on which every item was the best example of its kind including sausage, bacon, eggs, tomatoes & mushrooms; the tea was the best Earl Grey ever; the pastries we could not manage, but the charming server brought us a takeaway box & we had them later. The key point about staying/eating here is the staff training. It should be the norm, but sadly, it is not. Every person we had contact with could not do enough to help. The servers at dinner said hello and smiled every time they came to the table. They were attentive, but not fussy and there were plenty of them. The lady who served breakfast was like the best mum you could imagine. There was a mix up with the booking/payment (my mess!) but the ladies sorting it out could not have been kinder. When we left, it was pouring, but we were helped with our bags and someone held umbrellas over us as we got into the car. Above and beyond!! I even left my dressing gown belt behind and they somehow managed to extricate it from the towels and send it on to me with a lovely card.Just an amazing place with an even more amazing staff. Good luck to them: they deserve every success.

We had seen Lennie the chef/owner on James Martin’s Saturday show and James had raved about the Fox and the food so my partner and I booked for a night away close to our 30th anniversary. June 2020. Then the lockdown hit. So we booked for my Birthday and lockdown 2 hit. So we tried for my partner’s birthday and, again, restrictions shut us down. Eventually, a year later, we booked for our 31st. What can I say? It was worth the wait. The wonderful staff spoiled us and were universally friendly, kind and accommodating. The cooking is superb, the wine list good and affordable and the room was a delight. Many, many thanks to Nicky, Becky, Manon, Lucy, Heidi, Tina and if I missed anyone, sorry. My partner and I have visited the Fox many times when staying in Winchester and we were not disappointed this time. We had nibbles, starters, mains and desserts. The nibbles were great, the crab arancini especially, melt in the mouth, would highly recommend. The halloumi starter was also fantastic. For mains I had the fillet of Brill, which was lovely however as it was a fillet I was not expecting bones, there was quite a few. nevertheless the flavor was great. My partner had the pork fillet which he recommended highly however felt it needed a sauce. The desserts, especially the soufflé was our favorite. When we arrived we were made aware that our table was booked again in 2 hours, we were aware of this as when we had originally booked the website informed us, this was fine. However as it was quite a busy evening and service was in high demand we went 30 minutes over our allocated time, this didn't seem like a problem but we were anxious that we had not finished being served within the time we were given. We look forward to returning again, thank you.

We loved our lunch outside at this pub and the staff were all helpful and friendly. The menu looked fantastic but three of us chose the Halloumi main course which was really disappointing. Salad needed a good dollop more of the lemon mayonnaise and the Halloumi was deep fried in breadcrumbs - a cardinal sin in my view - and pretty tasteless. It could have been Mozzarella. Will definitely go back again as this may have just been an unfortunate choice but Halloumi in breadcrumbs has to go!

Me and my partner visited last weekend on a whim for dessert and noticed a terrible sewage smell that other tables were also commenting on. (tables closer to car park) we thought that would be a one off but we arrived for dinner last night and were shocked to find the smell still lingering and worse than before. A table behind us actually left after their drink because one man said “I can’t stand the smell any longer” unfortunately when the waitress said “oh that was a quick one” he didn’t tell her why although they must all be aware and I’m quite surprised nothings been done about it (I’ve just read a review from OCTOBER titled ‘Smelly’ saying the same thing, obviously the marquee side must mask the smell. The food has always been great and we’d definitely like to return however not until it’s back inside as it’s very off putting and my partner found it especially hard to stay and eat as it was making his stomach turn.

Just go! That’s my advice! This is a brilliant gastro pub which I literally couldn’t fault. - the food is excellent - try the cote de boeuf it’s fabulous (and so is the bearnaise sauce and griddled flat mushrooms that come with it )- service - delightful! Very warm welcome from front of house and our waitress was attentive and charming (and all staff wore masks and were very safety conscious) - pricing - very reasonable for the quality of the produce (locally sourced) and portion size - ambience - lovely, fabulous lighting and well spaced out tables. The heated and covered outdoor area with fairy lights was beautiful - Covid measures - we felt very safe; lots of sanitiser, check in details taken, toilet entry is monitored, tables well spaced out I’ve only one complaint - it’s too far from my home in Southampton. Next time we’ll stay overnight so we can enjoy a bottle of the reasonably priced wine! We’ll be back...

The Fox is a gastro pub/restaurant at the top of its game. We've been here before, always with pooch so we dine in the bar area. Crawley is an idyllic Hampshire village with pond, ducks and lots of thatched cottages that make that extra special appeal. This trip being really special, we hadn't been out much as most people and this was our post lockdown 2 pre-Xmas fine dining lunch out.More on the food later but this visit highlight was the friendly staff, perfect service and being made to feel really welcome. Rarely have we had such a pleasant couple of hours, enjoying fine dining with great attention. The Covid security was as to be expected very good but complimentary and not overpowering. The food was aptly seasonal, starters were delicious, beautifully presented and perfect size. Our main courses were the same, perfectly cooked, hot when served (amazing how many places cook great hot food and serve it cooled !) and the plate presentation had that "we care" look. Our drinks complimented the day, my Ale was lovely, the wine choice uncomplicated but really good. My highlight of the meal was dessert, mine was a work of art, the effort and artistry in presenting my dessert was incredible, almost too good to cut into, but too delicious not to.I think I've said enough, we love the Fox, our next quest is to try their sister place in Twyford, The Bugle.Thank you to the staff at The Fox, you made this trip special, it's been a harsh year 2020 but innovative places like the Fox bring pleasure and happiness in tough times. Booked a table for 2 of us and also stayed overnight. We were in the Leckford room, it was stunning. Large bathroom with roll top and separate shower. Loads of room to put your make up etc. Lovely large fluffy white towels. Tea and coffee facilities with plenty of biscuits, fresh milk and water in the fridge in the room. Massive bed which was extremely comfortable. Really spacious and comfortable room and will definitely stay again, if I was being really picky could do with a mirror by the plug socket for when you dry your hair- having said that there is a portable small mirror in the bathroom which was adequate. Dinner was amazing, nothing too much trouble. On the menu they had mussels as a main course but had no problem with doing a starter portion for me, then we had cote de boeuf for main - tender and gorgeous. Hubby had the mushroom and Stilton tart to start which he thoroughly enjoyed. Breakfast was very good too,m. Staff very friendly and welcoming - will be returning soon.

Four of us came here on a Wednesday evening, a great meal. We had starters and mains, all looked and tasted very nice and served by friendly staff. My wife had the Gurnard, which you do not often find, my mate had the Tomahawk pork chop, also looked great. Easy to get around with my wheelchair, shame about the smell in the car park. Hope to go back in the summer.

Parked in the disabled bay closest to the entrance and as we exited the car we all went ‘who did that?’ The smell of sewage was awful.Fortunately on entering this delightful pub the smell had receded and as we were shown to our table we were able to take in the lovely conservatory area. We were reminded we had only a 2 hour slot to dine in which we have come across before and have no problem with as long as the service is up to it. It was. Our young waitress was efficient from the start and orders were taken for drinks and later our food. All the food we had was pleasantly different and very tasty, we were tasting each other’s meals and enjoying it all.Our bill was reduced with the very welcome discount offered and excellent value.Service was excellent throughout.Unfortunately the smell was still there when we left but I’m sure we would return.

Fabulous food and outstanding service were the highlights of our first visit to The Fox. A longer wait than ideal to receive our drinks on arrival but given the circumstances of the two sittings everyone arrived at 6pm so of course there was a backlog as everyone wanted drinks at the same time. The staff were highly skilled and kept us informed and therefore happier. I tried duck confit leg for the first time and it was very tough and after discussing with the waitress she agreed it wasn’t satisfactory and ordered me an alternative dish. Later the manager spoke to us and advised the chef also agreed the duck was not up to standard and took my whole meal off the bill as I’d had to wait for a second dinner!Overall we had a super evening and the food we had apart from my duck was outstanding . This restaurant sets a high bar for menu, quality and especially customer service.

Another wonderful meal at The Fox which has very quickly become our favourite local having moved to the area recently. This time for the sunday roasts which were absolutely beautiful, generous portions (would like slightly more cauliflower cheese though), gravy to die for and melt in the mouth meat. The nibbles to start (including the lovely fresh bread and flavoured butters, croquettes and arancini) were lovely as always, and nice to try some new flavours again. Only grumbles were that the yorkshire puddings were a bit over done - having seen others pictures I think this might just be how the chef does it (?) - not to our tastes though - and that the custard tart pastry tasted a bit burnt - given the general high quality of the food and environment at The Fox I didn't want to mark down my review on what was, I'm sure, just a slightly off day. Will be returning very soon!

Our fish tart and fish cake starters were very good.Mains were duck & bouillabaisse, both excellent. Our chocolate mousse & carrot cake roulade were outstanding. The wine list is not extensive, but should cater for most tastes. The main part of the restaurant was full, and very noisy. Fortunately, we were offered a quiet corner at the front of the pub.The pub`s own car park has limited capacity and tricky access - best avoided if you have a big vehicle. Street parking is OK, but it`s best to park a bit away from the pub, as the road is quite narrow (A Range Rover parked next to the car park exit made it difficult & dangerous to leave).

We stayed for two nights and enjoyed our stay at The Fox and in Crawley. The village is very pretty and The Fox is a very quant building. We were greeted by a friendly lady and a young man showed us to our second floor room. Each of the 5 rooms are unique we understand and ours was lovely looking out at the front onto the road and lovely thatched cottage but it was not noisy as it's a sleepy village. There is a free car park which is also a bonus . We booked evening meals for both evenings. The food was fabulous. The service on our first night was excellent - we commented on the fact that the team of young waitresses were all buzzing about all the time but each clearly knew exactly what they were doing. Breakfast again was fab with delicious berries and yoghurt and my husband had the full English which he said was very good. The service here was also very good. The lady who served us even leant us some books about Winchester to take to our room which we found helpful with planning our time out in the city. On the second evening something went a little wrong and we ended up not seeing our waitress for some time after our dessert with the result that we were asked to leave as it was coming up to 10.00pm. However when we explained we were residents we were able to order our coffees. At breakfast the next morning again there seemed to be a mix up of room orders for food and timing and we waited a long time for the food to come and when it came my husbands bacon was cooked to a crisp. We feel sure this was just glitch and have no hesitation in recommending this hotel/restaurant to our friends.

Very classy pub venue in a beautiful village. The car park is fairly tight but there is parking available on the road. We had the crab arancini followed by the cote de bouef ,which were both excellent , and finished with a shared ginger sponge with Guinness sticky toffee sauce and yogurt sorbet! Great service with engaging staff and excellent attitude.

Ok the drive through to the car park was a bit tight. ( and despite only a single pint of beer a bit tighter it seemed on the way out.) But you cannot but admire the welcome, organisation, service, covid procedures, and welcome. Even better the food was bloody marvellous. At the risk of being boring, I had devilled kidneys, my wife lobster and king prawn salad, served very quickly after ordering( I think that is good) we shared a wonderful cote de boeufe and my wife's mango souffle was the best she had ever had. (My choc mousse was pretty good too)Overall a triumph and the real ale that night "Swift one" was very well kept. I wish them lots of luck. But they might make the car par a bit easier to access.

The building is fantastic, the atmosphere is vibrant, the staff are refreshingly caring, knowledgeable, friendly and you feel they want to create a good service.Lenny has created a fantastic menu with fresh local produce with elegant twists of genius. The flavours from all our dishes were perfect. Fish was cooked exceptionally well and the steak was Devine.Thank you to all the team, we shall be back soon.

My wife and I visited for dinner, to celebrate her birthday. The Covid arrangements were very good - tables well spaced and the servers always wore masks at the table. The dining room is elegant with a high ceiling. Every course was of gourmet quality. I started with Devilled lambs' kidneys on toast. They were very tender in a tasty sauce. My wife started with a salad of courgette, pea, artichoke and pine nuts. It was very fresh. For the main course, I opted for Bouillabaisse. It contained four pieces of different fish, a scallop, a tiger prawn and five mussels, all in a pleasant crab bisque. A side dish of saffron potatoes and courgettes was included. My wife enjoyed her Butter roasted cod loin, with shrimp and lobster sauce. Finally, we shared a splendid dessert, a well-risen raspberry souffle, with morello cherry ice cream. The quality of the service matched the quality of the meal.

Had high expectations, based on past experience and recent reviews, but the food wasn’t quite to the standard we had hoped and the fact that hardly any of the staff were wearing face masks when they approached our table was disappointing. The cote de boeuf seemed slightly overdone to us, which is a shame for such a fine cut of meat with such potential. Starters and dessert were excellent.

I was initially quite anxious about the thought of going out to dinner. Not because I’m worried about catching COVID (i work in a hospital, pretty sure I’ve already had it!) but because I was worried it wouldn’t feel normal. True, the fox has introduced a one way system and a ‘one in one out’ toilet policy, with some staff wearing masks, but otherwise the experience was completely ‘normal’. Great atmosphere, actually being able to see people’s faces and smiles, fantastic food and excellent service. Looking forward to coming back! Thank you.

My wife had booked the restaurant and a room for my 76th birthday in April 2020. The lock down prevented this from going ahead but rather than cancel we decide to delay the booking until our Emerald Wedding Anniversary on the 31st July.Yesterday we celebrated the event and had wonderful service from the staff, an outstanding meal and a great bedroom. It could not have been better. It wasn't until later did we find out that the residential part of the Fox was not opening until August the 1st. But they honoured the booking and made the whole event special. All the staff seemed to know it was our anniversary. They even gave us an anniversary card and a plate of petit fours with 'Happy Anniversary' piped in chocolate on the plate. For dinner we both had the same dishes Devilled Kidney to start and a bouillabaisse for the main. Both were exquisite. The following morning we had a great breakfast. Just us and the staff were present as the other rooms were not occupied. The orange juice that we had ordered became a Bucks Fizz while our waitress, Tina, kept us entertained with stories of the beautiful village of Crawley and the changes and successes of the Fox (previously the Fox and Hounds) since Lenny Carr-Roberts bought and developed the old pub.As you can tell from the above comments we were overwhelmed by the experience and could not have dreamt that it would be that good.
